[Q] ARHD Radio S-Off Question - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I already have ARHD 6.1.2 installed with ENG S-Off
But I was going to flash the new recommended radio,
(As is started with 5.1.x) so it was a different radio.....
Anyway, it recommends having Radio S-Off as well as ENG S-Off
But I don't have Radio S-Off,
Is it safe for me to run the radio S-Off tool even though I have already
installed a custom ROM? And then flash the new radio afterwards?

yes bro just go ahead it will be fine

Just tried the tool and I keep getting the "Unknown error, probably connection"
And I have tried the solutions listed in the thread to the s-off tool but it still
gives me that error, any idea's? Is it because I already have the custom rom installed?

if its suggesting connection then you must check everything properly
so if you have arhd 6.1.2 then you are rooted so thats ok next check that you have usb debugging mode enabled and that you are connecting to pc using "charge only mode" then use the tool by running it as adminstrator and make sure you are looking at the phone as you will have to give superuser rights you may be missing this part
also make sure htc sync is on your pc and that you phone is fully recognised by your pc and all drivers are installed
let us know how you get on

Yep, connecting in charge only, with debugging enabled. I am running with administrator rights.....And superuser does pop-up but it doesn't ask permission it just says it has automatically granted superuser permissions to the tool.
So it all goes well but then says its failed, which it has as I have checked the CID in the bootloader just incase it was giving a false negative! Also tried the suggestion of opening a cmd in the background and cd'ing into the tools folder and doing an adb shell before running the tool, that also didn't work!

hmmm....if you go into device manager on your pc does it show up as my htc under android devices? is all ok under device manager just to rule out and conflictions there

i think i found your solution try it out and see what you have to do when you downgraded you must flash that rom first once you are on that rom then you can s off after that s off remains forever unless you use the tool to remove it . then you can flash anything you want after that wether it be a kernel radio or rom

I'm at work now, but I will check when I get home, and let you know!

I flashed the rom mentioned so I was on a downgraded version, I ran the tool and it said done, but on the bootloader I still only have eng s-off and the cid is still my branded cid. Apparently this is because I have the wrong radio, As I must of flashed a new 1 the first time I flashed ARHD 5.1.X
Anyway the only reason I was trying to get Radio S-OFF was to flash a new radio, but as I seem to have already done it in the past, I guess it would be safe for me to flash a new one now?

Stupid me I wiped the internal memory and then did a master reset
All I get now is the HTC splash screen
Since I have no rom on the phone I cant flash via recovery
I never connected the phone in dev mode to the computer so adb drivers where never installed
fastboot stuff works but adb commands say device not found cant seem to get adb drivers
using windows 7 64bit
if i try to push a stock RUU via fastboot i get
FAILED (remote: (00000006))
i have over 30% battery
I tried everything I could under the following threads

Tried this but get no devices for adb commands
I guess its because adb drivers where not installed on my computer for this phone
Comes down to how do I instal ADB on my computer without use of the phone?

I put back stock recovery and relocked the bootloader
last rom on the phone was LeeDrOiD One Xtreme V6.3.0 based on Based on HTC_Europe_1.29.401.11 RUU
do i just run the exe?
Never mind found out from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660807
CID is HTC-Asia-SEA-WWE HTC__044
so downloaded RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_hTC_Asia_SEA_WWE_1.28.728.9_Radio
is that right?

Ya.. just run RUU. It should work as long as you have the right RUU for your device and HTC USB driver installed.
I checked my CID and it is HTC-Asia-SEA-WWE HTC__044
I downloaded RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_hTC_Asia_SEA_WWE_1.28 .728.9_Radio and ran the exe.
Everything went better then all my previous attempts but then it gives me an error
wrong device id
so I downloaded
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.11_Radio_1.1204.105.14_release_260491_signed.exe
which the last rom one the phone before this issue is based on and ran the ruu exe
with that ruu I get customer id error
My issue seems pretty much the same as in here
Please keep in mind any adb stuff says device not found
Seeing something similar in here but no go
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649737&page=2
Getting error 131 customer id error
Any other ideas?
It was such a nice phone while it worked for 20min
Finally fixed it. Had to randomly try different RUU files lol until I found the right one

as far as I know the unlock method of htc dev doesn't give you s-off (which seems to be confirmed by yourself saying you're still s-on). S-on means "security on" what in other words means you won't be able to flash a custom recovery (if I'm not mistaken here).
You said that you have read every thread here about this - so you should know as it's mentioned all over this forum (that htc dev isn't the best method...). For how - and if - you still could get there I''m not too sure but you probably need to do an RUU, downgrade etc to do the suggested method (of the two corresponding threads here) instead of the htc dev thing.
But as I said: I_m not sure if you still can - probably someone has experience here?

