OK folks, don't understand what's going on here. All I have done so far is
Rooted with Zedomax v3
flashed stock kernel back on the phone
WiMAX definitely worked when I got the phone, but now I get stuck at "Obtaining IP Address"
Any ideas? Here is a link to my pastebin of WiMAX interface starting up...
http://pastebin.com/RkDYYSAM
The only way to tell what happened is to try a different kernel or rom and see if it works. If all fails go back to stock, if it fails then then you must have lost your wimax keys... and that would suck!

hmm, thought I read that Samsung doesn't have wimax keys in the same way that HTC does. They are embedded in the device and can't be lost. Plus, I make it pass authenticating to the tower, just seems to have problem establishing IP
Odin the eg30 stock rom/kernel that crawlj posted. It should fix it. This is what has been fmdone to fix the wifi and 4g problems.
Sent From My Evo Killer!!!
It looks more like a network problem to me (albeit a convenient one). Since the problem is obtaining an IP, then your wimax radio is having no problems actually getting the signal (otherwise it would hang on connecting) and problems identifying the connection. What I would do, if it were me, would be to flash crawrj's stock tar (the whole stock rom in tar form), factory reset and try again.
If it still hangs after that, then it's the tower and give it a day or two to get it's own panties out of whatever twist they're in.
Sometimes this kinda stuff happens to me too, but it always starts up again eventually

Where do you live? Did this just happen. I live in queens NY and i was getting great 4g until last night when it just started getting stuck at obtaining ip as well. I'm hoping it has something to do with the signal.

Did you turn your 4g on first? You wont get a mac address unless it is on.
I also have the same problem. I went from CM6 to Fresh 3.2; i updated the radio and wimax radio and my 4G is stuck on "scanning" and says MAC address is unavailable
Take your phone to sprint. They will replace them. Just tell them your 4g is not connecting. As of right now I don't believe that there is a fix.

not true, he probably botched up his 4G while flashing somehow. The development section has a few dedicated threads with the necessary steps to fix a bad mac or broken 4G.
Also, the phone will not show a mac address until 4G actually connects

I had this same problem with my phone. I got a new phone, rooted it, and set it up on Fresh 3.1.0.2. Before I rooted my 4g worked fine. After flashing Fresh 3.1.0.2 it stopped. My MAC address still matched, but for some reason I could not get my phone to get passed scanning.
If you turn your 4g on, and let it try scanning you should eventually get a MAC address to show up. At least I did.
What I did to get it working again was I flashed the latest radios, and changed ROM's. I was on Fresh 3.1.0.2 and flashed up to 3.2, and all works well.
Also, make sure you know you are in a 4g area. I thought it was just me at first, but I tried some co-workers 4g and found that I wasn't getting 4g coverage in an area where I thought I had had it before. So just make sure that's not the problem.

4g WiMax Broken
So I live in area with 4g, worked perfect when i got phone, but then I went out of town for a month to area w/o 4g & rooted it, and have since flashed couple of different roms.
Now I'm back in 4g area and it doesn't work, and not sure when in rooting/flashing rom process it stopped working
I used simpleroot, and flashed burntdroid, then couple other roms I didn't like (virus, baked snack, maybe 1-2 others) now back to latest version of burnt. Before each rom flash I cleared all those things in recovery that they said to clear (devlik/user data?/some other stuff). I did flash kernel couple of times in between from one's on this site. I have never flashed a new radio, or wimax.
Did try turning on 4g like someone said, and then it does bring up correct wi-max mac address that matches one under my battery. But 4g does not show up at all on top of screen at all to show that it has connected.
I was going to try those procedures for ppl w/ broken 4g, but I never tried to flash a wimax radio, and my mac address seems to be correct, so not sure if I need to do that. What's wrong?? Should I flash a wimax radio?
ok so looking at some other threads trying to figure this out, looks like I may need to flash new radios.
Have some questions:
In one tutorial it says to flash newest radio BEFORE flashing new custom rom, any issue with me doing it now AFTER I have flashed custom rom?
Do I just take the latest radios from this thread: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485 and put them on my sdcard, and boot into recovery and flash em??
Toast had a post saying to do that, but one step says "Reboot to recovery and run .sh or .bat file to gain custom recovery"
Is this just holding vol down and power to get to custom recovery? What is this run .sh or .bat stuff? Also what's the difference between Radio and NV one's listed on that site?
well flashed the newest radio and wimax (not NV cuz still couldn't figure out what exactly that was) and didn't brick anything and wimax mac is stil correct, but still no 4g when im in area that should be getting it!
I ended up wiping the fresh rom and flashed the evio one and now I have blazing fast 4G, maybe the fresh rom just has issues with 4G

Maybe just a clean wipe will do the trick... I flashed the newest ota and wiped everything and my 4g magically started working.

