Recommended apps and LED notifier - G2 and Desire Z Themes and Apps

ive seen similar threads in other phone categories but id like to know the G2/Desire Z users opinions on what they think enables them to get the most out of their phone so: What apps can you not do without? whats your favorite app and why?
whether its to do with your launcher, icons, task manager or mods i think everyone should give comment on their favorite app!
also does anyone know of a working LED notifier for the G2/Desire Z (LED Me Know doesnt work for me)
Using Virtuous Unity

Apps in general, I look at what's the top rated in market and new ones in the list. Led app is light flow. Its works great! Of course, you need root access.

As far as the led notifier..if you are trying to change colors on led's you cant.

Well green/orange/white don't count I guess...

ty for light flow ill check it out!
i was thinking of the apps that other users think are their favorite and what ones they would recommend to others as being a time saver or fun or intresting or customizable or whatever they think should be mentioned
i wanted the LED notifier just to distinguish between notifications. orange fast/slow green fast/slow is good enough

The following apps I find very useful: quick settings, kid mode (if your kids are allowed on your phone , ebuddy xms (very nice free chat programm messages always arrive and you see when they are read, this is just my experience), sms backup & restore is my friend and at the moment I am addicted to wordfeud (...)

It's a bit like whattsapp. What I like about it that its free (i hope stay free) and you can see if the other person read it or not. First I used google talk but many messages are lost from me or the sender...

I loaded swipe pad after seeing it recommended on Gizmodo. It's a very nice application switcher, free, but with some other add-ons you can purchase cheap for it.

Super Power XDA

Good morning people
I had a small request to you. If any of you used SuperPower XDA?
If so, what settings do you have? Since I am from Germany. I look back through not quite.
Can someone send me his is satisfied with the settings? From top to bottom.
I would be really grateful.
Nobody uses SuperPower?
I do. But there's a lot of settings. Are there any specific ones you want to know about?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
For best all of the settings.
Im sorry about this but i not realy understand english.
I want lower baterry drain. But i also want my Whatsapp and Gmail Notifications because i use it very much.
Thank you a lot
I enabled everything except 2g/3g toggle and secure settings. The toggle takes far too long, and I am concerned about the stability of secure settings.

Self explore this apk, and you will see what settings is best for you. But Super Power dont work very well on Gingerbread XXJVK by me, on Android 2.1, 2.2, and 2.2.1 was exellent (always my first installed apk after flashing new firmware)
Regards
Okay thank you.
Can i get than the notificationsfrom gmail and WhatsApp?
Oka yia m on JVK
I read in the superpower thread that it cannot manage gingerbread data as it currently does on froyo.......

Full Screen Pop-Over Ads...

Are full screen pop over ads going forward the new norm on xda? If so i guess we just have to live w/ it, but ads like this are incredibly annoying...
Happened to me the first time I logged in today but thats it.
I've gotten it on my phone and on my computer the last few days...
Are you talking about accessing xda on a laptop or on a phone's browser/app? Its happened to me viewing the web version from my phone. Really annoying.

I have seen this on so many tech sites lately. I am just doing the nasty thing and using ad-block for chrome. I wouldn't use it if the ads weren't as intrusive but these are just silly.
You are using chrome.. is there no AdBlock-Addon??
Never seen that

All the forum sites are using pop up ads, flash, etc. these days, and it freezes the browser momentarily at times.
That's why I use Tapatalk-based Android apps like this one.
Too bad I can't see all the fancy signature blocks, etc. but I can see & reply to messages quickly.

We are not choosing to put pop-over ads on XDA. If you see them, please screenshot them and send it to "svetius".
Full screen ads on my Gingerbread Nook Color are a total fail! I usually don't mind ads, but this is going too far.

Yeah, this totally sucks, and could be a reason for me to not visit XDA. When I'm viewing this on a phone, it's ridiculously tedious to close the damn thing down on a small screen.

Porting Smart Stay?

Is someone working on porting the smart stay feature from the Galaxy s3 to the s2?
Skickat från min GT-I9300 via Tapatalk 2
I wonder if it is possible 'cause of the difference in hardwarr
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Pretty sure Smart Stay just uses the front camera to see if you are still there. Can't see why it wouldn't work but might be a battery drain. Also not sure if it has hooks into the new touchwiz, which people are looking at porting at present.
No need to port. Use the app called "Super video, floating & popup" from the play store. Works well on the sgs2

Smart Stay is the one which uses the front camera to track your eye to determine whether you are looking at the screen or not. That's Pop-up play you mentioned. I wouldn't use that crappy, buggy & ****ty app though. Hope Pop-Up play is more stable..

