[Q] frustrating 'align screen' - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

this is one problem that annoys the hell out of me. occasionally ill have my phone in my pocket and when i pull it out im forced to align the screen. if i dont whip the stylus out (forcing me to use 2 hands) and do it properly it'll just repeat and no other action can be taken until it is complete.
how can i disable this?
the screen is already aligned but im guessing it gets interrupted sometimes when in my pocket thinking it needs an alignment
also while im here. any easy way to stiffen the power/screen button? i reassembled my TP2 the other day and ever since then it's slightly softer. i always bump the button when i'm holding the phone horizontally

It should never, ever go to the align screen unless you're pressing the key combo to enter it... Which I don't even remember what the key combo is for the RHOD. On my RAPH I think I had to hold a volume button and the middle button. I'll try to look it up, but basically there's probably a key combo you're hitting while the phone is in your pocket, that is causing that screen to come up.
Search is magical.

Seems if you hit both volume buttons and tap the screen it pulls it up? Sorry, I can't test this... I completely wiped WinMo off my RHOD .

That's a bugger - power switch

Anyone else accidentally pressed the power button whilst using the HW keyboard? It's a better power switcdh in that it's easier to use, but it's also more sensitive and when I'm holding the phone in two hands and typing, I've accidentally hit the power button a few times.
It's still a million times better than the TP though.
But aren't you supposed to push AND hold it for it to power off? Or do you mean that any slight touch and it turns off the screen?

I've not done it myself no, but it comes up with a warning before switching it off anyway.
I've done it quite a few times .. you accidentally nudge the button and the screen goes blank ..
yeppers, im doing it but am learning not too lol
i'm starting to do this too! quite frustrating sometimes!
I was going to add a poll to see who could clock-up the most accidental-power-switch-whilst-typing hits but I can't see a way.
So I'll start the ball rolling:
3 (so far)
I've done it 7 times since yesterday.
4 of which were in a 10 minute gap last night when I couldn't figure out why my screen was switching off by itself. I was getting ready to RMA it when I remembered this thread and slapped myself.
I've already lost count of how many times I've switched the screen off, really frustrating!!
This is the only niggle I've come accross so far that I cant fix easily... I'll have to chop off my left index finger! lol
Funny. I never accidentally turn it off
I guess it's the way I hold the phone that's different than you guys. Because I can't think of a way why you can accidentally press the power button!
When I have it in landscape mode, I automatically wrap my forefingers around the back section of the phone (much like holding a videogame controller)
This causes the section of my finger closest to my hand to rest on the power button by accident. A small movement of my finger to the right will cause it to press the power button.
I only have problems with the volumebuttons when sliding open the keyboard...
Hi,
I'm going nuts on this, as well. Isn't here any app, that just disables the power button when the keyboard is in use?
Cheers,
Zivi

What, do you use your feet?
I've had the same problem also quite a few times already. First couple of times I was really scared some contact was loose or something!
I agree on the powerbutton beying annoying
I vote also for some kind of hack, like disable power off when the keyboard is out. As some of you already mentioned.

Am I the only one who hits the power button with the keyboard extended?

I've searched but I can't find any one else complaing of this problem and it's driving me nuts.
When I extend the hardware keyboard to type, my finger often rests on the power button turning the screen off. Does anybody else face this problem? Is there a registry hack to disable the power button with the keyboard is extended?
Thanks
jejeje
Same problem!!!! so frustating!!!
No you are not the only one; I also have this problem; when writing message I touch the power button accidentally a lot and the only solution I could come to was to be more delicate and careful when writing
Regards,
Yep, same problem here! A really silly thing to miss - there's not particular reason to not have the power button on the right at the top rather than the left.
all the time....
very frustrating,
..then I try to open it, wait a fraction of a second, click it again for fear of not having pushed it enough the first time, ... and I end with the sleep mode on the phone , .. so I click it firmly for a third time finally opening it..
timewaste...
same here

me too
Add me to the list.
Which makes me wonder, why didn't they place the power on the top right?
Well at least I know I'm not the only one. Still hoping someone smarter than I will find a way to disable it with keyboard extended
@vdKarel I would have found those post had I spelt button with two t's (#)
I wasnt having that problem until today actually. lol. funny you bring it up. After discovering this, i did find it a little inconvenient where the power button is placed
happens some times. probably the power button would be better in an other place
I do it all the time as well
I use it a lot (pages and pages of word documents written on it in the train) and it doesn't happen...
When I hold mine with keyboard extended, my left index (which is the one which could hit the power button) is folded, so it hits the left side of the keyboard "block" (no power button here) then goes under the screen "block" and holds the back of the keyboard "block", it doesn't press the left side of the screen "block" (which has the power button).
Do you guys have your left index extended for it to be along the left of both the keyboard "block" and the screen "block" ? I don't see how else you could be hitting the power button...
PS : On my TyTN, this allowed me to turn the PPC on and off with the left index tip with the keyboard out, this avoided waiting for the screen to rotate when I knew I'd wand it in landscape when I trun back on.
This only happens to me after ALMOST completing a 900 word e-mail . . .
You're not alone, and there are fixes for this:

