I just purchased a Defy, on Vodafone, my first android phone. After noticing a few of my friends' phones, I soon realised I was well up for it, and after stumbling upon a website that compares specs, price, allsorts of things, decided the Defy was a nice entry point to the ever expanding world of android.
As soon as I got it, I plugged it straight in and hustled about for how to get Froyo on it, I'd seen it running and played about with it a couple of times and for some reason Eclair seems a bit of a lemon to me. Lucky enough, not long ago the official 2.2 was released for UK Defy.
And that is what I am still running now, after installing cyanogenmod 5 on my mate's G1 (thrown right in at the deep end there, especially when 6 runs so huffy) and doing a few other daft jobs like frankensteining two old Sony Ericsson C902's to sell as one, I've found myself with not a lot of time spare with the internet and a data cable. However, I have had a bit of a fiddle, including root, ADW launcher, overclocking to 1ghz @ 50mv and a nice selection of lovely apps and gadgets.
After a few days though I noticed that when you muck around with your phone all the time your battery takes a hammering. I took a bit of a gamble here and purchased a 2430mAh battery off ebay for like 13 quid or something. Yeah, cheap chinese goods. While I was at it I picked up a 16gb sd card, class 10 apparently for another £12 (I don't know whether to believe the class 10, I could never remember what app I used to rumble the '32gb' micro sd I got for cheap last year - turned out to be a 2gb. That's ebay...), both came two days later and i fitted them.
Now, at first, I thought the battery was a full on con, it lasted no longer than my stock one before it was telling me i had 1% charge, and I duly slomp over to the charger (I'm using circle battery widget, is this known for its accuracy?). But then I started noticing that my battery was running down to 1% round about half three, four o' clock, and it was staying at 1% until i got home at 5. Then I forgot to charge it overnight and it was knocking on 1% at mid day, so I put it into ultra power saving mode (not an actual mode, obvious face) and, weird, it was still chugging along by 5.
Something very fishy indeed, I thought, though not for the worst...
2 o' clock today, it was saying 1%. I didn't care, Friday afternoons mean sit about in the yard and check out sickipedia and ebay for an hour or two so I kept on using it - full brightness for the sun (hot today wasn't it?), wifi on and browsing internet while skipping back and forth to youtube, sent and received the odd text too...
By 4 o' clock I had mentioned it to the fellas at work and it was starting to become a bit of a novelty. I did think as well, that I'd maybe not yet fully decharged the battery (what with rushing to the charger at the slightest hint of 1%, 'cos let's face it, that ****'s scary to look at when you got 5 browser windows open and you can't work out how to check your history after a reboot), and maybe it would be a good idea to discharge that, to reset the battery meter to my new battery.
So I left the brightness all the way up and intermittently until ten o' clock, surfed the web, played some games, fiddled with ethereal dialpad and generally gave it a bit of nuisance. By ten o' clock, I was really getting sick - this was about eight hours since it had first told me it only had indeed 1% of battery life left - so I started going nuts. I opened the market and just kept scrolling down the top free list, loading the content off my wifi (and downloading a few, but man I just hate ads..), plugged my hifi into it and played the only album I have at top 'media volume' (in connected music player, although I want something sleeker. Blacker. Quicker), got another 3 or 4 tabs up in browser, turned off all the low battery measures in setvsel, and rocked out a few minutes of the latest QI on iplayer. And this carried on for hours, At around twelve I decided to get the flashlight on too but after a while you realise you're having no fun (I haven't found a standalone flash light for the defy so I have been using video recorder mode and that's a chew on).
And finally, at 20 past 1, it died. But it was what happened during the power down that had me amazed...
You know those circuit bent gameboys and chiptune machines that create all sorts of 8 and 16 bit glitches and woops, this little beast started doing that - about half as loud as the music it pushed out of the way, and lasting for the whole blurry, dim shut down screen.
I don't know if this happens often, or if it was because I was halfway through downloading Cars and Guns (still didn't run that fresh on this) and a few other tasks, but it sounded awesome, I half thought it would bust out into a filthy beat.
I'm gonna charge this crazy fiend up and when it eventually does run out again, I'm gonna try and catch that effect and record it.
Has anyone else noticed this before or was it just a one-time glitch? I'd love to hear it mixed into some dirty beats (the breakdown in the android orchestra)
And hell, what a device, all my 'with it' buds show me their iPhones and how they can 'change their themes' and 'shoot in hdr' and 'turn it on its side, see?'
I laugh in their direction and stroke my Defy.

