[Q] Warranty - Defy General

Hey.
My defy's earpiece just stopped working. So i think it's broken.
So If I send my defy to warranty service, do I have to delete all apps which enables ROOT, and unroot my defy?
Please quick anwers!

You have to unroot but before that u can make a titanium backup of the apps u have installed and then uninstall all the root apps including titanium backup....after u get the earpiece replaced root again and install titanium backup and restore the apps that u have backed up

Now I have been deleted all apps which needs root. And I have already titanium backup done. But I have one problem. I had 2nd init bootmenu, and as I think you know how it works. When turn power on theres blue notification light. It's still there even I have uninstall that bootmenu? And should I factory reset my defy before send it to warranty sevice?
Send from my ultimate Defy.

Orrr.... you can simply flash a stock 2.2 rom and send it to repairs, you'll only lose root capabilities and your apps and settings will remain as they were.
Edit: Since youve already deleted all apps its better to just give it a clean wipe.

So, you mean now unroot and then factory reset? ( I mean that facroreset which can do in phones normal settings)
Send from my ultimate Defy.

Its better to use the stock recovery.

If you want assurance, flash a stock rom. Of course before that you'll have to do a full wipe using stock recovery. After flashing you'll have a nice clean and new stock rom. You may want to install a few apps and register your google accounts (and Facebook too!), just so it wouldn't look suspicious. (~_~)

Im gonna just unroot now, and then factory reset. And do something that phone looks like normal

Will this work?
You can simply do it manually using Root Explorer. delete followings AS ROOT USER and reboot. that's all!
1. /data/data/com.noshufou.android.su
2. /system/app/superuser.apk
3. /system/bin/su & busybox

I was stupid and rooted with z4root, and it didin't delete superuser or root files.
So can I now do this:
I Temporary root using latest z4root 1.3.0
II Delete these:
1. /data/data/com.noshufou.android.su
2. /system/app/superuser.apk
3. /system/bin/su & busybox
III Reboot. Im not rooted and root files is gone.

Install free apps from Market, and overload the phone with battery-consuming apps and things like Widgets.
Now it should be a 'normal' phone.

At least you guys have the option of sending your phone in for repairs and stuff. I've been using my phone on speaker or with a headset for 6 months cuz there are no Motorola centers in my country.

Just uninstall the superuser app and then it's gone!
I think you can also open 2nd init and delete the recovery menu there. After that your phone looks absolutely normal (and it actually is).
I'm not sure if you really loose your warranty if your phone is rooted, maybe it's just said to keep you away from rooting your devices. I've heard (my own Defy has never been broken) that your Defy will still be replaced (also, the earpiece isn't broken because the phone is rooted...) or the root isn't even noticed.

Hm, I see.
But it might already be enough to use any alternative launcher (if you aren't already) which is able to hide apps from the app drawer, then it probably would not be noticed by someone.
I assume the boys at the warranty center (or whatever place your broken defy will go to) have had many broken earpieces before and will not check everything of your Defy but just replace it.

Just flash a Stock SBF.
And send it with no apps and without info/SD Card.
It wont look suspicious, NO ONE should send a phone to a repair center with their information, google accounts all personal things in there.

You can replace it yourself using thishttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12094566 Replaced the earpiece on my wifes Defy for $5. Took 6 days for the part to get here and 15 minutes to replace.

Well deleting them should have worked. And can you get into recovery?
I would unroot and figure out how to root and everything involved with rooting. Then, I would flash a ROM that has the sprint bloat out of it.
Also, there is a list of "safe to remove" apps out on this site somewhere. You may want to find it and keep a hold of it.
With Titanium, just freeze the app, you don't have to uninstall it
then drink
Havent tried to get to recovery. I was told I could delete them with titanium backup??

You can delete them with Titanium. Go into menu > preferences and enable Chuck Norris mode. That should do it for ya.
Why would u pay someone to root ur phone bro. Its so easy. That Guy ripped u off and u should get ur money back. Plus sounds like he did it wrong.
I just wasn't comfortable doing it myself, I paid $20.00 and that's not even a month of free wireless teather so that's ok. I just want to delete NASCAR and Facebook and a few others.
If I where u I would just install another sense rom cause that have more features and faster

Did you try my suggestion?
First id check and make sure your phone is actually rooted.
Secondly I'd consider a sense Rom like mikfroyo or myns. My setup is in my sig. Mikfroyo has the bloat removed but also includes the apks if u want any of it back.
Last bit of advise...read about rooting, flashing, roms, kernels, etc. All the info is here. If your tech savy at all ill be doing it all urself with ease. If your not tech savy then either don't root or pay someone who knows how to do it right

if you do indeed have root, just download system app remover from the market. Be careful of removing apps that seem like they wouldn't be needed, you could mess your stuff up.
OP, sounds like you got ripped off, and paid someone $20 to do jack squat to your phone.
Download root checker from the market, it'll verify that you're rooted and have busybox installed. If you don't have busybox, I'm pretty sure you can get it through titanium backup or through the busybox app in the market. If you download busybox from the market, you still need to launch it - it's a busybox installer - and follow the prompts in the app.

