One month later...how do you like you GS2 ? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I am still on the Nexus-S 4G, but thinking of possibly upgrading to the Samsung Galaxy S2, I love that screen and thin form factor For sure will upgrade if XDA can port ICS to it next month or two.
For the people that bought it last month, what is your honest opinion of the phone now that you have had it awhile ? Would you buy it again ? Are the network/signal issues as bad as I read ?
Thanks

So far my phone is working great, i did root it and installed barnacle wifi thether from the market and it works awesome! i do not regret buying this phone this is probably the best piece of hardware i have ever had and so far it has worked properly no dropped calls signal is strong (sometiemes the bars are misleading) but truste it works great! the screen is beatuful and coming from an evo3d this this is really light, i wouldn't trade it for an iphone 4s propably for a nexus prime lol also my battery life is great like 32% left after at least 38 hours with moderate to little use, and like 5-6 hours on heavy gaming.
hope this helps and sorry about my english, it's very basic lol

Best phone I've ever had. But I would wait for the upcoming ics announcement and see what the Nexus Prime/Galaxy on verizon offers before you make any purchase.
The only minor gripes I have would be the WVGA resolution, lack of NFC, and no LTE. Even with that said, I'm going to be a happy owner for the next two years. I live in an area with good Wimax coverage, so check your area before you buy any phone.

love the screen, very fast, miss all the 3vo Roms though
it's a great phone, not perfect, especially the Los,
but the new lost kernel fixes that

Thanks for all the honest replies. I had my heart set on the upcoming Nexus-Prime, but looks to be a Verizon exclusive to start, and I will not leave Sprint just for one phone, their plans are too pricey. Plus my Wife is happy with her Nexus-S. And I bet at the end of the day the Prime hardware will not be radically different than the Sprint GS2, except the nice HD screen.
But if XDA can port Android 4.0 ICS to this GS2, which I bet they will, since the Nexus-S 4G will be getting it, and the Prime is also a Samsung made device, I think the GS2 has a good shot at getting a port sooner than later ?

2+ weeks now and honestly I love the phone. Yeah it's got a few quirks but what phone is perfect? I love the phone and for what I've needed it more then covers it.

still amazes me everytime i turn on the screen. and take a picture...wait. even more when i shoot a video. i try to make it lag, it just ****ing wont..actually works awesome as a phone, has great speaker, nice and light..still my dream phone even after the newness factor wore off

I'm loving my E4GT. I came from T-Mobile LG G2X and that was great, but not as great as this phone. I bought this phone early this month and my only complaint is the LOS. With the LoStKernel fixing the problem, I'm going about 4days without LOS. Other things I love about this phone is the camera and the pictures. + 1 because I love taking pictures with my phone. Speedy processor, the screen can be a little better. This is just my experience with the phone.

Those of you that own a Galaxy-Nexus; are you happy ?

Curious the opinion of real owners of a Galaxy-Nexus, are you happy with your purchase ? Is it your favorite Android phone of all time ? I know only the European owners can tell me about the phone, which is slightly different than the CDMA version coming to the U.S., but overall do you like the new Nexus ?
I am looking to possibly leave the U.S. carrier Sprint, I have their Galaxy S 2, rooted with nice ROM, LOVE this phone, but hate Sprint service. Last few Sprint phones my Wife and Brother have as well, the worst network this year, 3G speeds in Chicago are like 1x Edge speeds at best, texting and receiving pictures is a pain, half don't go through, dropped calls have been happening more often the last couple of months.
So I might make the switch to Verizon, everyone I know with Verizon service swear by it as being rock solid, #1 call service, no dropped calls, very solid network. I use my phone a lot for business, and need a network that is faster and more stable.
And I am a huge Android fan, owned both the Nexus-One and Nexus-S 4G, and those were my favorite Android phones at the time I owned those. But Sprint is killing me.
It's a very solid device! You won't be disappointed!
Yes.

