Mark sms as read?

When I receive an sms, start typing the answer and during that receive another from the same person, the latest sms stays unread in the list and a permanent 1 appears on my sms application icon. I do not know how to set the message as read without deleting it.
Any ideas how to do that?
Thanks!

[Q] Why am I getting a red exclamation point next to "sent" MMS messages on Froyo?

[Q] Why am I getting a red exclamation point next to "sent" MMS messages on Froyo?
I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but when I FWD or send an MMS message, I get a read exclamation point in the upper right corner of the message that was sent. I can't get any info on the problem from the phone and I'm pretty sure that the ! isn't suppose to be there unless something is wrong. I have searched the forums but I couldn't find a solution to this problem, just solutions to the exclamation points on when you update to Froyo.
I am running Android 2.2 which I manually downloaded from Sprint OTA. This did not occur when I was running 2.1. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
because it wasnt sent...
it didnt send because for some odd reason the 2.2's wont split msgs into multiple msgs... you just get a not sent and an exclamation point...
Sounds to me like you have your text messages marked as urgent. Go into you settings in the messaging app and turn it off.

Sorry its not called urgent, its called high priority.

Yep....it was sent to high priority. I set it to normal and the ! is gone. Thanks.

New Message Notification

Hi all. I've loved the info and resources from the site but finally ran into a problem I cant figure out on my own. I get a white envelope in my notification bar for every text message that says "New Notification: Unread Messages" that doesnt take me anywhere when I click it and disabling it under the stock sms app doesnt do anything. It randomly started popping up with my Handcent notification today and wont go away. It only goes away when I clean notifications but pops up again as a second icon when I get a new text. It even plays the ringtone.
Help?
Simple fix...you need to disable the notification for your stock messaging app..open up the stock htc messaging app and go to the settings and disable receive notification... You are now using handcent so you do not need both app notifying you of new messages.
Once you disable recv notification in the stock app you should be good to go.

Thank you for the quick reply.
I already did that option since I've had my Inc since launch and Handcent just as long. This is a recent issue even with the stock Messager app disabled
Sorry I found the culprit. It was the beautiful widgets SMS widget. I had no idea it affected SMS even if the widget wasnt applied

[Q] How do I view my 'Sent' SMS messages?

I can view conversation threads with people in my Contact list, but what if I want to review an SMS message I've sent to someone who isn't in my Contacts? Or if I've forgotten who I sent a message to? There doesn't seem to be a 'Sent Messages' folder to browse?
See the "Text Messaging" icon in your tray (near the bottom), if I click on mine it shows all my texts.

Sorry, don't know what you mean. What app are you using?
I have no tray and no text messaging icon.
I am just using the native 'Text Messaging' App - It only shows INCOMING SMS messages.

In my native text messaging app, incoming texts are displayed in yellow bubbles, but outgoing ones are in grey bubbles in the same chat window. If the contact is not in my contacts list, then just the number appears instead of the name.
Hope that helps.

Yes, If I select an INCOMING text, then the conversation thread opens and I see the grey and yellow bubbles you have described, but that only works if I can find an INCOMING text from that particular contact.
When I open the Text Messaging App, I can only see a list of RECEIVED messages (no SENT MESSAGES), so I can't select a SENT MESSAGE. There is no option to view SENT messages.
Or put it another way, I can't see SENT messages to anyone who hasn't replied.
Try sending a new text message to a non-contact (someone who has never sent you a message). Then search for the message you have just sent? You can't find it.
Go to your apps drawer and click on "Messaging" app. From there select "Text Messages". This will open all the conversations you have had. I have several in there from people who are not in my contacts due to craigslist sales and wrong number texts.
Edit: Nevermind, I think I misunderstood you. I don't know any numbers to text that are not in my contacts that haven't already texted me so I can't check what you are saying.

Yes I can.
Top entry in the list of conversations in the text messaging app.
Also, for other contacts, I see a snippet of the most recent message in the conversation, not the most recent received message - so if I was the last person to say something, it shows the start of the message I sent.
No idea what's wrong with your handset to be honest...

OK you are right, sorry for the confusion.
It's just that there is no distinction between RECEIVED messages and SENT messages in this view (They are the same colour, font, background).
I guess I am used to my WM6 device where I had seperate folders (views) for Inbox and Sent.
What I'm asking is - is there any way I can view ALL and ONLY my SENT text messages? without seeing RECEIVED?

Not with the stock messaging app.
Maybe if you were to use a third-party app like Handcent but that's really just a guess on my part as I've never used it myself...
from market - go sms pro . free right now , it has inbox, sent, outbox and all that

Yahoo popups available?

Is there a way to get yahoo messenger to make popups the way small does?
I currently use the official yahoo messenger for mobile, and when receiving a message, it appears in the notification bar and I have to back out of whatever app I'm using to reply to the message.
I would love for the messages to popup in the way sms messages popup on top of apps, so I can just reply quickly and resume whatever it was I was doing.
I'm open to using an alternate yahoo messenger if it has this feature.
And this isn't available, perhaps it would be a good idea for a developer to make.
