Activesync with Server using Wifi

Hi Everyone:
I recently tried activesyncing with my exchange server over wifi and got an error message saying that activesync cannot start as the mobile phone was off. I was traveling in Japan and since they don't support GSM I was hoping that using the wifi connection I would be able to get my email. Does Activesync over wifi only work between the xda and the laptop/desktop?
Thanks,

Lost Contacts and Calendar on Server

Hello, Have a strange problem here.
Have a Siemens SX-66 that connects to our exchange server using mobile sync.
Somehow the user that has the device managed to nuke everthing on the server but has it all on the SX. I have not been able to sync it backwards even using the usb connection. It just doesn't seem to want to work.
One additional note is that the device is also running Trust Digital's PDA secure...
Suggestions anyone?
Thanks in advance.
Butch

Cannot surf or sync Exchange without WIFI

It works well with WIFI connected. I am running my Desire as it came out of the box and cannot seem to surf or sync exchange with my 3G network. I switched phone this morning with Touch HD which was working fine. Is there a setting I am not familiar with in Android or is this a bug ? Is there a workaround ?
thank you for your answers
When you initially configured your Exchange account, was that through the Wifi connection?

Yes I had to because my Desire wouldn't connect to server if I didn't do it through WIFI (out of the box)
And does this work from any wireless access point? Over 3G can you access your Exchange server using a browser? (https://yourserver/exchange) I presume you're using SSL?
I suggest that the APN for your network is not set up on your device.

Dave
Did u try to reboot your desire? I had the same Problem but after a restart it worked perfectly.

[Q] Credential and wifi enterprise login

My university is using EDUROAM has got a wireless network with the following specs WPA2/AES-CCMP, WPA2/enterprise, WPA/TKIP eller WPA-enterprise and logging on to it goes just fine.
But when I was using my old Desire the phone just logged on to the network when it was in range. With Desire HD I am required to use the credential/WPA2 enterprise security function - this means that I have to manually connect to the network after a reboot and type in the credential password to connect. If I don't remember to connect manually, I can go the whole day using mobile data instead of using wifi.
Why did the Desire connect automatically? Did the Desire connect without enterprise function?
Why does Desire HD require me to use credential security? And can this be avoided? I've tried to disable the credential database, but this will only delete the passwords and I have to make a new credential storage to logon again.
Anyone?
I'm having this problem on my HTC Sensation as well, perhaps a problem with the newer HTC handsets? I wonder if there is a fix

My wild guess is Desire might just support WPA1 or simply favor WPA1 over WPA2. And the newer DHD tends to be in favor of WPA2, for the sake of better security. All in all, they have their own ways to decide authentication methods....
As for WPA2/Enterprise, looks like Android doesn't support this yet. There is some discussion on google code about this and some possible workarounds involving root shell access to modify some files....
Hope this helps.

[Q] Hotspot and Port Forwarding

Hi all,
I've got a Galaxy Nexus with the mobile hotspot feature (Verizon) and I'm having trouble getting VPN software on my laptop to work properly. This is because I haven't forwarded the ports from the phone/hotspot to the laptop - I can't seem to figure out how to do that.
Anyone here know of a way to forward ports using the mobile hotspot feature?
Tried using the PortForwarder app in the market, but it doesn't seem to be working... Not rooted...

Are you hosting the vpn server on your laptop? If not, then you don't need to port forward. I don't know about Verizon, but my provider blocks vpn and charges an extra 5 a month for access.

The VPN app I'm trying to use is Hamachi.
I've got it running on 3 machines - laptop, work PC, and home PC.
home <-> work is fine
anything involving the laptop while connected to the hotspot shows a "relayed tunnel", which means the other machines can't connect directly to the laptop'a service
