[Q] problem with gps in htc Wildfire - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello i have a problem with mi gps when i installed cyanogenmod7.1.0RC1 now the gps doesnt work at all.... not even looking out the GPS network icon. if someoane knows how to fix this i would apreciate this!!!
ROM: CyanogenMod 7.0.1RC1 with android 2.3.4
kernel version: 2.6.35.13-nfinity
Radio: 3.35.20.10
HBOOT 6.01.1002
S-OFF
and no partitions in SD card

Try reflashing radio and kernal only, not rom, if it doesnt help you may have to reflash rom.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App

Flash back to the last ROM that had a functional GPS (I had to go back to the original). Turn on GPS, use Google maps to fix your location, leave the GPS on. Flash back to Cyanogen and it should be fine.

or install latest ROM (7.1.0.1 stable) from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297764

Reflashing radio should work. It worked for me.

where can i get the radio?

http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Wildfire:_Support_Downloads

thanks! but im new in all this stuff jeje wich version do you recomend me to use???

One version newer then the one you have now.

thanks!!!! just that the radio version of my cell is the newest version so i will try to re flash it

just that the version that i have is the newest i will tray to reflash the radio

That shouldn't help at all, if you were able to use the SIM card and place a call you've already flashed it correctly. The solution posted here by user bricksrheavy should work, there have been a LOT of similar threads about this already with the same answer.

well reflashing the radio didnt worked... it says textually:
Amend scripting (update-script) is
no longer supported.
amend scripting was deprecated by google in android 1.5.
it was necessary to remove it when
upgrading to the clockworkmod 3.0
gingerbreade based recovery
please switch to edify scripting(
updater-script and update-binary)
to create working update zip packages
installation aborted
and i didnt save the rom that have the gps working correctly

right lets get this straight once and for all...... lol
reflashing the radio is the easiest way to solve no gps ( fact )
just reflash the newer version (even if you already have it )
download and put it onto your sdcard,
the script error your getting is explained cleary in the log you have posted...your cwm recovery is 3 or higher so the easiest method for you is to use rom manager and install cwm then flash temp 2.5.0.7 by scroling down to the bottom option in rom manager and choosing 2.5.0.7 then reboot into recovery from rom manager and then choosing zip to install find the radio zip and flash it,when done reboot phone from reboot option.
your phone might boot 2 times during the process so dont panic and let it run its course. test gps with E.G- google maps.
now if by some chance your gps still fails then repeat method but use older radio this time and test gps again and if its working then you can reflash the new radio and gps will be fixed.

you must have an earlier recovery versione than 3.0 to install this radio..probably u have a newest version like 3.0 or 5.2

thanks!!!! everyone!! it worked!!!!!

A great tool to test GPS with btw, is GPS test.
This is what it might look like indoors:

What kernel to fix wi-fi issue?

Hi,
I tried to root my friend's Desire and on 1 day, we had all the problems there could have been with the rooting process, including all kind of bootloops, wrong wipes, using wrong sdk-kit, usb brick, usb-unbrick etc etc... It's just like an season of 24 where all s*** can occur on 1 day
Now, we finally got the usb unbricked again and just went into recovery, flashing MCR3.1 with the online kitchen. Flashing the MCR3.1 went well, but there's 1 probem: the Wifi was broken. It didn't work with the MCR3.1. I remember having the problem too, and I read that it was due to a kernel-problem. So I downloaded the custom kernel: http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...for-htc-desire/ and my Wifi was fixed again.
BUT I tried the same at my friend's Desire, downloading the same kernel, but once booting, I got stuck at the HTC Logo, the one without the 'quietly brilliant'-slogan... I restored the nandroid backup and could boot again, but again, no wifi enabled. Then I tried to flash the same zip on my phone, and my wifi DOES work with that rom. So there's nothing wrong with the rom.
I went to compare the software versions, and the only thing that differs is the kernel, which should be the reason why his wifi is broken:
his desire:

So, the solution is to flash a compatible kernel, but like i said before, the one from modaco: http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...for-htc-desire/
doesn't work, the phone just hangs at the htc logo... What's wrong...? And I thought the custom kernel was included into the 3.1 rom?

Ok, if you've been messing around flashing kernels then that's why wifi isn't working. Your kernel and your wifi driver bcm4329.ko need to be from the same kernel build. you can't replace one and not the other.
I would suggest reflashing a complete ROM again.

