I hate tech support calls, I have no patience for those calls because I'm above them technically in so many ways (not to sound conceited, but I work in IT for a living, and I'm high up the chain).
What type of network speed is this thing supposed to get on Sprint? On average, I'm not getting any faster than 5mbit.
I'm lucky if I ever get over 1mbit here in Orange County. Usually get 0.5mbps here. Only in off hours do I ever go over that, so I know it's not even my reception. Just their crap network. Freaking sprint...

Depends on your area. I don't have 4g and my 3g sucks as well. I get around 200-400 kbps. Luckily I use my wifi.

I'm right outside Baltimore. 4G bounces up and down all the time, it's pretty bad.
I don't have 4G in my area, but my 3G speeds are posted in my sig. Anywhere from 1.5 to 2.3 usually.

Yeah, that's what I get on 4G a lot of times.
The problem seems to be at home, at work is pretty quick. At home I'm getting 2mbit. How do I approach Sprint support with this issue? I am tired of the stupid "turn your phone on and off" troubleshooting.
I think your fighting a losing battle because its probably not the phone as much as it is the network. Guess we will find out what the plans are at the big event coming up
Not sure if this will work for you but i went here and it actually boosted my 3g by over 400+ kbps. now i normally pull about 1.5 Mbps

Nice. Let's hope they actually fix their 4G coverage and increase speeds. This phone can handle some insane speeds, faster than my 35/35 Fios connection.
Well I finally got tech support after my cell service dropping over and over again, and they're saying my phone is having issues. 4G stays connected but instead of bars, I get a circle with a line through it, and it says "searching for service." This HAS to be a Sprint issue...

It's a common problem and there are many threads on this subject. Sprint is supposedly upgrading their network and this should improve within the next few months depending on where you live and what areas get upgraded first. My 3G speeds suck big time, and my 4G speeds vary depending in which tower I connect to. At my mom's house, 4G is great. In my house, 4G is horrible. At work, 4G is in between the two.
Thanks for letting me know that.. But ill give them until next year to upgrade their towers.

I live in Winston Salem and my experience is the opposite of yours. 4G is blazing fast and my 3G is fast, too. I have noticed that in Orlando, my hometown, both are faster than here, but I attribute that to the not so hilly terrain. The only gripe I have with Sprint is its voice feature. Inside my home, 3G and 4G are good, but I have to switch to roaming only, using the Roam Control app to talk.

That's really interesting i mean the fact that you have it blazing fast in Winston Salem but they can't get it right here lol.
Have you tried the 3g speed fix? I'm in charlotte, I get better speeds than that, but not great. I've been on CM7 variants for a long time now, but I used to get better with Sense ROMs. I'm going to switch to Mik 4.6 and give that a shot for a bit. I usually get anywhere from 500kbps - 1.8mbps, although the last time I got higher than 1mbps was a while ago. I don't mess with 4g since I'm never in coverage other than in the car to and from work.

I live in Waxhaw, and I just got 1.8mbps down. This **** drives me crazy, speeds are up and down all the time. I'll go weeks without getting over 300k and then randomly get faster, but it always goes back.
I'm still on Destroyer and these are some of the fastest dl speeds I've gotten on AOSP (3g) in a looooooong time, so I think I'm going to stick with it for a while and see what happens.

Same here...and if I don't like the looks of things or if, god forbid, speed actually gets worse then I'll be forced to go to Verizon when they get their whatever Prime, or hopefully something even more compelling.
I hope not, I've loved Sprint. I love the customer service. The speeds were fantastic when the EVO4G came out. It's been all downhill from there and it has gotten especially terrible lately in my area. If it gets worse with no sign of repair, considering all of the benefits of being with Sprint have been stripped away, I'll jump ship to Verizon, sigh...
I'm glad my "real number" has been ported to Google Voice...00001.PRL to the ETF-free rescue, lol.

Before you do that call/chat sprint (www.sprint.com/chat) and tell them you have "slow data and have been told you need a 'data reset'"
Then after that dig up your MSL (or get it on the same call) and remove your proxys...then do another speed test.
If things haven't changed dramatically and you know that other phones in your location get more reasonable speeds then bring it back...
Sitting here at work, I just got 1.5Mbps down and 0.33 Mbps up on 3g. In Seattle just south of the airport. I can't get a 4G signal in here to test. Works for me. However, my co-worker sitting next to me just got 33Mbps down and 3Mbps up on his Thunderbolt on Verizon LTE...damn! And we prefer to use www.speakeasy.net/speedtest over the speedtest.net app or website.

