Boot Loop? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I installed Aemod Rom and everything went fine but when I decided to replace the kernel with Zedomax v4, i ended used "wipe data/factory reset" and "wipe cache partition" ... after reboot the bootlogo comes on then about 20 seconds later the phone shuts off. I can't mount Mass Storage or access my external SD to reinstall Aemod or use ZedomaxBackup. Can someone please help me. Thanks

Same thing happened to me.

I believed i Used Zedomax kernel v2. Left it on mass storage thru clockmodwork . I was able to bring it thru my computer so i copied over zedomax backup files. Everything is all good now.

[Q] (Q) Please Help me HTC Desire keeps rebooting 10-15 seconds on turning on

Hey all XDA members
Im sorry to ask any of you this but please help me !!
I had no problems rooting my phone with unrevoked and just left it at that but knowing me i downloaded a app on android market place called... ROM MANAGER - clockworkmod or whatever .. it seemed ok i went to backup my phone to my sd card and it said i had 897mb of storage left ... so i thought great ill back it up now so i wont brick my phone and if i ever did i could back up it said it finished succesfully or what not turns off my phone then every time it boots i get telstra next G boot logo then after abit it re F$#cking starts.. excuse my french i can access recovery menu and even clockworksmod recovery tryed formating the cache and everything
ATM im paying for a brick per month and it just seems so easy to fix but im obviously mistaken .. I really dont know what to do i wanna send it to htc but dont know how they would respond if they found clockworkmod in the recovery menu I dont even care if i have to pay them just so i can get my desire back ...
FAQS that ive learnt about this issue so far
#1 it makes a bootloop because i didnt have enough storage on my sd card so im puting the blame atm with the guys at clockmod for not giving users a clear warning that if you dont have enough memorey it will cause a boot loop ... and they make you pay for the app ... go figure >.>
There is no one to blame but you, you should know what you are doing with a rooted phone. Also your paying argument is stupid, who pays for a app you don't know before trying the free alternative?
Now to your problem:
Pull the battery.
Hold VolDown+POWER.
Go to recovery.
Go to backup and restore.
Restore.
Find the file of your backup. (either a data and time or a name you gave)
Click it.
Wait till it's done.
Reboot system now.
In recovery use the trackpad to navigate and confirm and in hboot, i think, volume up and down to navigate and power to confirm.
If there is no backup file at step 6, wipe dalvik cache under advanced (also in recovery), reboot and see if that fixed it. If not do a full wipe in recovery, data/factory reset, cache and dalvik cache under advanced. Keep in mind this will wipe everything of your phone. Sd card is not affected.
Thanks for the reply first off i know its my fault i program computers for a living and find it quite frustrating when i cant get a linux based phone to boot..
also to recovering the backup in clocksworkmod ... it didnt work, but it is probably corrupted from not being able to do a full backup of my phone.... if you or anyone else here who has a back on a htc desire please feel free to send me it
also to factory restore, formating cache still a no go im starting to lose hope already the phone hardware sense it fine its just the operating system thats bonkers
and finally i can understand you defending clocksmod and they have done a very good job but maybe next time they should warn us about this big bug thats in the backup process because this little piece of software has proberly bricked my phone from a tiny bug in the software
Well almost 900Mb is enough to back up your entire phone, unless you have a massif ext partition. So I doubt that is the problem but whatever.
If both the above steps didn't work (and you also clear dalvik cache) I suggest you just install a custom rom. If you don't know what you want or where to start, I suggest you start with Leedroid. If you have a ext partition on your sd card use the A2SD version, if you don't use NoA2SD version.
To install:
Download the rom.
Boot in to recovery.
Connect the phone to the pc.
Go to mounts and mount the sd as mass storage (or whatever it's called, should be the last option in the list if I remember correct)
Copy the rom to the sd. (not in any folder, just on the sd card)
Safely remove and unmount again.
Wipe data/factory rest, cache and dalvik again just to be sure.
Go to install zip form sd.
Chose zip form sd
Find the zip you just transferred and flash it.
Wait till it's done.
Reboot system. (this can take up to 10 minutes)
This should give you a booting phone again.

stuck at orange triangle.

I wiped /cache, /system, and dalvik and data. Then i tried selecting a zip file from my sd card but I was not able to do so. So i decided to power off the phone and enter recovery again but now I am stuck at the samsung galaxy triangle screen! what can i do to get out of this? This happened when I tried going from starburst 1.6 to viperROM v2.
Hey I had this same problem this afternoon and got it back to normal.
First I did a system restore following these steps,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282420&highlight=Eg30
Then with odin rerooted with zedomax's kernel
http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/Epic4GTouch/kernel/ZedomaxEpicTouchKernel//SPH-D710_Zedomax_EpicTouchKernel-v3.tar
And then flashed the new ROM following the format system, wipe everything, install zip method.
Hope this helps

Boot into CWM and reflash the starburst rom. wipe cache, wipe dalvik caches and format system under mounts and storage.
When this problem happened to me, my phone couldn't mount the internal storage device or the sd card so it wouldn't do even a normal boot, in CWM it couldn't find any ROMs to install, and I would get error messages when trying to wipe data etc. Then after a few reboots and battery pulls it was stuck at the yellow triangle screen. Download mode was the only thing it would boot into so I was forced to follow the steps described above.

