With sprint shares down 25% is there a possibility that the iphone will tank the company? Should we as consumers be worried?
I mean if they do fail will verizon pick them up and att get tmobile? Best bet woulx be for all sprint customers to purchase some shares since they are trading at around 2.20, compared to 29.30 for att...

No offense but you that's not really how you should be valuing a stock. Stocks don't all start out at one price and go up or down from there.

I was comparing there valuation at this present time. Being that sprint is the third largest cellular provider in usa I was comparing there current valuation.

Not only that I do sales for a living and I have to raise my capital every year or I wouldn't have a job. That is how a company grows. It doesn't mean the company has no money they just want to grow.

Ok..... Like I said just wondering what this all means for the consumer, my ultimate concern is should we look at this as a cinderella story and purchase some shares while they are relatively low or should we not.waste our money.
I just got involved in buying stocks and wanted a view from those in the technology field to give theirs. Often times shareholders paint a scarier picture than those outside that field.

talking about sprint, nothing to worry about, as stated before they are investing BILLIONS in there strategy, so they know what they are doing , I mean look they sold out of the low end iphone 4s models, so i think they'll be just fine on the iphone side , and as for lte only time will tell how well it does as its not even started rolling out yet.

Sprint's proposal is good for all of us. If they need to raise capital, so be it. Do you think investors are going to look at the possibility of Sprint overtaking at&t as a carrier? We don't need to worry, we have nothing to lose. We should be cheering for Sprint, they are finally making a smart move and we stand to benefit greatly from it. When the LTE buildout is complete and Nextel is gone, we will have one of if not the best network in the states. I don't know what kind of cash Sprint has on hand but I would seek capital if I was making this decision. They can earn interest on their on hand cash while they spend someone elses money? Sure they will pay interest on what they borrow ~6% for bonds, but they can offset this by earning on their cash and they won't be tapping their reserves.

Ok....^ this literally made me LOL.
The only issue here is that major shareholders and analysts are shortsighted. This has all been a knee-jerk reaction to the fact that sprint is spending alot of money in the short-term, and a failure to recognize the huge financial benefit of having arguably the most complete and reliable network in only a couple of years.
Could this shortsightedness kill sprint? Sure, it's a harsh example of the ridiculous and asinine nature of the "stock market", exemplifying the fact that it's all fake and built on people's opinions.
But I've been making and sticking with this argument: Verizon didn't get to be the largest carrier by having the best customer service or the lowest rates; they are where they are because they had the long-term foresight to build the biggest and most reliable network. And now Sprint will have one in 2 years that will rival it (especially in terms of LTE), in addition to having much better plans and price-points.
I have a lot of faith that sprint will come out on top because of this, so long as they can just entertain the wallstreet sheep for the next two years.

The 10 billion was announced by Sprint themselves. So that's officially being spent. The 20 billion is from a rumor article put out by the WSJ. So only God knows how true that is till it is officially confirmed. If it is ever confirmed.
I agree with the fact invested/shareholders are not looking in the long term. They are scared because Sprint is making such a big financial move in such a short time span. They are more worried about their money like it's grocery money and not thinking of it as retirement money.
The stock is on sale, good time to get in.
Investors were spooked by the 4G strategy announcement, not understanding the long term benefit and the advantages unification of their spectrum gives them which no other carrier has.
Sprint already pays CLWR per their contract; instead of paying them they'll spend on capex for their network for the better LTE on 1900 mHz.
Stock should rise with all the net adds from the iPhone.
The iPhone subsidy...every smartphone is already subsidized anyway. Totally overblown. Not having the iPhone was the reason subs were leaving.

So sprint finally confirmed that they will be offerring the new iphone but at a serious cost! They have to buy 30.5 million iphones over the next 4 years. Why would you do this sprint? **** they only have 55 million customers now, they would need atleast half of their base to get it plus add another 5 million. But with so many customers leaving monthly why would you invest so much in one device??