I have had my SGN for a few days now. I got it from Expansys, who provided extremely good service in getting it to me! I am still learning how to use Android (this is my first android so it is slow learning ).
But the large, bright screen, ability to enlarge text (so my weak eyes can read it), ease of use, is a winner for me. So far, I have not run into any problems, so I am real pleased!
Extremely happy! I've been on android since getting the G1 on day one. This is by far the best device I've ever owned. You can look at all the youtube videos and reviews you want but once you get the phone in your hands you'll be blown away!
Love the device.
Hard to know whether it's ICS or the phone itself which stands out. ICS was very good on the Nexus S, but only really played with it as an SDK port. Hopefully will have chance to play with my old S when it officially gets ICS.
The screen (despite the weirdness on low brightness) is stunning, the OS is incredibly smooth and slick - it impresses me MUCH more than iOS which I've always loved for it's transitions and smoothness. Web browsing is also excellent - incredibly fast. Call and Audio quality are also excellent
The only drawback is that it's a little on the large side (sometimes hard to grab the notification bar with one hand)
I've come from the Nexus S, I'm not sure a GSII (once it gets ICS) would be much of a noticeable/fantastic upgrade though. Maybe more a sidegrade - although the shape of the GN, lack of hard/soft buttons & Screen curve do make it look massively pretty. It's also MUCH less common than the GSII & comes with pure Android - definitely a plus!
You won't be unhappy upgrading from a 2.3.x GS2 but as soon as the ICS official or custom ROM's hit it may well be a closer call!
Have had my GN for 9 days now and loving it. I have no regrets on buying it and highly enjoy both the hardware and vanilla android.
I do see what people say if the screen brightness is really low its doesn't look that great but I typically keep my screen set at 50% so its not a issue for me.
If I had to really point out a single thing that is probably the biggest drawback is the damn speaker is so quiet its basically useless unless your in a quiet environment. Driving down the highway with the music on quietly (drive a 08' bmw and its quiet inside) theres only a couple ringtones that are barely audible. My iphone speaker was loud enough to hear in all but the loudest places.
galaxy nexus
Love the screen love the size, the Chrome type browser is fantastic, however there are issues, why would you launch a new phone with no manual.Customer care at Samsung are unaware of the model of phone. The bug volume bug is now fixed but there is no flash which is ridicolous one of the primary reasons you chose android. Also the phone dialler ui is crap its all over the place and its complicated just for the sake if it.. Iam used to htc phones and in my opinion the tweak to the original ui is just the most simplistic thing to use..
I LOVE it! Especially when you can go to Wal Mart and get on a T-Mobile $30/m prepaid plan that gives you unlimited data and texts and 100 minutes with no contract, you'll end up breaking even in no time from Sprint.
It's not perfect but it's a fantastic device. Easily the best I've ever owned. Very happy with it.
I only wish they included gorilla glass. People can laugh at gorilla glass all they want but the fact for me is, my nexus already has 3 scratches on it. While my 1.5 y/o vibrant still looks brand spanking new.
Some who are coming from a GSII are disappointed. But that's really a lateral move, so otherwise, quite fantastic!
Very zippy. A great improvement over my N1 in terms of speed and function. Though I will miss the illuminated LED trackball.
What about voice/call quality!?
For example - huge improvement with a Razr over my ole' Droid Incredible.
What about the GNex?

my experience i find it better than the nexus s...
I had a galaxy s II and I enjoy the nexus more..
The Galaxy Nexus feels a lot better in the hand.. and I love the display and I particularly enjoy the lack of capacitive buttons on the front. Just staring at a 4.65" monolithic display with nothing to break up the sleek look.
Ice Cream Sandwich is really what brings it all together for me, though.. it's such a huge improvement over gingerbread.. it's hard for me to use the gmail app on gingerbread now..
This is easily the best android device I've ever owned.. even though the Galaxy S II has better specs, this device feels like it is in another league to me.
How are the network/wifi speeds? Is it 4G capable? Still trying to choose between this and the LG Optimus LTE.
I am really considering getting a Nexus to upgrade from my HTC Desire but I'm not sure if I should wait for a mobile phone with better hardware specifications (e.g. Quad-core processors) to be released if that is the case very soon or if I should just go with the Nexus.
I think it would be a big upgrade from my awesome Desire. The idea of a stock Android Google/Samsung phone makes things very exciting, as well. The only thing holding me back are the reviews going on about how the Nexus is the best Android phone on the market but isn't good enough to be a flagship phone because of it's hardware but it appears to be a wonderful device.
Did anyone here that owns a GSN come from a phone like the HTC Desire at all? I am trying to figure out this years Christmas gift to myself, you see!