There is no reason, why it should not bepossible to use smartstay on any other mobile phone.
It's only a additional setting that tells the phone to look what the user does after a special time. if you look on it, camera will recognize it and a software will tell the phone, hey user is lookin' at me. thats all.
btw the camera hardware (front and back) of s2 and s3 is completely the same, if you don't believe me, ask samsung, they said that in an official statement.
So is anyone working on getting the Smart Stay feature to our beloved s2??
Is Smart Stay inplemented in TW because i cant find it as an special apk, can anyone help me??
Seriously is noone interested in fixing the SmartStay feature from the GT-I9300 to GT-I9100??
You know it's the feature that keeps the screen on as long as u look at it...
Stop begging and bumping your thread, this will only push devs away from even bothering helping.
If you want it so much look into porting it yourself.

I use twitter and faceache and find android pro widgets ( APW ) an absolute gem and don't even need the official apps along side.
Another is whizz widgets which give a very nice stack feature but not sure how it will run on willy, again no need for official apps as it pulls data from web.

Thanks. Gonna try em all. Yeah, compatibility on willy is also important. Also the data usage coz i dont have 3g or edge. I only have wifi at home so have to adjust to that.
With Tweetdeck, i dont miss a single tweet even if i log after 8 hours.
Widgets are also great in battery drain and so with willy, that another thing to keep in mind.

I was with wildfire for a long time and battery etc was never really affected by apw for me as you can set manual update refresh so it never pulls data until you decide same goes with whizz. Bonus is you get many other widgets too which in return can replace other apps etc so battery usage balances itself out in effect.
I wouldn't recommend to anybody a battery hogging app nor any app I hadn't used and tested myself. Apw is an app I will always use as its a favourite for sure.

"Chat heads" coming soon to Paranoid Android ROM

Anyone see this yet?
www.phandroid.com/2013/04/30/paranoid-android-chat-heads-notifications-multitasking/
That would be awesome if someone brought it to regular SMS texts, could this be brought to CyanogenMod 10.1 ?

That would be sweet. And if it gets enough support it may well be integrated into CM or have a separate app like PIE did

Based on their Google+ page this won't be as simple to put into other ROMs as Pie. They said that there is a lot of new code and changes made that will make it very difficult to put into other ROMs. I guess we'll see though.
I guess I just don't see the point. It's always awesome to have new features implemented, buy why? What does this solve that the notification bar does not already do? Maybe I'm just not getting it.

Facebook Messenger chatheads are the main inspiration behind this. They say that the way the notification shade works now interrupts the flow of using your phone too much. This is supposed to remedy that by making it more accessible.

So if you've never used the feature, why talk bad about it?
But..its good to use as you can stay in a app and still easily send messages and see what they say and a picture can also be shown of said contact which is what's in the "bubble"
Quite frankly it blows my mind none of these other big names in instant messaging apps haven't even bothered to take this and adapt to their own.
I give props to the dev team behind Facebook for thinking it up.
I used it on iOS but to my surprise after using it on Android its severely limited on iOS that you can only use the chat heads or bubbles while only be in the actual Facebook Messenger app. On Android as long as your signed in you can get these little contact bubbles anywhere, and you can move the bubble anywhere on the corners of the screen or drag and drop to the trashcan to close it.
Here's Facebook Messenger chat heads being demoed

In no way did I "talk bad" about it. I stated very clearly, several times, that I do not understand the novelty of it. I did not, previously, understand what it offers over the notification drop-down. Now I do understand.
Thanks for explaining.
Here's a video preview of Halo
It's looking good so far, I can't wait to try it out!
Looks promising, though if it would hide more than 15% of the halo bubble, say, adjustable up to 90% hidden or transparent when not in use, that would make it a must have for every custom ROM.

I'm sure there will be options to be able to customize how it's hidden.
So technically this iantvlike multi window where you can do 2 things side by side
Its cool but I rather cornerstone if any developers dare To try as was done with the tf300

I would totally switch to pa for this.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
I don't understand why other ROM Devs won't put this in their ROM ..this is basically rewriting the way Android does notifications and for the better IMO
So if the other ROM devs won't jump on this I'll be jumping ship to PA ROM also.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
I'd really like to see some competition between PA and, idk CM or AOKP to get notifications done right.
PA I think is on track, but it would be interesting to see something like the bb10 hub (or an inspired new concept... Not just a Facebook feature ripoff) in CM or AOKP. Just to see what school of thought may win.
