Hey, I have just "tried" to replace my screen, during the process I managed to break the flex cable at the bottom of the screen.
The only thing is I don't understand where the LEDS are that lights up the capacitive buttons, just wanna check I have'nt missed anything.
Cheers
there built into the screen Assembly. and you can not access them without breaking it open. ive looked into to it because i wanted to change the color of them.
Ah ok its just I have the phone apart and with no capacitive buttons the bottom doesn't light up ill just have to rebuild the phone and hope for the best lol
Well They are part of the flex cables that connect to the buttons

I recently replaced the bezel on my Inc2, which requires pretty much taking the entire thing apart.
I put it back together and everything seemed to work, but every now and then, the bottom 4 capacitive buttons don't respond when touched. They randomly start working every now and then. Sometimes the phone reacts as if the buttons are being pushed on its own, when it is just sitting on the desk.
Since the digitizer looks to be one piece, I'm confused how the capacitive buttons alone can be affected. The board that sticks to the digitizer and lights up the buttons--those are just lights, right?
Anyone else have issues like this? Thanks.
Hi all
My HOX has even capacitive button lights, and after much research , I know the lights comes from leds and directed over the back of the buttons with light conductive paths.
So I opened up my hox and saw that two of the buttons in question has very dirty/unclear light paths which may be the reason why my buttons are uneven.
Does anyone know if these can be taken out and replaced? I found some light conductive paths online for the evo 4G, was hoping someone who replaced or done something similar before can share some knowledge.
If not then I will try do this myself and post the results.
I just replaced the glass on my S3 and my softkeys at the bottom (menu/return) are no longer working. They still light up when I hit the home button but they don't function. I inspected the ribbon cable and it looks ok to me, although I did use a razor blade to get the old screen off. Are the buttons supposed to work when you touch the white squares on the ribbon, or does it have to be pressed against the glass to properly work? Does anyone know how I would even replace that ribbon cable? I see them all over eBay for $3 to $9, but they don't provide instructions.. any help would be appreciated!
Hi
Please can anyone tell me which bit of the inside of the phone (or the back cover?) relates to the capacative button brightness?
I changed my back cover from black to white and after doing so the middle button of the three is VERY dim. It looks like it's not lit at all but if I look at it in the dark it is actually still lit but extremely dimly. I was really careful when taking the phone apart but I must have disturbed something that controls these buttons. The two on either side are nice and bright as normal. I have no idea which bit I should be looking at to try to fix it.
I'd be very grateful for any help.

FIXED
In case anyone stumbles upon this in the future with the same problem the fix was really simple. I located the flex with the lights attached at the bottom, lifted it up and there was a thin black sticky band underneath which I assume was used to hold the flex cable down. Part of the black tape had covered the light, therefore making it less bright. I used tweezers to pull it away and lay it flat and all my lights were of equal brightness again. Simples!
I have two Metro PCS Samsung S3 phones (T999N - same as T-Mobile from what I understand). I have had to replace a cracked screen on both.
The first one was replaced with a new OEM kit including preassembled back and menu buttons. I had no issues with this screen.
The second one was replaced with a refurbished part. It did not have the back and menu button pre-installed. Well on this one, the buttons don't work and don't light up. I tried the old buttons as well as a brand new OEM button part. I'm now on my second refurbished screen assembly. Still no buttons working. I have confirmed that the rest of the phone is OK by switching to the other screen with working buttons.
Am I doing anything wrong? All I'm doing is plugging in the button flat cable and making sure the crossing line lines up with the line on the motherboard. After doing so, I would expect them to at least light up - but nothing...
The way I see it, either I'm doing something wrong, I got two bad parts in a row, or the screen assembly is not compatible although it looks right and works in all other ways.
Any ideas?

If the assembly does not include the middle housing, you would need to first remove the old, broken screen (not very easy to do), and then using a special adhesive tape, secure the new screen in place of the old. After this, everything should work pretty well.
There are two "pins" on the mother board close to the usb port that need to connect to the housing for the home button to work.
There are tons of videos on screen replacements on youtube. I suggest you watch a few of them to get a better idea. Feel free to ask here too though. There is also a Glass replacement thread in the General section. Not exactly the same as your problem, but there may be some info there that you may find useful.
Good Luck!