(Noob) Wiping_Formatting

Sorry for asking so easy question but I am really not sure and I do NOT want to screw the things up:
So I have done everything up until :wipe all , factory reset , format !!(installing Flexreaper)
Unfortunately I do not see wipe all option and format options under Mounts & Storage are 6.
Could you please tell me 1,2,3 what EXACTLY to do in order to wipe my device the right way right before I flash the .zip FR ROM. I want to point out that I do NOT have an Micro SDHC card. I could buy one tomorrow if necessary or just temporary take the one from my SGS i9000.
P.S. I have just wipe/factory reset my a100 and I am literally waiting in the CWM -based Recovery v5.5.0.4 for you to tell me what to do.
Please help
When they say wipe all it usually means "wipe data/factory reset" and "format /system". I believe that the FR install script already format /system for you and wipe cache partition.
For Flexreaper, you should be okay to flash after "wipe data factory reset" since the script takes care of formatting /system. You can choose "format /system" from mount and storage if you want to make sure its wiped.
After you flash its usually a good idea to "wipe Dalvik cache" and "fix permission" under the advanced menu to get rid of any old ghosts from the previous rom.
THANK YOU!!!
what about the sd card. I have copied the .zip file in my 8gb a100 but after all those wipes is it lost?
I could add the sd card from my SGS just for the FlexReaper but I am not sure if it will recognize it now when I am already in CWM?
Thank you for your HELP!!!
GREAT
I DID IT!
It booted and now I am signing in to GooGle ACC
GPS Fail
Unfortunately as before I have a problem with the GPS. It just does not see even 1 satellite?! I do not know how to be sure if the device is defect.
Could somebody help?
I have just left it outside. I am going to wait 20min...if nothing it has to be broken/defect somehow

CWM recovery and Jelly Bean

I was one of the ones with problems with trying to restore nandroids and wiping data. I got stuck going from vicious JB v1 to V2 then back to v1. Somehow, after attempting to restore numerous nandroids of ICS and my nandroid of V1 I somehow got it to boot.
Now, I've noticed that whenever I boot into recovery if I go to "mounts and storage" I see cache is mounted. I can unmount it and make a nandroid. Then if I go back to "mounts and storage" I see data is mounted and wont unmount so when trying to restore a nandroid it hangs at the data part.
He is what I do that has been working for me.
Once in recovery, I go to mounts and storage and unmount cache. Make a nandroid. Go back to mounts and storage and see data is mounted and won't unmount. I then go to "advanced" and select reboot recovery. Once it reboots into recovery I go back to mounts and storage and see that data is unmounted. I then can restore a nandroid. I've done this successfully going from vicious v3 to BAMF v2 then back to vicous v3.
I just wanted to share this and hope it helps someone.
Thanks
Ddaaaaammmnnnn......I really wish I would have seen this earlier. Blew my phone up just to get it working again. Thanks for the info. I will know what to do next time.

Sorry, left out a step. After returning to recovery and finding data unmounted, I can then wipe data, system, and cache. I believe data is again mounted so go to advanced and reboot recovery again, go to mounts and storage and make sure everything is unmounted then restore your nandroid or install a new ROM.
I'm using CWM touch by the way.

If you have adb access when in recovery, see if you can run the following and have /data unmount
Code:
umount -l /data
You'll need to be root, and if you're already in the mounts and storage screen, you'll need to go back one, and then select mounts and storage again for it to refresh. Could be something is still being accessed when it attempts to unmount /data causing the issues.

I've finally got Vicious v3 set up to the way I like. I'll try that next time. Maybe somebody else will see this post and try it if they are stuck.
It's strange, I've flashed many ROMs in CWM touch with ICS with no issues. I saw one post where someone believed it had to do with a new "storage" folder that is created in JB. If you use a file explorer you'll see a "storage" folder and inside it it is linked to the sdcard.
Should cache be mounted when I first boot into recovery? I've never noticed that before but I haven't had a need to check until now.
Thanks for your response.