Ok I downloaded un installer for root from the market and it has allowed me to delete. Chuck Boris was on on my titanium backup but I only had the free version maybe that's why it wouldn't work?
Arnezie,
shoot me a Private msg with your email and ill email u
Delete if you must, but there are risks with synching after doing so. Many of those apps you might find undesirable are integrated into Sense.
You would probably find backing your rooted stock ROM and then flashing a custom ROM that you like a safer choice.

[Q] Unroot a custom rom?

Hey All,
For Work I need to install the app Good for Enterprise so I can get my calendar and work email pushed to my phone. Unfortunately it is company policy that it be unrooted. Presumeably a security issue. Is it possible to unroot a custom rom? i'd rather not go back to stock for the simple reason of app storage. I love A2SD+ and being able to have as many apps as I want installed. Also nandroid backups, that would go away without root too wouldn;t it? Can I just remove the SU.apk? Will that suffice to be "unrooted"? Is that even possible?

If you want to unroot, you'll need to go back to stock.
The reason they want unrooted phones, is not so much a security issue, as it is they just don't understand or don't wish to deal with possible problems.
If you backup your apps and data you can run the official RUU, and it will put the original unrooted system to your phone. I don't know other method.
Here are the official ROMs: http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo
Removing the SU binaries will unroot you, I don't see the need as to why you have to be unrooted though.
apparently you can't use the new movie-rental feature of google's market, when you are rooted.
Is it possible to stick to a custom rom but unroot it, so that google recognises your phone as a not-rooted device and allows you to watch movies from market?
I don't need root-permissions every day - in fact I only need it for Titanium Backup, so deleting su-binaries and/or superuser.apk would be ok - but it must be possible to restore them (via recovery/adb) to run TB.
This probably isn't what google wants you to do since you can download the movie to watch later and if you have a working recovery you probably could get you hands on the downloaded files, but still - would be nice, if this was possible.
Easiest way to unroot and go back to stock is to stick a PB99IMG.zip on your sdcard, and turn your phone on with volume held down
How about this:
1) Go back to stock ROM via RUU
2) Install Good For Enterprise (I guess your IT department installs this, so they can check you are not rooted?)
3) ROOT the stock ROM using UnRevoked
4) Take a Titanium Backup of Good For Enterprise
5) Re-install your custom ROM
6) Restore the Titanium Backup of GfE
-> You have a rooted, custom ROM with GfE installed. And your company will never know!

Or why don't you just delete superuser via adb or android commander
good for enterprise checks for root access/ su every time it starts. It's not an issue of not being able to install the app. It's available for free on the market. The problem is when entering all your info and starting it up, it checks for SU.
I am guessing the best way around this is to install custom rom, set everything up that you need that requires SU/root. Then delete all the su/root related files. Then install Good.
Unfortunately I don't have a list of all the files that have to be deleted for this to work.
There have been reports that other users who have tried this method got it to work but the App stopped syncing after a few days.
List:
/system/app/superuser
/system/bin/su

wont work good enterprises would more than likely check every time like sky go. you would have to removed a2sd command line i think and all su binarys ( and su.akp ( difficult as its normally a system app and once one of the su has been removed you dont have premition to remove the other/
and to the donunt who said ( the dont understand root) wanna cookie 0. basicly good enterprise is a secure web client for companys to send information to mobiles, i have it on my work (iphone) <<<< scummmy.. anyways as root gives to the option to do what ever you or anyone else wants with the phone in theory you could use that system to breack the law or for instance chaindd could possible put an update in to su that will take data from the company> for google videos ) well with root you can screen record ( basicly ) excuse the spelling im trying to find out how to un root and keep all of my system ui mods and themes and my rom ( proving difficult)
hey I know that this is based on a old post but I have a question did you ever find out how to unroot a custom rom that is pre-rooted?

Good for Enterprise root

Hey all, I have the GOOD app for my corp email, and it now checks for root, and boots me everytime I try to install it. I had off and on problems with my Nexus S with that, but I figured it was on their end as it would work fine for a few weeks.
Anyway, I cannot get it to open with my rooted SGS3. I am stock ROM, just rooted. Do I have to live in a stock world now if I want work email on my phone (which I kinda have to have). No way to hide that from that app?
If I do, what is the best way to unroot without losing all my apps and data? I dont think I can use ti backup on a non-rooted phone.