I get a solid and fast connection in Redmond, most of Bellevue and most of Seattle. Maybe update your profile and prl. Past that, I'm not really sure what to tell you. I mean you should just be glad you live in one of the rare cities that actually has any type of 4g connection. Think about the folks who have to pay that 10 dollar fee each month and have never even turned on 4g..
I live south of Seattle in Auburn, I'm lucky if I get any 4G at all. The only place I've ever gotten 4G was at my old work, and the signal was so weak I would have to be parked in a certain area for it to work. Other than that the only other place I've gotten 4G is at the Sprint store. Sprint should have thought it this whole 4G thing out before releasing it and charging customers the stupid $10 fee. They may say it's due to the fact that our "Smartphones" are on the network all the time, but I call bs because this didn't happen till 4G phones came out on the market. It also doesn't help that I have to use an Airave to get any connection...so basically I'm paying for the better signal (my broadband) and getting charge $10 for nothing.

As a recent Sprint to T-Mobile switch, I really do not see the huge need for LTE. On Sprint, things were horrible. It was very rare occasion when speeds went up more than 700kbps. Latency was horrible too. Had a ton of timeouts even on simple text pages. Google Maps took forever to come back with results. With T-mobile, in NYC, I am frequently seeing 20+mbps speeds. I would say average is about 17mbps. I can do all things I could never do on Sprint now, like watch Netflix, Youtube, stream Pandora and such.
So, am I really itching for LTE? nope. I mean, it would be nice to have, but am I counting the days? No. On Sprint, LTE is viewed as a great savior from slow internet speeds. On T-Mobile, internet speeds are already amazing.
So, let me ask you this. Why can't you wait for LTE? What is it going to give you that HSPA+ won't? It's a honest question, I am really curious. And please, something other than "2x current speed"

I see people play COD3 and WoW on home DSL connections that top out at 5mbps. About 4x slower than HSPA+ speeds that I get now. So as you can see, LTE is not required for gaming.

2-6mbps up, eh? Show me a single screenshot of HSPA+ speedtest when you see more than 5mbps up. Or even more than 4mbps up!
thanks.

Well, most of my upload speedtests are in mid 2000 range. Highest one was 3040kbps. According to a quick search, HSPA+ max upload is around 5.7mbps

not required, but latency would probably be better.

Speed isn't that important for most games. What does matter is latency, which is significantly lower on LTE, apparently.

Most of my speedtest pings are between 20 and 30ms. In comparison, business cable connection ping to 8.8.8.8 in the office has an average of 35ms. My home FiOS connection gets me 20-25.
Give me a efffing break
I love the 90s. Good times.
LMAO those speeds look good compared to mine. Frankfort, KY here and average around 200kpbs down.

It's about the same speed I had on my epic 4g. Thought it would be way faster. I'm going run another test and post.

It could be 4G, I've seen broadband speeds on 4G before, but the upload speed seems like it is being throttled.

I"m saying the wifi icon is on, it's not using the modem...I think the OP is voicing frustration regarding LTE being turned on in his area that we all have been waiting for

Exactly what a huge waste. Verizon 3g speed is faster than that crap I posted
I am barely hitting 3mbits on 4g here in Michigan. Even when i was in downtown Chicago i was only hitting about 5mbits on 4g. Maybe its just slow cause they are not finished yet?
Wait one GD minute. You are getting .371mbs on LTE???
Is this good? Lol

OP, you must not be connected to your nearest site. Given your 1x signal bars, you should have a better wireless connection for LTE. But LTE is not active on your nearest site and thus, you're getting signal from a distant one. Give it time and I guarantee that speeds will be better than what you're getting.
You must be getting around a -115dBm value for your current speeds to be that slow. Try downloading CDMA field test and see what the rsrp signal strength is on LTE.
This is my speed on LTE after school today:

Around here in NYC, where Sprint is still building out their LTE network, there are places where I barely scratch 500 Kb/s, places where I get 5 Mb/s, and places where I see 25 Mb/s. It depends on a lot of things, but primarily signal strength. And if your network is still being rolled out, don't expect anything stellar until they finish. There is really no reason to be pissed off. You want the best LTE network out there, Verizon is waiting for you. Want unlimited data and lower price, be patient while the network is being built around you. Sprint LTE speeds are solid in areas where the signal is strong. BTW, the signal bars do not correlate with LTE strength.
