Hello guys.
I've just tried to flash the cm7 Hboot but something went wrong and now when I turn on my HTC Desire, it is opening only the Alpharev Recovery (v2.5.1.8.used for the s-off) black screen with blue commands. I can also acceed to the fastboot and what I see is:
AlphaRev CM7 r2
BRAVO Pvt1 Ship s-off
Hboot-6.93.1002
.......
.......
radio-5.11.05.27
I try to explain what I did in case u need to know my mistakes
I've created a backup, wiped everything, installed the PB99IMG.zip from SD card (it took 1 second to do it...is it normal??) and I rebooted. Everything was fine when I turned my desire on. I had to set language etc. and I went to check on the Application options if the internal memory become bigger thanks to the cm7, but it was 180Mb as before (I think). So, I thought that it didn't work out and I entered again the fastboot. Here it asked me if I wanted to make an update...I did it and then I went to the recovery to restore my backup. From here on, everytime I switch on, it goes directly to the recovery screen. I tried to wipe alla gain and flash again the cm7, but I had always the same thing.
Another info...now, if i go to the fastboot and I select BootLoader: Hboot it ask me always for the update again....
What can I do?? Please Heeeeelp!
Thanks in advance!!
P.S. I don't have a microSd card reader and if I have to copy something on the sd (another rom or a ruu) I don't know how to do it as I cannot see the memory card from my pc when I connect it via usb and I am in recovery. Is there another way or should I run to some friend?
Which ROM are you using ? Rename PB99IMG.zip to something else or remove it. Download a proper ROM and flash using recovery
This was the first time that I flash something...so I think I have still the standard one.
I tried to install the cm7 because it is required to install the custom rom I wanted to try.
Never did before.
Now that I connect it via usb, I cannot access to the sd from the pc. Is there another way to modify or add something to my sd or I run to buy a minisd card reader?

You can access your SD card by enable it to USB from recovery, which recovery are you using ? Try to find it in the menu, should have something like "mount usb storage" under advance or storage option maybe

You can try non-sense (lol at this term) ROM first, did a backup then try other later. One that I tried very easy and stable is the Ginger Villain.

may have something to do with using rom manager. ive never used rom manager and never had this issue. download allmy roms from xda, transfer to my phone, then reboot to recovery and install myself. id say revert to a nandroid and if your phone csnt read your nandroid, used your companys ruu then reroot,re-s-off, repartition, then re nandroid. and from this point forward, use clockworkmod for everything or amonra. im quite sure using rom manager involves a procedure called "fake flash" which does have issues
@LINKSLOVESANDROID - i am a little noobish, can you explain it a litlle simpler?
He can't see the sdcard (therefore can't format from the phone) so i tried formating from the computer with sdcard reader. still nothing. I created a gold card long time a go, but desire can't see it too. My phone is otherwise woriking.
Its USB bricked I'm afraid..same as mine..still figuring what to do..

After you have completed the fix... You might have to try 'repairing' card - disk utility does this in 30 seconds
Or format then put all your info back on the card
just let me get this clear...
I need to:
Downgrade hboot in order to instal a ruu rom, and then root, s-off, unbrand all over again?
I have read some of the stuff about usb brick, but can the gold card help here?
Thanks BigMrB

First of all, go back into recovery and wipe everything in the wipe menu except the SD card and then flash a 'rooted' stock rom (whether ODEX or DE-ODEXED is irrelevant). A link is in my signature. If you can successfully flash a stock rom then it is safe to assume that your current rom is corrupted somehow. Also, what radios & kernel are you using with your current rom? Are they compatible?
i almost feel like when the rom tries to read the sd card it restart..... i did switch sd card same problem

If you are unable to install any other roms, then yes, back up the contents of your card and then, especially if your recovery is amonRA v2.3, re-partition it while in recovery. You should see 'Partition SD card' in the recovery's menu. You will be asked to set a size for the SWAP, ext2 and FAT. If you want to simply have use of the entire card as a FAT, enter 0 for the SWAP & the ext2 partition. If you have lots of 3rd party apps and you plan on installing a rom like Synergy or it's equivalent, you may want to set up an ext3 partition. If you plan to use a Synergy-like rom, I 'suggest' you set up an ext3 partition in this manner:
0 for SWAP
either 1024 or 2048 for the ext2
the rest for FAT and after the process is complete, select 'upgrade ext2 to ext3'. All of this is done from within recovery.
Afterwards, go to the wipe menu and wipe everything in it including the card. Then copy a freshly downloaded copy of the rom you want to use and then flash it.
i tried that.... now the sd card dont want to mount or format... and Synergy rom is doing the same thing it boots to the lock screen the reboots..
If it were me, at this point, I would run the RUU for your phone and then click on this link and follow my guide.

Baron, are you still S-OFF? If you are and if you don't think you need to re-flash your recovery, then I agree with HipKat that you need to flash the ruu. If your hboot version is 2.02/2. 10 then yes, flash the ruu with software 3.70.. If you have a Windows computer, you can download the exe version, connect your device to your pc and then run the exe. You can download either version from the link in my signature.