Hey!
I was faced with the very same issues using Good for Enterprise. The workaround I've used is:
- flash Siyah Kernel (S3 1.7 RC1, i think)
- setup dual boot with a couple ROMs (PA and Omega in my case).
- remove root on one of the ROMs and reboot
- boot into the unrooted ROM and install Good from scratch (and not via Titanium)
- thank the developers who came up with these fantastic ROMs and kernels on a daily basis
Good luck! Pun intended .
The way we do it is through a script that disabled root - it essentially renames su items the app looks for.
We also had to change permissions to disabled on GOOD for RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED and READ_CALL_LOG
He then made two apk's in tasker that
A) Runs the disable root script and opens GOOD
B) Run the enable root script and opens SU as assurance that we have SU back
Now, there may be an easier way to run GOOD, but this works for us.
I'm running CM10. I believe he's running another JB rom.

[Q] dangers with rooting ouya

Hey,
So to a total newcomer to the whole rooting thing, i was wondering exactly what the dangers with rooting is? What does it open up to malware that wasnt there before?
When you jailbrake an i-device you for example hafto change the root password since its the same for all jailbroken devices after jailbrake.
Can someone break it down easy?
Many thanks!

Well there's a danger you can accidentally delete something you shouldn't have. You do have access to the file system after all.
Malware threats are overblown on platforms outside of Windows. Android and iOS malware still needs you to purposely install an apk/ipa. If not, they're usually sent through SMS/MMS, which the Ouya is incapable of. <_<'
Pretty much the only ways you can get malware is if you sideload it or if it somehow sneaks into the stores.
There's one specific exploit... but that doesn't affect the Ouya because:
1. It's not Samsung.
2. It doesn't have GSM/3G/HSDPA.

No such restriction exists on Android. My Ouya account is still usable after rooting (and it coexists with my Google account).

Root disappears if you factory reset, or there's a system update. So be prepared to reroot if there's an update. Keep the one click app handy! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387507

I haven't had the opportunity to test the superuser preserve function yet (I updated before rooting), so just in case be prepared to reapply your root.
Ouya isn't Sony, I don't think they'll be blocking root access anytime soon.

PS: you'll need root access to delete those. After you get rid of the play store stuff you can factory reset again and it shouldn't be back.
i ran the root apk and it says rooted, tried to delete the files with es file explorer but it wont delete the files... i even stoppped the process in the settings menu... is there another way i gotta go about?

E's file explorer should be able to do it, but I think you need to mount system/ as R/W because it doesn't do so automatically. http://androidcowboy.com/2013/06/how-to-uninstall-system-apps-with-es-file-explorer/
If the above doesn't work, you're missing the superuser app.
These days I just connect things to my computer via microusb and use adb shell to deal with the file system; I still need busybox for that.
puh, got it done.. missed the part that you gotta show root explorer on the left menu.. Holy sh*t im out of my league here =)
If i install the framework only will that leave bits and peaces to, or is it only playstore that does this? i saw that the framework had an uninstall / cleanup function in the app so im guessing that it takes care of itself?
If i disable root acces after installing the framwork will the framework still function or do it need to be rooted all the time?
Big thank you for the fast reply´s!

The framework needs root access.
The playstore mod is the only one that leaves bits and pieces AFAIK... next time before you factory reset, run the cleanup tools and uninstall the mod first. (Sorry I didn't warn you before. I forgot. >.<)
ahh, will do =)
Finnaly got it setup up right! Thx for all the support man!

[Q] Newbie who needs help

Hello everyone, I'm a new member to this site, and I've heard that this site is where i can go to get some answers to problems, that being said, i was hoping y'all can help me with a problem I'm having with my phone.
So I rooted my Sprint LG G2 phone (this is the first time I've ever rooted a phone), then i went to remove some unwanted apps off the phone, then I thought to test and see if I can go back to stock, and without even thinking about the removed apps that i could've restored, I did a factory reset on my phone, it boots up, and I'm still rooted, and the apps that I removed did not come back, so I went to this app call "superSU" and did a full unroot, after that, I restarted my phone, and I still notice that I have root apps installed like "G2 Xsposed, Xposed Installer, Unistall, and Root Browser, so I opened up "Root Checker", it says my device does not have root access, yet I still have G2 Xposed, as well as other root apps I have, so I'm hoping that I can get the apps that came with the phone back (apps like "Clock Widget, Weather Wiget, Music Wiget, Music, SVI settings"), and go back to when I first bought this phone. Is there any simple method I can do to fix these problems with y'all help, I would really appreiate it.
Here are snaphots.

Ok, how do you use that app?, and just in case if I want to root my phone again, what would be the smartest and at the same time the most simple way to do this so that I dont make these mistakes again?

titanium backup is gravy just open it give it root permissions and than you can go to the backup/restore tab and do either of those per app.
Ok, thanks ☺
