+1 on this. Is the 8.9 development pretty much the same as the 10.1 or something?
It's the same but we don't know if it's possible to install 10.1 ROM (or something else) on the 8.9

For all android devices : the root is available before they are released (or just after) but not for our 8.9 ? It's not a bad tablet ! Come on !

I've had the Tab 8.9 for about 4 days now, and I keep looking online every day to see if there's a forum for the Galaxy Tab 8.9 but nothing yet. I tried Androidforums as well, and there's minimal posts on it, guess because of how new it is? Idk :-(
1) You cannot install 10.1 Roms (at least I couldn't).
2) You can easily root the 8.9 using the 10.1 patch file method. Upload the one that's posted on here in another thread to the device, reboot in recovery mode, install the patch, reboot, and it's rooted.
3) Last night someone posted a way to get Netflix working on the 8.9, which wasn't working up until then. The instructions for this are also posted in this forum.
Yes I agree that there doesn't seem to be too much activity or forums/threads on specifically the 8.9 model, but it's brand new and will become more popular over time. I was a bit upset without finding a way to root or get Netflix working, but now that I have, I am in love with this little device. It does everything I want to do.
Also, on a side note, if you want OpenVPN support, it has the tun module integrated directly into the kernel (unlike the 10.1 apparently), so it's easy to get it working if you're rooted. And Samsung just released the kernel source so there should be custom roms and kernels coming soon.

And " the instructions for this are also posted in this forum"... what is "this forum" it's xda ?
hard to post when there is no forum for it yet. I have to go searching all the other tablet forums to find info now which is no fun.
Need it's own forum
I search too... post here when you find something

Rooting, adding Ad-HOC Modding Galaxy Tab 8.9
Like those of you who have already posted on this thread, I spent hours looking for any person or group that was focusing on the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and found nothing but bits and pieces that forced me to experiment on my own.
I did find out how to safely and easily root the device, how to replace the wpa_supplicant to easily add Ad-HOC support for wirelessly tethering to a smartphone, and how to restore the stock ROM using ODIN. If you want further details, go to epinions.com and look for my review of the Galaxy Tab 8.9 16GB.
Haven't seen anyone working on any custom ROM for the 8.9 but I did try to install one for the Tab 10.1 and it nearly bricked my 8.9 Tab (put me into a boot loop).
Create a new forum for galaxy 8.9 +1
+1 too for the 8.9 Galaxy Tab forum
Galaxy Tab 8.9 forum plzzzzz
Just flood the existing galaxy tab forums until someone gets the picture. That was a joke. Please don't ban me.

I have just recently bought a samsung galaxy tab 3 10.1 in China, and its great the only problem i have is that i don't have GAPPS. I was aware of this before buying as i have bought a samsung phone here but i was able to root and add GAPPS, i have rooted and put on CWM but i can't seem to find any GAPPS files for it. does anyone know where i can get GAPPS or the standard english rom to upload??
Not sure how it is in China but shouldn't you have the Play store app by default ?
Unless you removed it or something
Like I said i'm not sure how software is in China and AFAIK there are no custom ROMS for this device that require GAPPS
Cheers
No Android Market on Tablets from China
Hello together,
I also buyed last week a galaxy tab 3 10.1 here in china and have the same problem.
I have already rooted the tab and also found some how to´s for installing the google framework
and the app store for example
worlwideweb.androidpit.de/de/android/forum/thread/413743/Android-Market-Auf-X2-G
, but it works only more or less. Some of the google apps are running now but the most important
the google play store still didn´t run.
Maybe I only take the wrong software or I don´t know.
My Tab is:
GT-p5200
Android Vers. 4.2.2
Kernel 3.4.34-1216049
Has somebody a good idea or can tell me which software I have to use.
Thx for your hepl.
Hello

Hey guys,
you could try to flash some CM Gapps, like the ones form the Slimbean site.
You could give them a try!
http://slimroms.net/index.php/downloads/dlsearch/viewcategory/916-addons
There you can find the ones for 4.2.2!