No, no. He will be able to flash a custom recovery if he unlocked it using HTCDev, he won't, however, be able to modify the internal storage while the phone is booted.

ah, yes, thx for clearifying - so you can't get control over the partitions or what does it mean?
The htc dev method gives a different output to revo or alpha, if it says s-on with unlocked somewhere then fastboot is the only method that will work for flashing a custom recovery and although some things like the revovery partition are unlocked for flashing, some important things like radio aren't hence the s still being on........
I presume if it says s-on and locked then yes you have probably gone wrong somewhere and locked it again.
Theres not many people on here that have used the htc dev unlock tool i don't think so support might be a bit thin as we don't know much about it, try running through the htc dev unlock method again to hopefully get it unlocked again and then flash cwm by the fastboot method.
If it says locked then i can't think of any other way, downgrading to hboot 1.01.0001in order to use revolutionary may work but i'm not sure if you can or not as i have personally never done it.

i already tried buzz downgrade a long ago.i used the method as it is told on the website..:good:
but don't know why it doesn't work properly i have no idea why this don't work either. i read number of threats regarding it and i tried to google
with the errors that came with buzz downgrade. something just goes wrong with it in the first step but it just doesn't get completed. the phone does not respond when i ran the buzz downgade utility even after installing the htc driver from the buzz downgrade itself (don't remember exactly that it is explained over the internet). i did clearly everything whatever is written in the threats about how to use the buzz downgrade but in vain i stopped it trying.
i still have the setup of buzz downgrade in my laptop.:silly:
but why it doesn't work i don't know..and you know what i read that threat too in the past.
may be it is the problem of the bootloader that it is locked..

During your procedure, did you ever achieve the S-OFF ?
You need to downgrade from 1.02.0000 to 1.01.0001 to use Revolutionary.
Try this guide.
If you want revolutionary will automatically download the recovery and install it on your phone.
After gaining S-OFF if you can't get Unrevoked working in order to gain root.
Use this or try SuperOneClick.
Good luck:good:
Try the link in my Sig, it should help. First, I recommend running an RUU and relocking your bootloader using fastboot oem lock.
Then try the debranding and rooting guide in the Sig.

this is the thing i already tried a long ago. when the wildfire was updated to 2.2 version of android ,it changed into "wildfire (buzz) 2.2.1, with HBOOT 1.01.0002"..now as the threats i read there in the past, i can't run the revolutionary or any other method. because the htc has applied some sort of lock on the new bootloader. revolutionary gave some error which i don't remember as per the threats. in the mean time nobody able to find the solution of this new 1.01.0002 bootloader unlocking. then i that time i heard of htc dev website and in that time i used that website to unlock my bootloader and alas it got unlocked and my bootloader has been changed to 1.02.000.. but now i again find that my bootloader is locked may be.. how i don;t know about that.. i tried to run that method of buzz downgrade number of times thoroughly again and again as if u read in the thread above it give some sort of error and does't do anything for me. so i asked what else i do then this , again do i need go to htc dev website to unlock bootloader ??

I never tried htcdev method so i have no idea about that. You should probably try their method once again,if that doesn't work, use the Gold card tool to downgrade the HBOOT using this guide.
Code:
Step 1: run step1.bat from the package. This will downgrade your MISC partition to allow for the RUU downgrade.
At the end, GoldCardTool will start up, to allow you to create a goldcard which you will need before starting Step 2
Step 2: run step2.bat from the package. This will downgrade your ROM version to HTC WWE Froyo for Wildfire (unbranded).
If you get a Customer ID error while doing this, your goldcard is not working!
Create a new goldcard and re-run step2
or follow usaff22's guide.

