so are the telus and euro hero the same hard ware wise?
could i install the telus ruu and get hspa on the 1900/850 bands? cuz my antenna can get it, it just takes gsm/egde/gprs instead of hsdpa...
does anyone know where i can find a link to this ruu?
if its not for sure, will i be able to just use my recovery image after?
if not because its an ruu, could someone package the ruu into an update.zip so i dont loose the recovery image in case it goes wrong?
thank you so much!
also to be sure
i thought i could use my phone as it is on telus! In which case,
1. is it possible to be partially unlocked?
cuz i can use rogers but not telus
2. why would telus site say my phone works when it doesnt?
3. how do i check if my phone is unlocked when i stick in a telus card and it doesnt ask for an unlock code!?
4. maybe they havnt worked out their kinks yet?
thanks again
The cpu controlls the radio bands, these are preset, one chip for us radio bands and one for euro, so your radio problem is hardware not software and your stuck with what you got ...... sorry
It's not 100% confirmed about the hardware. But at this time, no quad HSDAP band unlocks
you just got me super stoked... are you saying that the phone might be capable... it just has to be unlocked or something?

European Hero = Hero100
Telus Hero = Hero130
2 different product numbers, which means.. different hardware. The radios are not software locked, they physically non existant in the phone you have

Switching to Rogers won't help with the frequency issue.

Except that he will get GPRS/EDGE on Rogers, whereas he gets nothing on Telus. because apparently they don't have a 2G network, and haven't signed a roaming agreement with a carrier that does.

Yup. GPRS/Edge works on Rogers. And to be honest, 3G data transmission seems as slow as Edge (I've got both a European and North American Hero) at times (a lot of the time). Must be those darn iPhone users sucking up all the bandwidth.
i dont use data anyways so not having 3g doesnt effect mee (using pay as you go)
and whoa they sell sim cards for $40! but i found for 15 just gotta wait like three days for it in the mail :\

Depends where you live, im a tester for Ericsson and i work everynight on Rogers sites, devices are all capped at 7.2mbit and the max you can get out of the connection is close to 3mbit.. its not network congestion its just a softcap set by Rogers to not cause congesting.
i dont know if they are made available to the public, but i use a 21mbit usb aircard for my tests and on Rogers i get 15mbit in montreal.
HTC MAGIC on TELUS.
if i purchase an htc magic unlocked originally from rogers will it work with telus hspa data + phone?
Here's a thought!
If you've a question about the Magic, why not go to the Magic forums and ask it there, instead of posting on the Hero forums where it is just spam?
Regards,
Dave

Ha on rogers maybe, but on Bell 3G speeds on my phone are 4MB/s down, and 1MB/s up.
Looked everywhere but have only found a few comments mainly regarding the AT&T network.
I have a AT&T branded Tilt-2 with TP2_Core_Cell_Evo_V3.1_(23127) and am on the T-mobile network.
In my area we have HSDPA and 3G, and my HTC 3G Dash shows those connections and runs from 583K up to 898K.
My Tilt2 on the other hand runs between 36K and a max of 156K (usually its under 50K)
I have tried everything and a ton of different radios and nothing seems to help.
I can't believe I am the only one, and I am sure its in the forum but I havent been able to find it and I have been looking for 2 days now. Does ANYONE know if there is a solution to this or am I stuck with a great looking phone and ROM that is slower than my old HTC Universal.
So I am starting this thread with the keywords in the title to help others find the info/help/cab/settings to fix this issue.
Any help would be appreciated..
Charles
Can I assume from the deafening silence that there is no solution and this would be why I couldn't find anything when I was searching all over the forums.
I thought AT&T and T-mobile use different bands for their 3G...haven't met anyone yet that can switch between these two and get the others' 3G service to work on the phone from the other...only Edge.
Yep, 3G are are different bands and AT&T's unique.
Most likely, hardware limit and T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 version is what you wanted.
However, for my Tilt 2, I use AT&T Prepaid Pay-as-you-go and get full 3G service and for $20 get 30 days of 100MB data at full speed. The Pay-as-you-go offers a $3.00 per day for unlimited calls during 24 hour period when you choose plan.
But the settings on the phone even show the 2100MHZ band and other stuff.. thought quad band phones were useable on all GSM networks. I guess that must mean the phones are but not the data portion of the phone.
So it would seem I have a really nice looking phone thats about as functional as a Windows 7 computer with a 56K dialup modem. Great...
Anyone on AT&T and have a T-mobile Touch Pro2 that they would like to swap with me.
when you talk about gsm (gprs/edge/2g), there are 4 bands and pretty much all devices can work on those. when it comes to umts (3g/hspa encap) thats where proprietary bands come in. word wide you will have the 900 and 2100 bands, att uses the 850 and 1900 bands, and tmobile uses 1700. what bands a phone is capable of running on depends on the baseband hardware in the phone. theres no way to change this without basically swapping the phone out for the carrier branded device.
cdma like sprint and verizon is another monster...

