Help with launcher pro Et4g - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

My "people" lp widget wont seem to update all of newly sycd contacts. Running midnight 2.1 Appreciate
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium

Just contact the LP developer, via twitter probably, he's really good about getting back to people....

Launcher Pro is dead, hasn't been updated in a long time.
Sucks, as I bought it.

You guys reccomend one? Adw is my fav.. Was just looking for the scrollable dock. Thanks

Go launcher with android pro widgets or colorize widgets on the market it good and in my opinion better than LP's widgets. Keep in mind that you are losing hardware accelleration by using third party launchers. This will take away the smoothness of the OS. Not noticeable on other phones but most likely you will see a difference on how the homescreen operates.

no smoothness is lost on THIS phone, man, using Launcher Pro..

Android has hardware acceleration?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium

I was trying to help with alternatives to LP. The mention of hardware accelleration has been posted by other members on this forum. I was just repeating that. My personal experience when I tried the phone at the store was when I put an alt launcher is that it did not run as smooth. LP was not the one I tried.

It's not only about smoothness of TW launcher, but also how much cpu time a launcher uses. LP is very efficient, but not perfectly efficient.
Last time I tried to measure LP vs TW cpu usage, LP was using 20% more cpu in swiping according to System Panel.

[Q] Touchwiz vs....

So Ive tried all kinds of launchers out there. And after a few weeks or so I keep finding myself going back to touchwiz. I'm always reading how people hate touchwiz but Im starting to thing that its the best launcher.
I was using GOLauncher for the longest but it just doesn't feel as nice as touchwiz.
What launchers are you using that you think is better than touchwiz?
I'm using ADW Launcher. Right now, I have 4 icons of my choice on the bottom, to go to my App Drawer, you have to swipe up, and swiping down anywhere brings the notification down, so I don't have to reach all the way to the top.
I think the real thing is TouchWiz vs MotoBlur vs HTC Sense. I don't really mind TouchWiz, but I really do lyk being able to swipe up for the app drawer. BTW, I really prefer HTC Sense. It's so awesome.
Also, TouchWiz uses a lot of resources. That's also a reason why the Vibrant isn't getting ICS with TouchWiz. TouchWiz has too much going on with it, which slows the phone down.
You probably won't notice the slow down, unless you change your ROM and use an AOSP ROM. (Vanilla Android)
I don't think the epic 4g touch will ever slow down. Touch Wizz home screen is hardware accerrated which means scroling side to side will be made smoother than a non HW accellerates launcher (tecknically). How ever i have used GOlauncher PRO which isnt HW accellarated and its practically just as smooth even though on any phone of lesser hardware it would be noticably laggier. This phone just powers through with ease how ever. Eventually i went back to touch wizz because its simple and works flawlessly and isnt bad looking (unlike how i feel about how htc sense looks). OP i went down the same exact test road you did and honestly Touch Wiz is my personal choice. Its really up to you and what style you like. This phone will breeze through any aftermarket launcher wether its HW accellerated or not. I would suggest dooling around and testing several out. There lots of different tweaks that ADB launcher and GO launcher offer that Touch Wizz doesnt. But i love how simple and easy it is and looks.
Oh FYI HTC Sense and MotoBlur arnt available for a samsung phone. Honestly i prefer Touch Wizz over sense any day after using sense for over 2 years. I know you were asking for what launchers people think are the best. I like stock the most but have done TONS of research of after market launchers and it seems the the one you and i have both already tested GO Launcher Pro is by far the most widely used and the overall favorite for after market ones.

The customizable dock and gestures are a large reason I like the look and feel of GO Launcher EX over TouchWiz. I even played some with ADW, but still like GO Launcher slightly better. It may be because I'm an iPhone convert [FREE AT LAST!] and felt I could customize GO Launcher a little more to match things I'm used to like sideways scrolling in the app drawer, etc.
Haven't compared speed too carefully, but it seems as fast. I recently rooted, put down the Blazer ROM, and overclocked, so either way it's blazing.

The newest iteration of ADW EX is the best launcher experience I've ever used: To me, even better than Go Launcher, what with the new ICS-like interface.
That's one of the apps that I'm so glad I paid for, as the dev is totally on his game as far as updates and cutting-edge releases go.
There's a reason that Teamdouche included ADW as part of CyanogenMod for all that time:
It works REALLY well, and has enough customization out-of-the-box that even those guys basically said "Yeah, this'll work fine for us."
That speaks volumes, to me.
ADW EX ftw, for now, and for the foreseeable future, as well.

Ah -- I prob haven't tried the newest edition. I'll check it out!
I have tried them all. But I still don't care who knows it but I like touchwiz. And I'm not just talking about replacement launchers. Blur/sense/aosp they all suk.
Touchwiz is my fave. Also I have my nomex undies on sooo flame away.

I have no problem with TW, I just got too used to launcher pro, honestly only the dock I would miss, I'm used to having 5 icons there and the app drawer always in center.

Sorry about that. Ment to also put that it does have a 5app dock also. Give it a try, this is what stock outa the box should be. Samsung needs to fire there whole R&D department and hire some of the dev's here on XDA.

One last thing. Have you tried to hold your finger on the bottom page indicator dots and slide your finger? It will move through your pages super fast but not so fast that you cant see your apps. I feel this much faster than any scrolling app drawer. Just my two cents. It works the same on the home screen also.

