A young developer that was originally planning on getting one. I looked at his post history and he mentioned not having enough money to get the SGSII five days ago. So I guess not.
last time i talked to him he didnt have enough money!
Sweet Start!!! Can wait. BTW loving the phone so far. super fast... for now

Would it be any easier to root the device if we find a way to S-OFF it? That's what I ended up doing with my HTC Thunderbolt.
As a matter of fact because the stock rom is so loaded with bloatware and so darned buggy, I may end up having to go back to Verizon / thunderbolt

Will be nice when some projects get off the ground. I just picked up mine a couple of days ago to replace my HTC HD2 (which I immediately rooted and upgraded to android and it went from WinMo 6.5 to Froyo up to Gingerbread 2.3.7 before it died). Great phone! The only real nuisance with the Galaxy SII is that T-Mobile loads it up with tons of worthless crap that I'll never use and just clutters up the UI.
We do a lot of android development at work (though that's not my job) so I think it might be time to cozy up to one of the developers and set up my own cooking environment. I'll bring this ToDo list along and see if we can't get something going with CM7.
It's too bad that TMO needed a different chipset to support their non-standard radio frequencies. Otherwise we could just use the ROMs cooked up for the Euro models.

Great news! We can only hope our neglected E4GT gets some ICS love soon too.
EDIT: Apparently it's been said this is just an ICS launcher...
Still some pretty cool mods though hey! I wouldn't mind the fast switch program he had. Its the same one I got on my galaxy tab 10.1 ICS will get here eventually amd when it does I hope it changes the android expereince with lots of eye candy and fun features. Hope it really takes advantage of our 1gig ram and fast internal storage and is coded specificly for duel core cpu's. How sweet would thay be !

I think they are talking in general the SGS2 has been out for a few months now it's just new for the US market.
there is a ICS launcher that looks just like that and the status bar is wrong i think its the launcher with a themed bar
I could not careless about the ICS Sprint would push to us. I want the ICS that the devs bring us.

Google WANTS Ice Cream Sandwich
It was my understanding that Google wants as many devices as possible to be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich as soon as possible to push developers in to moving their current applications to this platform and that Google basically wants previous versions including Honey Comb to go the way of the Dodo or the Dinosaur. So this could mean that we would see an upgrade fairly quickly for our devices so as to reduce fragmentation.

Someone posted this on engadget as an idication that the epic touch 4g would get ICS. Frankly I'm not sure how they determined that from the link.

All that tells us it they're working on an update (which we already knew, since they have known bugs they're trying to resolve), and it's full of placeholder text. The only version is mentions is 2.3.3, and we're on 2.3.4. So clearly not an indication of any actually useful information.

Thanks - I couldn't figure out why they thought that link had anything to do with ICS.
Of course if they really wanted a shock and awe campaign tomorrow, just imagine if the top 10 Android devices all got an update to ICS tomorrow
I would rather have to wait a bit for good ROMs than have everything the first week so we don't have to listen to the "Where's the Jelly Bean update " talk. My phone is perfect and will only get better. Its not like every CM7 nightly is perfect. It takes a lot of nightlies to get a stable release. Coming from the og evo to this makes me sad ,theres is very little roms or tweaks for this device and most have more problems than the stock does.Wish i could port roms myself but i dont even know where to start.
Wish list:
-Working miui rom
-working cm7 rom
-working sense 3.0 or 3.5 rom
I already know 3 people that have already sold this phone cause of los and countless other minor annoying issuses but mainly no real dev support or even a sign of anything good coming any time soon.i know these things take time but this phone has the worst reception of any sprint phone i have owned to date so its hard to stay positive.Me my wife and 2 other ppl i know have all the same issues so i know its not my handset and we live in nyc where service was great before this phone.im doing my best to hang in here and not go back to my evo.I love everything about my gs2 with exception of cell reception and 3g data speeds and 4g is truly pointless.Anyone know any updates on my wishes?
Can't put a sense rom on this device and Miui is based off CM7. The CM team will be getting our device shortly (if they don't have it already). And Teamwin now has an Epic Touch and they're working on their recovery for it. Samsung cdma devices always make slower progress with development. People either have to be patient or move on.

