Why do some people post their entire EVO Software Information on their signatures? I mean, what do we care about what PRL or PRI version someone is running? lol It's just like those that post their Speedtest.net results in their signatures as well. hahaha

Just asking, don't get on the defensive.
ohh, you had me on your side there until the speedtest comment, haha
Maybe for a similar reason as to why people post pics of their cars in their sigs...
I put my tethered speed test in my sig today, never have done it before.
And I used to be one who put the basics about my phone in my sig (phone, rom, kernel) but that changes so often it's just a pain in the neck to keep up with.

The same thing could be said for pretty much anything anyone puts in their signatures. Why bother have a witty quote? Or a picture of your favorite car or dog or sports team?
Well, actually the software version information might actually be helpful to give context's to a user's post. For instance, if someone is giving me advice on which ROM to install on my EVO, and according to their signature they are still using a Mogul-- I think I might take their advice slightly less seriously.

HA!!! I thought it would take longer for someone to say that! HAHAHAHAH Yea, I guess you are right. BTW, before someone gets all defensive and starts trying to dissing me, I can take a joke as well. I was just trying to stir up some funny replies and lighten up the mood sometimes, since I spend so much time on these forums. hahaha

LOL Yea, I agree
I don't really get the point that much here either because the amount of variation is not that great. On car forums I've been on it's helpful because there can be so many variables at play in diagnosing a problem or someone may want to ask you for your opinion on some aftermarket product you're using. To each their own but it does seem e-penis-like here.

HondaCop, are you a car guy or just a honda-cop guy?
Are the results from the "Speed Test" application valid? Someone mentioned here one time that basing your connection speed, off of what you read, was not a good idea
I used to be a flashoholic trying at least 1 new rom daily. After I was done having my fun I'd go back to cm6, then it was back to the cm6 4g rom. Now that I'm on cm7 rc2 I honestly have no need to flash new roms anymore. I love cm7 but it kinda killed my flashing because I have yet to run into anything that I like better. I've tried miui and like it but the new gingerbread rom says it's got a few bugs in it, plus no 4g. Don't know why the 4g thing kills it for me because I went without it while using cyanogenmod releases but now for some reason i feel the need for it. I'm not opposed to sense roms, in fact became really fond of the frost rom but still kept going back to cm. So I'm conclusion thank you to the cm team for making my phone simply amazing but damn you for being so good that I don't want to try anything else.

Your thread title indicates that you are bored with your EVO but your post sounds as if you are just simply happy with your EVO running the CM7 ROM. The title is a bit misleading but I understand how you feel. Your phone is great and you are happy with it and not flashing roms on a daily basis... which is a good thing.
Mabe the title should say you are not bored with your phone but quite happy with it and no longer feel the need to try diferent roms?
I'm bored with Android, not my Evo. I found webOS to be a more exciting OS to use on a phone than Android and iOS.
I just got my flashing days started! It seems I do the same thing you do: keep going back to a particular ROM, mine being Warm Z.
I've just started looking into threads about people posting their home screen and I'm trying to really figure out what I wanna do with that! Really, so many possibilities to do with home screens, it'll definitely keep me entertained for a while.
I just wish the Evo was better at gaming. Overall it's a fantastic phone, but i do like gaming, and with all the hd games and cool emulators coming out, the evo seems to be showing its limits i think. Just holding out for the 3d.
The evo had an outdated gpu before it was even released.

I'm extremely happy with my phone it's just that i would be on it all day looking for new roms to try, waiting for them to download at work, possibly flashing them at work or on the way home, playing around with the new rom when I got home for hours. I love cm7 and my phone but now I have nothing to do.
For months my routine involved wasting hours flashing roms and kernels now all I do is get my ass kicked at Droid words by my girlfriend, I guess that's payback for all the hours I ignored her because I was playing with my phone

Yea like the OP I was flashing anything and everything.. but lately its just been slow.. maybe im speaking out of turn and i know someone will def. say something, but I want something groundbreaking from android/HTC.. just my opinion..
Yeah used to flash more in the past, checking everything out but always going back to CM6. Now with CM7 I have only flashed one, Warm Z, and was back shortly. Not so much bored as I am content and happy with CM7. Feels nice to have settled, actually.

