I've posted the how-to of rom cooking on this thread, I hope it'll help the newbie to start their cooking easier.
The how-to is written based on my Hero, so I think all you may like it.
Cheers.
Have looked before and figured I should leave it to those that know.

hi
I tried looking around and really couldnt find any information for n00bs to help them cook there own roms.
could someone please advise me where this information is available or if someone can do a breif guide on what to do and how?
dont meen to ask TOO much but its really been buggin me.
Your pretty much going to have to read and search...
I have been trying to make my own for awhile and no luck until a couple nights ago I finally got something "cooking".
I found I ended up using two or three different programs to cook with since they all seem to do a little different.
Sorry I can't personally be of more help but you are going to have to search and read since no one will probably take the time to make it "super easy".
Bhups,
Start with the wiki. There are now a number of ROM kitchens that make cooking "relatively easy" to where we were a few months ago.
My suggestion would be to find the threads in the Development & Hacking forum and simply read through them to build up your knowledge base. This will take some time so be prepared.

Ummm ... you asked this very same question in this thread, and were given an answer (by me)
Why start a new thread with this, instead of reading answers to your last post on the issue?

Search the Wizard thread for Faria's Kitchen, it has lots of information about cooking a ROM. Just remember that most of things might be the same for Hermes, but you cant put a wizard ROM on hermes and vice versa. Good luck, keep searching and reading. Follow the link in my signature as needed.
cheers all...
pvs - i'm sorry, I think I missed that thread.
Been so fustrated tring to find places for tutorials I forgot what I posted where.
I thougt someone may have a dummies way of cookin roms ready so they can post it as a reply on a new topic and it can be eaiser for others to find this solution.
It obviously now seems like there is ALOT of reading to do on this, and in multiple places.
okidoki peeps..
me off to it.
Thanks again to all!
I've searched the forums on how to develop a working theme for the G1 but I couldn't find a thread explaining on how to get started. From what I understand you first need the Android source. Can anyone provide a basic, or even detailed explanation on where to start? Thanks in advance.
Just wait... there will be a tutorial coming out from what I hear
I have just posted a tutorial here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466586
It is not finished but should guide you along quite nicely

hi,you can go here for example.
download this great kitchen (there are also others as good as this one,but it's my favorite one) there's a guide inside it.
you can start reading this one for basic infos. you can find almost everything you need searching into the forums!
have fun cooking your own rom
Hi,
maybe this is a familiar question for you all, but for me it's not, because I haven't found How-To's guide in this forum yet.
So I ask you: where can I start from?
I really want to "create" a ROM that's personal for my daily use, but is it a hard operation? I need some programming skills? I hope not... XD
Thanks in advance guys!!
you can start with the easier way by downloading a preset kitchen(set of tools which help you to build ROM) for diamond
currently you can download etoys kitchen or gen y kitchen
Ok, I already knew this... But is still so "simple" and no needs to edit for example XML files?
what exactly do you want to do?
the difficulty would depend on that
take a look here for some general stuff

There should be a tutorial section where the basics, precautions, techniques, tricks and tools for development are thought so that there will be more developments improvements and ideas. wsas searching for this tooo
i would love to see a link for this as well
Develop their own Rom. who can helb me
I was looking for a rest for my forum, but could not find until now
You could try dsixda's Android Kitchen there is a easy way to build stock based ROM like removing stuff adding them etc. I used to build sometimes it's really easy. But not for someone who wants to build ROM from scratch like AOSP. They have to setup Kitchen manually there are lot of tutorials out there just search.
