Anyone find a way to remove this? Guess it might be built in the settings.apk from what I read but I am trying to see if anyone has successfully removed it?
No its built way to deep to remove it.

It's part of settings.apk and cannot be removed. I'm just waiting for it to get hacked like it was on the Epic 4g.

It COULD be removed... Its a PITA though. There was a dev over at SDX that managed to do it for the Moment, but really, even he said it was just easier to not click on the hotspot icon.
Bummer. O well I'm sure someone will figure it out sooner or later...not a huge deal.

The hacked sprint hotspot works much better, gives infrastructure mode and faster speeds. When it becomes available for this phone you should try it.

Yep, sure does. I've only had 4 devices connected at once, so I can't say how many it will support, but it worked great on an 8 hour drive to NYC with 4 teenagers in the car.
Cool, Thanks a lot!!! Now I can get rid of that extra $30...LOL
Which program do I need to load from Market for the WiFi Tethering?
Don't get the one from the market. Do a Google search for "Wireless Tether For Root Users" and get the latest version, which I believe is -pre9.

The one from the market didn't work for me either, I googled wtfr and downloaded it right from there site.

I didn't do any kind of speed test on the trip, but when I've tested in the past, the download speeds were almost exactly what they were when tested on the phone itself. That speed, of course, varies quite a bit, but in general it should be nearly as fast as normal speeds on the phone.
I had nothing to do with creating this. Just thought you guys would want to know that the lastest Wifi tether has been uploaded and it's supports Infrasructure Mode on 2.2 ROMs (Including CM6)
Major props to Harald Mueller for this! Don't hesitate to donate for all this guy's hard work!

What did you hit to make it reboot? It did reboot once when I turned the tether off but I don't know if it's done that consistently.

It's definitely just as fast or faster than mobile AP was.
do we still require a kernel that supports this? or has anyone gotten it to actually work. i know its an experimental build, but it didnt work for me. my lappy could see it, which is good because it cant even see ad hoc, but it failed connecting.
edit: hmmm, ya i see now its working for you. i still have old wifi tether installed, maybe thats it?
ok last time i mess with that, For heads up dont mess with any of the sprint stuff, it makes your phone reboot then makes it pop up an error when trying to connect, if you do just clear the app data and start over and it seems to work now

No. The app "talks" directly to the kernel. There is "something" implemented in the framework which detects that necessary kernel-setup-steps were performed.
It's not using the official hotspot-app/feature at all - only kernel-stuff (that's why it even works on CM6).

So this is the same as MobileAP(works on ps3)?

Well i guess if i could unistall the sprint hotspot some how i could, avoid that, the only reason it pops up is because this app uses the official sprint hotspot stuff, as seen in the mobile ap thread, someone bought the subscription and helped this guy make this work.

You could try ... but I think that notivication is triggered by the "system-framework" and not by the hotspot-app. The key were some dmesg-dumps to see which parameters are passed to kernel. Since I know the bcm4329-driver a little bit it was not that hard ... but it took some time and around 70 mails to/from "formula84" (the guy who was very helpful with testing/logs).
Would like to know if it's possible to reinstall the sprint wifi hotspot app after upgrading to CM7.
I know there is one that it's built in but work pays for the hotspot and I'd like to test and see what the differences are.
If I'm not mistaken the sprint hot spot app only works with sense man not cm7. Try wifi tether from the market.

Tis correct, but on the other hand, wireless tether won't work on CM7, and if you do use it, you'll have to reboot to get wifi working. He'd have to use barnacle tether, which doesn't tether 4G. If you need to 4G tether, you'd have to flash over to sense to use, or use the native teher or barnacle if on CM7.

The wireless tether app works, just not on gingerbread. So it'll work on sense roms. And you need a netfiler enabled kernel as well. But on sense, you can use it just fine, on CM7, ect, it hangs on the starting tether, back out, then it starts with errors, then you have to reboot to get your wifi working.
Hum I'm connected with the CM7 tethering app on 4g as I type this now.
It's works perfectly for me.
I wonder if it's due to the fact that I pay for the hotspot service?
I also did the gps And vvm fix.

What I think is going on is, it says you're connected to "4G" but when you run a speed test it doesn't get 4G speeds that it would on your actual phone. Its been a debate for a while now. That's what people mean when they say 4G tethering doesn't work. You should speed test 4G while tethered, the test it on phone only.

That's correct, you can be on 4G, but it'll only tether 3G speeds.
I've tested it myself.
Speed test using same app and same pop EVO is the hotspot IPad is client
EVO 3.80 Mbps down 1.18 Mbps up
iPad 4.0-2.8 Mbps down 1.00 Mbps up
Also no issue with using wifi after tethering.
So, I just got my S3 today and immediately rooted it. I mainly just want to tether wirelessly. I don't care to flash new ROMS just yet.
Anyway, before I froze the Sprint Hotspot app with Titanium, I opened up the app just to look around. On my old school Evo 4G it would always tell me I would need to activate the service to use the feature. I just used the free android tether.
I started it up and it is working? I tethered it to my iPad... Is this normal?
I didn't get a notice that it's a paid app or anything.
I checked my account, online, and it still shows wireless hotspot as an option to subscribe to, but it is not listed as part of my plan options.
I am wondering if I use it if Sprint is going to just add it to my bill. When I was with Tmobile I got EDGE data for free for 2 years because of some glitch... I lost it when I upgraded.
Maybe this is a similar glitch? Just wondering of this has happened to anyone else?
No, they can't just add it to your bill. It either works or doesn't work.
In your case, it must just be a favourable fluke that it is working, but I'll wager that eventually down the road you'll get the standard message about subscribing to a hotspot plan.
On a side note, have you tried FoxFi? It's a tether app that does not require root.

I can CONFIRM that the current version of foxfi does not work on an unrooted Sprint SGS3. Also, the android-wifi-tether is not working, either, on a ROOTED Sprint SGS3 (LG2 - haven't tried it with LG8 release yet).
Sprint seems to be trying pretty hard to prevent its users from wifi tethering (without one of their wifi data plans).
On my current phone foxfi and the andorid tether app both act up. They let me connect for a while and then they just stop working. It may be the phone though. If I do usb tether though I can stay one for days.

Never tried foxfi unrooted but can confirm it doesn't work on my rooted phone. WiFi tether works just fine for me tho(on all modems: Len,lf9,lg2,lg8). I think the problems people are having is just because of the phone being new. I don't think iT has anything to do with sprint trying to block it.

No it will not work tether. They changed. It on lg g3
Most of the MODs don't work on the G3, so far, at least none that I have seen/tried so far. It has to do with the way the G3 uses the APN and IPv6 (IPv4 works, but LTE is spotty and it also breaks tether, from what I've read), ThePagel can explain is far better than I, if he so wishes.
The best way to get it to is via the app "Wifi Tehther App", which works perfectly and masks your tether use as mobile data use and not as hotspot use.