You didn’t answer me,What is the information on your HBOOT screen?
Power off the phone and ensure the phone is completely off. Then hold POWER + VOL-DOWN buttons together until the white HBOOT screen appears. Tell us your HBOOT info.
You are getting Customer ID error,It’s a bad Goldcard. You will have to create a new Goldcard.
>Connect it to your computer using an SD Adapter and format the card to FAT32 file system once again.

>Follow this guide to create the Goldcard. It’s a bit more detailed.
Before doing anything download CCleaner and TFC and run them.TFC will ask you to reboot.Reboot the PC.
Now make the Goldcard.Good luck.

not really clear to me also - if I got him right he initially has been on 1.01.0002 (because of the Android update). Because there hasn't been a possibility by revolutionary yet at that time and for that bootloader he unlocked it at the htcdev site what made it 1.02.000.
But I'm a bit confused, too, so a detailed information of the fastboot screen would really help (or a pic).

After using HTC dev unlock tool your HBOOT 1.01.0002 got changed to 1.02.000 while Bootloader is still locked.

[Q] Used AAHK. In Hboot with S-ON. What now?

Ok, here's the gist. Went to root a friends phone. Used AAHK as I had on mine. It needed to downgrade (as it had done previously with mine). After downgrading it wouldn't boot. Just hung on HTC boot screen. Waited 10+ mins...nothing. Tried a few times...nothing. I can get into Hboot using power/volume but have no idea what to do from here as I can't boot into a ROM so the laptop/aahk can see it. I've tried bootloader....nothing happens. Tried Factory reset...nothing happens...just goes back to HTC boot screen. Can any kind person help out a noob in distress here. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.:good:

I can get into Hboot using power/volume but have no idea what to do from here as I can't boot into a ROM so the laptop/aahk can see it. I've tried bootloader....nothing happens. Tried Factory reset...nothing happens...just goes back to HTC boot screen. Can any kind person help out a noob in distress here. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.:good:

You don't need to boot into a ROM to do stuff. You're fine as long as you can reach the bootloader. Read the Noob Starter Guide by Glevitan for more info. Find it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30007264&postcount=2

If you need to know what you need to read.. You already have a downgraded hboot.. you need to S-OFF it and flash a custom recovery now. You can read on how to do that from the guide I mentioned.

Thanks for the response. I have quickly read through the guide but am slightly confused to say the least. I can't find how to get S-Off from here, other than through aahk. Bootloader does nothing when selected, and recovery just takes me back to the htc boot screen. I'm stuck here. Could you please point me to the right (next) step (S-off). I have read the guide, but it doesn't say how to do it from Hboot.
For example, the guide states this :-
Unlocking the bootloader with HTCDEV tool will allow you to flash CWM recovery and install
custom roms for ACE models and not ported roms, meaning that roms ported from other devices
such as Sensation or Sensation XL will not be successfully be flashed.
..which is all well and good. Ok, I have an unlocked bootloader so I can install CWM, but HOW?
Can you post the text appearing on top of your bootloader here?
Depending on that you might need to either flash a recovery or fix your bootloader.

Of course. Thanks again, as it's driving me crazy trying to find how to S-off and install CWM from here.

Alright. You used AAHK right? Did you read the guide and follow all the steps? I'll suggest to use the "Fixing your messed bootloader" section of the guide I mentioned previously and then run the AAHK again.

Ok this is what it says.....
Hboot fix
md5sum hboot.nb0
adb push hboot.nb0 /data/local/tmp/
adb push gfree /data/local/tmp/
adb push psneuter /data/local/tmp/
adb shell chmod 0755 /data/local/tmp/gfree
adb shell chmod 0755 /data/local/tmp/psneuter
adb shell /data/local/tmp/psneuter
adb shell /data/local/tmp/gfree -f
adb shell
dd if=/data/local/tmp/hboot.nb0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 of=/data/local/tmp/hboot.test
sync
exit
adb pull /data/local/tmp/hboot.test
md5sum hboot.test
All md5sums should be 2a28dcd53ea26504be9a86572a348aa1
adb reboot
I did the first few steps, (I've removed the links as it won't let me post them here) and got the file into C ok with the files from the hack kit. When I start ADB (via the Start Here command) and I type in the commands above, it says "Device not found". I have tried to follow the link that it states to read for people new to ADB, but it takes me to a massive page of links and I have no idea where to start. Thanks for your help up to now, it really is appreciated, and I fear I'm in above my neck here, and am now a walking advert for why people like me shouldn't go down this route. When I did my phone, it really wasn't a problem and the whole AADK process went fine. I have been flashing custom roms on my phone for months without a single problem, and it's only when my friend/colleague saw me running JellyTime 17.2 that he wanted it too. Now I fear I'm stuck!