UPGRADE I had an Inspire (a model up i think) and this phone is a HUGE upgrade! besides there wont be another nexus device for a good while yet so you will have less development options on them.
overall yes.
I'm looking forward to a lot of apps being updated to function on ics.
I don't get the same speeds as I was pulling on my skyrocket, but I would never know if I didn't run speedtest. My google music and everything else runs fast and smooth.
no regrets...
I'm very happy. The only bad thing abt the phone. It's written Samsung at the back...

Are you satisfied with your Galaxy Nexus?

I'm probably gonna buy the Samsung Galaxy Nexus tomorrow, but I'm not sure 100% yet, cause it's a lot of money.
Are you satisfied with that phone and would you buy it again?

I'd say it depends on a few factors. What phone you're coming from, as some ppl might see a big increase in performance/functionality and others not as much. If you're willing to spend a lot to purchase it outright in the US (I'm assuming US cuz you said lot of money) and what carrier/service you'll put it on.
I received mine last night and am very happy with it. I was using an EVO 3D on Sprint prior. I feel it is a minor upgrade from the EVO 3D as performance wise they were both fairly quick, but I really do like ICS.
Price wise, it cost a ton of money and I would say that is the biggest limiting factor for me, personally.
Carrier/service wise, I set it up on Tmo ($30 a month, 100 min and unlimited data) which I don't receive a signal for at home and at work, the signal is pretty good but the data speeds are slow. I previously had though Sprint was pretty slow, but Tmo is much slower where I'm at.
Not as big of a deal as I don't make phone calls often and am usually on WiFi, home & work.
The other main driving factor for me was there are no discount plans I've seen on Verizon as that is the only carrier guaranteed to get the Galaxy Nexus in the next month. The only other option to get the Galaxy Nexus in the US within the next month or two would be to get the unlocked GSM version. This is definitely based on my personal speculation from articles/news I've read and previous release patterns for Google devices.
Hope that helps!
Im coming from HTC Hero (slow as ****), so it'd be a major upgrade for me. I'm on 20€/month with unlimited data, unlimited sms and 100 minutes of talking and since I'm living in Berlin I always have 3g. So that's not the problem.
I'm scared of the battery life... HTC Hero lasts 3-5 days and the new smartphones (eg the sensation of a friend lasts 1 day) are empty after a day
Guess im gonna try it anyway. Thx for your post.
If you are on T-Mobile or AT&T already as a customer, and have a good plan which you want to keep, there is the option of buying from Expansys or another importer. For this, you'll get the European version which is pentaband and can work with both these networks.
The catch is you'll have to pay about $700+ for an unlocked, full usable phone. It is not subsidized, and some reports on the net suggest that these carriers won't get it until next spring. That's what I and many others have done that are reporting they already have a SGN. Most of us feel it is worth it, since the phone is so good.
Good luck.
Bought from newegg last friday and got it on monday and havent looked back... love it as its works for at&t and not have to sell this and re-buy to get the one that works for me lol... but seriously if your okay with the price tag then go for it. its great!
I am on Tmo, got my nexus yesterday. I'm coming from the G2 and DAMN what a difference! This screen is beautiful. I got mine from expansys btw.

Yes.
The Galaxy Nexus has reminded me why I chose Android in the first place.
Very expensive.... but it is a great phone! Use Volume+ to turn the speaker up.
I owned an HTC Tatto, then HTC Hero, then HTC Desire.
And now the Galaxy Nexus.
I'm 100% satisfaied. I will buy it again no doubt.
All the phones have their pros an cons. For me this one is all I wanted, one step forward for sure.
Yes.

I ordered mine from clove technologies in the UK last week and received it yesterday. I was using an HTC sensation on T-Mobile , and as specs are similar, the nexus blows it away by how optimized the software is for the hardware. Someone in a post before me hit the nail on the head, this reminds me of exactly why I love android. Great phone , you won't be disappointed.

