hey guys!
my desire is shutting down when it has about 10% battery left.
i charge my phone, when its on, at 90% the led turnes from charging to fully charged.
when its off, it is charging to 100% without any problem.
it makes no difference, next time still shutting down at 10%.
i tried to calibrate the phone, nothing happens
what can i do to solve the problem?

I guess you did nothing wrong, it's a general problem of GB ROMs. But hey.. at least you know when to plug it in and you won't be surprised by a sudden shutdown.

For Sense kernels maybe.
Op, define 'calibration'?

Hi all, after some info if possible. It's not a major problem I have, only just noticed it after 4 months.
I'm running CM6.1.3 and CWM, which work brilliantly. The problem I have come across is not being able to charge the phone once I have turned it off without it starting up and going into CWM. Now this isn't a huge problem as I very rarely turn the phone off, but I wanted to charge the battery last night with it off after getting a full charge when on but can't as once it goes into CWM it will stop charging.
Anyone got any ideas how I stop it going into the recovery when I plug it in?
Cheers

It's the CWM.

There is no option for fastboot in CM as far as I can see. If its a common problem with no solution then I will wait, like I said it isn't a huge problem, just wondering if it was an easy fix I hadn't seen.
Cheers everyone for the replies.

Nothing you can do unfortunately. I'm sure there will be a work around eventually.
There is only one work around for now. Remove ClockworkMod Recovery.
Your DHD when stock, and switched off, would power up into a state of HTC Recovery just to display the little orange or green charging LED, when connected to a charger.
Now since we all replaced HTC Recovery with that of ClockworkMod Recovery, plugging in the charger will start ClockworkMod Recovery.
Sadly there is nothing else we can do.
still no solutions???
Reflash back to the stock recovery.
If I flash the stock recovery and then flash cwm latest 2.x for Desire HD, will it solve the problem?
My problem starts when I have the charger plug in and use ROM manager to reboot into recovery to wipe the batt stats, before that, it was ok.
This is a good thing if you ever encounter bootloops. You just connect to charger and reflash everything. I consider this a feature
Sent from a random phone.
not a good feature for me though ...
my initial intention is to recalibrate my battery.
i'm having trouble draining my battery yesterday before this happening
today, i'm having problem stopping the drain.
i charge till green led and the moment i wipe battery stats and boot up, it's 99%.
and it's going down 1% everytime i check it
and i can't turn off the phone to charge now.

Booting your DHD requires more power than the charger supplies, ergo if you boot up the battery is never going to be at 100%. The fact that CWM comes on when the phone is turned off and plugged in is irrelevant, the reason you charge with it turned off is to ensure it is 100% charged before you wipe battery stats, as the phone charges in cwm just charge to 100% then use the option to wipe battery stats. For those cynics who don't believe that the phone charges in cwm get QtADB and you can monitor the phone stats in cwm and watch it charge, simples!
Hello All
Im powering down my phone at night (quick boot enabled) & when i wake up in the morning the battery is completely drained. There is normally at least half a charge left before i power down.
This has only just happened the past few days. The phone is around 2 months old.
Any ideas ? Has my battery become faulty ? Should i return the phone ?
Thanks.
Sounds like a hardware fault probably the battery. How did you charge the phone normally?
Try taking the battery out, see if it loses charge after same amount of time.

I agree with sengork.
Powerdown should use only a few microamps.

How i charge my phone varies - sometimes i will charge via the mains with either the phone still on or off at night, sometimes with the phone on via usb. I've never had a problem with regards to charging the battery.
I always turn the phone off at night (with quick boot enabled as i said) but the past 2 days, with the battery at least half full, the battery has completely drained by the morning.
Hi,
Try with and without fast boot and see if you yield any different results, I would tend to leave fast boot off if your leaving it off for a prolonged amount of time as the phone doesn't completely shut down.
Also there could be an app draining it too, so u could get autostarts and kill any unwanted apps from starting up when certain criteria are met, like when you switch your screen off, some apps are activated, i know kakao chat does that, even if it doesn't help the prob it's still a good app to have to kill apps from starting when you don't want them.
Let us know how u get on.
PS: Are you using an overvolted kernel ? Maybe knock it down to stock to see if that helps, just to test and then knock it back up when you know what the problem is.
This happened to me on my old phone. Turned out to be a problem with a torn USB cable
Well, took the battery out last night before bed with half power remaining & this morning...re inserted battery & no change at all - so i guess the battery is not faulty.
I am planning on turning off fast boot tonight, powering down the phone & see'ing what sort of state the battery is in tomorrow morning.
Thanks all for the replies so far.

