Okay I'm on my T-Mobile SGS3 and I got the Google Voice app. I only use this app to make International calls/text messages and I use this app as my voicemail.
Now, I think I have the voicemail portion set up properly. I set it up using google.com/voice and disabled the old phone and 're-enabled' the new phone in settings on the computer browser.
and now when I test to see if it works, i DO hear my voice-mail message and my google voice number also works. so it seems like it works, but when someone leaves a voicemail, i don't get a notification or anything. but my OLD Samsung Vibrant receives the notification instead.
tl;dr / cliffs:
installed google voice app
google number rings on phone
my voicemail 'message' works
when someone leaves a voicemail, i don't receive it. my old phone receives it.
That is odd. Have you tried uninstalling Google Voice on your Vibrant?

Go to Google Voice on your computer and check the phone account?

I have the very same problem and my old phone recived notifications. The work around, not a fix, is to have google voice text you when you receive a new voicemail. To turn that on go to google voice settings on computer and check the box to send you a text when you receive a voicemail.
On Sprint, I got this to work by disabling voicemail on Google.com/Voice and then re-enabling voicemail on the website. I'm not sure if this is what you've tried or if you simply disabled your old phone and added your new one.
For some stupid reason, the setting doesn't exist on the phone itself, but doing this seemed to push the setting. It even greyed out the forwarding option on the phone. Good luck.
****. i dont think i disabled it from my OLD phone.
when i went to disable, i just hit the ##004# code on my new phone. i thought it would disable it completely. but now i guess i needed to put that code on my old phone?
which i can't do now cause t-mobile deactivated my old (large) sim. and also i reflashed a new stock rom on my old phone.
is that even the issue? the fact that i put the "deactivate" code using my new phone?
I used Google for voice mail but had a lot of problems, I switched Youmail and couldn't be happier, might want to give it a try..

okay, well, i've been workin at this for a couple hours now lol
and i don't know wth i did to fix it, but i fixed it.
tried a bunch of things. like re-installed the app. changed back to the carrier voicemail for a second and changed it back. changed it on google.com/voice again.
one of those things fixed it. everything is back to normal
I can't even get GV to configure my voicemail. I get a com.android.phone has stopped working error. ATT is of course no help. Anyone have other ideas?
I've done the following:
Uninstalled - Re-installed
Forced my GV # into call forwarding
tried the *004*1(GVnumber)#
and a Factory Reset
All with no luck....

Same here. AT&T
I haven't rooted my phone yet so I can't delete apps but I had ATT delete my 'att messages' app to see if that was the issue. It was not.... Back to the drawing board.

Same here.
It always crashed when changing voicemail providers on my old Skyrocket.
But then the voicemails still worked properly.
Not on the SIII, not yet. I havne't messed with it too much yet though.
T-Mobile user, this is how I got it to work:
Installed app, went through the steps to set it up till I got the com.android.phone error
logged into GV on my PC, removed old phone
reran setup steps, same error
verified GV recognized the new phone in web interface
seems to be working fine after that
Hello i just recently installed the cyanogenmod nightlymod 10 on my Nexus and when i press and hold 1 to access voicemail i get "Is an unrecongnized number please try again" and when i get a text message or notification saying you have voicemail call this number, which is the same number that is setup in my voice mail options i get the same issue.
I had no issues prior to this
Believe you open phone and choose settings. From there you can set up your number for voicemail. Only way to handle texts is to block them. Used to be a code you could send through text to stop them but I never got it to work.
Been awhile since I ran cm10, but believe most set up that way.

I'm running the 10/1 nightly build of Cyanogenmod 10.2 on my Epic 4g touch without too many issues except I cannot get my voicemail to work no matter what I do.
I have new voicemails in my inbox but get nothing in my Sprint visual voicemail app and even no text from them. The only way I can know I have a voicemail is to call my own number - found this out the hard way that I had been missing a bunch of things.
I tried to install Google Voice because I heard this works well with cyanogenmod but even this doesn't work. During the install, when it asks to call that long number that starts with *2.... it calls for 3 seconds and then hangs up. The install continues without error after that, but again, new voicemails aren't sent to the app, so I have no way of knowing when I get them
I could really use the help here, thanks so much.
I am having a strange problem with CM11 or any CM11 based ROM. When I first install the ROM, voice mail works fine from the phone app (by dialing my number and entering password), and also with the AT&T messages app. After a short time (within the same day), the voice mail password from the phone keypad stops working, but the messages app still functions. The voicemail responds that it is an incorrect password. This only happens on the CM11 roms, and I have no issues with other ROMs. Has anyone else experienced this, or have any ideas how to troubleshoot this? I have tried a variety of things, such as varying the amount of my customizations, apps installed, etc, but the problem always comes back.

i think some people had this issue, and they simply turned off dial pad tones...
Hi all, I've been asking around on AC forums and haven't got an answer yet, but going to see if tomorrow I can get to an ATT store for tech help. No help on the phone at all, just 3 different Tech reps going over the same thing again and again, with no result. Tried third party apps Google Voice and Youmail, can't even get the access codes to go through. The phone seems to be having errors, because it's looking for the Verizon Voicemail and even though I was able to set speed dial #2 for dialing ATT's Voicemail service, all I get is Missed Call notifications. Not every missed call leaves a voicemail, so would like some sort of Notification to alert me to my voicemails. Need this feature a lot. When I dial the access codes or even try changing to the ATT voicemail their Way with Holding down "1" , all i get is Call can't be completed and an error code. Also a message at the top of keypad screen saying No Sim, Sim Error. To me it seems like it's trying to dial the Verizon number, and it can't because of being on ATT. Has anyone had this problem?
Does anybody know a workaround. I was able to get google voice forwarded to my cell phone number, but doesn't still give a notification. I do get emails sent, even though send a text is clicked on Google Voicemail. Also spent time with their tech support with no help there. Notifications is Set and I have an alert for it on the Phone's Voicemail setting, so that's not working either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
You can set att voicemail to speed dial 1. I don't know the number. I just downloaded att visual voicemail app and got it to work. In order to set voicemail you need to go to settings>aplications>call>voicemail settings. Then input the number you're trying to use. It will save it as speed dial #1