Based on your post and some testing, I made a guide for people... kind of a step by step thing. Let me know if this captures the jist of your experience. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749322
Thanks I was totally baffled yesterday when I did a full wipe and reflashed the rom only to find that my phone booted normally and all my apps and data were there. Whats the deal with getting stuck on the google screen though? Does it just take a long time? I needed my phone for work last night and couldnt wait, which is why I tried flashing a nandroid...
Step by Step
How to restore a Nandroid or flash new ROM with CWM Touch
In CWM Touch Recovery
1. Go to mounts and storage and unmount cache.
2. Make a nandroid. (Going back to mounts and storage, you will see data is mounted and will not unmount.)
3. Go to "advanced" and select reboot recovery.
4. Once phone reboots into recovery, go back to mounts and storage and see that data is unmounted. You may now wipe data, system, and cache.
5. You may now restore a nandroid or flash a new rom.
If this helped you, hit thanks. Also, thank hobby31.
Confirmed working going from vicious v1, back to a 4.04 nandroid.

I have been having a similar issue
I have tried several of the JB roms, and haven't found one that will let me reboot the phone. Every one get to the google screen and never past, and I ended up having to flash the stock rom before I can get anywhere. Anyone else having this issue or found a fix?

If it is what was happening to me and a few others it has something to do with the data not unmounting in CWM. I went through all the boot looping, stuck on the google screen, battery pulls and pulling my hair out. After some digging I noticed that data would not unmount in CWM so when I rebooted I quess it would hang somewhere while trying to load data. Essentially, when I was wiping data in CWM it looked like it was doing something but really wasn't.
My fix is what is in this post. Basically, going to "advanced" in CWM and "reboot recovery" usually unmounts the data then you can wipe it. Then reboot recovery again as it seems to get stuck mounted again after wiping. Then reboot the phone after making sure nothing is mounting in "Mounts and storage".

Not necessarily. I have tried both TWRP and CWM, and even CWM normal, and I am still screwed. Everytime I try to restore, I get an error restoring /data. Looks like I may be going back to stock.... This whole JB thing has made my Nexus feel like a Droid Bionic! :crying:
EDIT: Used the Gnex Toolkit, got back to stock, rooted and recovery installed and right back to AOKP 40. I think I will wait until this gets ironed out. Bit more work than I would like to crack flash.
Thanks for this!

Phone stuck on Splash Screen after OTA ICS

Looking for a little help for a friend of mine. Her E4GT is not rooted and yesterday she accepted the OTA update without an SD card present. I don't know what exactly happened but the aftermath resulted in her phone being stuck on the first splash screen. I booted into stock recovery and tried to apply the update manually but it aborts the install everytime saying:
Finding update package…
Opening update package…
Verifying update package…
Installing update…
file_getprop: failed to start “/system/build.prop”: No such file or directory
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip (status 7)
Install_package = (1)
INSTALLATION ABORTED.
From what I found this was caused by the system being wiped and then not being able to install the update because no sd card was present. She only cares about saving the pictures on the internal sd card because it has all her pics from her daughters 5th bday party last sunday. Besides trying to manually apply the update, I have also tried to adb backup but I get an error saying it can't connect to backup (apparently adb backup is a new feature to ICS and doesn't support GB).
I am looking for ideas to save her pictures and then wipe the phone and start over. Is Odin my only hope and will I lose the pictures if going this route? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Cliffs:
Not rooted, stuck on splash screen, have access to stock recovery and download mode, can't install update.zip
I would put the Phone in download mode and try a no data one click restore.
You could also try to install a custom kernel and recovery and use USB host in recovery to access the internal storage
From what I understand the internal storage shouldn't be wiped.
Don't kill me if I am wrong. Im
Fairly new to the e4gt so I've still got a lot to learn. But I'd give it a try. Since at this point the pictures are inaccessible you've almost got nothing to loose.
Good Luck

The internal storage acts like an SD card, it shouldn't ever get wiped except by the user doing a format of the internal. As long as you can get into a custom recovery, or booted into a rom anything on the internal SD will be intact. You can use Odin to do a full restore of a rom, Odin oneclicks are the easiest and safest for people unfamiliar with using Odin, or you can use regular Odin and place the el26+cwm kernel .tar.md5 in the PDA slot and flash it, once it starts to reboot hold power and volume+ until it boots into recovery and then you can mount the internal storage and transfer a rom.zip from the PC to flash in recovery, and also copy off anything in the internal SD you don't want to lose. If you use the Odin/kernel method the yellow triangle on the i9100 splash screen is normal and no harm has been done, this occurs when you flash an insecure kernel with a custom recovery via Odin. If you choose the recovery/kernel method to install a rom, make sure to wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache(under advanced options) before flashing the rom.zip

Thanks for the replys guys. I ended up using ODIN one click kernel w/ CWM5 and booting directly into recovery. I tried doing a backup but everything kept failing and I could only mount the sd card as USB not the internal. So I ended just using adb pull /emmc/DCIM DCIM\ and boom all her pictures were copied to the same folder as my platform-tools (all 1750 pictures she had lol)
I searched as much as I could and was pretty sure ODIN would leave internal storage alone I just needed a little reassurance especially after sprint tech told her the only thing they could do was wipe the phone and she would lose everything. Thanks again :good:
