Hi Guys,
My HTC wildfire Market got updated to version 3.1.5 without any official update info. When I logged to market today I saw the change in the Market screen.. its totally changed and I am stunned. Is it a virus or something or this is original update by market itself ? can some one help me out ? bit worried..
thanks
It's official, so don't worry. All you should worry about is the speed. It can get very slow on the Wildfire.

Yes.. its damn slow.... !!!!!!
I'm not too worried about how slow the new market runs, but rather that it eats up 7MB of phone storage. It also tries to update superuser, gmail and maps. That's 1MB, 3MB and 10MB of updates on top of the 7MB market. Thus completely trashing my internal storage. [email protected]#$ google.
I tried to uninstall this update but after a while it comes back again. Is there any way to stop it from updating?
Try to freeze app Market updater via Titanium Backup or Root Uninstaller.
I don't think that'll work as intended. A "freeze" does pm disable $package which makes it unavailable. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Edit: thanks to The_Complete_Noob for this brilliant idea:
Code:
# [b]pm disable com.android.vending.updater[/b]
Package com.android.vending.updater new state: disabled
If it doesn't work the first time, try again. I'm on 2.12 now and it doesn't update itself anymore!

I have just picked up my new Orange HTC desire (very nice it is too, apart from the Orange stuff that comes with it).
The problem I am having is that I am now unable to download any more applications form the Andriod marketplace. I was able to do this until the other day.
I found this (android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile-pulse-pulse-modaco-com/304562/download-unsuccessful/)forum which basically says that you need the gtalk service running.
I had disabled this the other day whilst messing around and I couldn't work out how to re-enable this. (Possibly due to the ORange branding stuff, not sure).
I found a link to the gtalk.apk in one of these forums, downloaded it and installed that. That got the gtalk service running again. however I am still unable to download apps from the market place, this is very annoying.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
try clearing the cache from the settings menu / applications / manage applications / download manager and then reboot your handset. This worked for me earlier in the week.
Thanks for the tip, I tried it but still no luck, any more ideas anybody?
Cheers
EVO APP store
yeah, after updates, rooting, froyo.. etc..
i couldn't download apps as well.
Logged into GTalk and app downloads started working.

i dont think you need gtalk running to download from the market, im sure i have removed that app b4 and had no problems i can remember, what is the error you are getting? you have give us no info? is the download failing or the instalation? many problems with the market can be solved by going to settings/application/manage applictions, find market under the all tab, click on it then click on clear data, reboot your fone and try again ....
Hey,
I'm running the HTC sense UI, that came with my phone, which I haven't rooted.. And I would like to know if anyone could tell me how can I update programs that came preinstalled..? Because they don't show up in the market, and I would like the new updated google maps, that just came out.. in settings->about->system software update I've tried checking for updates, but still nothing..
Thanks for any help you can provide me
Yeah sometimes the market doesn't detect the apps that are already installed on my phone. I usually just click install even if it doesn't say update. Have you tried just installing the Google Maps application from the market? I believe the updated version came out yesterday.
Sent from my HTC DZ using XDA app
Sometimes the market doesn't detect all of my apps as well... The fix is to clear the market cache!
clearing market cache didn't do it.. and oh well.. now i can't even find the maps on the market anymore.. so who knows what's going on ..
This happens to me too on every single ROM I've tried (stock, Cyanogen, Virtuous). There's always several apps that the market doesn't detect me as having, but the one that always seems consistent is Maps. I generally just install Maps from the market manually. This puts an extra Maps applicaton in the /data folder even though Maps already exists in the /system folder. Since I have a rooted device, I then manually delete the maps apk from the system folder.
Super simply fix. Just download aTrackdog by a0soft. It will detect every app you have installed and check to see if there are any updates. If there are you can download them either from the market or the developers website (if one exists). It will even track apps that aren't on the market, like Wireless Tether. And you don't need root for it. Should do the trick, hope it helps.
I hope someone can help.. I have been having issues downloading 2 updates from the market on my evo4g.. COPILOT LIVE and ANGRY BIRDS.. I tried all suggestions already and nothing has worked... IN CAT LOG it shows this error:
DOWNLOADINGASSETVIEWUPDATER.UPDATEVIEW() ASSET COM.ALK.COPILLOT.MRKET.USA IS IN DOWNLOAD STATE BUT DOWNLOAD FAILED
I also see COULDNT FIND PATHNAME FOR COMPLETED DOWNLOAD URI: CONTENT://DOWNLOADS.DOWNLOAD/687 -- Assuming the download failed
how do I resolve this? other updates and programs work just fine... any help would be appreciated...
Try unmounting your SD card before trying to download the apps.
Settings->SD & Phone Storage
If that works and you want the apps on your SD card, you can move them from Settings->Applications

Tried that and it didnt solve the issue.. I am under the belief that this is an ANDROID MARKET THING and NOT something with my phone..
any other ideas??
Nothing than the ordinary clearing cache/data from market and trying again.