I was having almost the exact same problem. Phone seemed to drain about 30 - 40 % overnight ( with phone off - fastboot on ).
Anyway I turned off Fastboot and switched off the phone and went to bed last night with about 20% battery and woke up this morning and still had 20%.
I'm not sure how Fastboot is supposed to work but turning it off seems to have solved the problem. It's not really a big loss anyway.
Thanks.
Interesting thread.
What are the benefits of fastboot anyway?
I never had it on my Hero and haven't tired it on my DHD as I've been too busy flashing ROMs since I got it!
Where can I switch of fast boot? I'm on stock rom 1.72. Searched my phone but no luck in finding it...

Other than stating the obvious ( i.e. the phone boots faster ) I don't think there is any other advantage. I think it is sort of similar to putting your computer ( if you are using Windows ) into Hibernate rather than shutting down completely.
Anyway there obviously was some sort of conflict with another app as a friend ( and many other users I'm sure ) with a Desire HD uses Fastboot without any overnight battery drain. Anyway I can live without it ( didn't have it on my last phone - a Motorola Milestone ).
It is odd that the battery drained more when the phone was off overnight than it would have done being left on overnight ( just with the screen off doing nothing ).
Anyway as I said - no big deal - and I certainly can't be bothered to uninstall each app one by one until I find the one responsable.
Cheers.
Haha, yeah a faster boot time was the obvious one but I was wondering if that was all.
I have it unticked anyway, and very rarely ever turn my phone off.
Anyway, I hope you manage to fix your problem

Thanks - as I said above turning off Fastboot seems to have fixed the issue for me. I'm too lazy (!) to find out what about leaving Fastboot on caused the battery drain but as it is a feature I can live without I'll just live with the mystery!!
Cheers.
I recently was experiencing my phone auto booting. When i take out the battery and place it back in the phone it automatically restarts without me pressing the power button... this happens also when i use the power button to shut down. The only time it doesnt reboot is when i have the charger plugged in. I have no idea why this is happening, i wiped and reflashed my rom (mexdroidmod, its awesome) and it continued. I then rewiped and flashed osimood and the autobooting was still there... help?

it might have to do with timing. if u take ur battery out and put right back in mine reboots but if i leave it out for more than 5 sec it stays off. idk bout power button.

I have the exact same problem. I just realized yesterday. It's worth investigating.
Sounds like it might be a hardware issue. Power button might be broken. Maybe? Now I've I have read you posts again I'm not sure if it is or not.
I also have this problem, just found it out.
When I power off the phone it will shut down, and then boot automatic.
hmm interesting i thought it was only me and noone else becuase no other person posted this issue ever lol think i should make a poll in the general section for people to try this since many people may have it without knowing...
I am not sure about the power button... it still wakes the phone up no problem.
ill probably make the poll this.

as posted by edkeys in cm7 nightly thread, drain your battery to 0% and let the device turn itself off completly dead, plug into charger and let it charge ~4 hours or until your light turns green. unplug charger, phone will boot, load up your rom, power down, AND IT STAYS OFF!

It doesn't work, phone turns itself off.
Plug into charger and the phone boots...
It might take a few tries. I had to drain the battery 3 times and then let it fully charge for about 4-6 hours. On the third time trying it, it finally shuts down without auto rebooting.

