For some reason gmail will only sync to my phone correctly; ie: notification icon, vibrate, sound; if I actually go into the inbox and refresh it.
I tried altering the settings a bit and that didn't help. I think gmail sync is on under general settings > sync inboxes and labels. I have tried searching google and here as well.
Any ideas?
I am on simply AOSP ROM with Shane's honeycomb theme, if that matters. The gmail version is the newest one.

I don't understand why but not I didn't have anymore color in my labels in gmail app.
I'm using a froyo rom and it always worked by the past until I tried to change color of labels from gmail website.
I tried :
- to delete preference gmail app
- restart my phone
But it changes nothing.
And I remark that it's same think in my HTC Hero gmail app (I've put also a 2.2 rom on it).
I'm asking what could I do on my gmail account but in my webmail in my pc, I see the goold colors.
I've trying also to copy some mails to my gmail account using imap but I don't think it's the cause.

for a while, i was using the htc mail app (not gmail) and everything worked fine with the email notifications in the taskbar on my desire z...
until i decided to check out the gmail app (for labels aso). so i deleted my account settings in the htc mail app and entered all in the gmail app. however, i wasn't happy with the gmail app (missing to many features) and went back to the htc mail app, reversing the account stuff (for the my main mail account meaning only to un-tick the mail-sync).
now, i don't get notifications on the taskbar, if a new mail arrives. i checked the preferences and turned everything on, that looked like a notification setting... what am i missing?? anybody else with a similar issue?

just to close that one: I deleted all account settings from the google mail app and htc mail app, deleted all application data (in application settings) for those two apps, re-entered my account settings in htc mail and now it works again... cant figure out, what was wrong before...
I hooked up gmail and facebook (inside Xperia) settings correctly yet the notifications do not come, i have to manually check them, then only the phone gives indications about new messages,posts..etc.
noticed the sync icon does not seem to be there on the notification bar all the time, but while it's there the messages, posts sent to me during that time are received without me having to intervene to receive them.
i've enabled background data and auto sync, still I have to manually check for updates
this is my first android so not sure whether the sync logo should be on notification bar all the time
It's not there all the time only when syncing and you can change how often it syncs in the app settings I believe

so, this feature is not like the mail retrieval found on BlackBerry mobiles, instead it is a interval mail/notification retrieval process,simply to put it..facebook inside xperia is not push ,am i correct?

When I run the official Twitter app and check the box to notify me on mentions and DM's the settings revert back to unchecked. Anyone find away around this? I'm on 4.0.4
I'm having the same issue on GummyNex 0.9.0. Stupid twitter app lol.

Check your Sync Settings under Settings>Accounts & Sync. You should have it on for twitter.
Also, if you limit background data, or manually toggle the sync settings it will affect the settings in the app.

I've done all of that, everything was working good before I used this version of twitter.

I don't use the official Twitter app, but I noticed that even the web version has trouble with the DM notification.
It kept reverting my last received message back to unread although I had read it ... a bunch of times!
on my Optimus G in Calendar/settings/accounts when I go to my gmail account the top of the screen has a message "This account is not being synced..." How can I make this happen? I read a suggestion to delete the information in the calendar and let it re-sync, but I don't know how to delete the calendar info. I've gone into gmail calendars on my pc and things seem ok there??? Is there another way to enable the sync?

are you using the power saver features or greenify it has option to turn sync off/hibernate i've noticed sometimes it doesn't reenable them from time to time, try un checking the sync options and can go into settings from the app and mashed sync is clicked

If you have calendar synced (will delete local data): Go to system settings and apps. Click the all tab. Scroll down and find calendar storage clear data and force close. Check calendar/syncing.

unfortunately neither suggestion worked. When I go to the Account & Sync page, Gmail is not listed. I would have expected that. Is this the problem? How do I add Gmail to the sync, or Gmail calendars. My Gmail account actually syncs and pushed mail.
Weird... Gmail should be added to Accounts & Sync when Gmail is installed. I would try uninstalling Gmail entirely and reinstalling.
As for Calendar... as stated above, System Settings>Apps and clear Data on Calendar Storage. This fixed syncing errors for me.
Also, try going into Settings within the Calendar app itself. There you can select which calendars to sync. Maybe all are deselected, so that is the reason for it saying that in Accounts & Sync?