They do, but working and working optimally are 2 different things. You should always buy a phone to work on the network you use regularly, and be happy it works at all on others when you travel.
Live and learn..
I wonder if anyone out there in the community has a TouchPro2 that they got for use on AT&T and would like to swap..?
Charles
Can't get 3G Either
I'm using an unlocked HTC Touch Pro 2 (Euro Version) on T-Mobile and can only get Edge. The funny hting is that T-mobile is stumped on the issue even though they've seen that I'm using an HTC Touch Pro 2, not the branded T-Mo version. I just started looking into hardware differences tonight and will post whatever I find. I'm glad you started the thread.
T-Mobile HSPA bands
Just confirmed my suspicions.
The branded T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 operates on HSPA/WCDMA on the following bands: 1700/2100 MHz.
The HTC Touch Pro 2 (unbranded) operates on HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz.
So, if you want 3G, you need to stick with the T-Mobile branded phone.
Wow...I never thought I'd hear myself saying those words. *sigh* =(
I actually have a t-mobile branded HTC Touch Pro 2 I use on ATT, if you really wanna swap I'm totally down for that. My email is [email protected] shoot me a message and lets work out how to go about this.
hi, i have a brand new rhodium t-mobile version, flashed with the nrg rom feb 1st.
when i use the data connection the phone connects to the edge network, while the same sim card connects to 3g/H on a motorola milestone. i read on google that 2 or 3 users (the phone isn't sell in argentina) that have the same problem...
the 3g network in argentina works in the 1900/850 band, so i have it configured that way but it doesn't work.
does anyone knows how to solve this, please?
thanks in advance

3G with the T-Mobile version (RHOD210) works on the 1700/2100 MHz AWS spectrum. You will not be able to use 3G on your network with this device. There is no fix or work around. This is a hardware limitation.
EDIT: You should have gotten the Tilt2 (RHOD300). This is the AT&T branded version that has radio hardware which supports your network.

ok, last question, why in the band section it has the option to use 1900/850 Mhz?

that´s what i thought that it would work..

If it truly does support switching bands, as the link you posted would indicate:
http://support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm5...5611&navtypeid=6&pagetypeid=7&prevPageIndex=5
Then, I would recommend flashing the Stock ROM. Then see if you can get it to work with the stock T-Mobile ROM. If you can, then it probably is possible to do it using an Energy ROM as well. But, I don't think it is possible.
I am not that familiar with T-Mobile phones, since I use an AT&T Tilt 2. It seems unlikely that this would work, since in the United States even the T-Mobile HD2 doesn't get 3G when SIM unlocked and switched to use the AT&T network with an AT&T SIM.

That band switching feature is to set network preferences for your carrier outside of the US. The radio hardware does not support UMTS 3G. You will only be able to get EDGE speeds at best from this device on your carrier. You need the RHOD300 (Tilt2) to get 3G on your network.
that´s a bummer
thanks for your answers

Anytime. Sorry for the disappointing news.
I have CM7 loaded, but doesn't really matter what rom I load, I can't seem to get 3G data speeds. I am getting internet, so that tells me the APN is setup correctly, just not 3G. Any thoughts?
Jason
probably need to look into a different radio
Any ideas? I tried 3 different ones!

