i am still learning more and more..
ok i guess i used to have Stock CW (Blue)
i flashed MIUI and it had me upgrade to CW 3.0.0.8 (orange)
doing this i did not know that i would i guess render my other older Nandroid backups i made useless...
Soo my question is do i stay on CW 3.0.0.8 and reflash all my roms .. will they (shooter, runny, wildstang) work with this CW 3.0.0.8?
or should i go back to stock.. and how do i go back to stock and if i go back to stock again will my old nandroids work again?
thank you
The easiest way to flash any CWM version is using ROM Manager. The current version is actually 5.0.2.0. Which is blue. You don't have to reflash any of your ROMs when you upgrade and then backup. The restore system should work with the previous CWM recoveries.
the older back ups i made are not working ...
i am in Rom manager and it does say Current Recovery : 5.0.2.0
when i restart the phone and go into recovery it says 3.0.0.8
i figured it out .. !!!
thank you though

Watch out.... I've had ROM Manager repeatedly do bad flashes of CWR on my dInc. Don't trust it until you've made backups of your current ROM.

Been known to happen. Safest way is to tell ROM Manager to erase recovery prior to flashing. I kind of feel that should be default, and not an option.

when i download anything from rom manager i wont install it just goes the clockwork main menu then i restart phone go back into rom manager and he tells me clockwork is broken not sure what to do
i can still nand back up and restore and install zips it just has to be done through clock work which means i cant do the adons for virtous rom and such any ideas
I would unroot leave s-off alone them re-root and reinstall the custom recovery. that is one program you dont want crashing while a flash is in progress. you may end up with a $600 brick.
i reflashed clockwork and no avail it still says recovery failure in rom manager any help would be great
Try, in ROM Manager, flashing to a downgrade of Clockwork, back up to the current one, and Fix Permissions. That's what ROM Manager says to do, but I've never had it work. I've used Jonathan062 suggestion in the past, and it worked.
works fine for me, i have 2.2 with root and S-off and i just hit install and it worked fine.

Yes, your nandroid will still work. You can actually take your nandroid and restore it to a completely different Incredible.
Are you talking about the Amon_Ra style recovery? I haven't tried it, but from the thread linked here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=758874&page=11 it looks like people are having mixed success.
I have looked across this forum and two other forums and have not found an answer which will satisfy me.
I have successfully rooted and flashed different ROMs many times, so the whole process is not anything I don't understand.
I can successfully flash any of the Cyanogens, Incredibly Re-engineered, Redemption, and SkyRaider ROMs.
I CAN NOT flash but ONE ROM with 'Z' in the title and that is Incredibly Re-engineered Z. Every other ROM such as Super Z, Warm Z 2.2, IncDoes, Uber Z
My DInc will just sit at the HTC Incredible white screen when I reboot after a successful load via clockworkmod.
I have left it sitting for 30 minutes plus while sitting at work. Nothing. Only choice I have is to restore from backup to a working ROM.
Any suggestions?
The ROM's you quoted are mostly using ClockWorkMod Recovery version 3 for the install. If you are on CWM version 2 the result you are getting is kind of expected. The v3 scripts are not compatible with v2 but v2 does not know any better so tries to install it.
Go into ROM Manager and see what recovery you are on and use RM to install CWM v 3.0.0.7
I would then try installing the ROM with RM selecting the wipe option
SIDE NOTE: If you are on CWM v3 and you try to install a v2 based ROM CWM will tell you that it is outdated
That is what I saw on other sites, but I have the latest version of clockworkmod v3.0.0.8 and have flashed the ROMs successfully with it, but they just wont go past the HTC Incredible white screen. The ones that gave me script errors, I have flashed down to clockworkmod v2.5.1.7 or whichever i seen in the OP of that ROM
I just do not understand it. =( ... I dont wanna be limited
Sounds like it could be related to you not having a Samsung Fascinate. I'd try to get a Samsung Fascinate and then you might have better luck.
Get back to work.

You probably did not catch my recommendation to use 3.0.0.7. 3.0.0.8 has known problems with not clearing everything.
In ROM Manager at the bottom install CWM 3.0.0.7 and try flashing the ROM from the SD Card with ROM Manager and select the wipe option.

I might have to try this too as I'm having troubles installing roms and sticking in boot loop ..
If I change to CWM 3.0.0.7 from my current 3.0.0.8, will my previous backups on 3.0.0.8 still be useable through 3.0.0.7?
Thanks!

Yes your backups will work
I will give that a try. I currently have only two flashable files for clockworkmod ... v3.0.0.8 and v2.5.1.2
I'll try and find the previous versions of clockworkmod, nandroid backup my working ROM, wipe data/factory reset, cache and dalvik and try this one more again.

Thanks. I am up and running now. WarmZ twoPOINTtwo nightlies 03/31 =D
Very smoooth
After you root and install ROM manager, how do you flash the ROMS. i mean i know the steps but i must be doing something wrong. Here is what I'm doing.
i have a mesmerize by the way.
1. Open Rom Manager
2. Install ROM from SD Card
Do i need to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery first?
Any help would be very greatly appreciated ...i might even name my first born after you.
and if you can tell be where i can get custom battery, and Wifi ROMS for the mesmerize i may even name my second after you also.
Yes, you will need a custom recovery to flash a custom ROM. CWM or Amon_Ra flashed through Rom Manager will do the trick. Once you have the recovery sorted you can/should do a backup of your current setup. Again, this can be done from Rom Manager.
Now you can move on to flashing a custom ROM.
I'm having a problem getting the Roms installed, cwm says something about edifying. i have cwm 3.0.0.8. i went back and downgraded my ROM manager to 2.5.0.7 but my cwm is still 3.0.0.8.