I' some what confused with why my phone is doing this.
I've flashed many roms and i always wipe everything down and never had an issue.
but for some reason, after flashing deck 1.3 stable and tiamat 3.3.7, it stopped connecting to 4g.
i flashed the latest radio and nothing.
just reflashed sense and updated prl and profile and still not connecting to 4g
it shows scanning for 4 seconds, then shows connecting to sprint for 1 second, then disconnecting, then back to scanning. I just don't get it.
any ideas? suggestions?
thanks fellas.
sounds like your rsa keys maybe missing. try restoring a nandroid backup of when your 4g was still working that may do the trick if not check out this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887900&highlight=rsa+keys. i forgot theres a app in the market you can use its called wimax rsa key checker or something like that. if it says your keys are gone just return your phone back to stock and bring it in just remember to play dumb when you do. just tell them all of a sudden your 4g stopped working.
check it out

damn that sucks. like i said earlier just unroot and put back a stock rom, then bring it in to sprint and play dumb. if they cant solve the problem then most likely they'll order you a replacement phone. once you get your phone back try to use 4g again some how after they flashed new software for me my 4g was working again and i just canceled my replacement phone.
Unroot and put the newest stock OTA on it. Take it to Sprint tell them it updated while you were away from your phone or sleeping and the battery was low when you realized your phone was dead you charged it up and powered it on only to discover your 4g no longer works.
to take a stab at your second question, were you drinking Red Poopers? Red wine, tequila and tabasco...
that's why I'm generally hung over
About once a day my mobile data (3g) goes out and doesn't come back no matter what I do.My phone is useless when it goes out. The only way I can get it back is do a nandroid restore (and sometimes that doesn't work). My question is, is it my radio going bad, or has anyone else had this problem? And if so, how did u correct it?
Edit: I guess I should have mentioned it happens when I'm either streaming netflix, or like in the middle of a download or something.
Edit #2: I've also realized I can still turn on 4G when I lose all data, but when i do lose it, nothing works, not sms or my phone.

Or try flashing a different radio if reflashing doesn't help. It could be that the radios you're using aren't the best option for you.
Edit: I don't think radios can "go bad", though.

weirdest thing happened to me today. I made two phone calls on my way to work. Went to call an 800# for my bank "signal lost" tried again same thing. I called back the person I was last talking to connected immediately. Retried my bank "signal lost" I was in traffic and wanted to know my balance so I nand restored and no problem connected. I'm not posting the ROM I was using cuz I don't think it was related it was just weird.
Anyway hope that radio is working for you I flashed the newest one a month or two ago. Seems good just can't wait till we get some LTE I'm about 20 miles south of Boston and 4G is non-existant. Drives me nuts.
Hey all, I was hoping someone else has had this issue and has fixed it. I'm running a stock unrooted phone and when I connect to wifi, it connects to the AP and obtains an IP, but I cannot go out to any website or use any app that needs a connection (facebook app, etc). Things I've done:
Restarted phone
Factory reset phone
rebooted router
Tried other roms
Sent to samsung (they did a SW update) x2
Forgot the network, then reconnected
This is getting extremely frustrating as it's been this way since I've had it, but it got worse with the ICS update. Anything that anyone has tried and actually worked? The funny thing is, when you reflash the phone or do a factory reset, it works for about an hour then stops. Thanks in advance!
Have you ever connected that phone to a different wifi?
I encountered an issue a few months back where something went wonky and i had to completely reset my router and set it back up. Have you tried that too?
sent from my T989 full of CM awesomeness and a touch of Venom from the Darkside!!
Yes, I've tried different wifi AP's and none of them have worked, while others are on them including mine at home. I have not reset the router and reconfigured it because it's a cisco and as such is a pita. I have looked through my config and cannot find anything obvious. But still, others are able to connect just fine.
Same issue here. Never noticed it until recently. Reflashed LE1 and it worked for a couple of days. Going to flash the galaxy note modem tomorrow.

I'm glad this worked for you. I can't tell you how many factory resets I've done and it fails every time within a day. I bit the bullet and did a t-mo warranty exchange.
