Best root method out right now - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So which is the preferred method to root our phones right now? I used CWM on my old hero before but read the one on this phone makes wifi not work right now. This true?
The other is this method:

Is one better then the other?

It keeps the phone working fine and recovery on it works just fine too? I just want to use his root method without having his oc kernal for now.

yeah it has cwm on it. Works fine for me.
If needed, just flash back to stock kernal using bubbys

Not gonna lie but that was crazy easy. Gonna have to test it now to make sure it all works.
Thanks for the help.

a lot of XDA links are down so i suggest using the stuff on theunlockr.com it's pretty direct
dl kies or drivers (personally i just dl drivers)
run odin and flash CWM
you can then flash a rom to get root or flash superuser to get root.
I did the 'unlockr' method but it took me like 6 tries to get su installed through CWM.
Keep trying if it fails. It will eventually work.
It isn't too much different from the other methods floating around the forums. Links work which is always a plus as someone else has mentioned.

No it looks like he loaded an old sgs4g file on his microsd or something because he use to own one..
anyways.. it looks like your phone is just doing a bootloop. if you have a backup just nandroid restore.
Not sure what this sgs4g file is? is it a ROM/Kernel? or some backup data?
if you flashed a ROM/Kernel.. and you're only getting boot loops you're fking lucky. Flash a t989 ROM/kernel and it should fix it
if you just restored some data. just wipe your data and caches/dalvik cache

Easiest method, which I just used myself today, is the ZergRush Exploit.
You won't be able to install custom ROM's because this method does not install a new Kernel with Recovery. But it is the easiest method I have found and gives you ROOT if that is all you are looking for. It can be found through the stickies, but here is the link.

From 1st hand experience on a T-MO GS2 (and also what others have posted), the ZergRush has fewer successes on the T-Mo units. I tried ran it last night on a new phone and didn't do anything. I ended up using one of the other rooting methods. Not sure if it's hit or miss, or what the issue may be.

This method doesn't work for rooting the new 2.3.6 any more. Apparently they fixed the ZergRush exploit. I have the T989D Telus version of the phone. I believe it was running 2.3.5 and it work beautifully.

You can root without any problems using the Note2 Toolkit by going to the root/unroot section and selecting OPTION 4. This will flash the cwm recovery which is known to work and let you install the root zip file (make sure to install the drivers and test them first though).
I know have a stock kernel from the tmobile variant, have rooted it and adding full support to the toolit now. Should be up and running today some time.
Mark.

[TUTORIAL] How To Root the Sprint Galaxy S2 (SPH-D710)

I was recently asked to post some threads here on XDA with the tutorials I have on my site. As time permits I will be posting a series of threads here to the Q&A section that will hopefully answer most questions that might come up.
If you can't find your answer in one of my threads I would highly recommend BluesRulez One Stop FAQ Thread. It is an awesome resource and has answers to just about every question I've seen come up!
__________________
This thread details the process of how to root your device without having to flash a full stock ROM. This method works for the Sprint, Boost and Virgin Samsung Galaxy S2 (SPH-D710, SPH-D710BST and SPH-D710VMUB).
This method uses an Odin One-Click Kernel to install a kernel that includes a Custom Recovery. Once booted into the Custom Recovery you can then flash Superuser which will root your phone and give you Superuser access.
Prerequisites:
A PC running Windows with the Samsung Mobile Drivers Installed. The Samsung Mobile Drivers are available here.
Any One-Click Kernel (preferably from the Android version you will be using, i.e. GB, ICS or JB).
All Sprint One-Click Recovery kernels can be found here.
For this particular tutorial I used the following kernels:
Gingerbread: Chris41g's EL26 Stock CWM5 Repack
Ice Cream Sandwich: Agat63's tFI27 Stock Recovery Repack (rev 2)
Jelly Bean: Agat63's Source-Built GB27 Recovery
Superuser (or SuperSU, MIUI Security, and etc) in a flashable zip, saved on your Internal or External SD Card.  For this method I used SuperSU v1.25 (but any SU in a flashable ZIP should work). You can download several different versions here.
Although not required it is recommended that you have Samsung Kies installed on your PC as well. You can download Samsung Kies here.
Side-Effects:
This method will trigger the Yellow Triangle upon start-up and will increase your Odin count.
It will also change your startup screen to look like the International GS2 startup screen.
Both of these side-effects are very easy to overcome due to the hard work of Chainfire and Garwynn. You can get TriangleAway from Chainfire's thread here.
For the rest of the tutorial please visit my site: www.rwilco12.com
Enjoy!

Will any of these methods work with FL24? I'm new to rooting Samsungs and am used to simply rooting via exploits through ADB. I have the phone rooted (temp rooted?) via the exploit in Framaroot and am trying to get a custom recovery installed next to flash a ROM. Thanks!

The Kernel One-Click flashes the kernel and recovery together. They are combined on the E4GT.

You might have to turn SU on depending on which version you flashed. Open the app and see if under settings you see something like "Enable SuperUser" and make sure it's enabled.
If that doesn't fix it we may need to try another zip with a different set of symlinks. Either way, we're here for you and will get you squared away.

If you're asking - Can I flash VM builds on the Sprint D710, the answer is - yes. Did it when I tested the builds and everything worked properly.
If you're asking - Can I flash a VM build and be on VM service? Obviously you'll need to be activated to their service and provisioned properly. That's when you'd need to make sure that mmsc/apn/nv data is captured. I don't know if VM is a byod provider. (write that shiz down)

Yes. Many, many people have used this method successfully.
There's nothing wrong with a stock kernel, it just doesn't have a custom recovery packed into it or any kernel tweaks.
But I am confused... If you're already rooted why are you pulling your hair out?

K. Before you dive in too much further I would recommend doing a little more research. This device had had issues in the past that have made it very easy to brick. You should be very careful.
As a side note - This thread is a how to root thread but it sounds like you're already rooted. I don't know that there's any reason to reroot your device. You don't actually have to be rooted to get on JB either. You could just flash a one-click of a JB ROM.

[Q] files for rooting

Hello all! I've been on the s3 forever and just now swapped for the gn2. It looks to be stock mc2, and I'm am having a hell of a time getting root. Might anyone be able to point me to the files I need to flash in odin? I tried the note 2 toolkit but kept getting errors when loading the kit itself, tried 3 different installs. I have the drivers, and the latest twrp .tar, but unsure what else I need and cant really find anything directly pertaining to the sprint version on this. Thank you, all help much appreciated!
If you have TWRP in the correct tar format, you could just flash that in Odin by putting it in the PDA slot. Or to gain root access first, try cf auto root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956180.
