Hm sounds similar to what was going on with my first epic, the notification kept popping up and I couldn't turn on the phone regularly and all this was before I rooted or anything. I went in to the store t get a replacement but I was under the 30 days still, so idk.

No sms or notification light for sms in standby.

OK so recently I have noticed that if I get text messages while the phone has been in standby for a few hours or more that I do not get text notifications or the actual text message. If I wake the phone and mess around for a little, BAM! Blue notification light comes on and shows new message. So lets say I wake the phone at 3 in the morning and what I just explained happens, even though I just got the message at 3 it shows the actual message was lets say 9 pm. Have no idea whats going on. Im fully stock and not rooted. Also not running any third party sms apps. Only thing I have done or changed is that I have been using Zedge to change my sms notification sounds/alerts.
Any help would be great. I wanted to take my phone from where I got it in case there is something wrong with the phone but noticed since I got it from a dealer and not Corporate it seems I only had 14 days to return/exchange and im at the 19 days mark so don't see them helping me.
Thanks. Also I did google search and xda but only found things somewhat similar and not actually my problem.
Fist off if this is a software problem then the 14 days rule doesn't count and you'll get a new/refurbished to replace it if they can't fix it.
But it sounds to me like a network issue, who are you with and what is your service like?

Thanks for responding LittleRedDot. Im with At&t. Service seems to be okay. I have had at least one phone call that didn't go through but seems to be okay. Its just sms when the phone is in standby or at least seems that way. I seem to them just fine if phone is in use.

[Q][Help] Phone constantly "reboots", stock firmware, have logcat!

Alright, so my girlfriend's Samsung Galaxy S II started to go through these weird partial reboots several weeks ago (maybe even months). The phone would randomly go black, play the stupid shutdown/startup (dont remember which) jingle...then just simply be at the lock screen with a crossed out circle where the signal bars would be (for just a couple of seconds). When this happened, I used to just tell her to shutdown the phone, take out the battery, and let it sit for about 30 seconds, then put everything back together and start it back up. This seemed to work, which made me think it might have just been a software or at worst a memory issue of some kind.
This issue was always intermittent, but now, no matter what I do, it just keeps looping this "restarting" problem. I can't access any internal memory space from my computer because in the time it takes to connect, it just "reboots" again. I made a logcat of the phone up until the "reboot", and in doing so noticed that when I would browse the phone via adb shell, I saw no mount for the sd card...which then lead me to believe maybe it was an issue with that. I checked the sd card for corruption (and prior to even using it, checked that all blocks were read/writable (legit)), but that led nowhere.
Anyways, not having any idea where to go next, nor where to begin or what to look for in the 5000+ lined logcat, I turn to xda with hopes of getting some sort of help. Thanks in advance for any I get!
EDIT: Oops, some other important notes I didn't mention (other than in title); this is running stock firmware, only OTA. I tried once to upgrade her to ICS via Kies, but the upgrade would never complete. She also refused to let me root her phone...so unless there is a stock recovery mode, her phone has none...
bump, as its been a week and no responses. If anyone has any ideas or can figure out whats wrong from the logcat, please help.
Almost 3 weeks...no answer...isn't there at least 1 person who has an idea or can deduce one from the logcat? Pretty soon I'm gonna have to tell her to give up and get it "fixed" (ie, swapped for a refurb with most likely all her data lost)...

Looking at the logcat if it is accurate the problem is overheating and it is shutting itself down. That's why it keeps rebooting from I read but I could be wrong. Also looks like it has wakelock issues. Lot of wakelock errors in logcat. Some app or apps are causing the wakelock issue find them and remove them that might solve the problem.

i say try to odin back her phone to stock on here there a good post for it to get her back and if she had Gmail sync there shouldnt be a problem unless she really dont want to download everything again i say give odin a shot and then from there upgrade through kies its tricky you have to make sure you have 50% battery life or more and kies errrors out sometimes but it does work i update my friends phone as he does not like all the root stuff lol so i always your kies after a couple errors it will work and thats your best option if she doesnt want to loose anything kies will back it all up for her and are you sure that power button aint sticking sounds like you have a looping issue are you able to go into download mode or are you familiar with this ?
Idk how to read logcats but another idea could be you have the sticky power button issue. I think if it was overheating u would feel it and mention it in the op.

I used to have this problem when my phone was on ICS. I found that putting it back to GB, and using custom JB roms fixed it. I'd try those.
For starters, thanks everyone for the responses! After this long, its really great to see so many in one day!

Thats what I thought, because it seemed to get exceptionally hot before "rebooting"...at first...then I was noticing it "rebooting" when clearly cold. If it is indeed overheating like I had thought in the very beginning, is there anything I can do about it? What does it use for heat conductivity and displacement? And for that matter, I would think if it was overheating though, it would actually reboot, not the half-ass semi-reboot its been doing...
And what is wakelock exactly that it would cause an issue? Only apps I see using it are WootWatcher, KeyguardViewMediator and PowerManagerService.

I would use odin...but the phone doesn't stay on long enough to do much of anything before "rebooting". Also, she is already using stock firmware + OTA updates. And her contacts are not what I am worried about, its her photos and such. This is the very reason why I hate internal memory for phones...
And I'm pretty sure its not a sticky power button, I had seen that being a common issue when researching before posting. And again, if I have not been clear, its not exactly "rebooting", just semi-rebooting; phone starts up, crap starts running, a min or 2 later, phone acts like its restarting (plays sound and all), then just comes back to the lock screen immediately...I can't really describe it much more than that.
And no, I'm not familiar with "download mode"

Ya, like I said in the reply above this, I don't think its the sticky power button problem...but I could always be wrong. I only didn't mention over heating because I felt I did a good job of ruling it out.

