Simply I want an efficient physics engine that supports WP7 XNA and to have good tutorials/documentation to start from.
I have been trying to use farseer engine, but the documentation sucks big time, and it doesn't support mango (something about different refresh levels)
Try the one that Angry Birds uses. It's open source. Check the 'credits' of their app. It's toward the bottom.
Thanks man, it's called Box2D and it's free, open source, and has tons of documentation
As far as i know, farseer physics is a port of the box 2d engine, so some concepts should be quite similar.
I thik, it's best to checkout the source form the svn repository on the farseer page and try the samples to start with.
Search for "Making your own WP7 Angry Birds" for a nice farseer physics tutorial.
(currently i am not allowed to post links, so you have so copy this to google by yourself )
Yeah, Got the tutorial of making your own angry birds .... it's awesome
I hope I have time one day to read it out
thanks man.

As per title,
Having never writting apps before, I thought I'd have a go at downloading Expression studio (mainly due to it being free for students )
Seems pretty easy to get the hang of and these tutorial videos to follow are pretty handy http://microsoft.com/design/toolbox, it would be nice to maybe have a section of the forum for developing apps in Silverlight
Espescially seeing as deploying apps directly to your phone in Visual Studio seems to be the only way to side load apps at the moment.
This is the right section, as soon as I can make clear that this section is not intended for general chat but actual software development questions
ok so, pulling the silverlight and xna libraries out of the emulator and cooking them into wm6.5.5 i now need a way to test if these libraries are valid.
anyone interested in compiling a simple test for these? it seems the xna game, input and core libraries are there as well as silverlight browser and ui stuff.
very interested to see how valid these libraries are if at all

Ha love this way of thinking, how to get new stuff running on old stuff.
Reminds me of this big community i have heard of.
Sorry dude but I'm very sure this won't work.
First up, the files have dependencies (namely CE7 and other core files must use the CE7 API). You can't get around this without source code.
Secondly, the files from the emulator have ARM headers but use x86 code, as far as I know.
Thanks!!
You can find a whole bunch of silverlight projects to download here http://silverlight.net/community/samples/silverlight-samples/

thinking without restricted boundaries, it may not work and i may be waaay off, but then again....it may just work lol and if not i've lost nothing.
the silverlight causes issues and i am sure there is more to xna than just the framework dll's. will be interesting to try and call functions within them and see what happens either way.
Hopefully this is the right forum, and hopefully im not breaking any rules by posting this here!
Im looking for artist(s) for a game I am working on in Silverlight. It is a cross platform Windows Phone 7 and PC rts style game. Kinda crossed between Civilisation and C&C i guess. It is post-apocolyptic isometrical style, a bit like fallout i guess (BUT NOTHING LIKE FALLOUT LAWYERS! ;D).
I am in desperate need for artists as my art skills are really poor. I am coding the game and have a couple of people working on tech trees/balancing etc. The game is still in a resonably early state, although it is playable multiplayer already via web.
Id love to show you what I have, however I have not added the security layer yet so its currently still running on my local apache server
At the moment I have not begun the WP7 version, but i have tested what i have and it works, however it is not built for the aspect ratio yet, so until graphics are organised that part won't happen.
If anyone is interested, please let me know via this thread or PM.
Thanks for reading
Id like to help you out with graphics, what kind of scale would you be wanting for your game? detailed graphics skinning? more details the better and what kind of dedication to time.
Rosco
Hi Rosco.
Thanks for your reply!
We are not looking for a great deal of time dedication, although i guess it depends how quickly you can draw etc We also have day jobs so progress is not super fast, although it is moving each day.
The game is all 2D and the art can really be split into 3 sections:
1) UI. Menu graphics, login boxes, buttons etc
2) Building and Units. These are very simply animated (only a few frames) and in isometric view
3) Terrain graphics. These are really textures with dusty tracks, broken roads, sandy deserts etc
We have just recruited another artist and have not really assigned tasks or decided the art direction yet. While I am still coding the game, we are also working on our documentation so we can have a clearer idea of the art direction.
Id like to see some things you have done in the past if possible and id be happy to chat to you over msn or somewhere so you can get a better understanding of what we are trying to achieve and what our goals are.
I would be interested in helping you with graphics. Just let me know if you still need me.
Thanks for the reply, ive sent you a PM
Ok, i guess i'll put one selfish bump in here as we are still looking for artists I had a couple of replies, but no replies to PMs. So let me know if anyone is interested. The project has continued to move forward code wise, but the graphics are still sucky
i would like to help creating the menu graphics.
Hi HD2Owner, i dropped you a PM, thanks!
HI, I am new, this is my first real post so if this is posted in the wrong area sorry.
SO, I was working with a zune developer on an RTS and I had a large amount of art done for it. He got overwhelmed with the project and so I am looking for someone who thinks they can tackle an RTS. I have all gesture commands and ui layed out as well as basic unit properties. I have about a dozen fully animated sprite units and about 6 buildings complete so far.
If you think you are upto the challenge OR have a solid game that you would like some killer art done for let me know. BUT, I want to see it is some app store, I dont want to waste my time with a fizzled project.
If you want to use sprites I have already made thats cool, I would only request a cut when the game goes on an app store.
Very nice sprites, and the game looks good so far. Were you able to keep the source or do you plan on starting from scratch?
all info pertaining to the game can be found here.
I think the game is open source as others have dived into it. I know pathing was a difficult problem and did not have much of a solution. the project was for the zuneHD.
I will move this to SW development since this is an ongoing project, once you have a close to finished, or finished product PM me and I will move it back. IE Beta. .
~~Tito~~
Hey I'm a programmer looking for an artist to work with on various projects. I currently focus on Android development however I do have some experience with XNA / C# before (made a little tilemap engine on it and whatnot). I also just got my Samsung Focus registered on my developer account and have compiled a test sample on it just 2 days ago. I am really excited about Windows Phone 7.
I ALSO plan on making a fully crossplatform RTS at some point for iOS / Android / WP7 and I may be able to get started now. However, I would definitely want to sell it and keep it closed source / proprietary. Making an RTS is a HUGE task however, and will need a lot of planning and thinking ahead.
If you're in USA that's an extra bonus. If you have MSN Messenger that's another bonus. PM me if you're interested in working together on various projects.
There's a current "small" and cross-platform 2d game project I'm working on that I don't want to disclose publicly atm and we can discuss that if you have any interest in that, but I guarantee you I would love to make an RTS in the near future but merely lack an artist and an idea .
In my signature you can see all the devices I own for testing on. I am very inclusive, I love all smartphones.
I also do some music, I can show you some samples if you are interested in going further in regards to this.
Raptor550, I've sent you a PM, could you check please?
P.S. Seems like by default the PM notifications are disabled here.
I read the requests/ideas thread, and saw an Idea for a GBA emulator. I looked around the internet and found a C#/DirectX GBA emulator. I downloaded the source and began to copy/paste the code to an XNA WP7.0 Game. Most of the Code ported(ARM System Emulation, Opcodes, etc), but Audio and Graphics are bothersome because of the managed API differences between XNA and MDX, If someone wants to look at the code, I've uploaded it. I am not that great with programming, so if anyone can figure out how to change the API from the MDX to XNA equivalent, I give great thanks.
http://www.forwardcoding.com/projects/gbaemu.html Here is the page for the original pc project.
P.S: i used VS2010
I wonder if looking at the xbox360 gba emulator may be of some help?
Wish I had more coding skills to help