Scared with the battery too.
Put the battery in the GN, full charge it, then first boot, after 3h of use my battery was at 65% :/
Hop calibration of the battery will make it better, or i'll sell it and by an HTC like i always have in the past.
I get 15 - 25 hours of use on the battery, depending on how I use it. Nice!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
That battery sucks. It is worse than GSII. You will see it.
Considering my previous phone was a Samsung Vibrant, the GNex is a great improvement. I finally have a working GPS and this phone will get timely updates. The screen is excellent. ICS 4.0 is very smooth. 4.0 takes a little bit getting used to but thats the beauty of being an early adopter. Battery life is better. For me it is anyway. I ran CM 7.1 on the Vibrant and battery life was horrible. The Vibrant could have been a much better phone but i mostly blame Tmobile for that. Ive said it before that i will never again get locked into a carrier branded phone as long as i can help it.
Just got mine last night. I think the screen is beautiful, ICS is nice, but takes a little bit getting used to. My wi-fi seems quite slow downloading stuff for some reason. I get better speed on 3G. Not sure what's up.
Also, it's kinda choppy when going between the apps and home screen back and forth. Everyone was raving how fast and smooth ICS was... not impressed so far. My SGS2 seems smoother...
Cell and wi-fi signals seem a bit weaker than my SGS2.
Can't get facebook to sync with my contacts at all... not sure what I need to do...
So overall, it's still a beautiful phone and I'm gonna keep it, but I guess I had really high expectations from reading all the reviews, and I was a bit disappointed...
If anyone knows any fixes especially for syncing with facebook, let me know
Got it this morning, and am totally in love with it.
Before the nexus i was using the Galaxy S1 for almost a year and the last month a iPhone 4s (which i got from work). Now i have a new love and its called Nexus.

Yeah , you are right. The battery is my only gripe about this phone . It drains a little too quickly for my liking. I'm going to buy a spare battery with the wall charger offline to be able to rotate between the two. Hopefully the new has a little bit more juice. Has anyone found any extended batteries for the GSM version yet?

At first I did not. So much so I traded my first GN away. The sheer size combined with other mentioned drawbacks had me dump it as fast as I could. I moved on and I remember groping in my pocket and thinking why is my phone so small? It just sort of grows on you and it sat rustling in the back of my brain. Ordered one the next day. This is now my daily driver. Once you embraced the quirks of stock it really does grow on you. The size is still a bit big for my taste but:
F#%@ Yes. I'm really digging it. Grab one, the hell with waiting.

I love this phone - best phone I've owned to date

Not much else to say.
..agreed..
I have an SGS2 and a Nexus so I am going to hold off on judging until I can get a stable ICS rom for the SGS2 Love the Nexus though!
I just got mine last week, and while I like some things about the Galaxy S II better (mainly the camera, I love a good shooter) I can't say I have any gripes about this phone other than the speaker, which sounds too quiet to me.

I also am really impressed by this phone, but more so by ICS and the developers here. The Galaxy Nexus along with my Xoom is a great combo for me.
I owned S Galaxy S before and had to tweak it, lagfix it etc to make it usable and now have Nexus and can say that phone is simply outstanding, I love the screen, speed is awesome and overall functionality is just great. Imho the Galaxy Nexus is the example of great hardware and software. I would recommend it to everyone and not just XDA users who will flash it to the extreme.
I will agree with this!

