try updating it... if it failed then u cant update it.. n if it started updating then its safe.. keep a backup though
You need to be on Stock ROM to update via Kies. Or you can flash an update via Odin manually. But it'l take you back to Stock ROM. Or if a ROM is based on a newer version, flashing the ROM will update your version.
You'l get an 'Use Kies to Update' error when updating using your phone.

Try any odex version of sense rom. Full versions will do. Look in the development section. Many roms are there, download one and unzip your required files. Its a pain to upload around 70 mb with slow network like mine. I'd suggest wildchild sense. Direct Download

What is in boot.img? Will rom work without that?
Rom will not boot without that. But I thought you need only the system files. Download the rom from the direct download link. In that zip you will see a folder name system. And in that folder you'll see another folder named app. I know nothing about porting. So I don't know if you put these system apks in your mobile, it will work or not. I personally tried to put sense 3.5 system apks in sense 2.1. They never worked. I'll upload the sense 2.1 latest files. Wait a little as my upload rate is quite low.

Trust me HTC sense 2.1 is total bullsheet. U r operating system is way better. I am always using either non-sense versions or sense 3.5.
I know nothing about porting. I am not a dev. There are posts about them in many places. I havent read those yet. U can research on google code/xda/youtube/wiki etc.

Hi,
as rezo said simply download HTC Stock RUU, run it on PC while it starts, goto explorer type %temp% on navigator, you will see a long folder name with this { } , inside in a sub folder you will find Rom.zip. Copy it and unzip it. You can get all the system files of a HTC Stock ROM, including system.img, boot.img and recovery.img.
If you are achieved the task with Sony Ericsson, pls post it back.
Hope this may be useful. (if really press 'Thanks')

But this doesn't help me I hate .img files) . Our x8 has cache.img data.img system.img if we made backup. But if we create flashable zip to flash in recovery, there's no .img files. There is just system folder and meta-inf!
Forget all, thanks for helping me. I'm just not guy for porting!

found this with a qhick google:
The blobs folder contains portions of your CWM backups.
When you make a new backup, CWM checks the blobs folder to see what has changed between backups, since it's likely that a lot has remained the same.
This can actually save a lot of space, and make backups happen faster.

I asume you also have an Xperia S, you can unlock its bootloader by going to: unlockbootloader.sonymobile.c om./instructions (without the space between c and om )
Because I have a Xperia S myself, the only MOD I have experience with is CyanogenMod. It is a very good one in my eye's here is a link on how to download and install it on your Xperia: /androidlegend.c om/xperia-s-update-to-android-4-1-jelly-bean-with-cyanogenmod-10 (without the space between c and om )
P.S. You MUST unlock your Xperia's bootloader before doing anything else with it..... If you don't understand how to do all this stuff, PLEASE do not start with this.

You should try taking your data.yaffs2 image file from a cwm backup, extract it using unyaffs (just google it) and take the /app folder under the extracted directory.
Then, make a flashable zip that mounts /data and then extract it, and it should be working fine
Edit:
about touchpads, I think that the changes would pretty much be located into the framework.jar, so try taking it from an ics rom that has touchpads working
