I think your dad' Arc need to flash firmware with flashtool and wipe all old data.
You should look at this address:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=18130452
Maybe it can help you.
No auto task killers on it the rom was fresh from the manufacturer and had the problem right off the bat with both phones and with the 2.3.4 freshly flashed

Well it seems that the memory card that came with his phone was locking his phone up. I put the memory card in mine and it did the exact same thing. Took it out and got a new one and everything works fine

Try clearing your cache.
Or try one of the ics ROMs from the development section

I was having that problem the first 2 days of stock Rooted ICS. Oddly, the problem stopped on it's own without the need for further action :/

I had the same problem.
OK here's my scenario, I rooted once I upgraded from the kies ics update via the stock root on GalaxyS2Root.com and then had these problems, I then get (very) angry and decided to try it a different way, so I un-rooted, still having hang then fast restart with buttons lit up. So after I put stock ics on there I did a factory reset in stock recovery, then re-rooted now it's Ok, even though the wifi strength is horrific on the stock ics regardless (anyone else having this problem?). But this permanently fixed my problem. Hope this helped!
P.S. - I froze almost all of the stock bloatware with titanium backup as well still works great!
Hey XDA,
i need serious help. Im running on an Paranoid Android (port of it) and Lupus CM9 version. The prob is when i turn off the phone and then i want to boot it up (2hours later) it does mess up. Before it has booted, i had to take battery out/in like 10 times. WTF? Sometimes bootlogo appeared but no quick vibrate that happens when you turn it on, sometimes no 2th vibrate (when you want to go to recovery), sometimes it rebooted after 5minutes of waiting. And because i want ICS but not dead phone with need to pull/push the battery, im asking here.
Thanks for help!

so i did full wipes during all my installs. no back ups were made.
before root i did notice a few random force closes on play store and messaging and browser before running new root steps. after reboot i've enjoyed a fully rooted ION for about 48 hours now. today i've had 3 random reboots. all have occurred while listening to music in walkman. one was while i was messing with EQ in sound enhancement... literally i just hear a messed up auditory squeal and then everything freezes and it reboots. wtf!
will try and grab a logcat here soon when i have time. in class atm.
just curious if anyone else has experienced any weird behavior since the latest lt28i ICS flash
I am still on LT28h but have seen this issue a couple of times now. Have not been getting random reboots but have had a few times where it will squeal and lock up.

Agreed, I've had no issue on 233fw. I switched back from 19fw, just didn't see any reason since everything was running perfectly on 233.
I haven't had a problem with this so far, butI did with the lt28h before. I just switched to the lt28at ics yesterday.

What problems? I'm on ATT running 233, pretty much flawless performance.
I used them all - non gave random reboot. I flashed back to .119 international fw, I like phone word search better than number search. And don't have to deal with AT&T bloatwares.

I have flashed all the Roms except the at&t ones. But never had this reboot issue.
You guys are the first one to report this. If it is frequent, then it might be some thing to do with the hardware.
Taking it to a service center is a better option.
Ok I had this happen only once in an extream accident situation. Fist I have lt28i ics 119.
So had walkmen running in background was removing bloatware and accidentally opened a game. As soon as the game booted I got a blue screen and a reboot. Luckily I had a log recorder going and it was as follows.
Device has crashed due to an excess of. The app overheat control has rebooted your device. The temperature was +77c
So retried freezing this app and repeated the process and my phone did not crash but was terribly laggy so I adjusted my cpu frequencys and tried again and no lag no overheat no reboot.
This could be your problem. I recommend a temperature widget to keep an eye on this. Please reenable the overheat controll after its purpose is to protect our device.
Good luck.

So the other day I was playing minecraft on my xperia play and the touch pads were acting weird. My screen would randomly move without me touching it. when I did try to use them that randomness was fighting what I wanted it to do so I got no where. To me it seems like its registering touches on its own. has any one else come by this problem? also how do I fix it?
Yes it has happend to me, What rom u on?, Im on a GB Rom, Im running The Super Nexus Project,

Got similar few months ago. Screen starts randomly behave as touched and touchpads gone. When turned off and removed battery it starts working properly until next time.
I tried stock firmware same happen. Even I've send phone to Sony service twice but no resolve.
I have not much problems with random screen touches now but before using touchpads need to turn off phone and remove battery.
i did this also and still nothing. it just spazzes out on every game that involves the touch pads.
Hi all.
My xperia s has been a joy to use until the past week or so...
The problem being that, if somebody was to send me a text message I'd receive it once.
Then read it
Then the exact same message would come through again 3 minutes later.
Its quite annoying!
Can anybody give me information on possibly getting rid of this bug?
Thanks

There are two possibilities
a) It is a network error
b) It is a software error
Possible Solution
a) Take a look at your phone bill, check and make sure you are NOT being billed/counted for the two excess texts.
1) If you are being charged, then your service provider is making the mistake and you can probably easily make a request and ask them to fix this issue.
b) If it is a software related issue, i would HIGHLY recommend re-flashing the stock FTF for the Sony Xperia S
1) You will need a stock FTF of whatver Firmware you choose that was made for the Xperia S (JB/ICS/GB)
2) You will need a version of Flashtool
3) Backup and Flash
Hi
My network doesn't charge for receiving text messages.
And on the grounds of software, I have totally reset the phone already, which I thought would solve the problem.
Also, I have never flashed my xperia s before, I've always used PC companion or OTA updates to do the Job.
Would I be able to flash if I have a locked boot loader?
And a sim lock?
Thanks
Yes you would, I use the flashtool and I have sim lock and LB
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
Yes you can use flash tool but you must use correct firmware for phone and correct baseband for your network. Example : I must use the international firmware to access my LTE settings
Sent from my LT28i using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Ok, Will the information of the baseband and firmware version be stored in the "About phone" section??

Unless it started happening immediately after you changed something on the phone, I'd go with a) as being by far the most likely. I've seen multiple SMS deliveries several times on my various phones and on my partner's (a Nokia 3310, which has barely enough software on it to have room for a bug!) It's always been a Vodafone glitch, nothing to do with the phone - witness the fact that it's happened on a number of different phones over the years.
If I were you I'd call Orange and let them know that it's happening. I'd certainly do that before fiddling about with the firmware on the phone.
You need to search for yourself which Firmware Version is adapted to your specific phone company
Unless you have 4G LTE, you can flash any fw that was built for your phone.
(4G LTE owners are the ones that must worry about baseband)
HOWEVER if you want your phone to be fixed immediately and want a LTE data fix later, then simply reflash any fw built for phone. (then you will only have 3G)
You can fix this problem later

I have recently reset the phone again, downloaded new messaging apps.
Even been to see orange and they have no idea why its happening.

Just to update everyone, I contacted my network.
They set up some settings from their end.
Told me to restart my phone, and claimed that my phone doesn't have a fault.
But 24 hours after I contacted them, the problem came back, but I got a double text message received rather than 4 which is nice I guess.
However this doesn't eliminate the problem.
