It's funny you mention it...I just did this seconds ago. It stuck, works great. I dunno where you are going wrong.
Sure your saving the changes?
Does changing the density still get rid of movies in the market? Did this on my evo.

Lcd density doesn't work right with touchwize does it? You have to use a third party launcher?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Use rom manager... It works and sticks and you can change it back easily for the market

I had no luck trying to edit the build.prop but i found a free app on the market "LCD resolution" it doesn't work correctly with touchwiz like the person above mentioned but it works fine with other launchers. I'm using GoLauncher and it works great.
The reason I couldnt edit the build.prop is because I didn't have the correct permissions set. Used root explored to edit the permissions on the build.prop and it now accepts changes before it was read only.
Well I figured out that build.prop just isn't saving. I am rooted, using root explorer, R/W the system folder and then after editing the build.prop and saving, I'll open it back up and it didn't save.

I have hex edited my phone and I have changed everything back that I have done but for some reason this line in the call screen has not changed back to Sprint. I need to change everything back to stock but i cant get it to turn back. It is the line under the notifications bar.

Which method did you use to do the hex editing? Was it Jschisurf's method? If it was, I believe he had to two parts to that. The first was to edit the lock screen. The second was to edit the notification pull down. I'm not sure which one of those is responsible for the section in question. Have you changed what you originally edited for the lockscreen and the notification pull down? Both of the xml files?
I edited all three using j's method. I have changed them all back to Sprint but that is the only one not changing. It would help if I got my hands on the stock xmls. If anybody has them?
I forgot to mention everytime I flash a new Rom with sense it reverts all the edits that I have done (Karl phone) like they were defaults. Which I think is weird.

Hmm, I see. I wasn't even aware that he had 3 separate methods, lol. I knew of the lockscreen and the notification pull down. When I edited my banners, I used QPST to do it, and edited one name, but all 3 changed for me. The lockscreen, the notification pull down, and the call screen (as you showed). I wonder if you could use QPST to change it back? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889891&highlight=Edit+Sprint+Banner. Those are hte instructions I used. Although you probably have to undo it by the same method you originally did it.
Sorry I don't have more info for ya, I've never had to undo that mod before (yet). I can still only find 2 of jschsurf's methods, the lockscreen and notification pulldown. I must be missing the third one, cuz I can't seem to find it.
Good luck, hopefully someone can help you find the correct xml file.
The last one is for the aosp lockscreen
Edit: I used the QPST method and it worked. Thanks

Sweet, glad it worked. And good to know that it worked, just in case I need to undo what I've done someday also. Take care.

Just make sure you keep the QPST program on your comp. The link in the thread you referred does not work. I actually had the zip from October on my computer in the recycle bin. When I tried the method before and failed at it. The program recognized my phone right away this time.

I cant get it to change my desnsity permanently. I checked the box saying "save density as system density" with a setting of 200 and it wont ever hold at 200 through a reboot. What can i do to fix this?
Part of the problem may be that the ET4G doesn't use an LCD display.

That is definately not a part of the problem. I used the program but I have never tried to make it stick on reboot.
Thanks for the input genta. Hope some one with the answer stumbles through this thread!
What specific app are you using? I use LCD Resolution from the market, and setting it to "always set on boot" definitely works for me on every rom I've tried so far.
Did you check in settings the save as system density?

I know you clicked it. I ment was was it still checked after you reboot to make sure it was still checked? Should have explained better. Could you use the widget to apply the density? You just click the widget and it sets your saved density? Better than having to go into it I guess.

That's good to know that the other works like intended. Myself, I have always been nervous about having it set on boot incase something wonky is going on. Did you happen to let the dev know about the issue with this device.

Rom i am running (The Peoples Rom, has that one set to 320, So going off it)
I use root explorer... So your steps may differ a bit
Open Root explorer, Go to SYSTEM, Build.prop... Long press and edit in text editor.. scroll down till you see that line in the build prop, Edit number , Save, Reboot phone. Now your density will change to set number. (I used to run higher on my OG epic) Hope it helps..
Just remember original setting if you don't like what it's changed to. You can also edit build.prop and add the soft keys (Nexus style) as well.
If i'm wrong somoene chime in.

Mount it as R/W (top option) it mounts as R/O normally. if you don't mount as R/W then won't save.

Whatever you do don't just blindly change your pixel density without knowing how it works. One of the posters said change it to a higher number, yeah right, is he nuts? the higher the number the less sharp and more chance your phone won't boot up, it's actually the lower the number the sharper the better so he got all his stuff twisted, he needs to go relearn.
Changing your dpi to something higher than what your actual screen supports is a guaranteed way to get softbricked and you will have to restore with odin.
Your screens pixel density can't be increased because its hardware physical pixels that were manufactured with in the first place so by lowering the pixel density from lets say in my case 306 for my galaxy s3 down to 240 I get a much crisper display with more room and also 720p movies look very good.
Are there any disadvantages to lowering the density?

If i stated to go wrong direction, thanks for the correction, I haven't messed with it on my S3, just did on my OG Epic.. No disadvantages that ive seen.. just everything is smaller on screen. Still looks good. I'm running stock 320 on my S3 for now.. Don't see a need to change it yet. Thanks again.
Lowering the dpi to 240 or even 260 has 2 benefits, one you get more room so you can fit more icons and everything and even have more dock items too and second benefit is that when you get more room for things and you see smaller icons etc that means they look more high def so everything you see becomes high def since things are not all huge and up in your face because the bigger something is the more pixellated it is get it? so i would definately go for at least 260 but 240 is even better.
I mean just think about it, you have a 4.8 inch display and huge things like widgets are taking up most of your screen so by going down to 240 you turn your screen into more tablet like with more room for you to put and do whatever you need. It's like i'm using galaxy tab 2 right now with dpi at 240.
ive just recently rooted the phone and ive been looking everywhere for a way to change the touch screen sound on the phone i cannot find the path to the file i need in order to change it. i got a zelda type theme going on for my phone and want to change the touch screen sound to the sound when link picks up a heart. can it be done and how?
thanks in advance!
Fixed I figured out the file is named effect_tick.ogg
So get a new file rename it to that and good to go