Yeah, I also love my G Nexus and I did a little videoreview about it for people who know spanish youtube.com/watch?v=5mGq4PkG0Lo
Great phone. This is my first Android (Coming from a BB 9780, Curve 8310, and before that a KRZR LOL). This has been the best phone experience I have had. Can't wait to experiment with ROMS! The only thing I'm a little disapointed with is the battery. Hopefully the ROMS here can help improve that!
I'm a iPhone user and I bought this phone last Saturday, I really have to say Android really stepped their game up with ics! The os is fluid, polished, and consistent. And most apps I have on my 4S was available on the android market! They really redesigned the os and it's a pleasure to use! I had a Motorola milestone and a captivate and I can tell you the difference is night and day period! That's a keeper for me, and couldn't be more happier with my purchase!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I have to agree also I love my GN I also have a galaxy s2 love the camera also but find that the pictures I take with my GN are very good for what I need to use my cell for not to mention the lack of wait time to snap a quick photo. as far as ics on sgs2 I will love that but I'm growing tired of overlays ( touchwiz has a few good uses though) and I gues I just love the fresh new look of android cause cause it's been a Long road from my G1 days .. Love the icons love the setting menu ,design of phone etc.
Nice to keep finding people with good things to say I know I've had my fair share of bugs and issues but like I said if I can roll with the bugs and issues when G1 first came out and I can just sit back and roll with these . Big shout out to all devs and everyone else on xda for all your work and help while also keeping my addiction alive and well
gotta say this phone is right at the top of the best phone i've had and been the most happy with. my n1 was up there too, and my nokia n97 years ago. the galaxy nexus is just a great package to me, beautiful and solid build especially looks-wise, the front all black glass with curved edges looks stunning, especially watching a full HD video is insane. the cpu chipset is elegant and well designed, including the GPU, and finally the screen and all etc. its just the perfect package or close to it IMO.
The only issues that bug me:
1) Wifi is kinda weak. On the other hand, I don't really have issues connecting or anything, so it's just a nitpick.
2) The slight green tint on whites. All the other screen issues I can't see, but I definitely see it when side-by-side my wife's G2X screen. Still, I'll take pure blacks and vibrant colors over that any day.
I also love how CM9 alphas are already rock-solid. Gotta love the nexus line.
Overall, it's easily my favorite phone. I've had G1, N1, G2, G2X, and GN. Quality phones all of them, but this one is the best.
I'm a huge Android fan (obviously) and anticipated that this phone would be a pretty decent upgrade from my Motorola Atrix. And I knew that there'd be some pretty decent developers with great ROMs and kernels to enjoy.
However, I was blown away with the quality of the Galaxy Nexus and the community following it. I am more than pleased with ICS and I'm blown away at how much better my user experience is than I had expected. I had some pretty realistic expectations or so I had thought, but they were vastly exceeded and I'm so happy!!
Lots of great folks in this sub forum here too. Some of the other ones like the Atrix ones had members that were getting really snippy and cynical with each other. Everyone's really laid back here... that must be because everyone here is so happy with their phones
hey hi hello!
Hello! My first post here (but I've been consuming all information from XDA for the past 1.5 years) and wanted to say - like all of you - that the Galaxy Nexus is definitely the best phone I have ever owned.
My first Android phone was Sprint's EPIC 4G - August 2010; Came from an iPhone 2G & 3G.
After that, I was hooked on Android. It was like the scene in Braveheart when he shouts "FREEEEEEEEDOOOMMM!!!!"
I also got the 2000 mAh OEM extended battery + cover, and have to say that it feels GREAT in the hand. No more "hump" at the bottom and it truly is seamless. I really like how it sits on a flat surface now.
Last but not least, since coming from the Epic 4G, then SGS II LTE, I have always been jealous with how much more community development and open dialogues are for the NEXUS models. Immediately after getting the SGS II LTE, (before GNex was out) I knew that I would jump onto a GNex asap.
Hope to see you all around more, and for me to post more helpful information!
What impresses me the most is this is the first Android phone that "just works " in my experience. No matter what I do or what I throw at it its rock solid smooth and fast. Great experience for novice Android users and experienced ones alike.
would you guys like the device even if it had vanilla Gingerbread on it?
i doubt it...

Amen. This is what impressed me most about this phone (and about ICS in general), it's good out of the box, and the changes I'm wanting (from ROMs) etc are more tweaks than major changes. I can't wait to see more of this from Android in the future.
I think you mean to say, "I love this OS."
Because the hardware on the phone blows (speaker, camera, etc).

I wouldn't say that - I have ICS on a Sensation and I've played with ICS on Nexus S and SGS2. I still prefer it on the GN so it's more than just software IMHO

Despite the Faults...

