[Q] Upgrading SD Card - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking to upgrade my SD card to a 32GB one. Is it as simple as to copy everything to computer > transfer data onto new SD card > put in new card in phone and boot?
Do I need to do anything else if I'm rooted, running on EXT4 and one a custom ROM? Is formatting the card required?

It is always best to format the card in your phone first then restore the data. It resolves some compatibility issues this way.

Couldn't Find Android Market and Change SD Card

Hi guys.
I just bought a new Micro SD Card Class 6 for my desire and i want to replace my old sd card with the new one.
Based on Leedroid FAQ, before i could replace the sd card, i have to reformat the new one and create partition through rom manager.
The problem is, after i put my new sd card to my phone, i couldn't access android market for unknown reason therefore i couldn't install rom manager. How to fix this problem? Is there another way to create partition on new sd card so i can restore my nandroid backup?
If you get Download starting... and nothing else, log in to gmail/gtalk and change your status. Weird, but it helps.

[Q] New SD card...

Hey all,
I have a new 32 gb micro sd for my G2. I have a couple of questions.
1. do I have to unmount the original 8 gb card prior to taking it out?
2. What are the ramifications if I don't unmount it?
3. do I have to format the new card after it's in the phone?
4. I have unchecked all the apps so that none are storing on the SD card. Is there a way to move the remaining data from the SD card to the phone?
5. Is it possible to "Clone" the data from the current SD card to the new one?
Thx

1. No need to unmount, since you'll need to remove the battery anyway to insert the new card.
2. Nothing
3. Would be best
4. Copy and paste contents to new card
5. See 4
Hey A&D
Thx for the quick reply ...
So can I Simply plug the phone into the computer, copy everything that shows up under the directory for the phone to th computer ...then copy it all back to the new SD card once I install it in the phone?
Also, when the phone is plugged into the computer and shows up as storage am I only seeing data on the SD card or is it showing data on the internal memory as well?
Thx
Mark

Yes, that should work. If you have any apps installed to the SD card through Applications setting, I'd move them back to phone memory before you make the switch. They are stored in the .android_secure folder. Also you might want to format your new SD to FAT32 on your PC before moving your data back. But sounds like you're on the right track.
And you should not be seeing anything from internal memory while the SD is mounted.

[Q] Unable to install Roms after Changing SD Card

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone would be as kind to help me with a problem I am having with my phone or at least point me in the right direction. I currently have a rooted EVO 4G. Its one of the first generation EVO's and its been rooted from Android version 2.2. I have never had a problem with using any Roms before, but I recently lost my original SD card, (The card I initially used to root my phone) and for some reason unknown to me, the alternate card that I now use, does not allow me to install new Roms. In fact, every time I try to install a Rom with this alternate card, the instalation gets aborted, the exact quotes are:
E:can't open /sdcard/MIUI.us_supersonic_1.12.2_Eng_Deo_zipA_signed_naro k.zip(bad)
Installation aborted.
The thing is, when I had my original card (8GB), if I wanted to use my alternate card (32GB) I would flash a Rom using the original card, and after flashing, use the 32GB card for the storage space. So I am assuming this it is not really a phone problem, just maybe something that I need to do or download to my alternate SD card (32GB).
One more thing, I was recently able to install a HTC EVO Sense Rom using the alternate card (32GB) Unfortunately, I am not able to install any ASOP Roms on this card.
Thank You in advance.
Did you try formatting the sd card? Also, it's possible the card is just bad too.

When I first purchased the card, I initially partitioned the card using Rom Manger, but I don't think that I have specifically formatted the card. Is there a formatting instruction page that you can point me to, or do you have instructions of how I should go about formatting my SD Card?
You can either format the SD card while in recovery or when on windows. Just format it then throw roms back on the SD card then wipe wipe wipe and flash away.

Changing SD Card that was Partitioned.

I am about to change out my SD card. I just upgraded from the stock 8gb card which came with my EVO that I had partitioned which I did through ROM Manager to a brand new 16gb Class 10 SDcard
1) Is it also as simple as copying and pasting from my old SD card contents to the new one and boot it back up?
2) Would this delete the old ROM and stock ROM off of my SD card?
3) I also wanted to know if I needed to partition this new card as well and if so, at what point do I do that?
I know this is probably really easy to answer for most of you but I am new to flashing ROMS which is why I wanted to get a bigger and faster card! Thanks!

Are you using windows or do you have access to linux?
Copy everything on your SD Card to your computer. Put the new SD card in the phone, go to recovery, partition, then copy everything back to the new SD Card, reboot.
You don't have to do anything else
Thank you HipKat as I was just going ot do this as well..
I am using Windows. I ended up just partitioning FAT32 for about 14gb then ext2 for 1gb & ext3 for 1gb. I copied everything over and did a Nandroid backup.
Everything works great but I think I might be having some issues with Titanium Backup.
I am having troubles with FCs each time I try to flash back to the Nocturnal ROM I was using.. I wipe the dalvik cache as well as wipe data/factory reset each time and wipe the partitioned cache before flashing. I must be missing something.

I never wipe anything when I'm just going back and forth from one nandroid to another.
So do you recommend not even wiping the dalvik cache?

Wiping is always good. And I'm not sure having an ext2 and ext3 partition is a good idea, but I could be wrong.

[Q] New Sd Card swap questions

My question is: If my current (stock) sd card is partitioned, do I need to partition my new sd card in AmonRa before transferring the files over?
Also, what other tips/tricks might be of use when replacing an sd card?
TIA
Jake
back up apps via TB or similar program, reboot into recovery, make a backup, turn on Ms toggle, copy contents of SD card to PC,turn off Ms toggle, turn off phone, switch SD cards, boot phone holding volume down+power, select recovery, create new partition with your choice of settings and ext upgrade, turn on Ms toggle, transfer contents from PC, turn off Ms toggle, run dta2sd if need be, reboot phone, restore apps if need be. I think I got everything there.
