I am asking for help rooting the new tablet i got. I rooted my droid incredible and love it even more since. I want the same for the tablet. I have looked around for some answers but cant seem to find the anything to help me.
If you could also give me a good ROM to start off with I would greatly appreciate it.
I cant post the link however if you search the following you can find the one i bought to be clear
"M009 Google Android 2.2 7" Tablet PC Computer Netbook"
Key Features
Type Tablet PC
Display Size 7in (17.78 cm)
Hard Drive Capacity 2 GB
Operating System Android 2.2
Internet Connectivity Wi-Fi
I put a 8 gb micro sd card in.
I have the offical market app installed, however no super user access. Any advice would be appreciated.
Have you tried the usual rooting methods? Such as rageagainstthecage, Gingerbreak, Superoneclick, etc?
However, rooting won't do much on the way of custom ROM's, there would have to be an active dev community supporting that device. However, you will be able to get super user access, to freeze apps, etc.

Just came across this article while researching how to root my new HTC Desire (sweet phone!) ... is this still true and should I be concerned?
Also - has anyone got thoughts on the 'unrevoked' 'one-click-root'? - is it as safe as doing a more 'manual' method?
Well i have heard of several apps still storing passwords as plain text, so might still be a problem. This is also the case on unrooted phones though. The real problem here regarding root is, that apps, which you have given root access, can access those files which is normally available only to the actual app. So it is more a question of only allowing root to trusted apps, which you should always do anyways, as anything run with full access have the possibility to do major damage.
And regarding unrevoked, it should be as safe as rooting using pauls method, which only supports the old hboot versions by the way. There will always be a risk to it, but if you do everything right, it is very easy. The difference in the rooting methods is more the way they hack the recovery in order to let you flash unsigned or test-signed zip files. So just go with the latest unrevoked and make sure to install the drivers the right way first and you should be fine
Brilliant, thanks so much for the informative background, I will be rooting!
Read the OP too by Cory which has made me less worried - http://forum.androidcentral.com/hacking/35470-aware-clear-text-passwords-database-files.html
No problem I hope it helped you understanding.
Hey guys... plain and simple, I need help. I'm kind of a noob, but not really. I know a little bit here and there but I want to get good with my Evo, I mean really good! I'm currently browsing XDA in my car (Evolution X) tethered to my Evo 4G. Love Evo's. I'm also on a macbook pro, which makes a lot of the standard rooting options difficult for me, and i'm not running boot camp on my mac, so I don't have windows access.
Anyway, I want a foolproof, safe root. Currently I'm rooted with unrEVOked3. I hear not so great things, especially that full root might not have been attained. I want to confirm this and I don't know how. I don't want to be stuck with a root that might brick me in the future or give me problems down the road. I'm considering unrooting unrevoked and re-rooting with a more solid root method. I know that it doesn't matter the method as long as root is attained in the end but, from what i've read, a lot of people just don't agree with unrevoked method. I'm also concerned about the updates that unrevoked will provide when OTAs come out.
Here are my objectives...
1. Be familiar with the definitions and common terms root users use. For example, I want a clear understanding of recovery mode, HBOOT, bootloader, setcpu, kernels, etc. I know a little bit, but I don't feel comfortable enough to start messing around with flashing roms, changing kernels, etc. I want to be though.
2. I want to be able to flash roms.
3. I want full root and guaranteed SU permissions.
4. Wifi Tether.
5. ability and know how to overclock and underclock depending on the situation i'm in.
I know a lot of you guys will tell me to search and READ READ READ, but i've been doing this since I got me Evo about a month and a half ago. I rooted with unrEVOked3 because on my mac it was a simple download and click.
I downloaded the android-sdk-mac-86 download and I also have ECLIPSE for mac. I know these are app development programs, but will this help me with root and everything from there on?
Does anyone have a link to a site with definitions and explanations or is someone willing to take the time to explain to me these definitions and how they relate to android and effect the phone...
I appreciate you guys helping me. If you're going to tell me to use the search button or read the stickies, please save it, my laptop only has 3 hours of battery and i'm driving cross country and checking the forums while i'm riding shotgun.
Thanks in advance.
my 6th objective is to have all the apps i'll need to monitor and maintain my phone as best as i can.
I know about ROM manager, setcpu (don't have yet), Titanium Backup, and system info.
is there an app that allows me to browse ALL folders on the phone? currently I have ASTRO.

This might be a stupid question, because it might be a simple solution, so here it goes:
I've been reading for hours on end on how to root my AT&T Fusion by Huawei (U8652, Android Gingerbread 2.3.5), and I just happened to come across a discussion from another user from this site on his success story http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1494843.html.
I tried downloading unlockroot, but when I click on the installer, a dialogue box pops up and just says "Preparing Unlock Root... - please wait..." It has been doing this for over an hour and nothing to show for it.
Is there something I am doing wrong? Is there another way I can root my Fusion? The main reason I want to root it is because I have a 16GB SD card that isn't being used because most apps and data go onto my internal storage (which is a real pain in the arse). I just want to portion the SD. Is there another way I can do that without rooting, if it turns out that I cannot root?
Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Hey guys,
Im a recent android convert after having bought an iPhone on the first day it was available, and almost all revisions since. I bought my Note II just before Xmas and cannot believe how satisfied I am with the new OS and the hardware.
Now in the android world, I'm lookign to gain the full functionality of multi-view by rooting and installing CLEANRom. However after reading all the guides I still have a couple questions.
1) By using the root injected roms (Im on Rogers), will the phone be ready to accept CleanRom? Im just unclear if root injected methods allow a custom ROM to be installed without any issue. If not, is there an alternative or easier rooting method that will allow cleanrom to be installed?
2) finally, due to my noobness, Im just wondering if there exists a very clear guide (perhaps with a video or picture step by step) that uses as few acronyms as possible (im still getting the hang of the jargon) for first root injecting/rooting a note II/similar phone and also installing a custom ROM?
Also, as Im a mac user, any tips on being able to carry on this on a mac would be appreciated. As it stands, Im boot-camping windows XP using a virtualizing software with windows 7 to be able to do this.
Thanks in advance guys, looking forward to being a part of the community.
It sounds to me like you are looking for a "laymans terms" description on the physical mechanics of installing a custom ROM. Here is a link to a post where I gave the best instruction I could to install a custom ROM (in this example the jedi rom) for someone on att. Most of the steps will be exactly the same for Cleanrom and I think there will be seperate instructions for Rogers in the actual Cleanrom thread.