If the .exe version doesn't work, then give the PC36IMG version a try. I've used that one and it works well.

Yep. Make sure it's called PC36IMG.zip and when you boot to Hboot and it does it's scan and asks if you want to update, say yes.
Be ready to flash recovery right after that, btw, so you'll have to get the PC36IMG for recovery on your disk after Hboot Runs RUU. Just let it boot up, if it will and then try to connect to your computer, and swap out the PC36IMG's
i flashed the ruu then Amon_RA-supersonic-v2.3 recovery and it just does the same thing boots to look screen after a few secs it reboots. and sometimes it get stuck at a black screen and green blinking light.. then i have to pull the battery...

I'm dealing with a very very weird issue
Recently i flashed ICE beta 6 rom but it was slow and not good enough for daily driver, so I decided to restore latest nand backup from my last sense 2.3 rom
I did as usual. Reboot to recovery. Noticed that sdcard is recognized as 'null' but did not pay attention to it (which seems to be very stupid now)
I wiped all the partition and system and cache and factory reset etc... as usual
Then i chose restore but it said "error can't mount sdcard"
Tried to mount /sdcard but it said error
So i thought, ok we could try powering off and detach/attach the sdcard again
I powered it off, and now i can only enter Fastboot. Everytime when choosing BOOTLOADER, it enters but then i cannot use Vol up + Vol down + power to navigate through options. Have to pull the batt off to turn the whole thing off.
But when i remove the sdcard, the navigation buttons are MAGICALLY working again! But it does not make any sense because i need the sdcard to restore!!!!
So, any one, help me, please!!!
Very appreciated and thank you in advance!
Somebody helps me please!!!!!!!!!! Super urgent
Maybe your sd is messed up. Put the sd in a card reader and read it from pc. If u can, perform a backup. Then format the sd and see if u can enter recovery !
Or try a different sd card of you have one

I had an Inc for a while, I have moved on to a RAZR maxx. I haven't worked on an Inc for a while. My friend asked me to help her. She is totally stock. Low storage space warning. Factory reset , from ROM or hboot , leads to android with triangle/exclamation mark. I think she tried to update OTA and the download failed. She has 3mb free. Under "SD and phone storage" the internal phone storage lists the total and available space as "unavailable". When I try to go to recovery from hboot it sounds like a bad hard drive, not the phone vibing but a drive spinning up an stopping a couple of times. Any help or recommendations? Thanks.

You need to do an ruu thru hboot. Download this http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.08.605.15/PB31IMG.zip and place it on your sdcard in no folders. Boot to hboot and wait a few secs, hboot should find the file and prompt you to press vol up to install. That will ensure everything is there and not corrupt.
Then you will want to root the phone, and flash the ext4 no data limit mod, or flash a rom that its built into. That will solve the low space issue.
Fyi, these phones do not have hard drives with spinning disks like pc's. They use flash memory which is a chip, no moving parts.

I pm'd cm for help, but figured I would start a thread. I tried to do an ruu through hboot, but the file isn't recognized. I formatted the SD on my computer using SD formatter 3.1 and also formatted in the phone. I downloaded the file twice. I tried 2 sd cards. I have flashed radios and such in the past, so I am familiar with the process, and it is ignoring the file on the SD card. The phone boots up and seems to run okay, but I can't factory reset it. I know that it has flash memory, I was trying to make the point that it isn't "vibing", but it is making a slight buzz when recovery is selected. Any help is appreciated.

What hboot version doed the phone currently have. If its 1.02 or 1.07 you can try to use htcdev site to unlock it, then get a custom recovery on there. If you can accomplish that, then you can see if recovery will see the sdcard. If it can read it, you can wipe everything and flash a custom rom.

Hello evryone.I got the Desire today and I would very much like to do root on my phone.I'm a total novice about all this and I'd like to ask someone for help. When I go in the boot menu (volume down+power) i have this:
-Revolutionary
BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYN0101
RADIO-5.17.05.23
Aug 10 2010
HBOOT
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
Can someone suggest where to find a tutorial step by step how to do root on my phone because I'm a total beginner?
Thanks.
Well it looks like all the hard parts have been taken care of already. The rest is a piece of cake
Revolutionary was used to s-off, which probably means that you have a custom recovery install as well.
Use volume down while in the bootloader to scroll down to RECOVERY. Then use power to select it. When the recovery boots up you should have either cwm (clockworkmod) or 4ext recovery installed. Tell me which one you have so that i can give you some more guidance.
I'm afraid that nothing of what you have said I do not have. When I select a recovery nothing happens,On the next screen I see icon of phone on the middle of the screen and two circular arrow. One point down and another point up,and then red tringle with an exclamation point in the middle.I tried several times and always the same.Is this serious problem?