For the Tilt 2, this doesn't happen. I don't know if it's because of WM 6.5 or something AT&T implemented or what, but the power button has no effect when the keyboard is out. I actually want to find a way to enable that because at times I want to put it in sleep mode while open.
Why do you have your fingers extended?? I never have this problem in my TP2!

um.. to hold it securely?
ummm, not to sound like a smart a$$ but this has been covered n many threads previously...i believe that if u search for "disable power button" ull find ur answer...its a simple .cab installation that disables the power button when the keyboard is extended...hope that helps and good luck

Disable the power button while using the keyboard?

EVERY time i use the keyboard for writing a text message my left index finger accidently touches the power button, turns of the phone and discards my halfway written message.
Wouldnt it be great if the power button could only be pressed if the keyboard was closed? Anyone have a solution ?
ditto
glad to know I'm not the only one having this problem...
I saw this problem raised b4 before I had a touch pro 2. Now I see it raised again.I now have the device and I dont know how your finger comes in contact with the power button. I am only small though 5'6 so maybe my fingers are not big enuff to make this happen.
+ if you accidently switch off just tap the power button and your work should still be there.
I'm having the exactly opposite problem: While in keyboard mode it is very difficult to use the power button. If the device turns into standby I have to press a multiple times to hit the right angle toget a responce from the TP2. After all, I never once accidently hit the power button when using the keyboard.
I have the same problem! Really annoying...
same here this is a pain! your left finger nearest your thum catches it sometimes dosent it!
any regedit update or hack??
any one.... i have had a look and killed my fone a few times testin it... drivin me crzy
Same issue here, when I hold the device with the keypad out I keep ik between my 2 index fingers while typing with my thumbs.
The middle segments of my left index finger is exactly on the power button, and the phone goes standby or does not respond on the keystrokes of the keypad and seconds later (3) it pop's-up a "do you want to power down the device now" question.
Would love a tweak that disables the power button when the keyboard is sliced out.
Same problem here! would love a solution, though i don't have one... You could train yourself not to put your left index finger on that power button perhaps...
Exactly as Zaleo describes, I have the very same problem. Trying to teach my self not to rest my fingers up that far but not always that easy.
Could AEButton or HButton perhaps do this by remapping the power button to 'nothing' but only on the condition that the keyboard is slid open?
I have written a script that will achieve this.
It is pretty basic - I am no expert.

Cab or other way to disable Screen Align??

Seems the TP2 also has a "grip of death" of sorts. Basically if you hit the Volume Buttons on the side of the devise and touch the screen, it automatically activates the Screen align util and until you complete the Screen align to the devices satisfaction, You are stuck there.
Basically this translates to any time you use the Volume Buttons while holding the phone to your face, It activates the Screen Align Util. (At least that is what happens to me about 10 times a day)
Does anyone know of a way to deactivate this "Feature/Major Annoyance"?
Thanks
mine does not do this. i suspect something is wrong with your device.
This also does not happen with my phone, just tested it out. Even called myself at work. Are you using a cooked ROM or stock? I am using stock ROM from AT&T
Try again. Hit both Volume Buttons (Simultaneously) on the side of the phone and tap the screen, It will start up the align screen until every time. I have verified that this VZN and Sprint TP2`s. It may be a CDMA thing but this feature is designed into the phone (And it sucks!).
Anyone know of a way to disable this?
mine does that from time to time, but I never figured out what causes it, but, you are right it is ANNOYING when it happens.
Cooked rom, if it makes any difference.
Hi all,
Confirmed on UK TP2 - stock WM6.5 ROM, no special apps etc installed. Had to soft reset to get out from a mixed screen align/text message app screen.
No looping align screen after reset - but annoying. Best suggestion (without being sarcastic!) - don't press both volume buttons at once, seems to be a way into a "fix the problem" mode for those with grossly un-aligned screens. How else could you get into align screen to fix the problem? ... aka "feature not a bug".
adam.
both volum buttons?
under what scenario are you hitting both volum buttons at the same time, with enough force to depress them, and touching the screen? I tried doing this on purpose and its almost impossible to do with intention much less on accident. you would have to be gripping your phone with massive, angry, force. maybe the fix is to stop talking to whomever it is that is pissing you off.
in anycase, i still could not get this replicated on the tmobile tp2. of course i am using the fastest and most stable rom provided for this phone: stock wm 6.1 with tf3d. so maybe its a feature of 6.5.x and some rendition of sense 2.x
Hold the Phone in your left hand. In my case my Thumb naturally rests on the Volume Buttons. My Thumb covers both Volume buttons. Now if I get a call and the phone against my Face and I attempt to adjust the volume with my Thumb (By rocking my Thumb up or down), Sometimes I manage to accidentally hit both. If that happens, The Screen align will start up every time because the screen is already touching my face.
I have talked with many other TP2 owners that have this same problems however they did not know what was causing it. All they knew was the Screen align kept starting up randomly.
Back to.. Is it possible to disable this? Maybe even assign a different key combination to start the screen align util such as Vol Down and endcall or something. It is too easy to accidentally press both volume buttons if you are on a call. If you do that while the phone is touching your face, the screen align will start and the phone is now locked until you get out the stylus and go through the realign.

