Quick question. - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

How much money is required to walk into the store, and get a full upgrade to the E4GT? I figured I'd ask people who already got it. I know it ends up being $199, but I need to know how much to take in with me.

Are you talking about with tax?
If so, take 199.99 times 1.xx (xx being your states sales tax) and you'll get the answer.

Is there any kind of rebate I should take into account too? I've determined that if its $199+tax, its just under $220, but I thought there was some kind of rebate too, so that means i'd need more. Thanks for helping though.

The phone is $499.99 then with rebates which are applicable only if you have an upgrade available (or new line), its $199.99 + tax.

Yeah there's no mail in or anything. Just 199+ tax
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium

So it like this.
499 full price
-150 (for upgrade)
-150(mail in? Instant rebate?)
=$199 + tax
That right?

It's all instant rebates.
Just take $199.99 + tax with you.
Or get a debit card like the rest of the world.
Or bill to your account while you still can.

1: I thought you actually had to have the money for the "rebate" with you? Can you explain why this wouldn't be the case?(I don't understand instant rebates anyways, seem pointless to me)
2: I'm 17, and on my parents account lol
3: I can't upgrade till Oct 5th, since that's when I was supposed to turn sprint premier gold, and since that's three day after the policy change, I'm still allowed to turn gold and get the upgrade before going to the New for you thing.

The mail in rebates are ones that you have to send in and wait six to right years for.
Instant rebates are just discounts at purchase. [Like how a product is on sale for a lower price at a grocery store. The difference of course is that you must be eligible for an upgrade to qualify for that instant rebate]

So, essentially I save 300 when using a full upgrade, instead of 150. Why not just merge the 150 upgrade discount and "instant rebate" into one discount lol

In contract with photon, any way out?

Any tips on how to get out pf my current contact? Can I cancel and pay the $200 ETD and pay $200 for the 4g touch, then sell the photon?

The cancellation fee is now $350. So the total price for you to cancel and get the new phone would be the same as buying the new phone out of contract.
He would pay the cancellation fee associated with his contract; the $350 just went into effect so I doubt that would be his ETF if he's had the photon for 30 days.

Best idea... just buy out the phone on the contract for $200 and then sell it and buy a epic touch for $499. Total cost after selling the phone might be $300-350 but still less than the $499.... You might gain $100-$150 back from selling the photon after paying the $200.
buy it retail, sell photon for $300 and only be out of pocket 200. thats what i would do

Lucky lucky you. There was an administrative fee increase, which voided your contract. You can call in and cancel without ETF. Make sure you tell them you want to transfer your number out.

Consumers
Effective 9/9/11, the Administrative Charge
will increase to $1.50 per line for customers
that receive the charge. For details, visit

That may get you out of your etf, but it does not reset your upgrade eligibility. You could cancel your whole line and get another with the upgrade price, but i believe you would have to wait 30 days to do that.

I did it like 3 weeks ago had 2 evos for 2 months and got out with no ETF. Use what the previous poster said about the admin fee and the arbitration clause changing. If they say no you can't call back and get someone new to talk to. I think you have to wait 45 days to go back though.

Funny..I called Retentions and they told me its a no go on the airrave route and when I asked about the cancellation of my acct. Without an etf due to billing change he said that was a 'nasty' rumor and that its in the contract everyone signed ..

I hate it when Sprint reps do this. Be consistent. I was able to cancel my contracts.
I'm also disappointed because yesterday I talked to a chat representative who confirmed with me that I could use my airrave upgrade to get the Epic Touch. He told me to call telesales to place the order. I spoke to a telesales representative and he then confirmed that I could use the upgrade but that I would have to call back today since the Epic Touch came out today. I call and they tell me, sorry, that's not true. I've had this happen to me on multiple occasions. One rep tells me something, and then one rep tells me the complete opposite. It's pretty aggravating.

Why don't you guys quit trying to screw the system and just buy the damn phones.
You can sell any of the current crop of smartphones for 3-400 bucks right now, and then buy whatever you want for full price.
If you don't have the money, upgrade your lemonade stand.

Returning my touch!

But for different reasons I got so anxious I went and got it at best buy for $199. Well I found out MA has recently implemented tax on the retail price so I had to pay $480 for 2 phones + $72 for 2 activation's. I am so returning these back to best buy and picking them up from Amazon next week when activation's are free. So instead of spending like $550 it will be $300 straight up... so much better.

you STILL have to pay the $36 dollar activiation upgrade fee. YOU WILL NOT pay it at the store it goes on YOUR FIRST BILL Through Sprint Directly., they are not waving the fees anymore.
The Rep at sprint told it doesnt matter where you buy it from online or Retail at Best Buy, the HIDDEN fee will show up on your next Bill regardless he said, its the new SPRINT WAY!! damn money hungry hawks.
I Paid $199 plus $36 and change for my taxes. out the store the phone was only $236 and change. but my new Bill Statement is where it HURTS.
the new $10 dollar fee is bull****. and now im going to have to pay $42 more dollars on my first new bill for the Upgrade Fee.
over $100 dollars for one moth bill is going to HURT me this month. Thank god I found a way to make extra money that will pay for all this so It as if Im not spending my money for this. LOL gotta love the benefits when you get them.

