I have seen tutorials how to force apps from internal only to external for froyo but am wondering if this is possible on gingerbread as well. I have my evo rooted and want to move nova to sd as it takes up too much internal mem and i actually use that game (only bloatware I did not remove). It is not available in the market so i don't want to uninstall it.

It is possible to do this on Gingerbread. I have used Titanium Backup to move apps to the SD when the app otherwise would not allow it.
Nova may be different in that it is probably installed in the System partition. You would need to convert it to a user app first (Titanium will also do that). The thing is that moving it will not necessarily free up any space for you since it is in system. Unless you are wanting to free up some space in system to move another app there (i.e. convert a user app to a system app. Titanium will also do that).
how do you do it in Titanium backup? I have the pro version and don't see a feature to force apps to sd. The method I saw was plugging the phone into a computer and using adb
There are two ways to do it.
From the Backup/Restore screen:
- Long press on the App you want to move.
- Select Move to SD Card to move it.
Nova is a System app by default. You can not move system apps to the card. You could use the same procedure as above but select Convert to user app first, then Move to SD Card.
From the Batch screen:
- Select Move user apps to the SD Card under the Move/Integrate group.
- Select the apps you want to move
- Hit Run the batch operation.
thanks a lot! I wasn't aware of that functionality in Titanium. This app just earned its keep for probably the hundredth time now.

How do i save my apps to my sd card? i want to save my whole app to my sd card don't care about installing it to sd, just want that the apps i download from market place be saved on sd card for later installing myself either off-line or if i reset phone and don't want to go back to market place and try to find them. The market place doesn't memorize your free apps in the downloads if you install one of them then navigate away then come back to see which one you have missed to download previously it wont show up again.
Ive searched here and on Internet and only thing keeps coming up is installing apps to sd card and why it cant be done. But im not looking for that. Just looking to save it to sd then at later date installing it to memory of phone. just care for saving the apk file not installing it to sd.
I use Titanium back up to save all the apps and some of the system data. When you load a new ROM just do a restore and viola all your apps are back. It does require root access

anything that doesn't require root? or that intercepts the market place download and saves the app to the sd card then installs it to phone so the app can be installed later if you do reset.

You can use a file manger i.e. astro or estrongs to backup apps. It can back up your free apps just fine. The only problem is when you install them from the SD card I don't believe they are attached to the market. That means the app won't update.
Your paid apps are attached to your gmail account so you can reset and they will still be there

Im on cyanogen 6.1
I want to have ext2,3..
can that be done by selecting Partition SD Card on "Rom Manager" ?
or do i have to do it the whole comand prompt way?
also, do the apps get deleted after doing ext2/3?
if so, whats a good app to re-install all apps on one click? i dont want to have to click install 1 by 1

Using ROM manager should work to partition your sd card, but I'm not sure about the whole apps getting deleted thing, but I would make a backup of your apps just in case. I use titanium backup, excellent program, restores app data and market links with the app. I use it for user apps between roms and system data when I'm flashing new nightlies all the time. Highly recommend it. It also syncs to dropbox if you have an account with them, which is pretty nice.

Well I've never used Rom Manager to create my ext but I don't think it allows you to select ext2/3. I just used a program on my computer to create it. As far as the apps - yes, they will be deleted if they're on your sdcard, your entire card will be formatted so back it up before you do anything then just transfer it back onto the card once you're done.
Need help backing up apks since I've begun installing from non-market sources. Where are they stored in system and sd card directories? A game I just installed automatically put itself on the card and so I can't find it. MyBackupRoot doesn't seem to find them either when doing its nightly scheduled run. Thanks.
Some apps make their own directory for data and app storage but maintain a link on the phone as well usually in \data\data. Try Titanium Full version. It is mostly the link you need to backup since it tells the system where to find the rest of it. If most of the app is on the sd card and your backup goes to your sd card, you are essentially using double the space on your sd card if you backed that up too.

Is there a simple tool or way to find the .apk location? I have 3 different file explorers but that's not the easiest way always.
The best is Root Explorer. It will search sub directories. Then just search for part of the apps name and all files will pop up.
In miui.us file exlorer sorts everything .apk .zip misc don't know if you can port this apk over or just flash miui.us cause it is amazing

When I download nonmarket apps I put all the apks in an "app" category on my SD card to reinstall if I switch ROMs. I also backup the data with titanium.

Well, it turns out that I'm happily wrong about two things:
-MyBackupRoot does snag those apks even if they aren't from the market, and...
-I found that out by reacquainting myself with AntTek App Mgr. Root, which shows every apk on the SD card and has install features too! So that's a nice way to find them, free of charge. And so they're backed up and safe
I bought the app and I used it in at least 4 phones this year.
Now in this phone the list of apps is empty
Any ideas?
phone is rooted
it might be one of 2 issues that i will list below. i think its probably issue 1.
1. titanium backup will read the "TitaniumBackup" folder from the INTERNAL MEMORY on this phone. so if you have the folder in your sd card, you need to copy and paste it into the phones internal memory, and your issue should be resolved.
2. you might have added a filter, to maybe search for an app or something, and you forgot to clear the filter, so no apps are showing up.
Having some problems with my phone and planning on getting a replacement today.
What's the best way to back up my phone and transfer it to my new one? I'm running aokp and nova can I just transfer my nova back up to the new phone? What should I do in tibu though?
Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Best way to transfer it would be through a nandroid using ext sd card. Otherwise you can use TiBU for USER (backing up system apps is asking for trouble) [apps+data] only.
Nova will only backup your layout and drawer. When you load the nova backup on the new phone it will mirror your exact setup and if there's any apps missing it will simply have a green android icon with the name of the app that was installed on your homescreen (currently not installed).
You'll also want to use google account sync to backup your contacts. Pictures/videos/audio obviously through an ext sd.
I had to backup my GS3 apps when going from root back to stock. For the apps you can find the TiBu folder in the internal storage, copy that to your PC. When you get your new phone- install TiBu, paste the folder back in and you should be able to restore them. Contacts can be restored by syncing with the Gmail account, and photos you should copy to your computer as well. Good luck