Battery charge indicator 2.3.5 upgrade problem
Hello everyone. This is my first time come to xda-developers form.I'm from china.
Yesterday I update my wildfire S(China mainland Edition)to 2.3.5+Sense3.0 lockscreen(Taiwan Edition)'s ROM.
I charge my bbttery yesterday evening.I turn off my phone.
When charge compalate.I found that the LED light didn't change green. It was still orange.
Why?How to solve it?
PS:Maybe my post have some Grammar problem。I hope that you can Bear with it.
Try factory reset see if it helps.
Backup important information and personal stuff first.
Just try the procedure of taking the battery out, sim card, micro sd etc etc and see if that works...
are you using the stock battery?
i used to notice with my (so called) extended battery 2430mah Gold battery, the software would say it was 100% charge, but it stayed orange for around another hour or two, then eventually turned green...i assume this is because the phone software had misjudged the charge level...so although it THOUGHT it was 100% full, it was actually still charging?
so if you have changed the battery at all, leave it charging for a bit longer (only an hour or so) and see if it goes out?
should be safe, as the batteries themselves usually have an auto shut off safety to stop them from being over-charged.
I get the exact same on ALL custom ROMs, never on Stock though, would love a fix!

Since I unlocked my phone's bootloader, rooted and installed custom recovery I have the same problem too.
If I charge the battery with the phone turned on, the led turns green at 100% and everything is fine.
If I charge the battery with the phone off, the led stays orange forever even when I disconnect the charger. Then I have to remove the battery and insert it again so that the led turns off. If I wait enough time charging the battery reaches 100%.
This is a strange sympton that only started with the rooting/recovery flashing process.
Oh and BTW the way, I use stock battery but now I'm waiting for the arrival of two batteries I ordered on eBay.
One is a Li-Ion 1500 mAh and the other a Li-Polymer 2430 mAh.
Will see if the same happens when they arrive but I'm almost 100% sure this has something to do with the bootloader unlocking process.
Does anybody know how to fix this? I would really appreciate it.

Same as, pain in the arse!
Great news! At least on my phone this problem is gone.
You wonder how? Simply by updating recovery to v5.0.2.8 from ROM Manager.
I almost didn't notice it it but a few hours ago I plugged my phone to the charger while still on. After finishing my work I turned it off (no fastboot).
In the meanwhile I needed to use my phone far from the wall plug and disconnected the usb charger cable.
My gesture was to immediately remove back cover to remove the battery but fortunately I noticed the orange led went off.
So I decided to plug it again and wait for the charge to complete and for the green led. It did!
So run to the Market, download ROM Manager and let it update your recovery to the latest version.
I hope this annoying pest won't bother you no more.

Not what the problem was or related to, it was an outdated ROM manager app that caused it...
I have an unusual charging problem.
Many of time but not always, i put my phone to charge and it looks like charging. after some time it says that the power i use is less than i charge so my battery goes down. Most of the time i wake up the morning and it is close. The strange is that some times, before it close i do a restart and the battery is much more up% !!!!!! and other times is still down after restart.
I bought new battery and still nothing.
I tried million restart, hard reset, battery calibration, other chargers and still nothing. It also appears on deferent version of roms. Now i have ViperX.
I cant understand why it happens. I have this problem for months... Any idea?

I have already done. the same problem... but can't understand why looks like doesn't charge and after restart is charched or other times don't. before an hour had to shut down for 5 minutes to start charging!!!!
I have really confused what is happening.
I also experience a simillar problem, and sometimes my phone reboots automatically while charging for no reason. Right now i am using a new charger, and looking for a diff rom other than viperX in the hope that it will solve the problem.

Same problem here since months ago!!!
Sometimes when I open GSam Battery Monitor to check the charge speed it shows me about (-400ma to -550ma) which means it's not charging at all and sometimes it shows me (400ma - 550ma) which means it's charging well (-400ma usage + 1000ma charging = +600ma).
And after trying with another charger (not original one) the charging is good at about +200ma, and USB charging is also about +200ma with Fast Charge enabled.
But, can someone try the charger with another phone brand like Samsung and test the charging speed with GSam Battery Monitor for 2-3 complete charges and compare the speed with his original charger (I mean Samsung's Charger), coz I tried with my wife's device (SGSII) but GSam didn't show me the charging speed! and it was working well with her device.
Could be this something related to HTC Kernel?
Could everyone with\without charging problem tell us what Kernel\ROM he is on?