Its running GB atm, never updated to ICS via Kies...
I wish I could help you further but i can say one thing, the rebooting that your describing is called a "hot reboot". I know what ur talking about and others will too if u use that term. Good luck.

stop phone from telling me who sent message

all of the sudden while using go sms pro, when i get a text it does the alert sound but then tells me the name of the person that sent the text? Why does it do this and how do I get it to stop because it is annoying. I installed box today, and updated grooveshark...Those are the only two new things to happen on the phone today before it started doing this.

Random vibrates with no notifications?

So I just started noticing this happening and I'll just have my one sitting on my desk and it will quickly vibrate twice with no kind of notification after I unlock. It doesn't happen a lot just every once and a while. Any ideas?
I get the same thing. I think you're having the same issue I'm having, and you are getting a lot of random hot battery warnings. That causes a notification, but disappears quickly, so you may not see it by the time you unlock the phone...
you guys using an .apk like betterbattery stats to hopefully solve this?

My battery hasn't been getting hot at all though so I don't know why I would be getting a hot battery warning.

mine wouldn't be hot it would go off like a normal notification, but nothing there. doesn't happen alot so really not bothering me. :good:
rooted?
stock?
ROM?
I am stock unrooted. I get the same thing, but my notification sounds off and vibrates. No kind of notification though. The only thing I have been able to link it too is that a few minutes later I would get an MMS group message. I imagine it is receiving that a message has been sent, but then has to download the content.

Stock unrooted, and I gel a sound, but nothing shows... Weird
Sent from the One phone to rule them all!
sounds to me like HTC found a way into the future an their new innovation is making the phone sound before the notification comes in!
sorry, too early in the morning, need coffee.
anyway, this is a really strange thing
you'd think it would sound AFTER the notification if anything

my battery isn hot to the touch either. I just get random warnings. pretty annoying
So I called support at htc and the guy said to try a soft reset or try booting in safemode and see if it might not be a 3rd party app. causing it. I don't know if any of you have tried either of these, I'm currently trying out the soft reset and see if that fixes it.

My One is completely stock
I don't receive any battery warnings, my Exchange account will vibrate twice when I receive a new message.
Mine was doing the same thing every few seconds until about 20 min ago, ( it's also been giving me a hard time connecting to charge) so I thought of the old school Nintendo! I blew in it, didn't work but it did reveal a big piece of dust that was in there, used a piece of pointy plastic to get it out, only 23min so far but no jiggeling hope I fixed it!!

[Q] Status Bar

At first I thought I was the only one suffering from this annoyance, but then I saw this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgvTFu6UKJI
See, the problem is that whenever I send or receive a message, this icon pops up. At first I thought I was delusional, but then it repeatedly became clear that this was truly a bug. I managed to get a screenshot of it (which was really difficult considering that it only pops up for about half a second). I want to know if I anyone else has had this issue, and whether or not someone found a workaround from it popping up. Anyone at all?
Are you using Hangouts?
Nope! Stock everything, and unrooted. Using the HTC messaging app

This bothered me as well, but I have since gotten rid of it. Granted that you're rooted, you can download an Xposed module called NotifyClean. It listens for "notifications" in the status bar, and you have the option to disable them. Download/install/activate the module, turn on the listening feature, and send a message. When you go back into NotifyClean, you'll see "Data Usage". Select that, then select "Data usage is running". It should highlight the selection in red, and ultimately get rid of the little annoying icon that shows up for a split second.
It seems that I'm not the only one having an issue. Well hopefully there's a better work around for this because I don't plan rooting my phone for a long time! Flashing roms and tweaks could be addicting haha! Hopefully someone finds a better fix to hide this annoying notification!

Yeah, take it from someone that flashed a ROM today and every mod/tweak I could find... it gets addicting. I spent 8 hours at my computer today going over various mods and personalizing my phone. Unfortunately, I can't think of anything to help with your issue that doesn't involve root. If you know what is causing the notification then you may be able to go into settings>apps>all and disable the offender?

I managed to get a screenshot, and I checked what app was causing it but it was a system app called "Data Usage". Anyone know how to turn off data usage notifications? Turning off data usage alert doesn't help
This is normal behavior. While it shouldn't be popping up, its normal as in that it is what is done when a SMS/MMS is sent while on WiFi.
You can locate the app through Application Manager and tap it to Disable Notifications. This doesnt require root or anything.
Taking shots in the dark here, but there is a data usage section under wireless & networks in settings. In that menu there is a toggle for 'alert me about data usage'. You can then drag a slider up and down to set the cap for when your phone warns you about data usage. Maybe yours is dragged to the very bottom so it alerts you about any data usage?
Unlikely because it would show up during everything, but worth asking. Maybe just disabling the notification toggle would work. Also, does your carrier ship with specific software to monitor data usage? If so then check all of those apps settings to see if anything has any effect.
It doesn't matter whether or not the wifi is on, it still annoyingly pops up. I meant that you really can't disable notifications as it is a system app

I read its some type of traffic usage. Someone here posted a picture of it here. Also I have an option on the ROM I'm running to hide that notification. O don't think its carrier IQ but then again.