There is a section in Rom Manager with older versions of CWM. It's that you want, not an older version of RM.
it would probably be easier to boot into recovery and install your custom rom from there. The method to get into recovery is different for each phone though.
Remember to wipe before installing a custom rom tho.

I've looked for the older versions of CWM in RM but cant seem to find them. What are they under? Sorry if I'm being a bother.
Hi XDAers
i have been sat in front of my DHD for about 20-30 mins with it on the green HTC boot screen after restoring a nandroid backup to test it. The rom is 2.2.1 (froyo, about 600MB altogether with my data) and the CWM recovery is one of the newest...i think 3.0.2.8.
I am starting to wonder if it just takes this long or if there is a problem...any ideas?
i read this post in another forum about someone having trouble restoring a nandroid backup>
"The issue was that i was on clockwork 3.0.0.5, which i was on even when i backed up the stock rom. 3.0.0.5 allows for gingerbread flashing, but not froyo. So if you experience an issue like this, downgrade to 2.5.1.2 in rom manager and try recovering - lucky for me, even nandroids made in 3.0.0.5 were compatible with 2.5.1.2 "
thanks
Problem solved by reflashing 3.0.2.6 - 3.0.2.8 didnt restore my backups (i think the thread can be closed)
been like this for well over 1 hour now....any ideas???? pleeeeeaaaase
No, its not suppose to take that long.
It never took my phone longer than 1 min to pass the green 'HTC' screen. When it does, that means its stuck....
i take out the battery, put it back in, vol down + power on (for 1 sec, but keep your hand on vol down) which will take you to bootloader. Choose the Recovery option, which will take u to CWM recovery.
Try restoring again. If it still doesnt boot, then either restore a more previous nandroid version, or just flash a new ROM
Ok thanks
can anyone recommend the safest versions (or a generally quite safe version0 of cwm recovery and rom manager for a 2.2.1 DHD?
Well, when installing ROM Manager and flashing the recovery, 3.0.2.6 is flashed, because its their official release designed for the DHD. Yet the other one, although also designed for the DHD, isnt official.
But i cant really say that 3.0.2.8 is bad, -- its just not official
And the version of ROM Manager doesnt matter, its just an app, its the CWM Recovery that matters.
im currently using .2.6 and its fine
Thanks
i solved the prob by flashing 3.0.2.6 and it all worked fine again...in my opinion a problem with 3.0.2.8
I successfully rooted my phone a few days ago using the Revolutionary method and flashed ClockworkMod Recovery without a problem. Then I flashed CyanogenMod 7.1.0 again without a problem. I noticed my gps has been having an issue detecting my location so I figured I should flash the nandroid for my stock rooted android 2.3.3 rom and see if the issue still exists. My main problem is that I can't boot into recovery. Apparently I have the latest version of Clockwork. I try to boot into recovery using different methods and I keep ending up at the white screen that says 'Revolutionary' in pink at the top with the 3 skateboarding androids at the bottom. I try to get to recovery from that screen also still with no success. It just reboots into that screen. I was thinking I may have to use the ruu to unroot my Evo (I rather find an alternative solution). How can I regain my ability to boot into recovery? Any help would be much appreciated...

If grab the pc36img for amon_ra, throw it in the root of your SD, using a card reader in a computer, get into hboot and let it install. Then try to get into recovery. F clockwork anyway.....90% of the peeps around here having problems are running that recovery

Turn off your phone, then when turning it on hold the volume rocker in the down position, you will then boot into hboot settings, hboot will automatically check for the update file(PC36IMG)after its done, scroll to recovery and enter that way,if you still cant get into recovery, you will need to download and reinstall the latest revolutionary root tool,i recommend using "TeamWin Recovery Project" i've never had a problem with it.

I was actually going to go the amon ra route because i was familiar with it while I had a HTC Hero. But TWRP v2 caught my attention and I decided to go that route. So far so good as far as I can tell. I made a nandroid backup. Thanks. Any tips or info I should know about using TWRP?
And 1 more thing. I have a nandroid backup from when I had clockwork recovery. I should still be able to flash that back up right?

Nope you can't flash your CWM backup since your on TWRP. You would have to flash back to the version of CWM that you made the backup with

I installed a new recovery after i installed revolution, because i also had recovery issues. The version should be at the top of the recovery screen.I didnt like rom manager too much, for some reason it gives me problems.
They say that this version of Amon can be used to restore clockwork backups. I haven't tried it with clockwork myself because I avoids clockworkmod.
Thanks for the help everyone. Everything is gravy now. I'm happy with TWRP. I do have a question for making a backup. By default in TWRP, the 1st 3 boxes are checked up for when attempting to make a backup. Do any of you guys ever check the other boxes (Recovery, cache, .android_secure) and if so, why? Also, when you attempt to wipe before restoring, which items do you guys wipe? Any other tips or suggestions about this recovery would appreciated too.
I backup everything except cache.
