Enable Microphone while using 3.5mm jack - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Ive noticed that the microphone is being disabled when using my 3.5mm audio cable. Its easier for me to update my phone than it is my car stereo, so bluetooth is not an option. Id like to be able to be hands free while driving like my evo3d allows. I dont know of an option to enable it, anyone have any ideas?
When the cable is in, it seems the mic is disabled in all apps. Voice search wont work, phone wont work... Bummer!

when i have the aux cable in and i make a phone call the phone defaults to speakerphone, the person i'm calling comes through the car speakers and i just talk at a reasonable volume and they hear me just fine

Routing calls through PC

Anyone have any idea if it's possible to route calls from my Desire through my PC in the same way that I can with the hands free in my car ?
I find that holding my phone to my face causes a pain in my shoulder which then causes me to resent the person who I am talking to and try to hang up as soon as I can.
Don't really care if it connects via bluetooth, wifi or usb as long as it works, and I'd rather not have to pay by the minute as would be possible with Skype
I have found two options -
Bluesolei which has a demo but doesn't seem to work and looks a bit flaky
HFP for Linux which looks good - most of my machines run Linux but unfortunately not the one with bluetooth and the mic / speakers
Any ideas ?
Wouldn't it be easier to get a bluetooth headset? Problably the simplest & easiest solution...
If you need to route it through your pc then again Bluetooth is the way as long as the software / stack supports the headset profile. I know bluesoeil does
Are you trying to record the calls ?

Connect the headphone Jack to the line in/out on your soundcard. Would cost you next to nothing.
I have my phone paired to laptop and Whenever I turn on my bluetooth my laptop automatically becomes a speaker but I have never tried a call to see if it also works as a microphone.

Would that clash with the speakers that are already plugged in ? I suppose I could get a usb sound card ....

Could you try ? What bluetooth hardware does your laptop ?

Bluetooth and headphone jack

I have an Acura, and every bluetooth phone I have had in the past I could pair with the car, and plug in an Aux line to the headphone jack to listen to music, then if a call came in, it would come through my spearkers.
Now with the EP4g, it comes through the speakers, but no one can hear me, and I can't hear them until I unplug the aux line.
Anyone else have a problem?
i had a conference call on my phone in the car via my AUX input today. The parties were heard through the speakers of the car and they were able to hear me, but complained about a really bad echo and that I was VERY hard to hear. These in car conference calls were fine on my EVO with the same setup. I have not tried the in car bluetooth yet as I didn't think I would need it. Will be trying that next.
Just did a test with my Nissan and had to pull out the AUX cable before I could hear the other end on my speakers. The other end said they could hear me the entire time.
Something is going on with the aux cable. I really like the phone, but I don't like trying to figure **** out.

I was under the impression that the mic becomes disabled when the AUX cable is in. Had similar behavior on my old Palm Centro. It went into "headset" mode and the mic turned off. In my thread, someone said that it is working fine. Perhaps there is something else causing it?
Do you use or does the Samsung voice dial app automatically launch when you put your aux cable in? Mine does. The mic does not work for it either. Maybe its the culprit?

Its just an aux cable, no mic to it. I plug it in and dont see anything in the status bar and no apps launch.
Right, but when the AUX cable is put in, the Microphone on the epic is disabled, at least that's my working theory. IDK, maybe its just something with mine, but at the moment, no-one can hear me when the aux cable is installed, and i cannot use the voice search applications

I will give that a try, any idea what that mode does? Manual doesn't really help.

VCO stands for Voice carry over. I could be wrong on the exact purpose, but i understand that it is designed to allow those with hearing impediments but capable of speaking to use their own voice while their speaker is hooked up to another device to assist in hearing.
Basically, it keeps the microphone on the device "ON" while the audio is outputted to another device. In our case, the car speakers.
Otherwise, when the device is outputting audio, it is looking for another source of voice input. If you car had a hands-free option built in, it would work just fine without changing the setting as the voice input would be coming from the hands free option.
Just a guess really. Glad its working for me, hope it works for you!
Yes it wierd, My car does have bluetooth built in, but when the aux cable is plugged in it doesn't send sound to the handsfree. Not sure what the issue is.

