Backup SMS to cloud or another way ? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My desire is bricked so I have no SD card access or USB connectivity and I want to export my SMS messages to my new sensation.
Any ideas how I can copy my SMS messages from my Desire (bricked) to my sensation ?
The import tool on the sensation won't copy over the SMS messages.
Thanks for any help.

You cant get anything off a bricked phone as it is bricked. Are you sure its bricked?

Yep it's bricked I've tried all the things mentioned in other threads and no joy.
I'm planning on trying my luck at sending it back for repair as it's still under warranty but wanted to get my SMS off it if possible.

Does ,adb recognise it or no?

brick is a term which is very over-used... tell us what is ACTUALLY wrong with it rather than just saying it's bricked. Does it turn on? yes? then it's not bricked. simple. (unless it's radio brick then you're f**ked).. If it doesn't turn on then okay it's bricked.
Try my guide maybe theres something on there you can find. However most solutions to problems make you lose data anyway so I dunno how much help It'll be to restoring your sms LOL

The phone works except for the fact I can't access the SD card or connect via USB.
I had a quick look at your guide and I don't think any of it relates to the SD card access issue, reading through other threads most people suggest running fastboot oem enableqxdm 0 to fix the issue but this doesn't work for me.

That's a standard usb "brick". Go through one of the usb brick threads from start to finish

Iv u want to save ur SMS online u could use SMS Restore+, it creates a lable called SMS on your gmail-acc and will sync ur messages to gmail. Install same app on ur Sensation, hit restore and u r done

Oh crap! Friend fiddled with phone now password is on and I don't know it.

Hello all, I beg thee if you can help me, my friend "stole" my xda orbit while I was erm drunk and changed a load of settings, inc adding a password. When I was sober he told me what it was so I could use the phone again. But last night I accidently wanted to change the 4 digit number code that you do when the phone goes inactive for like 1 minute...Instead I think I accidently activated some password...everytime I go to restart the xda I get grilled for a password and if its wrong the time counter keeps going up and up...
Basically I really either need to crack or deactivate this password or some how backup my txts and phone...as I didn't before and theres a few sentimental texts I don't want to lose...
I hope you can help me
i think you might be stuck unless you can figure out the passcode!
i dont think it lets you sync your phone at all does it?
no sync
no asks for a password before sync-ing wondered if there was an alternative to activesync that would work??
was about bootloader mode, if you can go in you would be able to flash a (new) rom.....
errr right
you've lost me, last time I did rom flashing was on a very old XDA and ive forgtten..help!?!
You just have to go to WM6 artemis part of the forum, read the topics about "how to flash" and use the last wm6 rom B&B v3.7.
Before that, ensure bootloader mode is available.
Good luck
huh
1 I don't know how to know if bootloader mode is available
2 I think im on WM5!?
If it is a UK model then he can flash it back to the original ROM using the microSD card first if it will not connect by USB cable.
Yes its an 02 XDA Orbit and I live in the uk and it is a UK phone...so I guess I can but how the hell!? lol Thankyou by the way you may have saved me!
As it seems no backup was done, what about trying to ask a repair center if they can "unlock" the password. Of course you will have to show to purchase invoice ....
Thanks, that will be my alternative if the rom flash doesnt work...just need to be told how to do it via micro sd!!!!

I will PM you about the file you need as all references to it seem to have been removed from the site.
You then put the file onto an empty microSD card and put the card into the phone.
When you turn on the phone ho hold in the 'record' button (top left hand side viewed from the front of the phone) and the phone should go into boot-loader mode and recover the OS from the microSD card.
EDIT: NOT removed, just unpinned! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=314866
Does it matter if anything else is on the SD card?
Do I need to update to a newer WM5 Rom after as I think i saw that 02 1 is a bit old??

Sorry, but doesnt a hard reset solves this problem?? (if the lock is on the phone) sipmle and quick solution.
If it is the sim that is locked, contact you provider.
Considering flashing the ROM is deffinately going to wipe any saved texts etc. Surely a simpler option is a hard reset?
Press and hold both soft-keys, press the stylus into the reset hole, release reset, wait for message on screen and release soft-keys.
This will return the phone to out-of the -factory state, so again you will loose all saved data in system memory and all installed applications in system memory.