Almost 2 months (6+ weeks if I recall) until we had CM6 RC1...
...Spoiled EVO4G scener who got in well after release I'd wager.
I had that phone on release day rooted in the RadioShack parking lot and aside from the millions of Fresh based sense roms (or themes, really) until AOSP came around the only interesting things were a smattering of cool kernels (to break the FPS cap, OC, UV, HAVS, etc)...and AOSP took almost 2 months.
OP, If you want it hack it or shut up.
EDIT: I don't mean to come off like a ****, but, a lot of us got very spoiled by the EVO4G scene...that phone was an amazing exception IRT development. I've never seen any phone accrue so much development results in such a short amount of time. I have been phone hopping ever since selling my EVO4G in June and came to terms with that a long time ago. The EVO3D is closer, but still nowhere close. There are millions of (mostly theme-based) ROMS...CM7 is coming along I hear, MIUI as well. I hated that phone, but, if you like Sense I don't know why you would get anything but an HTC. If I get an HTC and hate sense I know eventually I will be able to take it off, but, the opposite isn't anything I would bet on.
You should sell your epic touch and get a ppc6700... Just saying.

25th July 2010, 11:59 PM is when it was originally posted for the Evo. So 2 months, considering the Evo released on June 4th, 2010.
This phone has been out for 6 weeks! I'll go out on a limb here and say your expectations are out of whack dude. And no dev support? I'm sure the guys that have compiled really good kernels and ROMs already really appreciate that. I personally love slaps upside the face. I guess the guys that dev for Android find a way to block out all the BS and whiners and continue to push on for the greater good. I really don't know how they do it.
The funny thing is that the reason the EVO got so much support was it was hands down the best phone at the time.
Now Sprint has choices and with choices means less support on each device.
Just my opinion.
Once someone creates an AOSP kernel, it would help the develoment of CM7, CM9 and MUIMs.
The reason why OG EVO was so popular, because it was given to all the developers during last year Google IO. All the devs had a phone to develop on.
If you want to help, you should on work creating an AOSP kernel, its not a very easy task.
Please close this thread.

So even though LG announced ICS for the Optimus LTE back in December, there was no mention of ICS for the Nitro specifically and there was some speculation that this meant AT&T had no plans of updating it.
Today AT&T announced ICS is available for the HTC Vivid, which has nothing to do with this forum, but the same press release listed several other devices that will get ICS "in the coming months" and the Nitro is among them.

With AT&T, if you're going to assume anything, assume the worst. So if there's no official announcement, assume there will be no update.
Now, there's an official announcement and a general time frame for the ICS update.
Well I found this article, looks like we will be gettin ics, maybe cm9 before the official release

Unlocking LG Nitro P930 with ICS
I purchased a LG Nitro P930 (AT&T) that had been rooted and also has ICS
on it. I've tried to unlock the phone and have been unable to do so. I have
an unlocking code and I went to cellunlocker.net for help when I couldn't get
it to unlock. I followed all of the different ways to unlock it and it still won't work.
I've even tried 2 different sim cards in it and have the same results.
Has anyone been able to unlock this phone with ICS or have any suggestions
short of throwing it out (too expensive).
Any and all help will be appreciated.
Ivan
Yeah, assuming you have root (if you don't, root it) flash the official Gingerbread nandroid backups found in this thread using the dd commands. I don't understand how your device has ICS, though, unless somebody had access to what designgears just leaked to us or unless you're mistaking ICS for CyanogenMod or AOKP.
You might want to go ahead and make backups of your partitions before you flash the Gingerbread images, though.
You're Right
Thanks Malnilion.
Here's what the seller put in his description:
Auction is for a perfect condition LG Nitro HD Smartphone on AT&T Network with Android's latest OS installed, Ice Cream Sandwich via CyanogenMod 9 build. ICS is not available yet for this phone because LG/ATT have been dragging their feet on getting it ready. This phone is by far the nicest phone I have used in quite awhile. I've had the Galaxy Note, Galaxy Captivate, Nexus, Lumia 900, HTC Titan, and a bunch more. I test phones a lot. Screen is real HD at 720p and the best one of those I have seen. Colors are near perfect and detail is bright and crisp. Phone has been rooted and has ClockworkMod Installed so you can load up any ROM you want with a simple reboot. It was quite a task getting ICS on this phone but I was able to do it and it runs like butter. Really smooth and has full capabilities.
Hopefully this answers your question. The phone looks great with it and I'd like to keep ICS if I could but I need to get the phone unlocked and nothing I have tried so far works. Is my only answer to go back to the original OS or ?
Thanks