Actually, superiority isn't my goal. The kid clearly doesn't know the difference in his words, so I'm trying to point him in a direction to learn more about the language he speaks; in this case, learning the difference between there, their and they're. It's kindof important.

Actually, by correcting him I actually exercised two rules.
First: speak English as well as you possibly can. Next time, he will know.
Second: help others when possible. Self explanatory
Thank you for correcting me. I'm sure you did it to help another person out. My mistake was probably nothing more than an auto correct as I typed this out on my phone. You're so kind with the sharing of your infinite wisdom of the English language. Thank you very much. To help you out you didn't put a period after your 2nd rule, and I believe you only spaced once when you should space twice after the first sentence in your first rule. Next time when you criticize someone on their grammar maybe you can use correct sentence structure.
Thanks once again.

Perhaps you can add how to get to a custom ROM on your site which is quicker than the whole rooting thing. Odin in CWM 5.0.2.7 with reboot unchecked. After completion boot into CWM immediately and flash a previously downloaded prerooted custom GB ROM.

lol, I didnt even know that was possible. I always thought gingerbread had something in it that automatically flashed stock recovery everytime the phone is started. Thats why i always odin back to stock froyo, update to ei22, root, then flash.
So as long as a custom ROM is rooted, for instance..... ACS, Marcusant, or Sleeper, I can just ODIN ClockworkMOD, not reboot, boot up recovery, install the rom, and im good to go?

Yup. Saves a few steps since the prerooted kernel is in the ROM. And you are right if you reboot before going to CWM and flashing the ROM, you end up back at stock recovery.
Kennyglass, how do I get out of download mode after I install CWM? I unchecked auto-reboot, and it just sits in download mode. Do I remove the battery? I did anyways... lol. Im installing starskyrom now to see if im rooted.
im sure this has been posted a thousand fold, but i wanted to post one for the personalization of it. What would you say its the best overall kernel for cm7.2. im about to have a crack at using tiamat with it since it was my personal fav on my incredible. any suggestions?
I like aeroevans 8bfs kernel. His 8 cfs is good too but idk the difference really. His ics v9 kernel supposedly works with gingerbread but I haven't tried it
The v9 kernel works really well with cm7. I would really recommend using it. Battery life is much improved.

I Dont understand what the problem is. He posted in the correct section, was polite and simply asked for our opinions. Kernels do change, with updates and whatnot while others get left behind. simply searching and grave digging an old thread doesnt really change anything. Just dont want this place to become a thread-prison.
As for the kernels, tiamat hasnt been updated for our phone in ages, a lot of stuff has changed for GB since their last update. JDK kernel is in the same boat. This leaves the various versions of Aero's kernel essentially, i'd go with .8bfs or the v9 ics kernel, which i'm currently using with no problems.

thank you if youre not gonna help then dont post. its people like that thats made alot of great devs leave xda cause of the trollers.
anyways thanks for all the tips ill try em all out. im currently testing out some sense kernels for great battery life any suggestions there?
I fully agree. When you get a new device you are not sure what is old and what are outdated mods and what is the newest thing sometimes. I agree we should search first. But I have had times where I search and google and still no answers. Then when I finally post a question there is usually someone making a refference about another kitty being killed. I came from the Droid X2 which the phone was crap and Motorola sucks A$$ for locking the phones down. However that forum was very friendly and eager to help out noobs. I do understand some of the questions asked are a little crazy and you can tell they did not search. But if you are pissed about someone posting just ignore it and let some other helpful person respond. And if they post in the wrong section the MR Highway will come get them!! He is awesome at that! Keep up the great work Mr Highway. Sorry just my .02 cents. Also as the noobs learn they help out other noobs and hopefully you respected devs can ignore these simple questions. The DX2 was my first phone and I had no idea what I was doing. With the help of the DX2 community I got up to speed and was able to help others. Look at my thanks count. One noob helping another. I asked plenty of questions when I first came on here had some helpful feedback and some smart remarks. Well needless to say I am now comfortable with flashing Roms,Kernel, radio and moving back and forth from AOSP,Sense, and ICS and I found all the fixes and work around ICS by reading the threads and not asking questions here. Just some food for thought.