4th post in the thread I believe.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Thanks topshelf. That thread clarifies things big time.
as a fellow Mac user, you are pretty much going to be frustrated and pissed off when trying most Mac methods to root. I dual booted mine with Windows 7 just for the purpose of screwing around with my phone(s).
I don't know about root injection or whatever. I know I used Odin on Windows to flash a single .tar file and that gave me superuser, and my cleanrom 4.05
There are several ways to root and it seems there are different methods here and there. It is quite frustrating at first.
http://galaxynote2root.com/ is a good site and I believe it is the same guy that has made like 60 videos for the Note 2.
There are different Roms and people sometimes try different ones. I like the cleanroms by scott. Just search for scotts roms on google and it will take you to his site.
You will have to do a factory reset on your phone first. It will erase everything and bring it back to how you got it out of the box. Reset won't touch your external sdcard.
I don't know how anything works with virtual windows. You may also have to download Samsung drivers to get the computer to recognize your phone.
I’m new to this forum, and I’m new to android, with the minimum knowledge in developing or modifying anything in an android phone. So, I’m asking if someone has solution on my issue, should he please explain it with all the details.
I just bought 3 phones, SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 MINI VERIZON SCH-I435 - ANDROID VERSION IS 4.4.2 [maybe just 1 that I selected on the phone to update the software, and the others (I still didn’t opened it also no line on it) are maybe 4.2]; I need it for 3 employees that I want to use it with a specific program for my business that it not needed to be updated continuously, and its suppose to getting updated daily with a direct USB connection to our server.
My issue is, that for many reasons I want that the internet and any type of data connection should be fully disabled, no browser, no e-mail, no data apps, no in apps purchases, no MMS messaging, and also no video. Just Talk & Text and. So I’m wondering if it’s possible on an android phone to disable all data apps and block all data connections, in a way that it shouldn’t be able to restore it back.
Before I came here, someone told me that I can do it if I first root the phone (he also didn’t know what I need to do after rooting) he gave me to try a few programs to root the phone, Super User, TowelRoot, Kingo ROOT ,Super SU but as I see nothing worked for my phone. The SuperSU gives a message that it cannot find the SU binary, and the others don’t work for other reasons – I tried to search somewhat on the internet about this kind of problems with rooting this model phone, and I found some complicated guidance with a combination of a few downloads, what I even didn’t understand the instructions how to do it, and I’m also definitely afraid of damaging the phone, and maybe after all it will still not work for me to root the phone – and the main thing is that my goal is not rooting the phone, but to totally disable any internet and data connections from this phones.
So I’m asking if someone can please give me a step by step solution for this kind of modification on this model phones, to permanent disable all data connection from the phone, and if 1 of the steps is to root the phone, then I also need detailed information from someone who has the experience with rooting this model phone with this android version.
I will appreciate everyone’s time and effort to help me.
Thanks
P.S. if my issue can only be solved by a paid android developer, maybe… I’m willing to pay some amount to do this. So if u see this for the only solution, then please direct me to a reliable developer. depends on price, experience, and more, to decide if willing to pay

Hello, i think to achive this someone have to create a modified rom(maybe based on samsung's stock or even cyanogenMod). I dont think its pretty difficult, but i dont have the wright knowledge to accomplish this.
But i can help you for rooting the phones. S4 mini s running 4.4.2(lets call it v1). But samsung pushed an update again on 4.4.2 after some months(call it v2).The v1 is easy to update with towelroot.
But the v2's kernel cant be rooted with that way. I follow some instructions from a post here on xda and i rooted mine. If you are on v2 you have to flash v1's kernel with odin, root it and then flash the v2's kernel. That's the way i did to my phone and i successfully root it.
You can download from sammobile all the stuff you need(kernels). I think it will gonna work for you too. To check if you are on the old(v1) or on the new(v2) rom, try towelroot and if it fails you are on v2, else on v1.
Thanks.
First, how do i get such kind modified rom?
second, about rooting. I tried already Towelroot and its not working, so maybe this means that i have already the update that you call V2. how could i know if i have V1 or V2?
also can you please explain me in detail your solution. Sory Im a novice in the android language. what "odin"?, how do i get it, how do i use it?, what means flash? how do i flash v1's kernel? and how do i flash V2's kernel?
Thanks again

About the 'modified rom' you have to wait for a response from someone with the knowledge to do this. There is no reason talking about root from now.
You can pm some developers and ask for help.
Maybe try something like LBE Security think you can deny access to things like that and maybe have a master app password. Maybe try looking under Android development forum under software or general. You may get a better response to your question, as it's pretty much just a device topic here. But I would think on Android such things should be possible.