hopefully the seller put a nandroid backup of the stock ROM on the sd card somewhere.......then with CWM you can easily backup your current ROM, restore the stocker & unlock the device and then restore the cm9.
We've seen lots of complaining in the last couple of days about what is and isn't working in these ports.
It seems GPS may or may not be working correctly, that it may or may not be due to the Leap Second.
WiFi, Bluetooth, volume... if you have these issues, they can mostly be remedied. If not, gratz.
The fact is, these Roms are ports of development previews on a phone slightly but importantly different than yours running an OS that hasn't been released yet.
I was deeply amazed and impressed that some developers had working ports to CDMA the very night it was announced for GSM.
I'd you are running one of these JB ports and you find that it works well enough as a daily driver, consider yourself fortunate and hit the thanks button on the OP, maybe even donate.
If you are trying it out, but find that it lacks the stability or functionality that you require, click the thanks button on the OP anyway because they spent the time to give you something now for free that which you would otherwise have to wait weeks for, or, considering VZW's track record, maybe never.
This is how I'm looking at it- I'm getting to preview the latest update for free before it officially comes available. Just like those lucky bastards at Google I/O, except how much did they pay per ticket?
Thanks, devs, for doing what you do.

They paid $900 per ticket. But they get $1200 or so free of stuff. So they actually received 300 for going to it if you look at it that way.
Nevertheless I'm very pleased with JB. Everything is working beautiful for me. I using daily driver now without any issues. Just the stock JB at that. I'm not much for all the features of Roms. More into kernel tweaks which I do miss from glados kernel. But Franco is doing fine for now.

Thats why I put going to Google IO one year at least on my bucket list.
i think people are forgetting these roms are from nandroids! lol!
I most definitely appreciate the efforts. I ran the Vicious JB stock port on my VZW Gnex but in the end, I couldn't stick with it because the Verizon framework apps don't work on Jelly Bean yet. This means I couldn't use the My Verizon or NFL Mobile apps, and that's a deal breaker. I understand that you can blame Verizon for requiring the back end framework in order for their branded apps to work, and that's all fine and well, but at the end of the day, I couldn't run them.
Be that as it is, I still appreciate the efforts of those developers to have a working CDMA port the same night. Thanks to all who do what you do. I'm a software developer myself so I know how tedious this crap can be.
Half of the JB "hate" posts are not "my app doesn't work, JB sucks!" but rather "my app doesn't work, I'm posting it in case someone has stumbled upon a fix"
The problem is 80% of the people who own a GN are:
a. Bronies (so they're inherently tools),
b. it's their first Android device (so they're inherently tools).

I used My Verizon on JB. You just need to install the VerizonSSO apk in order for it to work...I can upload the file if you need it.

Would you mind? I can find download locations out there but I'm not sure what version's needed.

The problem is 80% of the people who own a GN are:
a. Bronies (so they're inherently tools),

Bring on the hate :cyclops:
These aren't "ports" of Jelly Bean roms. They are the real deal made specifically for this chipset and device. And, everything works.
I had to look up bronies as well.... I am sending along my hate alone with jesusice

That sort of depends. There are some changes that have to be made to a ROM for the GSM model to be 'ported' to the CDMA models. So, it's a 'port' for those phones, because only the GSM developer preview was 'released'.
They do realize other top phones are just getting ice cream sandwich, and we Nexii already have Jelly Beans sweet taste in our mouths?? Ridiculous!