Calm down. It's all solvable. And we can get it back working.
For adb to work you need to connect your device and let it go into bootloop (switch it on and let it stay as it is).
Once it goes into that state, try typing "adb devices" it should show a list of devices attached, you should see your phone in there. Once your phone is recognized, the adb commands should work.
Also, do you have HTC Sync installed?

Kicking myself for realising that HTC sync WAS installed. Have uninstalled, wiped drivers, and reinstalled drivers from here. Rebooted laptop. Still the same. Ok, my ADB console I type in adb devices and it says List of devices attached and just shows the same command prompt line underneath (i.e C:\Windows\system32> so I don't think it's seeing the device.
When you say "Let it go into bootloop", all I have have done is turned it on and it goes to the HTC screen, I hope this is right. Windows see's the phone ok. When I plug it in it sees it as "USB mass device installed". Is this the problem?

Did you enable USB Debugging on the stock ROM before you started AAHK? If not then thats the reason probably why ADB is not working right now.
Anyway, what I'll suggest you to do right now is to boot into the bootloader and run an RUU.
Get an appropriate RUU from here : http://www.filefactory.com/f/efa28fefafc4af9c/
Appropriate means your region, WWE is the worldwide edition and mostly safe for all devices. Download the RUU, connect your phone(in the bootloader mode) and run the .exe from the computer. Follow the on-screen instructions then. The phone should return to stock after the complete setup has run and you can try the AAHK again.
The other method is to unlock your bootloader via the HTCDEV method and flash a recovery and then flash a rooted ROM. The HTCDEV method is not good one for various reasons but it might prove easier.
Go to www.htcdev.com for using that method for bootloader unlock.

No worries.
There might be also a way to S-OFF from the bootloader and fastboot and I think Glevitan might help you with that. But since he's not around at the moment and you're kinda worried I'll say the RUU way is the best option as of now.

I downloaded the RUU overnight as it took a few hours. I've just ran it and even though I selected the Orange UK one from that list, it started the process and then said it was the wrong RUU and to please download the correct one. I'm now downloading a WWE one to try. There's a few different ones so here's hoping!

[Q] I have a problem.

So I have a problem. I rooted and unlocked my bootloader just fine on my T-Mobile HTC One M8. While installing insert coin to prep for s-off, I was wiping my data and accidentally deleted my operating system (oops). So I followed a tutorial and tried using firewater and I got the "whelp, no amount of retrying will make this work on your device" message. I want to use Sunshine now, but I can't because sunshine only works with stock sense, which I accidentally deleted. I have looked and looked online and the only presumable way of getting the operating system back is through an RUU which I can't do because I'm not S-Off. I can't get S-Off because I don't have sense, and I can't get sense because I'm not S-Off. Is there just a regular ROM I could use to flash sense just temporarily while I get sunshine? My whole goal of this was to make my regular M8 a google play edition, as I prefer stock android.

Who says you need to be S-OFF to run a RUU If there is an RUU available for your device then run it. Just make sure you lock the bootloader before you do.
You could also just flash a ROM(any rom) onto your device or restore a backup from the collection of stock backups thread(In general section).

Also I tried downloading a stock sense rom and when I flashed it, my phone turned on and the message "unfortunately, phone has stopped" just kept coming up over and over. Do I need to find a Rom specific to T-mobile and/or my device version?

To lock bootloader, shut down device. Hold Power button + Volume down to boot into bootloader. Connect Phone to PC. Open command prompt in adb folder. Type
Code:
fastboot devices
To check if the device gets picked up, Next type:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
This will lock bootloader. Then you can run the RUU.exe as administrator on your PC and begin restoring your device back to stock.
Why do you need to lock it? I'm not entirely sure Perhaps it's just part of the verification the RUU needs in order to make changes to the device, kinda like you need to be stock to do OTA. Maybe it just has something to do with the oem method of recovering/restoring the device, I don't know mate, sorry.
Perhaps someone with a bit more expertise can answer that one for you, I only know that it needs to be locked if you're S-ON.