Hey dont worry There is already a gameboy emulator that is .XAP format its not out yet but I am on the team (It's just me and Samuel now XD) that is working on it. I cant post the .XAP yet but I can show you this http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/1320/wj7ia.png it should be out in the next couple of days if all goes well . I will post it on here so be sure check back soon
You guys are awesome! I've been wanting to do a GBA emulator for WP7, but I have practically NIL XNA background. I've also been preparing to hack together some managed code from the android emus and port to a suitable WP7 build.
sweet..... I guess I don't have to worry.....
P.S: how do you add roms?
P.P.S: does it do GBA or just GB???
thank you for this great work
Just a friendly reminder: This is not legal in most countries, incl. the US.
Well emulators themselves are not illegal, if you own the game yourself, why shouldn't you be able to use an emulator to play them?
On the other hand making a full speed GBA emulator on WP7 would be quite the feat considering everything has to be done in managed code.

yes, yes it would.... On the same note, I would love to know how they buffered the video inwarios jewels so I could rewrite the video subsystem on the emulator that Im trying to port. and also how they load the games..., because trying to load from internal isn't working atm.

I'm guessing they're just using the Texture2D.SetData function to update a texture from a video buffer. Haven't really found something like WritableBitmap that silverlight has and SetData is said to be pretty slow.
As for loading roms, you either have to load it from the project itself using the TitleContainer class or you have to download the rom from a service or url.
):
The facebook page for WJ7 shows that he was testing GBA functionality, but that the framerate was horrible because of the sandboxing. Without hardware level access, it seems for now GBA isn't playable.
hello forum people, well basically it’s like the Tittle says, I am currently developing a application that can save GeoLocations, then view them in augmented reality, it’s a school project and i wanted to see if someone else had developed something similar With "Windows phone 7" I’ve been searching allot of examples and stuff to get the main idea, but still not much luck, there are lots of good Android apps (like the ones I’d like to find) to guide myself in developing this app.
Project description.
-Must save geolocations with a desktop application developed in C# with visual Studio 2010.
-Augmented Reality app developed with Visual Studio (WP7), must display the text in the Geolocation with a short description.
little example.
Save a geolocation of a building, in that building there will be a meeting at 8:00 PM, the augmented reality app must show the building, the distance in Meters and the meeting description.
If someone knows of a similar project, or likes the idea post your comments, this is mainly for help, I am a bit stuck in my developing.
Actually I’ve been just testing different types of augmented reality apps and codes.
What about Nokia City Lens?
I cant try this app yet, because in mexico is not yet released. but could be a good Example, cant view the code thou.. =(

I'm from Mexico, you can "suscribe" to Nokia Beta Labs (betalabs.nokia.com) and you can get the app.
Sorry if you want some code, it is a Nokia closed project.

I can refer you to a little app that the company i am working with, ARLab, developed thanks to our SDKs, it's called ARPicBrowser. It's a bit similar to what you're talking about. It's not the same but it could bring you some insight. It is also open source, which is why i thought it would help you out. Here you can access the source code. By the way, if you're interested in augmented reality development you can check out our SDKs. You might find them useful.
Thanks!
Right now im at school, with the school Desktop PCs I can't test the code, but when i arrived home i will check on this, Thank you.
I just glanced the links you posted, is this only available to IOS & Android? no WP7 support?

Well, this is indeed an android forum XD but in any case, we do not have WP7 support now. It is in our roadmap but we don't have neither a release date nor anything too well planned about it as yet. Sorry

Thanks anyway =).