The model I have is A7272 and I have an AT&T sim. Do you think the sim tells the phone what band to use for 3G? They have the option of a T-mobile sim, does anyone think that will work?
look up the A7272 on gsm arena to see what 3G band it supports and cross reference it with ATT's 3G band
Sent from my Desire Z via XDA App
I think it was because I had an ATT sim. I got a T-mobile sim and now I'm getting "H" everywhere. Still doesn't seem as fast as Verizon's 3G, but for $45/month I can't beat it. So the A7272 supports HSDPA 900 / 2100, is that why with the T-Mobile sim I can get H, because they have a 2100 HSDPA Frequency?
AT&T uses the 850/1900 spectrum for 3g and the 700mhz spectrum for 4g.
Since your phone supports none of those, that's why.
T-Mobile uses 1700/2100 (requiring both) or 1900 for 3g/4g. now, you only have half of the 2 spectrum requirement so you probably only have "half" 3g. Tmobile uses one spectrum for upload and one for download. I don't know which one is which, but if you only have one, that means you'll only get 3g/4g speed on either uploads or downloads, but not both.
I guess I fell into this trap as well... I bought a desire z thinking I could use 3g on it with my ATT/Straight talk sim. After unlocking and re-roming, I now see the same issue, stuck on Egde, and really slow edge at that.
jch2os, did you see a difference in your service area/call quality switching to the tmobile sim? I've been really happy using an Inspire on Straight talk with ATT's network, do you feel the tmobile service is a downgrade from what you previously had with ATT/Straight talk?
Thanks for the info!
After some research via eBay and Amazon, it turns out that there is two versions of the Desire Z. There is the A7272 which supports the WCDMA 900/2100 MHz bands and the A7275 which supports the 3G 850/1900 MHz bands.
idenlover, if your device is getting EDGE on the Straight Talk sim that runs on AT&T's bands, your device is the A7272 and you should get the T-Mobile Straight Talk sim. I myself am a G2 user on T-Mobile and I can say service and calling is pretty much crystal clear except in school, where there are numerous concrete buildings. Then again, I'm based in Miami, FL so I wouldn't know how service would be on your end. I hope this helps!
if you want AT&T you need the A7275 from bell canada.
Hi all! Look like i have the same problem. I have Desire Z from Russia - with russian symbols in a hard-keyboard. And in FIDO network i have only EGDE signal - never 3G. My question: what a part of phone i need change? Antenna? GSM-module? or something other? Please don't advice me change the phone - i need this keyboard, with russian symbols!!! )
P.S. If anybody know solution this problem in software (any radio, ROM, or etc.) - please, answer me too. I don't want a lot open the phone and change any parts, only if this really needed. )
P.P.S. If it important - my h-boot is 0.84.2000.

From what I get from your problem is that your phone doesnt support the FIDO network 3g bands. I think that is hardware locked. Hopefully somebody can chime in

add another one to the list. how did you fix your problem, if at all? this stupid edge crap is garbage.
Hi everybody, I am going to live in the US for a semester and I want an american number. I found the possibility of buying a Sim Card on T-Mobile and use it with my unlocked phone. The problem is that my phone does not appear in the list of compatible phones. My phone is HTC Desire (Bravo), European model. In the box it appears the following: GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and HDSPA/WCDMA 900/2100.
Will I get 3G? I've talked to several operators, each one tells me a different thing. There was even one who asked for my IMEI and told me 3G would work 100% sure. Others tell me that I won't only get EDGE speed.
Who can clarify this? It is REALLY important. I LOVE my cellphone, I don't want one of those prepaid phones that are crap, I'd only buy another phone if it would be better than mine, but they are really expensive and it has no sense to buy a cellphone for 4 months when I have one cellphone that I love.
WHAT CAN I DO? I will use data on a daily basis to connect with my family overseas!
Most of US carriers use 850 and 1900MHz for GSM and 1700 and 1900 for HSPA and WCDMA, so I think you won't have luck with 3G, but the rest will do perfectly.