Can anyone also confirm that this works?
I have an iphone 4s right now, but I really want to go back to android and get a GSII, but that bluetooth problem was a big hassle when I had the Epic 4G. However, with the Epic 4G, someone wrote an app that would allow you to reroute sound through bluetooth with the aux was plugged in. I'm hoping there's a fix out there...

Aux cord in, music wont play

Alright so my Gs2 doesnt play music when i connect the aux cord from my car to the phone. It just plays through the speakers, if i press the 5.1 button, it says only works through headphones. The music works fine if i do plug in headphones though, just bugged on why it wont play in my car.
Any ideas why? or how i can fix this?
Weird I hook up my sgs2 to aux in my car using my google music streaming app and it works fine, maybe u have a faulty plug

hmm... it works fine on my g2x :/
try going in to settings dock settings and hitting play through external speakers?
I've got a cassette player connection for my car and it has worked fine so far via the 3.5mm port.
Did you push the plug in all the way?
I only ask because i thought mine was bad too.
But i had to really push the plug in.

yeah ill try the dock settings thing, im in class, ill get back to you guys later
and yes it is plugged in all the way haha
Yeah mines works fine also, I wouldn't dare listen to the radio..

Well on the way home i tried that docking option but it still doesnt work. Maybe the gs2 reads the aux as not a legit auxcable? Because i wired the aux myself to the corolla radio and it works fine/great with mp3 players and my previous g2x. Any other suggestions? Im bummed that i cant blast my music in the car no more :/
this happened to me once too, same scenario in the car.
i think unplug/plug fixed it?
when bubby releases the stock rom maybe you can try flashing that and see if it fixes it
otherwise id try and return it, cause for me its crucial element

[Q] Bluetooth with Aux Cable

I saw that this had been asked once before, but no suitable answers were given unfortunately. On my old Evo, I could play music through my stereo via aux cable, and the phone would switch to Bluetooth for calls. This meant cutting the music, and transferring to both the mic and earpiece for audio omy bluetooth.
Currently, the audio on my ET4G doesn't transfer to the bluetooth headset, but instead comes out of my car speakers. Any workarounds to get the call pushed to Bluetooth when it comes in, or am I stuck just unplugging the 3.5 mm jack?
For your info, I'm currently rooted and running Starburst 1.98, although I'm willing to change that if it can help with the issue. Thanks!
I've been wondering about this too. Seems like you can still talk through the BT headset, but the person you are talking to comes through the speakers instead of the headset.
And I am still completely stock and not rooted BTW.

Hmm . . .audio still coming through speakers for me.
It works while i'm my car dock so I guess it won't work through the headphone jack

you guys got it figured out yet, got the same problem
and havent found a solution....
did a search within the ET4G forums with the term "headset" and this is the best result..

Internal microphone muted when aux 3.5mm cable is plugged in

It used to work perfectly. When I am in the car, I use a cable to connect to car stereo auxiliar input. I used to be able to answer calls through the car stereo also so the internal microphone was working even with the cable plugged in. Since 4.2, it does not work anymore. Nobody can hear me when I take the call so I am force to use the phone`s speaker (you know it sucks).
Any idea why this has been happening? Any software change by Google in this version that stops this from working?
Thanks in advance for the help!!
Mine works fine 4.2.1 stock.. Did u do a factory reset since the update?

Yes I did because I was not able to turn on my bluetooth. The BT is now ok but the mic is still broken.
If yours work just fine, I really don't understand what is happening.

Try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.woodslink.android.wiredheadphoneroutingfix
Just to let everyone know about the workaround for this problem that I figured out.
Using Tasker app, create a task that unmute the mic whenever you plug something to the headphone jack.
Thanks for the help.