[Q] Screen wont turn on after it turns off. ATT Tilt 2

Everytime I boot my phone up, it works fine up until when the screen goes into sleep mode. Once it goes into sleep mode I cannot turn the screen back on, it stays black. The keyboard, end and answer key lights show up when I press the power button but the screen just stays black no matter what button I press.
I end up having to either take the battery out or using the stick to press the reset button on the side in order to get the phone to where I can see the screen again. I have adjusted the settings to where the screen doesnt go into sleep mode and the screen just stays on but that drains my battery. I want to be able to have my screen go off so I can save power but if it goes off it wont come on again until I reboot.
I have done a hard reset. This problem started happening to me when I started using the Energy Rom but I've even flashed different Roms and the problem still exist.
Somebody please tell me what's wrong! I need help! This is a big annoying problem to have. Thanks.
is this problem occurring when you slide the keyboard out?
i had the t-mobile touch pro2 with this problem.
the screen would die when the keyboard was out and not come back.
if this is the case, what i did was...
well. obviously not open the keyboard fully.
but if i accidentally had.
instead of pulling out the battery, i waited...
till the screen 'naturally' went to sleep.
than i would pull out the stylus or press power button
and the screen would come on.

Yes the problem still exist even when I slide the keyboard out. Once the screen goes off, that's it....pressing the power button to get it out of sleep mode, sliding the keyboard, I press all buttons and nothing works. The only thing that "works" to get the screen back on is removing the battery or using the stylus to press the reset button.
When sliding the keyboard out the keys light up but the screen doesn't come on, also pressing the power button lights up the end and answer keys without the screen coming on.

so. whenever the screen goes out, period, you cant get it back?
or the screen goes out and cant get it back once you slide the keyboard out?
if it is only when sliding out the keyboard...
try not opening the keyboard fully on the right side.
on my rhodium, after that point, the screen goes out.

Yes, period. Also, you know when you put your face to the phone during a call and the screen goes off so your face wont press anything on the screen? It doesn't come back on from that either once I end the phone call, it just stays black. I'm assuming you don't have any other suggestions. This Sucks

This has to be a software issue but I don't know where to start. I'm surprised nobody else has encountered this problem. I've grown frustrated of this issue because I don't understand why it's doing this. I have had the phone for almost 6 months only dropping it once 4 months ago and it wasn't a strong damaging drop that would affect anything inside. I guess I'll just have to go last resort and call warranty to swap the phone out. Thanks for the help.

My phone also dos not come back on, when I put it in out the sreen with the power button on top, or when the phone goes to sleep. Nothing can put it back on(opening te keyboard, pulling out the stylis, presing the answer-, windows-, back- and end button). I and up using a music players too keep the phone busy what's makes it operational. Cant really remember when this started happening exactly. My phone is at the moment loaded with a standard ROM. I used too have a custom ROM.
My TP2 does this too, although I only encounter the problem sometimes when someone calls. I answer and put the phone next to my ear, the screen goes black as it should and the phone just dies. I can't hear what the other person is saying and the screen wont turn on anymore. I have to take out the battery to reboot.
set light sensor to manual in settings. You have some bad or fragmented code causing the problem. Pretty common actually, many different reasons, but usually either a bad light or proximity sensor or software issue. Setting the sensor to manual should do it, if not, hard reset and allow the phone to fully set up before touching it, to allow full customization process to complete. Search my posts on SOD (sleep of death) for more information.
Funny this was brought up. Now im worried I just dropped 250.00 and have a new one coming.
Mine started with the ear piece quit working. couldnt hear anything except on speaker.
Anyway I started having the screen issue over a month ago, only way to get it back was soft reset with the stylus. Also when the screen was lit, I couldn't hit the power button to turn the screen off. At times the screen would be on 24/7 and I just dealt with it. The times when it decieded to go to sleep was when I needed the soft reset. Well long story short I forgot my charger one day at work and the battery died. after pressing the power button for hours with no response, moving the screen in all diffrent directions as I pressed the button. It came on once after hrs of messing with it. Well today it died again and I am fed up with it so out came the tools. Once I opened it up I noticed the ribbon that feeds the screen from the mother board was worn and torn. the ribbon slides everytime the keyboard is slid out and it rubs on both sides of the phone. I thought maybe mine was just a fluke and was installed wrong considering the phone being 10 months old but now I read this and see maybe its a common problem. The cheapest I could find the Ribbon was 56.00 so I didnt want to chance it not being the issue.
