[Q] CM7 and Swype = Sms problems? - Defy General

Hi everybody. Im having some trouble with CM7 and swype. I have to say that i love swype... Its easy to write in android with this method.
Here it's my problem. I installed swype beta via http://beta.swype.com/ but when im trying to send a sms i cant send a 160 characters sms because when i reach the 95th it changes to 65/2 (that means 2 sms instead of 1...).
I tried too with an older version of swype via recovery... but... i have the same result. I changed the sms options (slip sms, counter, etc) but it doesnt seem to work...
The only way to send a sms with 160 characters its with default keyboard (CM7 RC 1.5).
Can somebody help me? How can i use swype to send sms properly? Please HELP!

Do me a favor... Go to cyanogenmod site, pick out your phone, and download the latest nightly.
Put it on the sd card
Wipe dalvik and battery only, then choose to install the custom nightly zip.
Lmk if you still have the issue with the keyboard after that.
Edit:
If that doesn't do it, clear out your messaging signature and try.

That is not the issue.
The issue is you are using special characters on your SMS, anything like Ö ä ß á, etc will force the phone to use Unicode characters and not ASCII.
When sending a message in Unicode the phone needs basically 2x data to be able to send special characters, thats why it goes down to 95/65 characters instead of the full 160
Solution: do not use special characters and stick to basic letters.

Awesome response!!!
It's always the hidden stuff
Thanks for that!!

Thanks for your answers... but I did all these things... I tried reinstalling CM7.... nightly and RC 1.5 and no luck... clear cache... erase data from app... NOthing!!! And yes... Im spanish user and i have to use á characters... but... No special characters like that and it happens too... so... (maybe language layer??¿) its not keyboard problem... Its defy cm7 stock app... I "solved" it installing Hacent SMS from market... but i cant use stock CM7 app to send 160 characters sms... I hope Quarkx will solve this!

Adding words to T9 dictionary

I installed phonepad from this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284378, and Dictmgr from this link:http://mobile-sg.com/
Dictmgr contans T9editor which should be able to modify the T9 dictionaries. Phonepad uses *.DLL dictionaries, and T9editor can only import *.PEF, *. DCF, and *.DIC files ?
How do I open the dictionary files ?
I would really like to know this to, is there away to change the phonepad t9 dic to add words that i commonly use like my name and girlfriends name?

If I'm not mistaken, words which you type manually (so without using the T9) are added to the dictionary. But I'm not really shure.
Yes, they were added when typed manually.
But gone after a soft-reset.

Yes, my "stored" words are also gone after a soft reset which is rather common. Can anyone provide any help ?
I'd like to know this also as its very frustrating having to remind it all the time.
if you use the t9 pad to imput your message and when you've completed your message use the spell check option to store new words you've used. mine are still there after a soft reset. hope this makes sence

Text Messages in Foreign Language

Hi all,
I am currently traveling abroad on business and I am using the local cell provider with my Tytn.
One quick question, I have received a few text messages while I have been here but I am unable to read them since they obviously are not sent in English. Is there any way to read these messages without having to find a new OS in that language? When I go to look at the messages they appear as boxes (I am guessing it is because of the font).
Can anyone help?
Thanks!
what language is this? If it is Chinese, install CE-Star to view it.
Have same thing with Thaï messages... Any ideas?

I am in Israel at the moment so it would be Hebrew that I would need to enable. While roaming on their network I have business partners sending be SMS's...
Thanks!
Google "PocketPC Hebrew Language Support" (no quotes) there are several options available.
@jealouskain, Same thing except replace "Hebrew" with "thai".

Hi JasenR,
I'm currently using JJ's Majik Rom. I was hoping that it would be something as simple as installing the correct font or something. I don't need to type in a different font, just receive the SMS's...

Greek keyboard with XT9 in ROM 5.2.21018 [Full Support]

I've created a cab for greek keyboard in ROM 5.2.21018.1.6.0 (the one in Dutty's HD Xtreme 1.8 ROM) with XT9 and full support for all greek characters.
Just press and hold the character you want and the specials characters will appear i.e. when pressing "ι" you'll get "ί ϊ ΐ"
* Works on landscape too*
It took some searching to make it happen but now it's ok. Tested by me - it works fine.
Just install the cab in the attachment - you can always uninstall.
If you installed previous version of the cab file please uninstall and soft reset before proceeding with new installation.
Thank you very very much!!!
I'm waiting for new release by Dutty to test it.
Very nice work bro....Σε ευχαριστώ πολύ

What I couldn't find so far is a way to enable special greek characters when pressing corresponding letters like "η" to give "ή".
I'm trying to find a solution..

I've already tried that. I think that file is to be used with hardware keyboard and I'm guessing touch pro 2 maybe.
Anyway I'm still working on it, I think I'm on to something...
I'll let you know as soon as it's ready..
Great news.
I'm testing the new file with full greek support. Everything seems to be ok.
I will have the file uploaded in about 2 hours after I finish the testing.
It's finished... I've updated the 1st post..
Question
Hi! I'm using the official english rom that was installed in my HTC when purchased. If I install this keyboard, will I be able to use it on my phone? And another question, will it support sms with 160 characters?
Thanks in advance for your response!

No it won't work with the official HTC HD ROM because it uses older version of manila-touchflo and also older version of keyboard.
As for the 160 characters on SMS, I'm working on that.
If you want greek keyboard for official HTC rom I think panosha has already created a cab for greek keyboard. Search the forum and I'm sure you'll find it.

Hi aeacus,
Did you manage to complete your amazing work, by adding 160 characters support on SMS?
Many thanks bro for your hard work
aeacus,
Could you please check your Greek Keyboard because with new Duty's ROM v2.2 it's not working correctly (e.g. Spce bar is not displayed correctly, the green selector which shows if you have selected XT9 is disabled), etc
Thanks in advance
Can this be used on Shaks Diamond 4.00?? or is it WVGA only? if it cant be used, can you give me some tips or help to create a diamond version?

Yes indeed !
Edit:
Any solution to that??
I too have this problem, or at least something similar.
I flashed to Davideuk's V2 Topaz rom. After installing I found the new keyboard worked in both keypad and qwerty with t9 support However today I discovered that t9 no longer works and the keypad only types numbers, even with the letters showing and regardless of t9 or ABC selected. This evening I'll probably re-flash the rom and go through my settings and apps, checking 1 at a time to see what breaks it... unless someone knows of a fix already?

No need to flash new ROM. If you have HD Tweak installed scroll down to T9 Mode and disable it. Your keyboard should be totally operational again!

Funnily enough I already tried that, but I must have forgotten to soft reset because after trying again (thanks to your advice) and resetting it worked. And my t9 works too Many thanks!
