I've got the Sony Ericson Xperia Arc and I used chainfire to flash Android version 2.3.4 on it. Even though I've got data enabled it doesn't work and says "Please accesss www sonyericsson com from your computers web browser to get correct settings". Sometimes it asks me if I'm with Rogers or Fido.
Check your APN setting.

I phoned Rogers and they e-mailed me the APN settings. Still no good. I don't think it's a problem with the APN. I've got adblock installed but when I'm on wifi it's fine.
I think I flashed a very strange version onto ROM. Which should I use?
I think the problem is my signal strength. If I'm outside in certain areas I can get internet over the data but it's really slow. It took about a minute to download the face book app, is that bad?
If the signal strength is good enough to make calls shouldn't it be good enough to use the data network?

Hi All,
I got an Xperia play some months ago, since then well i was just using it to play,
the problem is that never detects or it never changes to 3G connection it always stay in E, i have updated the phone to the latest version 2.3.3 and nothing..
When i use my sim in another phone the 3G icon appears in the same location.
Another problem i have with it is that i cannot download anything from market when i am using data traffic, i start the download and it says "your item will be downloaded" then an download icon appears on top then it dissapears, it works fine when i am using WiFI, i can download anything using the webbrowser..
So problems i have never detects 3G connection...it always stay in E Edge
And Market will not download anything if i am using data traffic...only works using wifi...
ANyone knows how to fix this?
I contacted Sony Ericsson and what they said did not work

Then your provider isn't providing a strong enough signal, which us why your stuck on E.
I would take it to your provider. Who is your provider?

It will be Cable and wireless Panama, maybe you don't know them
but the weird thing is that everybody were i am at right now they have 3g signal but me. Even i am in the Center of the City is the same thing
Do you think i need to flash the device?
See if you could test one of your friends' SIM cards in your phone. Preferably one that's already getting decent reception of course lol
when i am on a call i cant not see to get data...the data connection turns off by itself and when the call ends data connection will come back on? is it suppose to be like that or is there something wrong with the phone. right now im on software 1.28.708.10. thanks

Happens to me too I believe my frined.
It only happens with mobile data though.
If you are on Wifi, the wifi should NOT disconnect right?
ya if it is on wifi then it is ok. not data connection though
I believe that the phone switches to 2g during calls, and not sure whether this is a telco setting that they do not allow calls through 3g, or a software feature of the phone with the reasoning that 2g signals are generally stronger in most parts of the world compared to 3g.
Just fyi i had the same issue on my "old" Desire HD.

It might be carrier specific. I have no trouble getting (and keeping) HSPA data when I'm in a call.
which version do u have Barry? I am using the international version on rogers. Are you using the at&t version?

Then I believe it to be carrier specific then since the software governing these kinda things should be standard across the board

A UK international version on AT&T.
Ok that is so strange. I have the Hong kong version on rogers network. It never happened to me before and I have used a lot of HTC and unlocked phones before.

ok so i dont think its the carrier cuz i reset the phone and it works sometimes now. if i make a call and browse right away then it will work but if i leave it for too long then it wont work.

guys its because the phone calls you make are on a 2g bandwidth unless its a video call, that's why if you have 2g connection or EDGE active it will get disabled as soon as you make a call.
to clarify, force your network settings to wcdma and then connect to 3g, after that make a call and your 3g will not be disconnected

Hi Marktang... I saw your post from Google as I lost data connection during phone call with my Galaxy S2.
May I know is it after configure the Network Mode inside the setting to use WCDMA only, then the problem will be solved?
Thank you...
I have noticed that there are people starting to notice that that have LTE in their frequenting areas, but it's messing with their data once they leave these areas.
For me it was having issues kicking back to edge and even 4G signals would not pull any data, would simply say that I had no connection. Didn't matter whether rooted or not or which rom I was using.
Anyway,
I have discovered somewhat a fix for this issue.
Under Connections tab in Settings, click more networks, then mobile networks, then Access Point Names my Access Point Name was epc.tmobile.com.
I noticed in other forums their APN should be fast.t-mobile.com so I thought I'd give it a try and incredibly my results were pretty good. It goes in and out of LTE areas pretty smoothly in comparison to losing data altogether.
Give it a try and report back.
Thanks
I was experiencing drop of data connection for long period of time (at least 5-10 mins) every time I leave the house, losing my wifi connection. More than once it just won't connect at all for a good couple of hours. I just did a test today, messing with the APN, network operator settings and get it to connect to 4gLTE. Once and turn on and then off the wifi, I lose the data again. And it wasn't gonna come back.
The fast.t-mobile.com address seems to do the trick and I'm now immediately on 4gLTE after losing wifi. and the speed is AMAZING at 24,000kbps download and over 10,000kbps upload.
Thanks!!!
I already had that APN setting but I wasn't getting ant 4G LTE :/ must not be in my area yet. I'm in north Georgia

great find, I must have switched between 5-7 different roms trying to figure out why I'd lose data for up to 20min. after coming off wifi. Once I got reconnected to 4g I was afraid to even turn my wifi back on.
This seems to me to have just started recently, I'll have 4G but I might use the elevator at work and lose my connection, upon being back in service I'll be stuck on Edge for about 10-20 minutes before it picks up the 4G connection again.
I've been switching to Airplane Mode then back and that seemed to help but it doesn't any longer.
My APN is already fast.t-mobile.com, is there any other solution to fixing this?
EDIT: If I reboot my phone it connects to 4G immediately, and I'm using a Rooted Stock MDL Build w/ the Faux kernel.
Thank you!

I have noticed before as well that roms default fast.t-mobile.com, but other times it would not. I could still get LTE with the epc..... but it wouldn't hold it.

Unfortunately I do not know of any other things that might help with LTE connection. I just stumbled on this and thought I'd share what worked for me.
Can anyone with fast.tmo take screenshots of their settings for that apn. My Rom doesn't have that and I would like to manually add it in. Thanks!

The current modem seems to *really* want to be on LTE. If you don't care about LTE you can disable it...settings - connections tab - more networks - mobile networks - change "Network Mode" to GSM/WCDMA. You'll still get HSPA+ speeds, but it should stay connected better.

Thanks man, it's just weird that the only way to get back connected is to make a phone call... I was at the time bike store yesterday and they mentioned something about updating the towers to LTE and should be over end of this summer... They said they are already ahead of sprint as in service at the moment and they are trying to be on the same page as AT&T and Verizon. I messed with the option by the way many times but didn't notice the difference yet but I will update the result on a following reply in the future. Thanks again

I am at work and on wifi. So have not tested yet. I guess I can test it now.
Nope, worked fine for me. I turned off wifi and waiting for the cell signal to establish then called my work extension and opened chrome and had no trouble. Call Recording via xposed worked fine for me to. I hadn't tested that one yet.
