SetCPU... Is it still needed? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hi all,
I use SetCPU and only setup a profile for screen off to drop my MHZ.
I am wondering with the S2 if I really even need it anymore?
Does anyone know if it's just a "placebo" having it?
I am running a test to see how long I last w/o it.
I'll update but just curious if anyone else had some thoughts.

So if I only use it for a screen off profile and not overclocking, its not really doing anything?
Also, even if I set a screen off profile to drop mhz, thinking it will save battery, it really doesn't do anything because the frequency or hertz is still the same (sorry if I am not saying it right but it was explained that it really doesn't do anything)

I just came from the Nokia n900

I just came from the Nokia n900 and having so many things working on the phone is a refreshing change! Ive lurked around and read a lot! As a result ive succesfully rooted my phone and have even tried out a few custom roms! However I have a question about a ROM im currently using but I cant post in the dev forum yet so I figured ill try here. Im currently using the digital warfare ROM and ive noticed that my powersave feature does not seem to work correctly. It will kick in regardless of the battery percentage I set. So ive just left it off for now. can someone help?

First I want to give you huge props for actually reading and doing all that on your own instead of posting a ton of useless threads with questions that can easily be found! But to answer your question, the My Account app has its own power save feature, try going into that app and adjusting it from there or just disabling it all together. Hope this helps.

oh man it was really easy compared to what i had to deal with using the n900! well for now i suppose ill just disable it. thanks!

Just disable the power saver in the my account app and use the power saver settings built into the phone, that's what I do.

Welcome to the family.
This phone is pretty beast, and it will only get better.
Thanks! I can tell! making the transition from hw Kb to all touch is kinda weird but this.phone is so capable and powerful its awesome!
Welcome dude and yea i would just disable this phone is great with battery life anyways. One suggestion tho i would freeze tmobile my account all together in titanium backup or uninstall it tgats if u have it installed it actually messes with wifi. When your on wifi it will turn on 4g signal whenever data is requested which isnt good cuz u think ur using wifi the whole time. Ever since ive disabled tgat app i have not had a problem with wifi or 4g service. I actually think its a way for tmobile to snoop on our data. I made a thread about this and other people have confirmed this app to be the culprit. I actually was gonna take my phone back because i couldnt get wifi to stay connected so thats when i started investigating and found this
Hmm I like to keep track of my data usage but if thats the case away it goes!

I remember someone posting some dialer codes where you can check how much data you have accumulated. I just don't know where I saw it. Post on the q&a to find put.

Ok nice ill look around for that. Ive just noticed the phone gets pretty warm/hot on some graphics intensive games. is this a cause for concern?!

Are you overclocked?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
No im running at stock speeds
It's not unusual for a phone to get warm when running cpu/gpu intensive processes like games. It only becomes a problem when it gets incredibly hot and forces the phone to reboot or the battery gets too hot to touch.
#932# for data

Thanks. now i'm having a new problem. My phone will just randomly shut off and I cant turn it back on until I pull the battery. It has happened twice so far
is your phone hot when this happens? try darksides kernel. haven't had an issue.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
not hot. i just flashed his new rom/kernel combo with a clean wipe and as i was messing around with milocker it did it again. just shut off on me. only way to bring it back is to pull the battery. very strange.
You using a new ROM? I know you said new ROM/kernel combo but that could imply same ROM new, kernel. If youre on the same ROM, check the thread to see if its an issue with it I guess. Could always try a new one and see if that fixes it. Let us know if you find out anything.

I use my phone all the time!
Internet, music, call, text, and more....
I just have my phone tu run slow and it would not use that much battery... Try it and you will see

Just a heads up... when running the powersave governor, you're forcing your CPU tonrun at the minimum. So in fact your CPU doesn't run above 384mhz. I am sure that its pretty laggy. Also the device itself will force cpu1 offline when not needed.

Based on what I have learned from reading and personal experiences, I would say that there is no "one-size-fit-all" for the best way to save battery. My wife and I have the same devices (T989), and I have both of theme tweaked different; different roms, kernels, etc.
Even though these devices are "identical", the set up I have on my device saves me lots of batter; I can go anywhere between 18 to 48 hours depending on usage and other factors. Same set up on my wife's phone wasn't as effective. However, the way I have her phone teaked, works best for her but not for me.
I would say that it really all depends on how you use your phone, settings, tweaks, widgets, sync, etc.
Please everyone enough with negativity! In my opinion using profiles for ocing and ucing in addition to juice defender is the way to go
I use OC/UV Beater on BM 5.1 ROM.
Keep your phone in your pocket lol

another question, are the Kobridge Super Build.prop automatically on? or how do i turn them on. (if possible provide videos on how to do so.)
yes, i acknowledge the fact that i am a noob.
thanks.
3g
also 3g doesnt seem to be working, usually on calk's 3.0 gb rom it would be 40.0kB/s now its just horrible. average 3.0kB/s. yes it do have good signal.
Don't use setcpu, act you shouldn't use any CPU app right now. I have found them to keep the phone awake more often then not.

Well the build.prop, what do you mean. And Yes I have had the same issue with data, sometimes I have to reboot before I even see 1x, so I say its either Sprint, or the modem. We will also check to see if a missing file may be causing an issue.

Benchmark Score is so low?

Two days ago and days before that my score was still quite high, 6000++, but since yesterday I am only at 4000++. Why is that happening? And what should I do to get it back to at least 6000 (I saw people post their score pic at 7000+)
Any idea or suggestions please?
Thank you in advanced!
PS. I'm rooted using CF auto root

The real question: is your device any slower than usual?
Maybe to many processes/activity`s in the background, check your apps activity with Better battery Stats.
Try rebooting your device? Rooting shouldn't really affect your results. And quadrant isn't really best way to benchmark.
The note 2 stock scores around 6000. If you find people with 7000 then either they rigged the results somehow (there are several way to rig quadrant results) or they have custom roms/kernals.
Benchmarks = Snake Oil :laugh:

Most devices have the multi-window update by now and it's on by default when you first get it.
Is that the case with your device? If so that's probably what's going on.

I already had the Multi-Window feature since the first time I bought my Note2 and did the udpating about 2 weeks+ ago before doing rooting.
And now day 3, still around 4000.
i suggest u do a full wipe then
Is there any chance that you have power saving mode enabled? That would produce the kind of slow down that you're reporting.

Yes, Power saving was enabled and auto brightness was un-thick
Then I tried to disable it and thick the auto brightness and then do the test again and it's back to 6000, and my note is fast again now.
Thank you for clearing this up. :good:
