Dear all,
I'm trying to following this guide to install cm7 on my xperia play:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Sony_Ericsson_Xperia_Play:_Full_Update_Guide
I can't unlock the bootloader - I turn the phone off, hold down search and plug in the use cable, and nothing happens.
Just out of curiority, I tried the other hardware buttons - and pressing the back button (while the phone was off, and pluggin in a cable)
= This made the 's1download' device appear in Device manager, but none of the drivers would install for it.
Phone is
Xperia Play (white)
Model: R800i
Android: 2.3.3
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Is your phone by any chance simlocked?

Yes it's possible to unlock your sim and bootloader, it'll cost you a little money though (about 15£).
Check this link out on how to:

hy guys
i have orange branded xperia arc
i want to remove its branding, for that purpose i flash the 3.0.A.2.181 generic firmware in it using flash tools... the orange logo disappear while its starting but
still i have a problem
and that is...
i want to connect my phone with computer to unlock its bootloader but while i holddown the menu button and connect the usb cable its turn on and start charging.
no blue light notification comes
so please tell me how can i totally remove its banding or how i can connect it in that mode
or simply i can ask how can we connect a branded phone in fast bootloader mode
At this point in time, we are not able to enter into fastboot mode with a sim-locked phone. Changing the firmware or unlocking the sim doesn't allow us to enter fastboot. Right now all we can do is wait
And what about a branded Arc WITHOUT sim lock?
Is that one bootloader unlockable (after debranding)?
Hi!
I've recently bought my Arc with an O2 (Ireland) contract but the phone doesn't seem to have any apparent signs of branding...... ie. no logos or O2 apps (apart from the default homepage of the browser which is set to O2). Also, I recently got an unlock key from the network, so it's network unlocked too.
My goal is to root the phone. But first I have to unlock the bootloader, right? So I went off to unlock the bootloader but my biggest problem so far is that I can't get the phone into fastboot mode- ie. when I disconnect the phone, then turn it off completely and press and hold the menu button (on the bottom right) and reconnect it........ the light is supposed to turn blue but it doesn't! The light never turns on but instead, the sony ericsson logo comes on for a few seconds and then the batter charging symbol comes on.....
I've also managed to flash its ROM to a debranded version but still couldn't get into fastboot mode even in that....
Can somebody please let me know how I can get my phone into fastboot mode?
Thanks a million!
you don't need to do anything with the bootloader unless you're flashing roms or you want x-recovery. flash 2.3.2, root with gingerbreak and then upgrade to 2.3.3 ota. as in here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115542
Thank you! Will give it a go in a minute and see how it goes!

Ok so I tried what u suggested and it works! BUT, it's only a temporary solution..... after I upgraded to 2.3.3 and did a hard reset, the phone was back to its original unrooted state.
Is there any way of permanently rooting it so that it remains even after a hard reset?
Also, how do I get the phone into fastboot mode?
Cheers.
Fastboot is disabled on "branded" phones (basically any phone from a carrier) regardless of SIM/network-lock status or debranding. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037874
Here in Germany Arcs from at least Telekom and Vodafone are unlockable. When they are just branded.
Didn't test it myself on my Arc that had a Telekom branding but read it in different forums.

Why do you need to make a hard reset?

Help me please. i have some questions on terms i am having a hard time to understand.
What does OTA means?
What does a bloatware means? Someone said that if i rooted my phone i can still update my phone as long as the bloatware is backed up?
I have a kernel version of 2.6.32.9-perf,and a build version of 3.0.1.A.0.145, are these version can be rooted or bootloader unlocked or do i still need to change or upgrade it to a newer one? how do i do it?
And what is a omnius and what is a TA backup?
I badly need somebody's help. To help me clear my mind on what to do on my phone. I promise to press the thanks button a single time on my computer and a million times to my heart.

Ota means "Over the Air" It's basically when an update gets pushed directly to your phone over WIFI.
bloatware is when SE and networks add there own apps ontop of the default android apps.
TA stands for trim area. It holds unique information dedicated to your device.
omnius is a software by the omnius team, it allows you to back up things like your TA and GDFS it also can unlock sony phones

Sim free is when you can use any sim with your phone, sim locked is when you can use only one network. Ok try this turn off your phone, plug the usb cable into your PC, hold the search button on your phone and plug the cable in your phone, if the led on the power button goes blue you can easly unlock bootloader.

