The reason that i ask this question is that i bought my mother a droid incredible 2 as she needed a solid phone to use for her business and something for her emails, easy web access, amongst many other things business oriented that her LG flip phone couldnt do. The issue is i dont live anwhere near her so i cant do the only root methof that we currently have, bc im not there, and it would be overly dificult to remote in and explain to her and all that. My question is, is there going to be something as easy as unrevoked or revolutionary that will come out for this update? THat i can explain over the phone, not a problem. Dont flame me for asking, if you look at my stats ive been here for some time and dont need someone telling me to wait if im a noob, im not, i just dont have easy access to the phone. also, is there any easy way to to tether? without root? like changing something in the service menu? that is a fool proof tested way to work? sorry for all the questions, ive stopped coming here for a while bc f some dooche in the fascinate forums, that ended up in the thunderbolt forums, that then ended up in the bionic forums and i just got tired of him. I've read through the forums and the answer seems to be, "Yes, you can now obtain root without the clip. But only if you're competent in Swahili, like everyone ought to be. Otherwise, you don't have any business asking questions about how to do it."

not using the OTA you cant, but if you search there is a flashable version of 2.3.4 i believe

As the title states there is currently no way to root the OTA. I'll read the forums and delete this when there is. But this is to cut down on the # of threads asking about the same question.

All that does is get you S-OFF. Doesn't give you root. You still have to flash a ROM to get root.

But I read somewhere that root was possible on 2.3 stock!!!
So how far do you guys think we are away from stock GB root without the clip? I just got mine, and have a chance to get it refunded if I want to. It took so long to get here, I feel that S-OFF will be accomplished without it any day now. Opinions?

Just got done trying that, it's a no go.
I'm debating what to do as well. I just got the phone yesterday, and I don't know if I should get the xtc clip or what. I upgraded early so Verizon wouldn't let me get a 4G phone for some reason.
Is there anyone out there that can help me take my inc2 and downgrade to the stock software so I can root it?

No, not yet. Once you get the Ginerbread update you are out of luck and must wait for a new rootable exploit to be discovered. Both the AlphaRev team and the Unrevoked team as well as others are actively working on trying to find new exploits.
The other choice is to find someone that has a XTC Clip diagnostic device that can be used to gain S-OFF on your device which will then allow you to install a custom recovery and custom rooted ROMs.
There is a number of threads on this. There is no way, as of now, to downgrade. The only way to get root, if you have 2.3.3, is to buy an XTC clip.

The devs don't normally come in these threads and post. Some people would be bugging them for ETAs, or flaming.

If you visit the Revolutionary site, there are a number of links to some of the developers that are working on GB root exploits. With a little investigation into Twitter land, you will see that they are working on several HTC devices. One of the exploits will work on the Desire S, so it is only a matter of time before they figure out how to make it work on the Incredible S/Dinc2, too.

That is only for those with S-OFF via AlpharevX to downgrade back to Froyo and the stock boot loader. You need to be S-OFF and, correct me if i'm wrong, will still be S-OFF after the downgrade. It will not work if you're S-ON with GB, unfortunately.

Yes, that's how I got my clip. That's why I'm S-OFF'd and running newtoroot's bad ass sense 3.0 rom.

i am patiently waiting. I miss my old evo rooted. I was actually given a brand new evo that had 2.2 on it and the ota showed up and without thinking i updated. So mad about that.

There are several options to tether wirelessly for free. Wifi tether, barnacle, pdanet for example.

no worries, there is a workaround to downgrade to hboot .97 then you can get s-off and root.
I just got a replacement. My usb port broke and the new one came with hboot .98 again... I have been trying the steps in the link above but I can't find the fastboot they list.

Um...... 2 things.
1. you could ask nicely "if" work is being done to gain root to these two firmwares
2. its quite possible that devs are working on it but have yet to find a way to gain root access........
And the moral of this write up.......... politeness goes a long way..... asking like an a$$hole gets the opportunity doors slammed in your face.... seriously if you are not happy about "WHY THE HELL HAS NO ONE GOT OFF THEIR LAZY A***'S AND TRIED TO FIND A METHOD, then how about YOU find out how to do these things so YOU can do it your self.

The real answhere is: NO ONE CARES A FU*K ABOUT LOCKED BOOTLOADER. Just unlock. Than you flash Doomkernel and you have root. Always on newest Firmware.
Locked Bootloader sucks in many ways.

Your age is not an excuse. Stop hiding from your dumbass mistakes. I had more sense and was more polite than you when I was 12. You used a similar defence when accusing me of copying your status bar. Stupidity is not limited to age and ill mannered logic definitely is NOT. There's also a roundabout method of rooting the .62 firmware(.69 is german only according to xperia blog) which if you cared to research would've found.