Hi guys, Im new to the forum and figured there would be some pretty cluey tech guys on here to ask some questions/raise concerns of mine.
I have a HTC one X and it has the banding issues, especially when running games or youtube. It also makes click or pops in my headphones when scrolling. The battery is very random, one day I got an amazing 16 hours with moderate/solid use (2.5hours talk time, lots of internet, bluetooth andWIFI on, etc), but then the day before I got maybe 6.5 hours.
The whole warming up thing is a non issue, its a quad core device in a 8mm shell - its going to get warm I belive.
But the above issues are real, Ive never seen this ugly banding or green static down the left side of the screen? Crazy and ugly!
My iPhone 4S was having some battery issues when i first got it, and would drain in 4 hoursm but once fixed it can last with bluetooth and WIfi on the whole time, about 18-24 hours no prob on a regular day for me.
Obiously HTC is more power hungry, more pixels (double) and quad core etc... but why is it random?
Oh yeah the last problem, when I used the camera, 2 issues.
1. It started flashing white screens on and off.
2. It doesnt record audio sometimes.
Sorry but this is horrible and how long does HTC take with the updates, I know apple usually 2-4 weeks.
Any help or suggestions? Ive had a SGS2 before as well, and although not as impressive and having an ugly UI, it was stable.
I'm with you on the battery, it doesn't make sense at the best of times.
I am yet to get more than 3 and half hours on screen time (real usage) yet though and i'm on about my 7th or 8th charge cycle.
This is good as it gets I fear.
It is a little strange that it could be so bad, and they made the battery non-removable? Surely they tested it and found they could make it last a whole day (12-16 hours moderate use) Its a mobile phone, not a home phone.

Regrading glitches if your are getting them on the side of the screen and while gaming and camera, you might have a defective unit i advice you call HTC
However make sure you have non of the develop options enabled, they look like bugs when enabled if you didn't know what you are doing
Try the tips in here first http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590956
Random battery has to do with android and there might be an app in the background eating it or something off in the firmware, an update regarding this is imminent
HTC usually is generous on updates, major OS updates take up to 6 months, bug fixing small updates doesn't usually take long two updates can happen in the same month, flagship phone get the priority in updates
I went on a road trip this weekend to visit family. It was a nightmare. All my personal trials behind, when I finally arrived well behind schedule, I reached for my phone as I got out of the car and noticed it was sitting in a cup half full of melted slushy, and based on when my Sync said it disconnected from bluetooth, had probably been sitting there for at least two hours (I was more worried about driving in the mountains with a fussy baby than why my phone's bluetooth shut off, so I didn't give it a second thought). It refused to power on so I put it in some rice overnight. The next morning it still wouldn't turn on. I plugged it in and tried again and still nothing, but after a few minutes I got a consistent blinking red light. I didn't think there was much hope, and I didn't have any way to look up information as I was basically in the middle of nowhere.
When I finally got home, I took it apart and was impressed by how easy it was compared to my last several phones. My GSIII was in mint condition before this incident, so I hadn't needed to disassemble it yet, but I was surprised that there was no need to pry open taps with a credit card or anything silly like that. Everything was sticky, but I cleaned it with lots of isopropanol and made sure all of the circuitry above the screen was nice and shiny. I put it all back together and to my amazement it booted right up! It wouldn't charge because the battery overheated but I applied a little thermal paste to where the processor sits (there is a pad that looks like thermal paste there that was a bit tattered) and now I've been running Pandora for an hour and my battery temp is sitting between 19 and 25 C. I'm sure there are lingering issues, but I am so satisfied and so happy that the phone was this resilient. I'm posting this to share my joy but also to give hope to anyone else that might come under similar circumstances. The phone is apparently very well built and a little cleaning can go a long way.
Awesome! Glad it survived.
Unfortunately, I have high expectations for my GS3. I beat the hell out of my Epic and it kept on going. I am planning to be nicer to my GS3, but honestly, it's probably like a new year's resolution....
So... Im getting back my recently purchased Galaxy Note 2014 White Wifi 32GB for another one. Thanks god the shop gave 15 days in order to see if something went wrong.
Here is the point: Once the battery reach some percent between 20-30%, suddenly, just in a second, it drops till 10%, and seconds later, to 5%. No root, no apps opened, no strange software installed, Samsung Motion options used (except some S-pen functions) or Devs options touched, i checked out all this things after it happened the first time. I only used it to search on Firefox, write/read PDFs with ezPDF, see some movies or see how Real Racing 3 or Dead Trigger would see on the screen.
No idea about whats going on.
In adition, im worried about this tablet´s heating. Sometimes gets alarming and it feels pretty uncomfortable, as you feel something could break bad inside if so much heating is hitting the hardware, and men, im just using 3 simple apps at a time. I get Real Racing 3 use GPU really hard but... it feels moron as this game hasnt been update so it can use high graphic settings on this tablet.