This has been months in the making, all the changes Sprint has made to contracts, ummmm everyone should have seen this coming. They are selling out because they want to sell and get PAID! Im just hoping we dont end up like At&T that had crap high end phones so they could push the Iphone to anyone looking for a really good phone. Time will tell if they embrace Iphone at the expense of everyone else. I dont hold out hope, but I could be wrong.
I'll never own an iphony. 3.7 inch screen, and no user swappable battery. Unacceptable plus they are made by apple.

True, I dont think I would have bet the company on it though... I mean with the network being as ****ty as it is they would need to boast some serious updates for customers to even recommend coming to sprint. But we will know in a few hours

Which doesn't make sense... 4 months of exclusivity would be absolutely useless. They would need 8-10 months at a minimum to seriously poach users from AT&T and Verizon. Seriously... If my contract with Verizon were ending and I only had to wait a couple months to roll into the next iPhone, what incentive do I have to move to Sprint?
Yeah, you might say Unlimited Data... But just wait until the iPhone sheep get onto Sprint's network and find out that they can average a brisk .2-.4mbs as opposed to the 1-3mbs they get on the other guys.

T-Mobile didn't get the money they got the use of spectrum. The money went to DT who kept it. I was on T-Mo for 7+ years I still follow their stuff they are still not doing well.

Probably nothing, we'd still get our phone bills, Sprint would just be out of debt but not in the position to do anything else as far as expanding their network and service. Possibly a buyout would be likely.
Maybe this is what they need, the reorganizing BK....Shed Nextel and replace the decision makers who've been making all the wrong choices the past 2-3 years. Sometimes I feel like they aren't even trying anymore and they have given up, but on occasion a glimmer of hope comes to surface. I've been with them almost 10 years.... They went from bad, to great, then to mediocre.

Thanks, but no. I don't want to even entertain the idea of them being bought out by Verizon or AT&T and us losing our unlimited data and decent pricing plans.
Maybe I'm a low end user but the data speeds I encounter are more than adequate for what I need from my phone. I'll hold tight with Sprint and see how the LTE integration plays out.

As long as they don't mess with our prices and speed up the 4G rollout I'm happy
It would be great if we could get better roaming rates in Japan, but I don't think it works that way, does it? I don't think T-Mobile users in the USA get cheaper roaming in Germany.

Lightsquared went far more south than that slut on me last week =)
This has some potentials.
2/3 owning state in Sprint would give control to them.
It would give Sprint a pretty healthy infusion of cash.
It gives Softbank access to more spectrum.
It gives Softbank the roaming agreements in the USA that it wanted.
It gives Softbank access to more phone systems they may want and possibly in reverse to Sprint.
It'll drive Sprint's stock price up. Short term anyway.
It has the potential to make Softbank/Sprint and everything else they own one of the largest global cell providers.
More than likely Sprint will continue to be treated independently in the USA under the guiding hand of them. Until they figure out what they want, I suspect pricing, unl data, etc won't change for awhile. After 2 years, anyone's guess tho.
Makes me sad because the possibility of Google buying Sprint goes down further

TMo and Sprint are definitely seeing gains from Verizon's apathy toward its customers. This Network Vision could really change the game.
We may see a lot of new devices come out too
i knew my "$10 premium data fee" on 4 lines was being used for something!!! it darn sure hasn't been used for getting me "premium data" since I started paying it over 2 1/2 yrs ago!!

It is no longer a premium data fee and they are still the cheapest national provider. Yeah their speeds are sub par but as long as it stays unlimited i dont care and im very happy.

The third largest carrier being bought (66% and a controlling stake from what I have read) by a foreign investor, much less Japan's 3rd largest carrier is a bombshell. Think when Vodafone got a significant stake in Verizon.
And yes, this is actually good news for Sprint. Don't know what that means from my MVNO - KDDI is a competitor of Softbank in Japan.

