Can this phone be unlocked from O2? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So can Xperia Play be unlocked for free to work with all carrier cards?

If anyone knows, please don't keep silence, as the answer will decide will I buy this phone, or not.

You can unlock for free if you know how and already own the software. Chances are you will have to pay a small 24$ to have someone who already bought the software an dongle to unlock it for you. The 24$ is because even with the software you still have to buy credits per each unlock. If you can afford the phone then whats another 24$...
I got my r800x from verizon for 75$ plus the 24$ to have unlocked later, 99$ for a great phone.

Ok, I understood. Allesandro price is 24$, do Blagus makes unlock yet?

Some people say he charged 20, then you said 24, but he told me to pay 30. What the heck is with the random pricing?

Can't get my Desire unlocked?

I wanted to debrand, but apparently debranding locks Orange UK phones or does it?
Anyway tried HTCUnlock.com/Unlockingonline.com
Got the following.
The reason why your order could not be processed is as follows:
VERY NEW HTC HANDSET - PLEASE UPGRADE SERVICE
The scammers even though it was advertised as £12.99, they want me to order again this time paying £29
So the next one I tried,
HTCCode.com
Something similar, they could not unlock.
Anyone any ideas? I don't really need it unlocked as would be using on Orange anyway but wouldn't want to be locked out.

When did you purchase the code from HTCCODE? Our database was updated on the 28th July and thereafter we have codes for all HTC Desire.
I suggest you take a look at this thread :
http://www.htccode.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2187
I bought a Desire for my girlfriend yesterday and I've unlocked it at http://www.htcimeiunlock.com/htc-desire-unlock
I payed $25 on the new database because I was in a hurry and didn't wanted to wait and see if the code can be found in the standard database first($16).

I had the same thing with my week old desire (tried unlocking the day after getting it). They said that I could do a more expensive search that would probably work, however they suggested just waiting for HTC to release the new database.
It all depends on when your phone was manufactured and what database update will include your code.

Nope. Not with mine anyway and also LennyUK is running custom firmware on his orange locked Desire.
The only things to be careful of is the HBOOT version and also make sure you flash the correct radio.
I've tested 5.09.00.08 and 5.09.00.20 and they both work with my phone.
Telus
I used htcimeiunlock.com. They tell from the start the price for each search options ($15 and $24).
Mine was $15.
why are you all paying for unlocking???
Is it possible to do it without paying?
You can try asking your provider for the unlock code, I think they charge 15 pounds.
Right now there is no free way to unlock the new htc devices.

[Q] Any way to sim-unlock HTC Wildfire S for free

Dear All,
sorry if anyone has asked this already.
Is there a way to unlock HTC wildfire S from Three (UK mobile provider) for free.
To be honest, I don't even mind paying the 15 US dollars for a online unlocking service, but I tried this already yesterday and the dudes from htcsimunlock.com (or whatever that is) told me that they cannot provide me with an unlocking PIN.
Also, I rooted the phone yesterday, but this didn't solve the issue.
Any comments will be highly appreciated.
Thank you

i guess you wil have to s-off .. for s-off you can gogle for XTC clip you may find a cheap used one on ebay or amazon or may get it on rent some where in your locality..
Try to make contact with your service provider Three, in my country some service providers give unlock code for free
Although not recommended, I took a shot at an eBay service to unlock mine. They did provide the correct PIN but took them a while (2 days actually ). Give it a shot if you want to, they provide a refund if they can't get it done as well..

LT28At Carrier Unlock

Has anyone tried getting AT&T to unlock an off-contract xperia ion? I'd love to buy the phone, and $449 is an awesome price point (esp compared to the Galaxy Nexus at $350), but I'd really like to use it with T-mobile.
Google it some site selling unlock code for about $30 but don't buy it from unlockit dot com for $9.95 because they can't do it and will refund your money. Buy the phone on ebay cheaper for about $350 but if you use it on T-mobile then you only get "E" speed.

any link on which seller can unlock it? I have tried several, and none could work it out.
I seriously doubt you will find one that can actually unlock it. Sony isn't even selling them unlocked in the US due to their agreement with AT&T.