In the development section for the. 10.1 you can use the cwm final and root.zip thread by bindroid.
As long as you know a little about Odin and cwm it's pretty safe.

China has a separate play store, but in this case (samsung devices) all of the gapps are missing. If anyone knows which version of gapps to download it would be great.
sm-t311 is my model. Appreciated
hi
after my chinese phone (mentioned in other thread) died, I deceide buy a good phone. But this has the random reboot problem (I found about this problem in other devices) and the more efective solution seems a system update or install cyanogen
but samsung has no release any update ( only a brazilian version....) and I cant found a (safe &comprobed) way to install cwm or another recovery and cyanogen (or another rom) in this model
any ideas?
have a nice day
pd. is already rooted
edit: if i backup the recovery with Razr app, could I restore it without risk?

gt-s6792l is samsung galaxy fame lite (dual sim) ...... it's the wrong section?
Oh, I'm so sorry, was confused of the model number... I searched for a Galaxy Fame Lite section - no result, even if the Lite is very different to the normal Fame. But I will search for ROMs, I'll post my results here.
Edit: You can try to open up a section for Galaxy Fame Lite here:

I'm using an old 1st gen kindle fire, i did this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192818 like a year ago and it was fine
but a lot of the apps i want to use need a newer OS, so i'd like to get one.
Can someone point me to a tutorial for a 1st gen one. Not sure which OS is best though, i heard lolipop uses more resources than kitkat does
Also seems like all the links on this forum are dead. There a better site?

Probably best to start by
1. Reading/browsing through the 1st Gen KF Development threads to familiarize yourself with the options.
2. Decide if you want to remain on Otter or covert to OtterX.
a. If remaining on Otter @rootjunky has a number of YouTube videos explaining how to load JB ROMs that will help you with JB and may help you install KK ROMs.
b. If converting to OtterX you will have a wider selection of ROMs including LP and, soon, maybe M. Take a look at the SlimKat, SlimPop, Hashcode's CM11 and CM12 threads (there are others but I haven't tried them - no slight intended). I think you are correct about LP ROMs and resources. Consequently a number of users have returned to JB and KK ROMs (see @pfederighi's contributions).

I made it with the G532M using a tutorial that I found here. The only thing is that you need to do a downgrade in order to root and my phone eventually "notice" (I don't know hoy to express it, sorry) that it have a outdated firmware and I have to flash the latest firmware with smart switch.
I can't put links but search for "[ROOT] Samsung Galaxy J2 Prime G532F, G532M, G532G, SuperSU Root SM-G532F/M/G". You have to download the firmware for somewhere else because the links are down, but the root works. Also, there is the same method in various videos on youtube. I recommend to find the firmware with the date that support the root, I don't remember the date.
In this moment I have my phone without root but I found a method that needs to mess with the core linux system so until I learn some linux skills I'm going to keep the original firmware.

Hello everyone,
this is my first post in this forum, so i'm excusing in advance if this is the wrong place for this post.
I have a samsung tab sm-t110 which is very slow on every action. I try to format it, but I see no improvement. I then look around to know a little about root and roms.
I read several thread in this forum and i have some question.
1) I'd like to speed up my tablet and remove unnecessary apps, do I just need to root it? If yes, can you confirm is this thread the one I need to follow carefully?
2) What action do you suggest to do after?
3) If you think it would be better use a rom, which one do you suggest?
Sorry if my questions are silly, I'm new and wish to know better this world before starting manipulating my devices
And thanks to whoever will spent his time answering
As far your device, you should first root it . And thn use 3rd party soft wares to delete the unnecessary apps. This will help a lot and you can also download Lineage for your device .
I root the device successfully
Thanks for the clean and easy-to-follow guide (can't write in the thread, it's closed)
For now I'll try using the rooted device with some app.
Really last question for now, what would be the best ROM? The Lineage OS that seems will be out for the end of July?
Its cynogenmod