One of those lucky ones everything is working just fine, still couldn't see any issues, and I flashed my phone on the 28/06
Funny how ICS was the major update but jb is more of a complete experience.
butter and jelly please...
I meandered on to the development section and was quite surprised to see such recent ROMS and developers working on a cell phone that is turning 3 years old in 5 months. Many EVO buyers have had their contracts expire and are able to upgrade to a new phone. There are much faster phones out there, with better specs that are possibly more interesting to develop for, because you might reach a larger user base. My question to the Devs is why are you sticking to the original EVO? Don't get me wrong, I am a current original EVO owner myself so by all means, keep up the good work, just curious as to why you stuck to such an old device.
Simple answer is its fun! Its a great way to get practice and many devs have friends in the forum. So why walk away completely? If you still have it, you can test away on things you try to build.

Haha, so the EVO is just a scapegoat for developers that don't want to brick their actual device?

Accidental thanks :banghead: in some cases, no. But I actually have less a reason to not flash everything in sight, if you catch my drift..

Also the EVO is, and always has been a great Device. Why walk away from it when it still viable, and as stated hellua fun. The proof is in the pudding. Look at the support, and Rom Development available

MikROMs Since 3/13/11
If I could boil it down to a sentence it would be... The Evo is a great device to build for.

4.2 on the OG is more functional than 4.2 on the Jewel. And I need the 4.2 Bluetooth stack. So . . . yeah . Thus the reason my OG is listed as Device 1 in my sig .
Hell, Devs are still working on the Samsung Moment
Sprint htc evo 4g
i bought a sprint htc evo 4g that i bought from amazon ... i cant use sprint in my country and i cant unlock a sprint phone since itc cdma right?... but can i just leave the phone like with sprint but root it and play wiith iit because the only reason i bought it was to learn everything about rooting and i needed a test device...??

Sure. Since you don't have service on the phone, it's basically a really small tablet. All the basic functionality will work, and there is always WiFi.

I'm not sure what you're asking. Please, be specific. The ROM is fully functional outside of the things that require new drivers for Android 4.x, i.e. front-facing camera, and WiMAX.

Yep and over on XDA-Developers, it's the most actively dev'd device still. It was the Evo of it's time

It's actually SDX Developers...and yes the Moment was the "Evo" of it's time, sadly however, it's time has passed. I'm a new convert over to XDA from SDX, having to give last rites to my Moment a month ago. Really only one active ROM still being worked on (UberMoment 1.6 - props to TheTehk17 for hanging in there :good: ). They never got a GB Rom fully functional (CM7 was close), all dev was, and still is, Froyo. Major hardware limitations and lack of support will probably keep any further ROM upgrades forthcoming.
Inherited an OG to use for now - great to see all the work being done! Waiting for the arrival of the S4 or M7 for upgrade, until then enjoying the plethora of ROM's available!
Upon upgrade, I will be passing the OG on to any dev here who will continue to put it to good use!

lol.. brain fart
Yeah, I never thought the Moment could successfully run Froyo, unless there was a hybrid Froyo/GB Rom. I dev'd a nice ROM for the Moment, but I think I took all the links down a few months ago.

The devs did a pretty good job porting over Froyo ROMs from the Intercept and Transform, and got those pretty functional. Otherwise, the phone would have been stuck on 2.1 Eclair! As mentioned, they have a somewhat working CM7 - buggy, but it does boot up.! The dev that ported that moved on leaving no one to work out the kinks.
So, for me, I'm like a kid in a candy store with not only GB Roms, but ICS, JB, AOSP.......and Sense too! Hell, I'm in hog heaven
lol. yeah, you can flash a different ROM every day for a year, going back to 2.1 if you wanted to

lol - I might have to hold out on that upgrade until I get this "flashing" urge under control..........
Will be interesting to see when the S4/M7 debuts, how long it takes to get dev going on each
i'm glad dev's have kept this phone up to date its alot of fun