Then you need to flash a recovery. Either through fastboot, or through the PB99img method.
Fastboot implies installing fastboot, adb and hboot drivers on your PC, downloading the recovery.img, and then using the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img".
The PB99IMG.zip is a bit easier. Follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751258

Yep, thats pretty much correct. You go into the bootloader, wait a couple seconds and it should find the PB99IMG.zip that you placed on the root of your sdcard automatically. Then you press volume up to confirm the install, and then reboot. Go back into the bootloader and select recovery and you should now have 4ext recovery.
Forget about the fastboot command. That is just another method of installing 4ext, but its a bit more work. Since youre using the PB99IMG method you dont have to do this.
Once youre in recovery you have a few options:
Boring option- You can simply flash a root zip which will give you root access on the stock rom
Fun option- You can pick out a custom rom from the development section and flash it. Custom roms come prerooted, and have so many other advantages over stock. (Performance, a2sd for gaining more space for apps, battery life, customization, etc.)

Well anything over android 4+ wont run ideally on the desire.
My favorite stable rom is milwild's redux. You need to do a couple things before flashing to optimize your space usage. First create a 1GB ext4 partition using this guide. Then go here and download the PB99IMG_oxygenr2 zip. This is an hboot and will change the layout of the internal partition to maximize the amount of space for apps and app data. After youve downloaded it, rename it to PB99IMG.zip, and put it on the root of your sdcard. Then you go into the bootloader and install it the same way you did for 4ext. After that you go into 4ext, go to the wipe menu and choose "format all partitions (except sdcard)". Finally go to install zip from sdcard, select the rom i recommended above and flash it.
I have to admit that Gparted method for partitioning sd card somehow easiest for me.Again I have a few questions before I start my adventure installing milwild's redux ROM.

Doesnt matter where you put it on your sdcard. Once you go to the install menu, 4ext will allow you to browse the contents of your sdcard.

I did half the job, now the hard part remains.I installed 4EXT recovery and partitioned SD Card but not completely.I did everything like in the tutorial, but the internal memory is not increased. Here's a picture after finishing operations.
When I check the internal memory I have only 125MB.I repeated the operation three times, and the result is always the same.I Insert the CD with Gparted in the computer, boot and go to Gparted menu, delete SD Card and create first 6.4GB like fat32 primary partition. Then select second unalocated part of the SD card and create 1.1GB like ext4 primary partition.Complete operation and when i look into my SD card size is exactly same as in the Gparted (6.4GB) but internal memory is only 125MB.No idea what to do.

The storage that it shows in settings will not show the space on your ext partition. But don't worry, its working. You can download an app such as titanium backup which will show you the amount of space on your ext partition. If you're skeptical, try installing a few apps from the play store. If you're not getting any low memory errors you are good to go.

Try partitioning with 4ext. Also you should really switch to oxygenr2 hboot...with stock hboot you are wasting a ton of space on the system partition.
I will ty with 4EXT and please tell me one more thing. When finishing with partition SD Card with 4ext what is next?To put PB99IMG_oxygenr2.zip on SD Card and rename it to PB99IMG.zip and install it.Right? And after that put MildWild MW-9.5.zip ROM on SD Card, select it and install it and thats all or must do something more?
Forget to mention, installing PB99IMG.zip and MildWild MW-9.5.zip doing through recovery. Is that ok?

1. Partition sd with 4ext
2. Install the PB99IMG.zip using the bootloader (you DONT flash this with 4ext)
3. Go into 4ext > Wipe > format all partitions (except sdcard)
4. Install MildWild MW-9.5.zip
I have a big problem with partitioning SD Card.I tried through recovery 4ext and still not work. When I finish all process, these 1gb appears nowhere, still got 128MB internal memory. No matter what I do, or with gparted or 4ext always have 128mb of internal memory. Can I install MildWild MW-9.5.zip without expanding the internal memory? If not, can you explain to me how to do root to my phone?

You still don't understand what has been explained before
Your internal memory will not read 'internal + sd-ext' because that's just the way the script works.
As long as the sd-card has been correctly partitioned, the A2SD script should work automatically. (you probably didn't need to use 4EXT if you follow the gparted guide exactly, but doesn't matter now)
Keep apps on internal i.e. don't 'Move to SD', and it will trick the apps apks and dalvik cache to sd-ext. You internal memory (/data) will fill up with app data (e.g. just the saved games). Another way to check is to install another app like 'diskusage', it will allow you to browse your partitions.
What is limiting you is that you are still on stock hboot. You should change to OxygenR2 hboot as advised. Currently on stock hboot your /system size is 250MB, but you're using only around ~95MB, wasting over 150MB.
If you switch to OxygenR2 hboot, the system size is 100MB, you'll waste only 5MB, and the rest gets converted to extra internal memory...total 332MB instead of 147MB...i.e. more space for apps
You should now
-nandroid backup
-flash oxygenR2 hboot, either by PB99IMG.zip method as advised, or using fastboot (search for guides)
-reboot back into recovery, full wipe and nandroid restore.
If not, can you explain to me how to do root to my phone?

You don't need to root your phone any more. Any custom ROM will already be rooted.