I don't understand because I did not mess around with kernels. The only time I tried to install a new kernel was AFTER wifi was broken. But flashing that other kernel causes the desire not to boot anymore...
And the rom I installed on that desire is exactly the same rom as mine now on my desire. And with that rom, I have the broken wifi on his desire, but not on mine.
Do you suggest me to flash a COMPLETE MCR3.1-rom again instead of a custom one with the kitchen? Because in the complete one, the kernel is included?
bump
please someone help
you sure your doing a full wipe? also check the HBOOT on both desires...
I think you should consider flashing back to stock ROM as that will give you the stock kernel too.

anyone???........
flash clockworks latest recovery instead. can be found in a zip file to flash or can be found in the newest version of unrevoked. the recovery developer has a full list on his site which im sure you can find if you search for it and you can flash that.
once you flash that do a full wipe of the system from the recovery menu. and flash any zip. it should work.
Could be that those roms use a2sd+ and you will need a ext3 partition to use them. Have a search on here to find how to partition your sd card.
a2SD+ is optional.
for it to work you need an ext2/3/4 partition on your sd card depending on what rom you are using. i think a full wipe should do the trick. im just trying to get the user to update to the latest recovery image.
Edit: P.S. in wrong section of forum. dont mind helping but it should be posted in Q & A.
I got the same problem but mine is crazy reboots on non sense roms.
I think it's the kernel that's not stable on some handsets.

Where to start with W-S on Metro?

So my gf just got this phone on metropcs. I'm just wondering which roms and kernels apply to her specific device once I root and s-off it. I'm well versed in flashing roms and whatnot. I've got myself an epic 4g on cm7 with mtd partition mapping. Just wanna know if ill have to do anything with QPST or anything else. So any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance!

Is the phone gsm or cdma?
Because you have much less options if it's cdma
I own the exact same phone. I'll help ya out.
First, your gonna want to head over to HTCDev.com and unlock the bootloader. Then, head over to here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074445
and download the MetroPCS RUU and flash it through Windows. (Make sure drivers for the phone are installed!)
Once you get the RUU up and running, head over here:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?832o9otiu6713m8
and download insink71's custom MetroPCS ROM. (Has a2sd support, and is rooted!)
Afterwords, you can install a custom kernel to overclock. I reccommend Mindh4x8rs OC kernel.
You MUST flash the RUU before you can install insink's custom ROM! Hboot MUST be updated to 1.10.0000 for the ROM to play nicely, and the only way to update hboot is through the RUU.

I have the Metro PCS version of the WFS too and I am having some issues with rooting the phone. I am at HTCDEV website looking for the ruu for my phone. The ruu on the site is called 'Metro PSC'. I have my phone connected to my computer and I ran the Metro PSC ruu and I get the model ID number error. Can someone please advise me on what I am doing wrong?

[Q] Defy is dead

I had a lot of issues this last days. I had Miui 2.3.7c froyo and I tried to free my defy from vodafone with this tutorial. Didn't work properly (probably my fault) and it brick my cell.
Trying lots of stuff I finaly booted it flashing to 2.3.6 (GB DEFY+). Everything was bugged and I tried to flash back to froyo, the only thing I could do was flashing to chinesse froyo rom with RSDLite.
Then the cell was working properly, but it was a horrible rom. So I flashed to CM9 ICS, it looked great. Unfortunately, my pc couldnt find my device while connected by USB, neither Wifi were working. I tried to free from vodafone flashing "ICS_Defy_softunlock_v1.3(EPU_U_00.59.01).zip" but didnt work.
Tired of making it worse for each time I try to fix it, I flashed to my original ROM (Vodafone 3.4.2) that totaly kill my cell.
Now I can only use bootloader (no recovery). All I want is to free my DEFY.
As you have seen, I'm not good at this things. All help will be appreciate
EDIT: now I've flash again to chinese rom, at least works.
With China ROM... restore nAndroid backup of ur stock rom and u should be good...

China recovery doesnt have that option (only wipe data, wipe cache and install update), I'll try installing 2ndinit.
Edit: Installed 2ndinit, dont have any option tu restore nAndroid backup from Custom Recovery (from 2ndinit).
Here a pic of the china recovery

I'm already in custom recovery, but nAndroid backup can only be done from Stock (not sure).
I've research and I think that installing Clockworkmod recovery will let me do nAndroid backup.
Help is appreciated, I'm noob at this.
I supose theres no way to go back to Vodafone 3.4.2. But I tried everything.
This are my choices:
Chinese Rom -> no google accounts(no market), no internet (only wifi), annoying sounds and interface.
Flashing to custom roms from chinese froyo (tried CM7 and CM9) -> no internet, no USB connection.
Upgrading to 2.3.6 -> no camera, no wifi (I have green len).
Flashing to custom roms from 2.3.6 -> no camera, no wifi, constant blocks.
What can I do? I only want a full working rom...
Best option is CM7 then. If you do it right you will have WIFI. probably forgot to wipe data/cache.
To get the best results: root, download cm7 (7.2.0rc cause it has latest kernel in it) and place on your sd, instal 2nt init (apk is in dev thread), reboot, power off, power on, press volume down when the led flashes, recovery > custom or latest (not stock). Then wipe data and cache from there, instal zip > the zip you downloaded earlier.
Reboot and off you go.

All roms work with philz 6 but if you want latest AOSP based rom like CM11 or other you need the latest Philz to not geting any error. And the latest work with the Sense based roms to. You know the rules here I can't recomend ROM try them all and take decision lastest AOSP is JB4.4.4 other sense is 4.2.2 it is your decision and don't forget to make nandroid backup before install new rom
Thanks for all your help Thant, managed to get Beanstalk up and running with a backup
Cheers for your patience
