Hi,
is there a way to enter in "recovery mode" with clockworkmod without using "ROM manager" option ?
Because, when I start my phone using "low volume + power button", I always have the standard HTC recovery mode.
Thanks !
You need S-off first before installing a custom recovery such as CWM

I think it's S-OFF, ENG-off, root and everything else (I'm new to these stuff).
I just installed Revolution 6.1.1.
In fact, I wonder if there's a way, when the phone is off, to start the phone with the ClockWorkMod boot (I think it is called "recovery mode"), with a combination of buttons ?
thanks
Sorry,
1. Power off
2. Hold vol down then hold power (don't release any button yet)
3. You will boot into Hboot screen, release all buttons
4. Use vol button and power button to select recovery

Get the advanced power menu mod for ARHD 6.1.x
On the restart menu there's an option to reboot to recovery.

it's strange but, when the phone is off, if I press "volume down" + "Power" buttons, the DHD starts normally, not in recovery mode.
But, if I press the "volume down" button when restarting the DHD, then I enter in recovery mode.
The idea is : If I make a big miskake, like delete the ROM (so I can't start my DHD anymore), what's the way to go to ClockWorkMod recovery mode to restore a previoous nandroid backup for example ? (sorry, I'm new to these stuff).
Thanks

For me, its a lot easier to just keep a PD98IMG.zip file on the sdcard and flash it via hboot

My phone doesn't want to start in recovery mode when it is off in fact.
You're sure the combination is Power button + low volume, even with Android Revolution 6.1.1 ?
Turn off fastboot. In settings/power.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
oh yess
I understand, when Power\Fast Boot is enabled, the DHD doesn't really turn off.
So when it turns on, it's directly on the Sense desk.
Ok !!!!
Thank you very much !
No probs

Hi !
I'm a happy dhd user on custom firmware (leedroid 1.4.1) and since the update from stock 2.2 firmware (first to 2.2.1 official then downgraded, routed, s-off and installed custom ROM) i can no longer boot to recovery mode by holding power and vol down.
I still can boot to recovery from the os but id something bas happens, i won't ne able to restore ;(
Any idea why i can't go directly in recovery mode ?
Thanks
Yoann
you should hold vol down. and press power once, just keep vol down held down till it boots into bootloader
Or try turning the phone completely off, the plug the power line in, that will take it straight into the recovery.

Turn off HTC Fastboot. Your phone isn't actually off when you turn it off, so it can't enter bootloader.
Settings > Applications > Fastboot

Hi
Just got into recovery mode.... trying to flash ARHD ROM. Currently have LeeDroid.
Anyway, got into recovery, did a wipe data/factory reset, like I did when I flashed LeeDroid. Once it said, "Data wipe complete.", I must have pressed something and now it says, "Back menu button disabled.".
I can go up and down on the Recovery menu, but when I try to select something using the Power button, all I get is a white box with the little green Android jumping out of it !
can't power off, restart, cant select anything... and I dont think the phone is chargin when in Recovery mode ! Alas !
What to do !!
I should have all my zip ROM files still on SD card !

Try holding down the volume down button. I had this last week & holding the vol down button re-enabled it.

Pull your battery then hold the phone side ways & put it back in as soon as its back in, without even putting the side back on, hold the volume down button and power button and you should go into the bootloader. Now put the case back on without losing contact with the battery (bit fiddly) then look.at the screen & you'll see an option for recovery. Chose that using volume keys n power button. Then proceed as normal. Their may be another way but its happened to me after a wipe before n that's what I done

This is not working for me ......
A bit reluctant on taking the battery out just yet ...
Hopefully there is a way to get the Back menu button enabled without doing that !

Just press the volume button down several times, browsing through the menu.. down down down, and it should re-apear..
That worked for me, and other´s
Edit: Don´t hold the vol button down, press it several times
What does YOUR button have to do with development???
That´s true, should be moved to general...

I am a newb here, but what I have gathered so far is that all rooting queries/threads are in Android Development thread.

Nope, the development thread is only for rom´s, radio´s & kernel´s..
Questions like this can you post (and should post) in the general thread, just so you now for the future
Edit: All thread´s here is about rooting & flashing... almost any way

Hello all,
I install CWM following this post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601663
But the power button didn't work when I want to select an option.
The vol up/down buttons work fine.
Any idea ?

Had somting like that to, but taping power button dit the same as the option to go back. I had to tap volume down and up almost at the same time, then after doing this a few times the tablet put somting on the screen and power button worked as normal again. if you dit the taping of the volume buttons again, after a few times power button worked as go back option again..

Install TWRP recovery.
Nice 1 ZN..
I would run the script for the bootloader unlocker and when the door and lock pop up make sure you use the vol down button to select lock then the vol up button to execute. You need to do this before fastboot times out. Once you are sure the bootloader is unlocked go to the apps and theme section and look for the Acer Recovery thread, follow the link then download the Acer Recovery Beta app. Once installed select clockwork mod revision 1.7 and flash the recovery. Your recovery should work fine after this.
Hi guys i need help. i flash a cm10 kernel but im on a sense rom. of course it wont boot so i normally hold down the power button. but this time it wont reboot! help!:crying::crying:
EDIT:bootloop now but holding power button also doesnt work
Hi. Try connecting the phone to the PC while it is in bootloop. Normally it will be detected by adb before it completely boots. Then you can do an adb reboot recovery.
connect phone to pc
type adb reboot bootloader

I haven't done this for a while but used to do this 100s of times.
I have a stock HTC rom installed without root. It is an experimental version of 2.3 that was never released.
I'm holding down the volume down button and pressing power. When I release the power button it boots normally into standard home screen.
I tried with the back button and the same thing happens.
Has anyone ran across the same problem?
Is there anyway I can boot into HBOOT without the volume down button and no root? Any apps which might help me to do that?
Thanks
afaik you press and HOLD those two buttons until the phone goes on.
Your volume down might have become faulty.
To go to fast boot mode press and hold "back key" while power up. From there press power key once more to go into hboot mode.

I think the volume down button works because when the phone is on i can control the call volume using this button. I also tried the back key to boot into fast boot but that doesn't work.
I hold the two buttons indefinitely. It's only when I release the power buttons that the phone starts booting but always boots into normal mode.
Any other ideas? thanks.
Lol try hold volume up + power

Awww damn!
I guess the only other thing I could try is to flash a different RUU.
Does anyone have a link to the stock Froyo RUU? Would flashing it over a stock GB rom work or wuold it complain that the HBOOT version is different?

Press n "hold" back, press (wait 2 second) and "release" power. Simple. You can't do it wrong. Try again please.

I am really not an idiot.
1) Press and hold power and 'back' at the same time
2) Waiting waiting waiting.... 5 - 10 seconds, nothing happens, black scren
3) Release power while still holding 'back'
4) Same thing happens with volume down and volume up

I want to install an ICS Rom. So I need to root.
To root I need to install the custom HBOOT drivers otherwise unrevoked doesn't pick up the device.
In order to install the custom HBOOT drivers I need to be in HBOOT with USB connected. Is there any other way?
K, does ur volume buttons work when phone is booted? If so, turn off the phone then pull the battery out for 10- 15 seconds then put back in, then press and hold volume down and press power button (while holding vol down) it should boot bootloader
Also make sure in
settings/power
That fast boot is not checked (if u got that option)

Wicked! Thanks!
Removing the battery made the difference. It seems that I have to remove the battery every time after power down or when I powers up it skips HBOOT. Nonetheless it works!