No, if you use the official bootloader unlock method, you will not be able to ota update. Using ota will brick your phone. There is paid method of bootloader unlock though, with that method you keep DRM certs and ability to ota

No it's from users on here, they use a tool called setool. You have to connect the test point behind battery and setool can unlock bootloader, unlike the official method it's kind of an engineering unlock, what the sony repair centre would do if you bricked your phone, then they can relock and send it back with no issues
i used jinx13 http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4002805 to unlock mine. it was only £15 an took 5 mins, you should pm him
I've lost one day searching for ways to unlock the bootloader and until now none of them worked!

Yes, nothing appeared for me
What you do is -
After connecting the Testpoint/whatever your using, you should press start, control panel, then device manager, here will open all your pc devices, there will be a tab called other devices opened with a device called 'S1BOOT' or random letters, i cant recall exactly, anyway right click & select update driver software, here you will select manually & browse to your Omnious Driver folder & it should install, then start Omnious & follow the instructions to successfully unlock your bootloader

if u want try official sony instruction again u can use this drivers: http://www.mediafire.com/?1jqvtofgc13figr. Try install them like AwaisKhan said and it should works (this is how i did)
Thank you all, I'll try soon when I have some time
I had the same problems as both of you, this was the best thing that helped me figure it out.
taken from cetus90:
So Now. turn off phone take battery out wait 5 secs put it back in
2nd. hold back button and connect it to the pc while running the omnius *have it search for phone*
3rd. You will hear the sound that it didn't connect
4th. go to device mananger on your computer and youll see something that says S1 boot something something.
5th. right click and have it update drivers, point it to where the omnius drivers folder is
that should get it the right drivers hopefully.
if someone that knows better could correct me plz if its wrong.
Thanks to Blagus on gsmsecure forum for this
If the testpoint pin is not accessible when the battery is inserted (Play, Mini):
* Turn off the phone, remove battery. Do not return battery.
* Take something conductive. For example, tweezers are very good.
* Locate the testpoint - start unlock in Omnius and use the picture as reference. When you see the picture, abort unlock.
* Plug in the USB cable, while battery is removed.
* Use metal cover on SIM card slot as ground. Connect testpoint pin and ground, press power button, disconnect testpoint.
* Insert battery, and then disconnect USB cable.
* Start unlock again and plug in the USB cable, unlock will start
Eventually you might hear that sound again, just make sure you look at device manager and update/install drivers again.
This is the third time I am saying it in a different thread, use Pdanet for drivers. Install the latest version from their website and your driver problem is solved.

Hello everybody!
***Note: this is for the Xperia Arc S; I forgot to put the S in the subject ***
I have been reading and trying different things the last hours to get a different SIM-card working in my Arc S.
The SIM that was bought together with the phone is from carrier Proximus, Belgium.
Now I have two SIM-cards here from Germany that I want to use with the phone: one from BASE, and one from O2.
What happens is when I boot my phone, give in my PIN-code, it simply restarts. After that I can give my PIN again, but then it restarts again,... and so on.
What I did so far:
1. I rooted the phone with the DooMLoRD's Easy rooting toolkit v3.0.
2. I unblocked the Bootloader via the following method: Fast GSM Sony Ericsson SE Xperia Arc S Unlock Network Flashing Debrand.
I checked if it worked:
- Before BL unlock: S1 Boot version: 1241-3656 R9A029
- After BL unlock: S1 Boot version: 1241-3656 r9A021
--> its not a capital r anymore,...
But still I have the same problem as I explained in the beginning of my post.
Other specs you might need to help me:
- Phone Software Version: 1253-8238_4.0.2.A.0.42 GENERIC - user
- 2.3.4 Android version
- File System Version: WORLD-i_4.0.2.A.0.42
Another weird thing is, that if I go on the tab: Service Info --> SIM lock
--> all items have a 0 behind them, which I thought ment that they are not blocked,...
So hopefully somebody has some suggestions what I can try next,...
Thanks in advance, Pieter.
Rooting and bootloader unlocking will never remove the SIM lock.
To remove SIM lock you need either a code from telecom company or you need to pay somebody to use setools, it is a paid service as you need to use Sony servers to get unlock code.
Xda member jinx13 offers this service via remote contact see if he can help.