Possibly the best thing that could happen is a shakeup of the board and Hesse either put on warning or replaced as CEO. Sprint can be profitable again but it will take many years to do so. Softbank has always had a tough fight in Japan and yet they're still around.
All in all I don't see this as a bad deal.
as long as i can still have my SERO acct i'll stay with them. if i lose it, then i'll have to drop them. i locked - so far - on unlimited data on verizon. sprint's coverage has been getting progressively worse around my area which is mostly rural.
With Google's investment in lg for there next nexus device and the specs on the lg optimus g coming to sprint I don't think I will be able to resist. So for me it's lg or bust

You'd be surprised how much foreign investment is done to our telecom companies... but I think this is the biggest stake that I can recall. We'll see how it goes, I'm willing to wait for now and see what happens.

The current telecom industry is stagnated. ATT and VZ are satisfied with the status quo because all they're doing is raking in the money for its American and Foreign investors. They do not care about anything as long as the money keeps flowing and they will do the bare minimum to maintain or increase the money flow.

The investment by an aggressive and well led asian corporation such as SoftBank can only be seen as a good thing. There is a huge difference in mentality between us "Americans" and westerners vs those in Asia.
Whereas most American / Western investors demand and want their investments to be maximized in the least amount of time, Asian corporations tend to look at what they can sacrifice now for the benefit of tomorrow.
SoftBank is a telecom corporation that went from 700K subscribers to over 2.7 million in a year by aggressively undercutting the other telecoms. They see how stagnated America telecoms are and they see it as a perfect opportunity to shake things up.They're investing in sprint via buying 75% (?) of Sprints stock because they see the future of american telecoms and see that out of them, Sprint is the one that has an actual plan for success. A plan that is painful for many of us temporarily but will ensure that Sprints network will be one of the better ones - if not the best for the future.
They agree with what Dan hesse has been doing and want to be part of it. They're looking at the future and not the present as most of us are and THAT is why Asian corporations have been able to undercut and outdo American and western corporations. They look 2 steps ahead of us. Whereas we look at the next quarters, the next year. They look at the next year, 5 years, 10 years.
This can only be a good thing for us.

Not an in depth article but mirrors the sentiment that it's good news. 19%, while modest to some, is a good sign.

Off/on topic. Lil lady works for sprint and there is zero talk about this at her work. You'd think with 500 plus people, contractors included, they would be asking questions around the "water cooler".
But nothing.
I've been in "purchases". From Southwestern Bell to SBC to Att. Just nothing is odd to me.

According to Merrill Lynch analyst Scott Craig, “speculation is heightening” that Deutsche Telekom will announce the imminent arrival of the iPhone for its company’s US unit during next week’s analyst day meetings. The meetings, scheduled for December 6th and 7th would be an unusual place for such an announcement given that Apple likes to be involved with high-profile launches. However, the iPhone’s launch on smaller, regional players has also been without the usual Apple fanfare so there is some precedence for the opposite to be true.
The arrival of the iPhone on T-Mobile would give Apple access to 98% of the nations post-paid wireless subscribers with an additional 33 million potential customers.
We’ve seen plenty of analyst statements pop up speculating on the iPhone’s arrival on T-Mobile, but few analyst comments have been so specific with a time and date. It’ll be interesting to see how this one plays out.

More power to them. This will allow them to gain more customers by appealing to a wider base and will result for them to put more pressure on their LTE network. Tmobiles still in this race. Before I feared they might die out.
T-Mobile has the best and cheapest plans in my opinion. The only thing really lacking is the quality of their network overall. Which is hopefully going to change soon

Hopefully they're planning on revamping their network so all the iSheep don't bog it down when they switch from other carriers to save money. I forsee Tmobile raising their prices if they get the iphone.

I agree. If T-mobile raises their prices, then I will definitely be switching to Att or Verizon. T-mobile's network is by far the worst in upstate NY, but their prices are what kept me interested. Let's hope this is only a rumor....
My co-worker has an iPhone 4S, told me his boss is getting iPhone 5s for his whole team and he's so bummed because he wanted an S3 instead but the boss will prol. say no since they just got the 5s...
He's jealous of my: bigger screen, Swype keyboard (Android 4.2 KB at the moment), MUCH better battery life, nice rounded back with the Fosmon TPU case is sweet (I don't even worry anymore when I drop my phone)...
Hehe, he gets mad whenever I show him something new on my S3 like the 4.2 Sphere camera or I show him how I'm still at 60% battery at the end of the day without bothering to plug it in for a little more juice every time I sit down at my desk.
So, yea, I want an iPhone 5 - but only as a second phone so that I can know iOS well when I need to support a client w/an iPhone, not as my "DD" #1 phone 'cause that's gonna stay Android (or some other flavor of Linux type OS that's not closed up by Apple).
Who cares about an I phone... My sister just got one on att, played around with it... And I cannot see my self using an I phone lol no way in hell.