OK I'm still under the assumption that this is a MARKET ISSUE and NOT my phone... I have a support request into android market but no response yet...
Ive tried everything and these are the ONLY 2 apps that dont download anymore..
Someone else was having a problem downloading those two same apps. Theres a thread for it, might have an answer there. It was a day or two ago.
Well, here is what I found out.. IF I uninstall the market update so that I am at the stock market that comes with 2.2 I can download the updates for COPILOT and ANGRY BIRDS.. BUT as soon as the market is updated to the latest version, I cant anymore. why would this happen? I have a support ticket into google to find out why. I tested this by uninstalling the market update and then I was able to download copilot update.. then the market was updated again and I tried ANGRY BIRDS.. NO GO.. SAME ISSUE.. UNINSTALLED the market update again and then was able to download angry birds...
anyone???
OK some updates on my issue..
Some APPS install and some do NOT. I dont know why.. I can uninstall an APP that wont update and the do a regular install of THAT app and it works. I just did that with FLASH 10.2. it would not update with "update unsuccessful" . BUT I uninstalled it the 10.1 version and then downloaded the 10.2 version from market and all installed. I then downloaded move2sd enabler which downloaded fine.. If I switch it on install all apps to SD card (external), they start to install and some give the unsuccessful message and SOME reboot the phone. If I switch it to INTERNAL, NOTHING installs and right away I get an UNSUCCESSFUL message.. if I put it on AUTO, some install land some do not. Any ideas??
Thanks.. I would think GOOGLE would have posted a fix somewhere since I see my issue all over the ANDROID MARKET FORUM and various other forums...

no. the latest SPRINT LOVERS SENSE ROM...
why? is there an issue like this on CM7
I was going to say...well you can still do it. You can try reflashing the rom, and the latest gapps for froyo.
OK.. NOW I am getting can not install in /data/app .. I see this in CATLOG
what does this mean? I even tried to SIDE LOAD an APP but putting the APK on my SD card and it wont install
i was having that same problem with a rom i was using, turned out the rom didnt support adobe flash for some reason. maybe it is the rom.
same issue download/install unsuccessful
Most apps download and install fine
But some return the unsuccessful error
At first it seemed to be only updates but now it's new apps as well
I have sinister rom
Market is still as it was, no Google Play
I've tried every fix mentioned here and nothing works
Facebook can't update
Flickr cant install
Market cant update
etc.
Do you know if this is Google's issue or if it's my Evo?
Getting a reply from Google that even remotely relevant seems impossible
Did you try removing .android_secure

i had the same problem before. i simply restarted my phone and it worked!
I'm running CM7 #211 and yesterday my SUperuser app decided to RANDOMLY auto update itself. I didnt even know you could download the superuser app from the Market. Now all my apps are force closing. I uninstalled the update but my ROM is still F'd force closing on everything. I've tried clearing both caches and fixing permissions and it's still messed up. Any ideas? HOW DO I GET SUPERUSER TO NOT AUTO UPDATE?
I wiped my phone and restored to a backup last week and everything seems fine for the moment.... I just need to figure out how to force the market not to auto update any of my apps.
Since froyo rolled out, you have an option in the market to auto update. The part that sucks is this is within each app so if you have thirty apps, then you have to go into all thirty apps in the market and de-select the auto update option.
And yes, SU has been available for some months in the market as well as in XDA.

im running CM7 nightly 211 with the newest SU and it works just fine. if you go to the SU app and update the binary it will fix all the FC.
The latest night will have the updated binary and SU in the zip.
Update the binary? Is that done from within the superuser app?

yep go to the app. click menu button then preferences.
at the bottom you will see "tap to check for updates"
that way you can enjoy the new app and have the new binary's. without breaking CM7
Thanks I'll try that.
In TB you can disassociate apps from the market which is very handy so those you don't ever want to update such as themed or custom.

My superuser app was also auto-updated contrary to my will, i feel raped
First i need to say that everything in the update went fine, updated superuser app and binary are up and working OK.
But regarding what you said, i have eclair 2.1 and so i have the old Market 2.3.6. I also have the option "Allow automatic updating" present in all of my apps, so i can use it or not, it is up to me.
BUT the problem is that in Superuser app this option is not available. See pics:

ttp://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm203/lanosalf/2011-10-7-14-46-45.jpg
PS:
Add the "h" to "ttp" to get "http" and complete image link.
The XDA forum board don't let me put images, it says"to prevent spam new users cant post links..." or something That's okay but, in my opinion, links inserted in between [image] should be permitted.
EDIT: ALL OK NOW. When version 3.04 appear in Market, it also appears the option "Allow automatic updating", so know i can uncheck it if i want, and i did...