Not quite. Flashing the ROM will erase your "sentimental" messages.

Yes, but it is looking like he is going to lose them no matter what happens.
Just Hard Reset it....Wont ask for the password...you will loose your data on the device though....and if your data is on the PC can sync again...no issue there...but the service centers will not remove the password...I had the same issue...and thats what i did.
cheers
yeah all you have to do is hard reset the pda and then the password will be erased, along with all your data ofc.
It would be interesting though to find a way to "crack" the password or somehow remove or bypass it.....
like some kind of PUK code?

he cant get access to the sd card. have you tried removing the card then booting up, battery pull then put it back in.
Maybe you should read a little more. The best way to get the information you are looking and to keep it retained in your head is to discover it your self.
A quick search for ADB How To might do the job.
yea im tryin to do adb i guess. i got my sd card to finally show up but wen i try to load the nandroid which yes i should kill myself for being so lazy which dates way bak to 10-01 . it jus stays frozen on the that bootscreen i had
i swear all i tryed to flash was the combo update of the radios from calkulin and all this had to happen! ughhhhhh fml!

You really need adb. I know is kinda scary I was in your shoes once .but read about it download it play with it it will help you in the long run I have done what u have done at least 3 or 4 times the answer is here in the forums. It kills SD card and usb that's why your computer wont see the sd card . Only other option is if your have a SD card reader plug it into your computer sorry I can't be more help.
I had this happen to me on a plane, almost exact same circumstances. The HTC kernel in RLS4 is not compatible with the latest radios.
You need to use adb to push one of two things to the phone:
1. One of the alternate kernels - They work with the latest radios
2. The older (octoberish) radios - Something before the december release
Steps-ish:
adb shell
-> mount /dev/sdcard
-> exit
adb push one_of_the_two_above_zips.zip /dev/sdcard/zipname.zip
Then use clockworkmod to flash that zip from the SDcard.
i finally got an old nandroid to load up so ima just go from there. im losing alotta important things but ill learn from that but i do dearly thank you all . !

[Q] weird sms recieved

Hi all,
I have rooted my wildfire recently, and flashed CM7 a month ago.
However, I restored it back to froyo as I found the camera app in CM7 very ineffective.
I use the camera a lot, so had to revert back to Froyo today.
Now I have been recieving weird sms messages that give me an option to save or cancel.
Please see the pictures attached.
Is is due to some app i might have installed and the permissions i gave it?
The sms messages are very frequent and pretty distressing as they disrupt my music too
Kindly help.
Regards,
Abhay

I rooted my phone by unlocking the bootloader from htcdev, downgraded the hboot version using "gold card " method, Used revolutionary to S-off and unrevoked to root.
I then made a back up of my froyo rom from backup options in the revolutionary recovery.
I flashed CM7.2 from the official CM website.
I neede the camera badly, so I had to go back to recovery and restored my froyo through recovery.
(I did wipe data, davlik cache etc according to the procedures mentioned on Xda )

Done that as soon as you suggested the idea. i already have settings for gprs, and the customer care has denied having sent anything.
I plan to back up some apps with titanium, then do a factory reset and see if that works.
One important doubt though: Is it ok if i do a factory reset from settings, rather than from recovery?

Its the same.
Let me tell you, I dont think reseting will solve ur prob. It might be some app, maybe something like fb try to remember where u gave ur no. and when did this start.
Uninstall some suspicious apps that arent much popular in market..

If a factory reset does fix this then it will have most likely have been a rouge app. But if it is a network text, they wouldn't know as it would most likely be a automated service.