You'll need to be S-OFF in order to convert to the GPE as it makes changes to the partition sizes on the device. If I recall correctly it was Graffixnyc that made a thread about that and I'm almost sure he mentioned in that very thread that you need to be S-OFF.
First restore your phone to working condition, then get S-OFF then you can follow the guide to convert your device to GPE.

Fastboot knowledge

Just make sure you download the correct version that corresponds to the version your device is.
If you need earlier or other version it's in here: [Recovery] [RUU 2.22.531.5] [TWRP Nandroid Backups] [Radio IMGs][ OTA 2.22.531.6]
Once that is done you can just right click on the exe file, select run as administrator and follow the onscreen wizard to restore the device back to stock.

Hey there!
So I restored my phone and it worked, so I s-offed my phone using Sunshine (because like I said before firewater didn't work for me), and I downloaded the GPE RUU but for some reason when I type adb reboot bootloader into cmd it says error:device not found. When I plug my phone in, it makes the noise that signals that a device has been plugged in, but it doesn't show it in the file explorer. Any ideas?

What is your provider ? Is it an AT&T, Tmobile, etc phone ?
---------- Post added at 01:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:33 AM ----------
I really could not tell you what to do with a device that is S-ON. When I first got my device the first thing I did was S-OFF, which makes it easier for me to fix my phone if something goes wrong, and also it's easier for me to fastboot flash different firmwares and change CID's/MID's. AFAIK, you can not do much with a phone that is S-ON other than gain root, but I could be wrong. There use to be two methods to gain S-OFF, but one method has been discontinued (firewater, or something like that is no longer used) and another method that cost $25, but I have forgotten the name of such method. With your phone currently not being operational, I have no idea if you would even be able to get your phone to a point to S-OFF. I do recall seeing that you said something about how you couldn't access Google, and not being able to do such pretty much makes the phone useless. Perhaps, if the phone turns on you could get onto a wifi connection and find that method ($25 S-off method), and you could gain S-Off from there. I just spent 10 minutes trying to find you some links, and maybe they will work for you....

Further, s-off is not required to run an RUU (another common misconception, that I don't know where people get); unless you are trying to "break the rules" and either run an older RUU ("downgrade") or run another carrier's RUU.

You have a EU WWE device running a very old software version.
What you can do .. update to the latest with a RUU
RUU will wipe everything on your phone including internal storage so backup all your important files like photos, musics & etc to PC.
Download RUU 4.16.401.10 from here : http://androidruu.com/?developer=M8
Put your device on bootloader/fastboot mode then relock bootloader with command
fastboot oem lock
Right click RUU and select run as administrator and follow the RUU instructions
To run a RUU .. you need USB2.0 and latest HTC USB driver installed. If not sure, download HTC Sync Manager - http://www.htc.com/us/support/software/htc-sync-manager.aspx
install it as it will install the latest HTC USB driver then uninstall the HTC Sync Manager but leave the driver.

install it as it will install the latest HTC USB driver then uninstall the HTC Sync Manager but leave the driver.

RUU_M8_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_HTC_Europe_4.16.401.10_Radio_1.25.214500021.06G_20.68.4196t.01_F_release_417003_signed.exe

Alright I downloaded the file...
Installed HTC Sync Manager
Uninstalled I but kept the HTC Driver Installer
I ran fastboot oem locked
After I did that the phone only boots in fastboot.
I tried to run RUU but it seem to be running in an infinite loop... Stuck at "Verifying Information on your Android Phone. Please wait..."
Well you are a superhero!!!! Thanks for helping
Took me a while to figure out everything... How to do all the commands... Install what I needed find the conflicts on my computer with ADB but finally got everything to work 100%
Thanks a WHOLE freakin' lot
Great :good:
Before you unlock it again in case you feel like modding it further, do that OTA checking first.
There should be OTA to 4 .16.401.13
Settings -- about -- software update.

Never found a solution and I'm not the one that modded it and my friend lives 6 hours away from my (by plane) hahahaha so there was no chance he can help me!!