On my phone superuser doesn't show up in titanium backup. While other system apps show up in red. If anyone knows a way to make superuser show up in titanium please post it.
Guys, stop freaking out about the SU update. Just do like Synisterwolf said. You'll be fine.
Getting constant f/c on mine, even get them after clicking to update the binary.
Looking over the reviews for SU in the Market many are running into this problem with the latest update.
I had no issues with the update in CM7 but updating past SU app 3.0.2 and binary v2.3.2 running McSense 2.4 was a whole 'nother story. Basically locked down every root permissions app on my phone. Was able to nandroid back to 3.0.2 and disable updating in the market for that ROM. I'll just ignore the nag until the next update.
daj
BTW how are more people not talkign about this? Just about every review across many different roms and phones says the same thing:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/superuser/com.noshufou.android.su
I have no idea if this will help anyone with the SU program or not, or what effects it might have on certain roms.
So after hearing about the force closing on SU I grabbed my phone which I had just updated the binarys on the other day, and today installed a SU update. FC's all over the place as been described. No way to uninstall it from the market, (didn't try the main applications app) so I went to my astro program and from there I was able to uninstall it....well not the entire thing I guess but just the latest updates.
I can now enter back into it without it FC on me. I went to market and made sure auto update was now off and didn't update it when prompted as you open the app.
Seems to work now but I honestly never use it per se unless it prompts me to grant SU permissions when doing something else, so ymmv if doing as I did.
Just thought I'd put it out there in case it helped some folks.
Updated the app to 3.0.5. As long as I don't update the binary past 2.3.2, I'm good running McSense 2.4.

It's very likely that you won't. For me, 3.0.4 worked for the most part, but it never worked with adbWireless. I updated to 3.0.5 and started getting very frequent force closes. Superuser 3 is not ready for prime time. I'm back to superuser 2.3.6.3 su binary 2.3.2 and will stay there for a while.
Ok people this will fix the FC on superuser 3.0.5 with binary 3.0!!!!!
1. Go setting/application/manage applications and clear data on superuser
2. Go to market and install update
3. open superuser and preferences change automatic response to "allow"
The list will not show apps but log will and the first time the app accesses little lag but no FC.
Not sure if you already installed 3.0.5 if will fix... Can try clearing data and then change automatic response.
Tanks RL.
I read something like that lastt night and changing it to "allow" fixed the f/c for me.
But this whole thing is so stupid. So many times someone takes something that is perfectly fine and updates it till it is broken. If it's not broke don't fix it. Especially something as important as this.

Tried again using this except I uninstalled all updates first. Everything looked OK at first but I started getting FCs when opening TiBU. Cleared data for both SU and TiBU and tried again and it worked fine but as I started opening other root apps, the FCs came back. YMMV

OK, I recently rooted my Play after promising myself to do it for about a year. I installed link2sd and was delighted to start moving stuff to my SD and freeing up internal memory which was perpetually flagging 'danger leve'l at around 38 megs free.
However, I got a bit over-zealous. I was trying to move the Play marketplace but failing - due to it being an system app that had had updates applied. I cleared the updates and converted to a user app, moving it to the SD too. Now though, it had reverted back to the original 'Android Marketplace' of course. So I thought I'd do a reboot to get it to update.
However, after rebooting it didn't seem to want to update again as I had hoped it would. No problem, I thought, and sourced a Google Play .apk (com.android.vending-4.0.27.apk) and installed it.
This seemed to work, as the Google Play store dutifully installed. All seemed well ... until I tried to install an app. As the download began, It promptly crashed with the message "The application Google Play Store (process com.android.vending) has stopped completely. Please try again."
This then happened every time I tried to launch it. Some searching suggested I try clearing the cache and data and sure enough this allows the store app to run again - however every time I try to download something it just causes the crash.
Obviously I've corrupted the installation somehow and need to get back to the original Marketplace app and try to get it to update itself. However, being a dumbass even though I had bought Ti Backup (with pro) I hadn't bothered to do a proper system backup :silly:
Anyone know where I can source an .apk that will give me the original Marketplace back again? I don't want to have to unlock the bootloader and flash a system image which is the only sure way I can think to fix it (I'm pretty sure that a factory reset will just clear the /data partition and won't do anything with the /system apps, which is what I have screwed up).
Thanks to anyone who can help me overcome my stupidity :good:

You don't need to unlock your bootlader to flash a system image. Sony PC Companion will flash the latest system image available on Sonys servers to your handset. This is what I would do. Next time don't move/delete anything integral to Android from your phone.
Cheers! Hadn't really used the Sony software much but will definitely give that a go. Next time I'll do a full Titanium backup too, before I start tinkering...
Strange that you'd even have this issue. I instantly Link2SD'ed all of Google's stuff... the play store updates, google settings and even Google's hidden services got the "get off my damn phone storage" treatment and have done a good job at bending over and doing whatever I tell them to.

Good news - I was about to reflash the system but on a hunch decided to remove the 'Google Play Services' package and my store magically started downloading apps again!
I'm guessing that there was some sort of conflict between the two. According to the description in the store;
"Google Play services is used to update Google apps and apps from Google Play. This component gives you access to Google Settings and helps apps speed up offline searches, provide more immersive maps, and improve performance.
Apps may not work if you uninstall Google Play services. You probably need this component."
Hmmm, everything so far seems to be working and a number of updates went through since removing it so I'll wait and see. Maybe the store will install a compatible version itself at some point, when it updates next.

root access with Link2SD is an absolute must for the Xperia - it's the best thing I've done to my XP since I got it and should have rooted/installed it as soon as I heard about it.
It totally transforms the usability of the Xperia Play. What on earth were Sony thinking giving the phone such a paltry amount of usable memory?!!!