Mobile Locked

I my phone was locked, and I was requested to enter my google acc, so I did, but it was not recognized, My password is the same since I created my acc, never changed, so I had no solution than making a factory reset to get back my cell, but this is not a solution, since I have a small child and he always playing with the mobile, and this might happen again.
If anyone have an idea please feel free to ask any questions to make it clearer

that happens only when maximum password attempts has been reached.
when asked, you have to be connected to the internet coz verification is done online.
now if you want to avoid this from happening again, don't use any password or pin lock.

I have CM10 Alpha7 on my phone, and I have a Nandroid backup and already used it and nothing lost, my question here? What if my cell is not rooted? There should be a different way. That's what I wanna know,
if ur not rooted then ull simply root ur device through the stock recovery as usual then install the recovery and make ur nandroid backup or simply just format system and cache and re install the same rom so ur data won't b touched (im not so sure if it will help with removing ur lock but my guess is that it will), cuz if u go to SSC in egypt then they will simply tell u to format ur cell (they dont give a s**t for us bro)

Without any form of backup of your efs (are you sure you don't have a Twrp or CWM backup with it?) Then you basically will have to either inject a working, non-GN2 imei from a phone that isn't blacklisted from your carrier. Or figure out if there is a newer way (maybe someone came out with a fix that I'm unaware of) to restore your imei (printed behind the battery of your phone) either way if you want your phone to connect cellularly than you'll need to freshin up on QPST and NV Writer

Basically in the TMO GN2 Q&A thread there are several post referring to solutions but obviously you will need to replace their modems with that of your own carrier and I also suggest once you find the threads that I'm referring to that you make sure there isn't an updated option available... I would link the threads myself but my XDA app is acting all kinds of stupid right now and won't let me access my participated threads

I'm simply referring to getting your phone working on a carrier again... Not really flashing stock (unrooted) Roms... From your original post you seem to have had 4 problems (WiFi has already been solves). My post is referring to the null imei... As far as your home button only pulling up your menu key (which I interpret based on your original post) than I would ask if you have a recovery installed at all... If not I think it might be a cache partition error which chainfire solved on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1932327 but that is a whole different bag of worms... Really I need to know more on how you got into this situation in the first place ( your original post said something about dropping the phone but when on to say you received a replacement) How did the home button get messed up?

i think what u gotta do now is maybe unroot back your phone, get the stock firmware and rom, and then root it again if you want.. you can try using this method. http://galaxynote2root.com/galaxy-n...ootunbrick-galaxy-note-2-with-stock-firmware/

hi sorry for a late reply ...
i got in this situation by the banging the phone on the floor ...
when i ws in a otterbox commuter case ... lol
and display got cracked ...
so i fetched a new display panel with the metal frame from my friends note 2 ....
to simply backup my personal data ...
then i figured out the sim is not working ...
so replaced i new sim flex ...( sim slot + microsd slot + nfc pins)
nfc n micro sd works ... probelm is with the some other part ...
and also i tested on the home key problem by attaching a new home key flex .. still no luck ....
new flex also malfunctions ...
menu key instead of home key ...
so i have come to the conclusion that my mainboard has messed up in some way ...
i need to fix it up ....
find any alternate solution ...
please lemmme know ...
n yes wifi solved ...
imei null
no carrier ..
flashed a stock rom via odin ...
now stuck in a boot loop ...
cant get out of it because of no home key ...

I would think you should be able to hook your phone up to the PC and then within terminal (once you get ADB Shell and your phone is reading properly with the appropriate drivers) and use codes to launch Download mode or Recovery.. You could also (using this method) potential make a copy of your phone so at least you have a copy of it all on the PC...

I doubt it but not 100 percent but I think its 1 or the other... Ultimately I am new to using jdk/SDK etc and don't have the slightest clue as to what steps are needed to even get the GN2 to communicate with windows properly... With that being said I have been able to follow directions enough to unbrick an archos (had to install jdk/sdk etc, a virtualbox with Ubuntu, setup drivers to commincate the device thoroughly with the PC and then thru the virtual machine via USB, and then using terminal via Ubuntu flash codes and through Sudo fix files on the device to unbrick it... Took me like 3-4 days as I was so noon to it all but it was that experience that got me in to flashing phones in the first place
