http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277000 I have never used this even though I have OSX (a Hackintosh) because it seems much easier on the windows side so I use it but you can try it out and see.

There is an app that is suppose to allow you to do it. I forgot what it was called or if it is even out there still. Whenever I did this, the app did not work. I have been messing around with linux scripting and might be able to do something with. No Guarantees, as I am working on another project right now.

"Rocket surgery"... Lol didn't know there was such a thing haha
Since you are on EL 29 you should be able to use the exynos exploit to obtain root without a computer by using the apk in the thread below.

I have two d710 and I too would like to know if there is a way to root with out a computer. Currently one of my d710 does not charge(I have to remove battery and charge the battery separately from device, its not so bad I have multiple batteries).
I have tried different cables to no profit. I have one of my D710 rooted rocking CM11. But would love to be able to root the wife's phone to.

Just use Parallels to run Windows and root that way? That's what I plan on doing if I ever root mine.

I've never used heimdall, I have Windows but go to galaxys3root.com and there is a guide there on how to root. Just follow those steps and it should work. You will lose all the data on your internal sdcard though

Did you install that from the market? If so that app has bricked countless sg3's including mine. That app should have a warning or just be removed from the market its terrible, there are other ways to get beats installed without bricking your device!!

I agree DO NOT USE that site. But my main reason for visiting this thread was to say Beats sucks. Get good headphones and PowerAmp and you should get way better sound quality.

Before anyone asks about jcase's new master key exploit..

I do not think it is possible. I have read that the one 4.2.2 and up and the S4 have been patched (aosp source was patched a while ago). Not sure why those motos have not seeing as they are running 4.2.2.... but who knows. If its possible, jcase knows about it so don't bug him. Please correct me if I am wrong.

specifics? I just see him talking about motoX.
I'm only asking because I'm curious, not trying to bug him / you about it. Just wanna read
Pretty sure he tweeted about not using the method on anything besides a Motorola phone.
Well obviously something was a bit easier to get hacked on the Moto phones than the One, but I certainly didnt think the new Moto Line would be rooted that fast either, still cant unlock the bootloader yet right? Ah well, just have to keep waiting
Has anyone said the hell with it and tried it out of curiosity? its reversible via a factory reset it seems if something goes wrong.