Again, our phone lacks a large variety of kernels, however the few we have are solid (probably the reason we dont have 2000 of them xD)
The only kernel i've really used for sense is drellisdee's #21 kernel, it comes with all the usual cpu governors and is included in a lot of ext4 sense roms. It works on sense 2.1, 3.0 and 3.5 in my experience as well.
Hopefully that was of some help :s

Yes, he did post this in the right section if it was just kernel and not ROM specific with CM7.2 why just question for AOSP or sense? And I wasn't rude in my response to him as far as him posting a question. I am irritated knowing that we have just recently had a lot of problems in this thread with people just simply asking questions they could've searched for and reposting the same thing 8,000,000 times (su, killall drmserver) ya that is familiar

all credits go to the liquid team...i really didnt do anything hard, and i dont consider myself to be a real developer now.
just wondering if anyone wants to test it out to see if it works, and give some feedback.

Changes made:
-removal/replacement of a few apps
-build.prop changes
-changes to updater-script
-changed boot animation
Like I said, I didn't make this to make a more optimized version of liquid smooth. It's more of an experiment/attempt to learn a bit.
Thanks.

im not really trying to promote it to everyone. i just did this as an experiment, and i just want to know if its booting ok, not force closing apps, etc. so that i know whether or not to change something.
How about you test it out yourself before asking others to risk trying it. Just a simple piece of advice.

Feedback:
Who'd want to "Test" a rom from a non-developer, when there are many that are from DEVELOPERS, not to mention the Liquid Smooth was developed by a full team. This to me infers that you are better than a team? Oh well, if you want to try peeps, go for it, but remember, it was done by someone who says he was not a developer.
like getting on a bus with a legally blind driver!

i clearly said in my original post, that i take no credit for this, and that all credit goes to the liquid smooth team.
By test i didnt mean to go through the whole rom and check if every single thing works. Im just asking that you flash it
and let me know if it boots fine and doenst have any major issues.
like i said, im not trying to promote this as the best rom for the s3 that everyone should start using.
no need to get all pissed...it was just a simple question. If you dont want to try it, why even post?
i understand your concern guys, but blind development happens all around XDA. if this guy today had a "Recognized Developer" tag, i bet many of you would try it out. don't underestimate the OP.
that said, make sure you do understand that there is a risk since this is a blind development, although i doubt anything would go wrong since this is just something the OP took from an already working ROM for the TMO Galaxy S III and tweaked it a bit...

i understand your concern guys, but blind development happens all around XDA. if this guy today had a "Recognized Developer" tag, i bet many of you would try it out. don't underestimate the OP.

+1. We can do without the drama guys. The OP is doing absolutely nothing out of the ordinary by developing blind. Yes, it is always a risk for testers, which is why he posted this here looking for the willing. If you don't want to try it, please move along and stop flaming each other. :good:

Thanks. Like you said I doubt flashing this would cause any harm. All I really did was change a couple apps and replace some pics in systemui and frameworkres.
Just make a nandroid, flash the rom, let me know if it installs/boots properly, and then just restore your nandroid.
My apologies go out to the op. He did make an effort to further improve an already outstanding rom and asking for testers is KEY. It's a great start for experimenting while increasing your knowledge on the more advanced aspects of android. Will give this a try once my S3 is fully charged!

I bet if he was a recognize developer you all wouldn't be a§§es. Just say no thank you and move on. Too many drama lovers on this site I swear.

Considering that its possible to modify firmware images and inject custom malicious code, I don't see anything wrong with questioning someone's motives for putting up a ROM that they admit they don't even remember what changes were done to it. I can understand if you think you've improved upon something but without a change log or anything there isn't really any reason to test it. Being cautious is not the same as being an ass.

I agree, there is absolutely nothing wrong with questioning something suspicious. But there are ways to do it without coming off like a jerk.
@OP I do advise adding more to the OP about the changes made if you want testers.

One thing that I hate about the internet - you can't really control how your message is taken by others. I wasn't trying to be a jerk at all.

Oh no, I wasn't aiming that towards you at all. It was just a general statement. Now let's stop spamming this thread with off topic posts
Everybody has a point to start. May be this is his point.
I swear if I was fan of 4.2 roms I would do it for you. But I already had too much headache with 4.2 roms.
Dont forget to ask original dev before you modify his work like this.
Gud luck ahead.
the rom has 6 downloads, however no one has given any feedback?
if anyone flashed it could you let me know if it works ok.