Might be better...
It might actually be better to wait for the acro S, which I believe Sony plans to sell unlocked?
Anyone have any idea how long it'll take for the acro S to get here?
I have unlocked few AT&T phones that I bought off-contract. Usually a phone call to their customer service works. But some reps might not be helpful - so you should save your receipt and email AT&T for the unlock code.
They won't give you an unlock code for the ion because it is exclusive to AT&T in the US. It will take a few months before they give it out.
Well, I had no problem with getting the unlock code from AT&T for their exclusive phones (X10, Play). I just had to tell them I'm gonna pay the whole off-contract price and I need to use it overseas (which was actually my case). I always call them first to check the availability of the unlock code - then I go buy it
Even if the phone is purchased full MSRP without subsidization they will not give you the unlock code for the Ion...

Nope. Notice how even on Sony's online store they don't sell it unlocked. That's due to the agreement with AT&T. If you want it unlocked you have to buy the international version from out of the US.

I wonder. It talks a lot about joysticking and the Ion doesn't have one, so I am not sure about this one.

Myself and another person have tried worldGSMcodes.com, cellphoneunlock.net and mobile gadgets co/Unlockitnow.com no luck. Cellcorner I did not try but have read alot of reviews. The reviews were dominantly not favourable.Keep in mind there description speaks of a joystick which we haven't seen on sony ericssons for quite a long time. Ive contacted cellunlocker.net and they can't do it either. I've tried the more expensive factory sony factory unlock options with these websites and they refunded me. Right now all we can do is wait for the exclusive agreement to end in the USA.
You guys might want to look at this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790180
I emailed the guy from the ezsemc app page and clarified a few things with him. He said it will sim unlock the ion. If anyone is willing to try it please let us know the results.

Cellcorner doesn't work. I tried it and got full refund.
Today I tried this method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790180
It worked. Now I have a sim free phone. I paid 40 USD. It took 2 minutes to complete the entire operation. In the software there is no LT28 but you can choose LT 26S and it will work fine.
Update: Bootloader can be unlocked now.
Thnx to Spectre51 for pointing out this solution.

So the OP of that thread sent me a message. I guess someone else tried the service using a LT26i (Xperia S) with a bootloader unlock allowed no and it sim unlocked his phone and changed that no to a yes.

Which LT28 do you have? AT&T or Rogers?

Seriously!, cant change default provider?

I just wanted to be clear.
I cannot change default provider without buying an unlock code?
I have never had to buy a code before
I have rooted it and "unlocked" it (via htcdev.com) as the word "unlock" has two meanings
You see, I can buy about 10 of these for $85 each (going out of business this weekend) and wanted to be clear what my profits would be to make them network free
I have read this was not possible on other threads but that was before htcdev.com allowed unlocking of bootloader and wondered if that had made a difference
Cheers
Unlocking your bootloader doesn't remove the SIM-LOCK (see FAQ at HTCdev)...........so if your phone is branded, you won't be able to use any other sim unless the Sim-lock is removed.............instead of buying the codes for $85,buy an XTC-Clip it removes all restrictions from your phone
Thanks

Cheers, I just wanted to make sure I hadnt missed anything
BTW the phones were $85 each not the unlock code
It would take about ten phones to make the XTC worth my while considering the AU dollar
Checking it out as I type
Bought Unlock code

I took too long and didnt get those phones, just the one I tried to work out
I succumbed and bought an unlock code although I will say I got it for free as I purchased it through freeunlocks.com
The whole thing seems dodgy but it worked out
I bought 250 business cards for $15 from vista and then they sent me an unlock code after a few hours that worked instantly.
I was wanting to get those business cards from that site anyway that advertises on EBay so they seemed legit
If I went direct they were are "free'' and $9 delivery but I will say I was able to unlock it for free.
Wish I had whatever code generator they are using.
So I now have a totally unlocked wildfire s (the b model here in OZ) for $85 cool and $15 worth of business cards
Wish I had been more ballsy and spent $800. Could made some cash