ADW replacement for CM7?

Well, I have to admit it that I dont like ADW launcher in CM7. I prefer much more simpler such like Gingerbread launcher. I found one but it kept FC on me. Do you know where to find one that is working properly?
I can't say I I have a gingerbread launcher apk, but "zeam" is a simple launcher in comparison to adw at least it has been to me in the past

I had Zeam on my phone for a looooong time. Gave up on it after a couple of bad updates that introduced lag and switched to LauncherPro. Despite having larger footprint, IMHO LP is pretty lag free and has the features that I want (scrolling widgets) as well as a way of saving the dock settings. Zeam kept crashing on my Epic, and there was no easy way to restore the icon spacing etc. settings. Granted, I never ran it on CM7 Epic, but still have Zeam as my choice launcher on my CM7 Nook Color. I also have ADW EX (the premium version of ADW) and feel that its interface is not very intuitive/somewhat clunky vs. both Zeam and Launcher Pro - but it is the most full-featured and customisable one of the three. Never tried Go Launcher but heard some very good things about it.

And another +1 for Go Launcher, although it seems like it's a bit too full-featured to be considered a "simple" replacement. I don't have any issues with the options, but I could see it being somewhat confusing for anyone wanting just a plain home replacement.

I like go launcher but I remember reading something from konane (I believe) and he said that within golauncher there was a similar service to carrier iq and that it sends reports (or something) to the developer with info about our phone. That is why most people inlcuding myself expirience poorer battery life with go launcher. Other than that I think Go launcher is the way to go!

What's your daily launcher?

Just curious what launchers most people prefer and use most for their S3...and why.
I've been an Apex guy myself for a while now and think its best for my needs. Doesn't do everything I want in a launcher but damn close. I've tried em all and used to use either Go Launcher and Launcher Pro...and then Zeam for a while and Holo too but always have come back to Apex.
For me, things I really prefer are:
Homescreens (the more the merrier)
Docks (also the more the merrier AND the ability to have up to 7+ icons in each)
Changing homescreen grid size (to get more icons per inch ie. 7x5 as opposed to standard 4x4 or 4x5)
Resizing and scrollable widgets
App drawer tabs and customizability
These are a few things I look for that Apex seems to provide. Like I said its not perfect but close. I'm still wiling to try others if I haven't already and I'm curious what others use and the main reasons why.
Let us know if you will.

go launcher seemed to always add battery drain when i used it. i've tried going back multiple times and each time i'd get bad battery life which would go away after uninstalling. it also started slowing down my droid charge, each update added something that caused my charge to be slow as heck (it's only got 512MB of RAM).

Can someone run though the features they like in tw? The bits I like about the note interface such as taking a screenshot awaiting your palm across the screen still work in Nova. On the other hand especially on the phone with a lot of storage things like the Nova Launcher ability to use folders in the app drawer to organize applications so you don't have to scroll through hundreds of them are really nice. Same with the gestures for control which really cut down on the poking and pecking when it comes to trying to get stuff started quickly. I used TW for a few days and just found it pretty pretty plain Jane with no extra features

Touchwiz or custom launcher?

Hey there I am thinking about using a custom launcher to further customize my phone and was wondering if you guys and girls had any input in regards to battery life and performance. Do custom launchers typical have negative effevts on performance and battery. The way it seems to.me is that you are essntially always running a program in memory. Which would in turn use up ram and ofcourse battery life. If I am wrong in this please feel to correct me. Any and all input is welcomed.

Touchwiz launcher is a program that's running and using memory as well. You could use something like holo launcher that is more lightweight than the tw launcher. The tw launcher isn't running in the background if you use a different launcher cause that one took its place. You can even freeze the tw launcher with ti backup (touchwiz home). A launcher like go or adw may use more memory though.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
If you decide to use an alternate launcher then the default Touchwiz launcher will not be "running" in the background using up your battery.
Other launchers like Go Launcher , Nova, adw, etc., etc., do not necessarily use more or less battery. If poorly written software then yes.
However, the major launchers do a great job maximizing battery life...otherwise no one would use em.
I like alternate launchers simply for the added features such as gestures, resizing icons, different grid sizes, etc.. I really don't care about theming or changing colors but many do and alternate launchers allow that of course.
Try some, u can always uninstall.
Note: there is zero reason to freeze Touchwiz...no benefit at all.

TSF is a beast to get used to, thus far. Unless I'm a total moron, which is possible, it doesn't appear you can place apps in the app drawer in to folders. This makes for an awful navigation experience, despite the amazing eye candy.

Here is my current themed homescreen on touchwiz.

I was a 'stock' launcher user for a while. I gave Nova a try and have been happy. I don't utilize all of the features it has but it has been running smooth without any issues. You can always use a program like Home Switcher to try out different launchers easily.

TSF looks interesting. I watched the video but seem to have missed a place to download a trail version the price is steep to give it a shot.
I like touch wiz but I like scrollable wallpaper more. Nova ftw!

I use Apex launcher and Nova launcher, but prefer Apex. It just seems like a smoother launcher compared to Nova. Plus I like that when I leave from the app draw it saves my place on Apex rather then reverting back to the beginning like Nova does. Besises that they're basically the same if u ask me, just my two cents. Have fun trying them all out, they all have at least one maybe two things that sets it apart from the others. Now all u gotta do is find the one that u like and customize the heck out of it!