I love this device. Completely open, supported by AOSP. Fast, smooth, and gorgeous.
Some people just nitpick themselves into misery. There are always lemons (amoled screens, esp) in mass produced phones, but I feel like the Nexus is getting a rep that they are ALL like that. Its simply not true. There are issues, sure, but they can pretty much be remedied by software.
I've had this phone since the Verizon release and love everything about it except the radios (GPS and cell). It really showed up this weekend as I was in Northern Minnesota snowmobiling in some really bad reception areas. I normally use My Tracks to map our route and the GPS was constantly loosing it's lock and the map looked like a dotted route instead of a nice solid route. Also, my time without signal was around 58% when my brother and my old Droid X2 was only about 12%. Being that I love doing outdoor things in sketchy signal areas, I'm really hoping they fix the radio in the next build.
I have no issues with battery life, screen quality, overall size though. I love this phone and just wish that Samsung would buy Moto for their radio chips (although they aren't perfect either, but better than HTC and Samsung in my experience).
I also don't think I could go back to a phone without on screen buttons.
Yea this phone has it faults just like all phones do but its still a great phone
I loved your work on the Thunderbolt. I know you got a ROM out but its been pretty quiet. You guys got anything big coming?

I completely agree!! There is absolutely no phone for which I'd trade this one!!
Gotta get the Galaxy Nexus Plus.
I agree, Despite any of the flaws, i have gone threw roughly a dozen Android Handsets, from the G1, to G2x, Droid Razr, Sensation just to name a few. I even had the Galaxy S, which i HATED! But everything about this phone is amazing. Like any other device, it has its flaws (Battery compromised because of the HD screen) but overall, its completly open source, you can customize it to your exact liking, and runs like a beast.

I love my Nexus. People who nitpick haven’t been around the block as much as I have. After you’ve owned a myriad of other phones you truly appreciate the beauty and simplicity of the Nexus. Here's what I’ve been through over the past 2 years:
1) Samsung Capitivate – Terrible GPS and slooowww updates. Did I mention really bad GPS, like 200 yards off bad GPS..
2) HTC Inspire 4G – Good phone, terrible screen in the daylight, AT&T’s network.
3) HTC Thunderbolt – Sigh, extended battery was a brick, botched GB/voicemail update (what?, you left me a voicemail, when???). Spotty GPS and 4G issues.
4) Droid Bionic – Locked bootloader with no unlock in sight (I think). Screen and Moto blur started to annoy me.
I’ve only had my Nexus for a few days but I’m NOT going back to the above. Maybe I would feel differently if this was my first Android phone but it wasn’t. Other than battery life I have no complaints worth talking about. This phone stays until the next Nexus is released, period!
Ive had sprint for years, and recently got out of my ETF because of their new discount policy. I switched to att just to get the Galaxy Nexus unlocked on their hspa+ network and it has been amazing so far. Sprint has such a long way to go to even begin their LTE launch. So sad to see the leader of 4g technology take a big dump on the wireless industry
Had sprint for years until their 3g and lol 4g got over sold. Left for AT&T and couldn't be happier. Have 5 lines with AT&T and moved my last odd line from sprint to Verizon for the nexus and again, night and day service difference.
Funny thing is my Verizon costs are the same as sprint. Texting through google voice and I use grooveip for calls when my minutes get low. 4gb of data is plenty for me especially when it actually works. Most of my sprint speed tests were measured in fractions of a mbit. Usually sub 150 kbs. Pathetic. They can keep their premium data add on
Aridon i did exactly what you did! Left for ATT got an unlocked Nexus though. never been happier
Completely agree with OP, this is probably the best phone I have ever had, hands down. I have no issues with it what so ever.

I'll add that you should push verizon for a new phone if you are having a lot of data and/or voice drops.
I got a new phone and the difference is night and day... No drops now
+1 on this. Coming from HTC I was very skeptical about Samsung and their plastic and the 'less good' GPU. But everything else is so got damn great about this phone that the plastic and GPU doesn't bug me anymore . I'm sure I'll keep this phone until the next nexus is out .

Ya, I'm pretty stoked about it...
It just makes me more excited for the 2013/2014 nexus!!!
I can't wait to hear the complaints then! ...We'll be complaining about having a 8-core nexus with 4GB ram when 16-core phones with 8GB ram are just around the corner!