You ha e a defect. Mine never gets alarming hot. It gets warm when playing big games, but so do all tablets. You can feel something break inside? Send it back.
So, I decided to go for one more exchange on my watch, taking up the offer of the BB manager that they would take it back after the 15 day period. After it started with the sudden drop in battery, which was very bad today, 40% in 2 hours, plus the difficulty with the charger and the HRM not working, I decide it was worth another go. Turns out the local BB just got a new shipment in. So, I actually went in and bought another one, before giving up the one I had. No red tint, the battery charger is nice and tight, it clicks right in and starts charging, and, the HRM actually works. I don't know how well yet, but decidedly better than the last one which wouldn't record more than a few seconds. This one successfully recorded HR for 15 minutes continuously without any freezes. So, more testing to do on the HRM, but, so far looks like it was a good decision to go back for another one. Already took the other one back and got the refund. :fingers-crossed:
Cool. I am tempted by this watch but it looks like it's a lotery to have a good one (not red tint, good battery...)
Yeah, I think Huawei has some QC issues. Now, whether the watch I just got came from a different batch, and they did something in the interim to fix some of the problems, or if it is just a hit or miss thing, hard to say at this point. If we start getting a lot of reports of more recently purchased watches having few problems, that might suggest the former. The battery issue could still crop up though. This watch out of the box seems to be getting much better battery life.
Hi,
Looking for a wee bit of guidance, from the experts here, prior to taking some drastic measures.
I've had my Z1C for just over 2 years (I just switched over to a sim only deal a couple of weeks ago). I'm quite happy with everything, and it still runs fine - apart from what appears to be a dodgy battery life. Battery has always been fine, until about the last month, when I noticed things becoming a bit funny.
Here's a screenshot of what happened yesterday, when I got home. I put my phone in my gym bag around 1930 (when the network went red), and then got home around 2200. When I got home, it was still in my gym bag, although would be connected to wifi. I went to bed kinda late at 0230 (ooops), and when I got it out my bag (I use it for my alarm), I was amazed to find it completely dead. Can anyone explain why it appeared to lose 50% of battery within a few minutes??
Should I do a factory reset?? Is the battery totally gone, and am I looking for a new phone??
Many thanks in advance!!

Hard to say after only 1 time. Wait it out and see if it happens again, it could have been a fluke. It's fairly common - http://forum.xda-developers.com/son...ttery-reporting-phone-dying-suddenly-t3095120

@levone1, many thanks for the link. I'm not a frequent visitor here, and hadn't done a thorough search. That thread will be interesting reading.

Just for anyone reading this - my phone is experiencing the same problems - shutting off with anywhere from 40-60% battery left. I've read through the thread linked above, and the only resolution is a replacement battery.
I've ordered a battery and replacement rear cover from www.replacebase.co.uk, which should arrive early next week. I'll do the fix and report back.

Battery and replacement rear cover arrived on Saturday morning - less than 48 hours after placing the order. I followed any one of the numerous videos on youtube showing phone dissassembly and battery replacement, and all went fine. Phone is like new now. You do have to carefully remove the NFC sticker and transplant it onto the new battery - make sure to line up the little pressure connectors.
Again, many thanks to @levone1 for his help.
Have you wiped your system battery stats file? Have you changed your ROM recently? If both questions have the answer "NO" - it is worth it to find some guides (here in XDA) for deleting the battery stats - it isn't guaranteed to actually notice any difference, but it is good to try (especially now, with the new battery)
I'm waiting for my replacement battery too as I suspect that my battery is going to be dead soon. It is heating up rapidly when the charge is below 20-15%.
same here. it lasts for past few months, persists thru rom variations (cm, aosp, stock) and sometimes gets better for a while but goes bad again. suddenly drops from anything above 50% to as low as about 20%, and then to zero & shut down in matter of minutes. back on charger it goes from zero to 100% in about 15 minutes, i guess my charger evolved overtime to extra quick one. lately the full charged battery doesn't lasts morning to afternoon with moderate usage. as the behaviour persists between roms and as there are no suspicious wakelocks either, i guess its hardware thing not fixable by wiping battery stats or similar mumbo-jumbo, so i replaced battery the other day and now the phone is perfectly fine again.
however, as there are a large (and growing) number of similar posts and same-looking screenshots all around, device is circa two years old, and minding that the battery isn't replaceable easily like "open the back cover and replace", it all looks like sony managed to put two-year batteries inside waterproof case that goes dead just by the end of usual user's contracts, so you could either go to service for replace or - yes you're right - buy a new device by the end of contract for us that aren't on the contract but we did unlock the bootloader the price of official-service is sky high because of unlocked bootloader, at least in my country. in the end it's all corporate math, pardon my conspiracy theory
Google "google play services 9.2.56 battery drain" and you see people with all sorts of phones and tablets having the same issues.*
