It's a news widget. Comes stock with the phone.
.....
Has anyone else noticed it showing up pretty high on the battery drain chart even without the widget on their desktop?
yes. I had to force close it a bunch of times before it stayed off.

Is there an app that automatically toggles ON/OFF APN data during custom intervals or something like that?
A friend showed me an app for his Galaxy S that connected to the internet every hour or so for 2-3 minutes (so the apps, mail, etc sync) and then it disconects from the internet till the next hour. The problem is that I don't remember the name and my friend is on holidays, so I was wondering if someone knows of any app that does more or less the same.
Thanks!
Search the market for an app called "ultimate juice". I think that will do what you want.

Problem with that is that its a plugin and I still need the main app, I think the app I saw was a standalone one.
juice defender?

It's the same as the other suggestion. It's the core and standalone but has lots of configuration options disabled because you need ultimatejuice to enable them.
Install both?

Can someone send me batterystats.bin my phone goes down to 1% when it hits 50 and just stays there. Thanks in advance

I am sorry, I can't send u this. But I have another idea. Delete the battery.stats.bin and then restart your phone. It should create a new one. But I am not sure

It does but it gets worse every time. At first it was like 5% and down I tried that trick 10% and down and it steadily got worse with each try now its 30-50 and down and if I play a video even if its at 100% it goes to 1%. Thanks for the thought tho

Try something else. type *#*#7378423#*#* in your keyboard to open the service tests. Then test your battery
(Battery Health Test)
you will get that i am sure

The health test says it is healthy. What was the point of that thougj?

That was just to test your battery.
Then i have got another idea. Can you install Terminal Emulator, please?
Type rm /data/system/batterystats.bin
This i a path, but it can depend on other devices. If it is not correct, then nothing will happen exept a little notification about it.
Actually you can delete your battery stats. Also for users who doesn't have the point "advanced>wipe battery stats"
This is also a possiblity to fix your problem with your battery.

Terminal emulator is always the first thing to be installed on my phone right after root haha. I deleted it through file manager after I mounted the system the other day seemed to help a bit.

Basically now it lasts a bit longer. On lte it goes down to 1% extremely fast and then hangs there if I play a video on lte it goes to 1% immediately. Its just annoying because most of the time I have no idea when the battery will die

2012 is when I got it which is when the ion came out. First it had gingerbread if I remember right than ics then finally got jelly bean as a last update. Bootloader locked rooted deodexed bloat removed. Battery should be fine hence I think it is software related.
On a side note sometimes the phone is ligjtening fast but often it will slow to a crawl in my most used apps facebook and browser and txt. When I uninstall facebook and facebook messenger the phone seems to speed up and battery drain is less. First I need ro tackle the 1% issue though lol

Hello everyone!
I don't know why, but since last week the battery drains faster than it has before. There is no apparent reason for it. There is only one anomaly, one process that seems to use a lot of the cellular network, and that is the WhatsApp...
How can I examine this further on an unrooted phone??
Thx in advanced !
If the cellular network at your place is weak, your phone will use more power energy to maintain network connection. In such case, I think you'd better install the app named Greenify to stop Whatsapp from background running.

That's the thing... It's not weak. It just drains the battery more than it had before for some unknown and not apparent reason at all.
i was having a problem like that, i turned up mobile data and using only whatsapp, with a big battery drain, the solution for me was disable fast telephony from the hidden menu in the telephone and now the problem is gone
I guess "fast telephony" = "fast dormancy", right?

Let us know if it works.
Disabling fast dormancy is ok if your carrier does not implement it otherwise if they do you want it on. Given your problem happened suddenly i doubt that is the reason.
When people have problems with whats app. clear cache or failing that, reinstalling the app has fixed it.

Well, it doesn't seem to have any effect on the usage of mobile data of the WhatsApp app...
Also clearing the cache and uninstalling and reinstalling the app didn't have the desired effect.
Any other solutions?
@spartan do you have any ideas ?
Noticed this app or process taking up battery in the stats, was wondering if someone could tell me what it is. I can't find anything about it online.

Something you uninstalled very recently, I believe.
Did you use incognito tabs on Chrome?
Hey guys,
Trying on this more active forum...
I just bought the S21+, overall great phone except couple of issue with Android Auto and Whatsapp.
I was able to fix the Android Auto issue (wouldn't connect, had to remove the latest Google Chrome updates) but the whatsapp issue is above my paygrade.
I scanned the QR code and everything works but as soon as the phone screen goes black, whatsapp is slow and disconnects often. Not completely disconnected as after I send a message perhaps 10/15 seconds later it gets set but still not responsive as before (S8+)
Any idea?
you can try other software to watch network connection status, if no problem, maybe that's compitability issue on s21+

Not sure if you managed to fix this but in case you haven't.
You need to make WhatsApp a non-optimized app in the battery settings. That way WA will consume as much battery as needed to stay alive and to connect to WA Web.

How about disabling Wi-fi power saving mode?
Phone is not connected to wifi, would that matter?

No, it shouldn't matter. I was just trying to provide an option.
I really don't have any problem when its on mobile data but I do have problems with Wifi from time to time cause WhatsApp Web is poorly implemented with the app.
Sorry I couldnt provide any help.