Quick decision: S3 vs Optimus G

Im about to get a sprint phone and i need to decide (before this friday) if i want an Optimus G or a Galaxy S3 (or an iphone 5).
Im currently on Tmobile and i just cannot wait to get rid of my HTC Sensation!
I love the specs on Optimus G: however its still on ICS and the android development on it seems dead so far :/ :\ where as on the Galaxy S3 the specs and battery life arent as good but it has a solid developer team!
What would you guys say?
ps: iphone 5 is an option just because i love to switch and try new things. it also has all the google apps i would want/need
It's really all about preference, ask yourself what is it that you want in a phone.
I choose the Optimus G over the Galaxy S3 because the hardware was amazing and I had high hopes for the community since this is a the older brother of the Nexus 4. I could not see myself buying a dual core phone when quad core phones are just beginning to come out. I was afraid the GS3 would get outdated in a couple of months if I bought it around that time frame (last month for me).
Development will be getting a lot better soon. From what I've seen and read, we are close to having CM and other ROM's for this phone. Optimus G is the way to go.
LGOG ftw. There's a reason Google picked this phone to base its Nexus 4 off of.
Get to a sprint store and try them both. I went to play around with the note 2 and before I left I asked about the LG. After I tried it out I headed over to best buy and picked one up for 49.99 (99-50 phone freedom gift card). I still think it was the best move for me. I really wanted the note 2 for the size. I'm glad I didn't since I'm still trying to adjust to the larger size of the lg (came from a nexus s).
Coming from a Note II without a doubt Optimus G over S III. Optimus G is one of the best performing and best looking phones out.
Development will pick up... Christmas break soon will help. One thing i've noticed about the OG over my ancient samsung is that the radios seem really good. GPS locks on in a couple seconds and coverage is fantastic. Samsung has traditionally had problems with their radios.

I must say, I don't really use gps alot, maybe during the golfing season, but I used it for sh*ts and giggles on
my way to my wifes work, and the Nav was dead nuts. I mean to the middle of the intersection. I am really
impressed with it. My Evo lte was never this accurate.
Go with the S3 if you can get it for .99. Honestly I would wait for the LGOG to go down the $99 (entirely possible this Xmas since it was $99 for black friday) to get all its bugs fixed, or at least until Jelly Bean comes out.
It must be the apps I'm running or the games I'm playing but the phone just gets hot all the time after game play and it starts to lag a bit...it also has issues with wakelocks that causes the battery to drain at a slightly faster pace. Hopefully they fix that bug soon. Those are my only complaints. Other than that the phone is super fast, great battery when not gaming and the screen is amazingly clear. I love the sleek square-ish design and it's ability to run anything I've thrown at it.
After owning the s3, iphone 5, and this all I can say is the hardware is in another league the materials used in the iphone are better and the camera on the others are better but this screen is great the phone is fast and our feels like more of a premium device than the s3. I am completely happy with my decision to buy this phone but your decision will be personal preference minus the 1080p screen I feel like this is what we will be the class of devices released next year. Oh and try to test the s3 in bright conditions because in my experience it was a little to dim

This. Screen is dim on the s3 in direct light. I never notice until I got the DNA. Next week I'll be getting the lgog for my gf. Feels snappier and more quality in the hand than the s3 for real. I don't know about the iPhone. I'm a dedicated fanboy

I noticed it because I had an evo lte prior to the and I could everything without issue outside. When I got the s3 it became more of an issue I couldn't play certain games or watch videos because the screen just wasn't bright enough. I with this phone I have no issue even without using auto brightness and the display set to 50%

Agreed,
only two complaints for me. Both having to do with heat issues. I've been doing some heavy gaming. Mostly FPS , gta, Max Payne......very graphic heavy games with eco mode on and off. Screen brightness 50% or more. Yeah it gets hot fast. Nothing to concerning though.
Second. When the phone is too hot it automatically reduces and forces a lower brightness level. Usually around 60% I've noticed. However its still plenty bright.
Other than that the phone is an absolute beast. Also with the quad core it will be better suited for up and coming apps / games.

What drove you away from the note 2? I'm trying to decide between the two phones.