"IF" this does happen could you imagine the amount of iphone users that will be switching from 2g/3g coverage over to the network. Let along T-mobile claims that they already have more than a million iphones now. I think it will pull our network down significantly.

the second part of this, will happen inevitably. more traffic = more people using data = required network expansion = higher MRC for their customers
honestly, there WILL be a day when people are treated by carriers much like banks treat people who take out loans on houses, etc... the reason? it becomes a necessity by consumers - a required aspect of your daily routine. what are you going to do? start sending hand written letters? no. you will use the most convenient resource you have.
let's see if i can muster up an analogy here that would help get my point across regarding where mobile technology is headed:
Banks: own your house if you have a loan. have you by the balls, literally. you pay it, or you live outside. houses, are a necessity.
who are the ONLY people not being manhandled by the banks? people that already have it paid off. typically older people who are settled down.
Phone companies: own your cell phone service. have you by the balls. you pay it, or you no longer have it. cell phones, mobile technology, mobile networks - quickly becoming a way of life. you are looked at like you are a freak if you do not access internet on the go. who are the ONLY people that are not going to be manhandled by carriers in 10 years? when your desktop, laptop, etc... is now obsolete? the people who are on OLD ASS PHONE PLANS with unlimited call/text/DATAAAA.....
look at the average size of android app from 2009 to now, OS gets bigger, apps get bigger, network capacity has a need to be maximized. who will pay for that? people on t mobile's pay as you go plans? no. people who are getting SUCKED into "service agreements"....
want to be smart and prepare for doomsday? in a way that is comparable to the housing market plummeting? get on an unlimited call, text, and 4g plan now. and never buy another phone from a t mobile store ever again.
you will be one of those folks sitting in their nice pretty little classic looking cottage, all paid off, and you will be paying 79.99 a month for such service when others are paying 150...
just sayin.

I like the iphone. There I said it :0
I like ios because it is very well designed and visually appealing. Most of the apps are more visually appealing than android apps.
I also like android for what I can do with it. I can make it look visually appealing, but most of the apps on the market are still hideous. I'm just waiting on android to catch up to apple and have the same sort of guidelines apple has to make apps look sort of decent.
Like some others in this thread said: More power to them.
For me though, I made the choice to dump them and abandon my iPhone, I just hope that T-Mobile prepares their network accordingly BEFORE the flock arrives.
Probably just taking advantage of the fact that Apple is now selling unlocked iphones in usa now.

LOL this is funny and very believable. im starting to look at my old G2x and thinking "well looks like its going to be me and you old friend til the end"! lol. I refuse to pay more!
Even if T-Mobile does get the iphone I don't forsee a large increase if any. T-Mobile is not in any position to raise prices being 4 in line. I just hope the network doesnt getting bogged down although that is a reality. T-Mobile may not have the coverage of Verizon/AT&T but they have pretty fast data if you are in theie general 3/hapsa+ network.

Although this is not directly related to the s3, it has nothing to do with the development of the iphone. It's more so news about Tmobile and the Tmobile network, which the s3 runs on, so in turn can be affected.

Doubt it. T-Mobile recently said they don't offer the iPhone because it would cost them money due to Apples terms.

I consider myself a pretty run of the mill user. I don't tether data, have no need to. I've been with T-Mobile for a long time. And using iPhones.
AT&T with its new shared data plan is very comparable price wise, especially with multiple family lines.
Our 4 line T-Mobile plan can now be had on AT&T for about the same money.
My point? It might be to little to late for T-Mobile to be bringing the iPhone.....now.