Question regarding "Charge to sprint account"

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I need help
I am eligible for the $75 upgrade and sprint agreed to credit the rest to make it so I get the 2 year upgrade price.
So in order to get a GS2 ($199) I beleive I would have to pay $375 upfront.
I'm short on cash and I'm wondering if I can charge the phone to my bill so I can pay for it at the end of the month.( I read this policy is about to change on oct 4th ).
Thanks

It depends on account history from the start of the last time you singned up for the 2 year agreement to the date. If you've had many late payments and suspensions then they may deny you for the BTA.
They may be other factors, like there internal client score and more that can determine what's there answer going to be for you.

Goodbye...

I called Sprint to buy out the rest of my contract (was eligible for upgrade on Oct. 1st), after about 25 minutes on the phone I agreed to pay $45 and my upgrade date will be reset! I love my E4GT but I just can't resist the new Evo. It's been fun... without the ICS kernel source... with a WVGA screen... but it's time to move on. The Evo is the best phone on any carrier now. I've put up with Sprint's 3G for this long, I suppose I can put up with it for another year. I don't get WiMAX at my house anyway, so it's not like I'm losing much.
Would be funny if they released official ICS/kernel source on the 18th. I'm not worried. I am excited.
Plus, for anyone wondering, try calling and asking about the buyout program! Just make it sound like you've already talked to people at a corporate store, like you KNOW what you're talking about. There's a $119.99 deal at Wirefly for the Evo, I think you get a $10 Google Wallet credit too. After the $36 upgrade fee the phone is only $146! Sure, you don't get it on launch day, but I think saving almost $100 is a good reason to wait an extra two days.

Whoa. You just made me jump off the couch. Do you know about Bank of America's Add it Up for wirefly? if you buy it through the BoA Add it Up link to Wirefly, you also get $50 cash rebate about 4 months later (just to make sure you stick with the phone).
I already preordered from sprint for my girl's line but I can cancel anytime before it's shipped I believe....
Also, $45 buyout for an Oct 1 upgrade? That seems way low. I'm due Sept 1 and that's making me think about it...
And I also think the Evo LTE will be a small step above our SGSII Epic Touch.
Edit. Can you link us to the $119, I'm seeing $149.
The EVO LTE is going to be awesome. I just bought the One X on AT&T and it is a MUCH better phone than the E4GT. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade. I would go back to Sprint for the EVO LTE but there is no Sprint LTE in my area, but with AT&T's I can get 25-28mbps down, and it's everywhere. Can't argue with that lol.
I spent a good amount of time in the At&t store today fapping to the phones. Loving the One X they have.

Puts me even more on the fence. Price is right ($99 if I add a new line) but I'm now torn on maybe going to T-Mobile, especially with that new global roaming.

Please come to T-Mobile. Hehe. Was with Sprint 14 years.

FYI for those upgrading instead of starting new with Sprint, pre-orders are cheaper on Best Buy's site.
Sprint price - $199.99
Best Buy price - $99.99

Not for existing customers. It showed as $199.99 for me when pricing the upgrade. If i'm doing something wrong, please let me know.

Another Best Buy incentive - $50 gift card via email if you pre-order with Best Buy. Decision made, order placed!
Edit - well, order almost placed. Not going through on the Best Buy website for some reason, just getting a generic "There was an issue while processing your order." message. On phone with them.

What is the difference between ordering the phone at Best buy vs Sprint corporate? Will I still get the same service and support with sprint if I upgrade with Best Buy? I've always wondered this and bought my phones directly from sprint. With the current pricing at Sprint, seems like BB is definitely the better way to go.
I am on a 1600 minute, unlimited texting and data family plan with TEP insurance if it matters.
If you buy from third parties like best buy, sprint will charge u 50 bucks on your account (according to a sprint rep)

I have upgraded through Best Buy and Amazon in the past. Your plan with Sprint does not change. Your Sprint Service/Support does not change. You have the ability to add TEP to your new phone (you may have to call Sprint to do this, but you have a window of time - i think 30 days - to add TEP to any phone).
The only thing I would be wary of is if you are in a grandfathered plan like SERO. Then you need to deal with Sprint directly.
I have never been charged extra by Sprint by going with a 3rd-party. The only possible extra fee (on top of the phone cost) is a $36 activation fee that Sprint charges, as well. Even if Sprint didn't charge this, Best Buy still comes out ahead.
I wonder what the chances are Best Buy will ship earlier or later than Sprint?

As an FYI, I was not able to get the order to process on BestBuy.com, or through the 1-800-BestBuy. I had to go in-store to preorder. And even then, I had to work it out with the mobile manager to get the $50 gift card offer.
Now, that pre-order doesn't commit me to the device, as I haven't actually paid for it yet. So if anyone has any success with BestBuy.com, please let me know!!

My pre-order just seemed to go through smoothly!
And I can confirm you'll have to pay a $36 activation fee with Sprint (not payed with the Best Buy order).

Thanks!
Was it for a new customer agreement? or upgrade for existing customer?

Upgrade. About 5 months late actually, I could have upgraded back in July. Now I have to decide what I do with my old Galaxy S2...

At what point did your order processing fail? Maybe a problem with the "Submit to Sprint" part, or something with your browser? or just bad luck lol
