Small UI problem with Mango - Windows Phone 7 General

Hello,
I officially updated to 7.5 using Zune on my Vodafone Germany-branded LG E900.
Now when I go to settings and scroll to the very bottom it looks like there was place for one more item.
Normally I have 6 fully visible setting items in the list, but when I scroll as far down as I can, there are only 5 fully visible items in the list and at the bottom there's black space.
This is true for both system and app settings.
Is this normal?

It's normal on all mango phones, and actually, its quite comfortable for me, because I hold my phone with my thumb dead center, and when tapping the last item I don't have to reach the very bottom of the screen, and that black gap right there just fixes it for me
But I don't know, maybe its for future integrated apps? Or maybe its because of the modified "more options" aka the three dots ... navbar got slimmer on some hubs like Picture and Zune, and People.

Well OK I was just wondering because I don't see this on other lists.
I don't really like but I guess I can live with it.

It's in the application list, too Actually, there's a gap whenever there isn't a bottom toolbar.
Can't say I even noticed it, though.

[Q] Why not add a scroll button here?

I didn't find a application had a scroll button on WP7 till now. I don't know why not add a button here. Even in WM the scroll button is necessary. It's very difficult to read the end of the content in a long catalog.

Dunno if I should laugh or cry on reading this. Just swipe your finger on the screen upwards or downwards to scroll?
This almost killed me with laughter.
Why would you need one even if it's a long list just fling faster
Sent from my arrive using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I don't think it's an *entirely* ridiculous question - some lists are *very* long.
A scrollbar is almost definitely not the answer (both the Opera and IE browsers had scrollbars in WM6.5, as I recall, and I hated them, because I needed a stylus to operate them) - but a "jump to the end" gesture would come in handy sometimes.
Not a high priority for me at all - but there's been one or two (or *maybe* three) times in the past few months where I've thought, "It's kind of silly for me to be flicking a screen this many times.")
I see the merit of a scroll bar. If it allowed you to grab the bar and slide down, on long lists you could navigate much faster than with flicking.
That having been said, that may be better for a tablet, as on a phone, the screen realestate is so limited. Unless there were no UI associated with it, and it was just a gesture active on the last two vertical pixel columns of the screen. That would be pretty nice.
it annoys me when i want to play a song at the end of one of my playlists and i have to scroll through a few hundred songs, I really wish zune would let me organzie my playlists alphabetically and have the jump list on the phone.
Maybe a two finger "double-tap" to "Fast Forward"? "Triple-tap" to scroll to the very end?

Good point with the gestures. Single finger, normal scrolling. Two fingers make it so that the entire list can be scrolled in the length of the screen.

Yes, this is definitely a good idea for a long list. Though I would prefer a A-Z titles to jump straight to the 1st letter of the list.
Apologize for my earlier sarcastic remarks. Was not thinking properly tt time.

The only problem with that idea is that it is too arcane. Until someone has been shown how to do that they most likely wouldn't have any idea that it was even possible.

thanks, will check it out later today and comment.
cheers
just got a chance to look at it. Overall great, a little rough. Under 'most read' some news do not show images and there is just an empty spot. looks odd with just the text box. maybe a default image of a newspaper?
when I scroll to the second page of 'most read' it seems to have a different background, a flight map that shows LA?
when I continue to scroll into feeds, the first background comes back but with a semitransparent edge. The swirl of the edge is not smooth and looks broken when it scrolls over.
when entering any of the news or feeds the the menu bar at bottom doesn't appear smoothly and sticks instead of hiding.
when I am in one Feed, e.g. 'world' would be nice to swipe left and get into the next feed in the feed list instead of going back to it.
when I close the app and reopen it, I am greeted with the splash screen and then for a few seconds a black page with only the green strips at the left and two white dots top right (where the refresh and setting button show up) and 'feeds' label. it then moves to home. It doesn't matter from where I leave the program it always comes back to this.
looks good so far
Hi,
Thanks for the feedback didn't see it before I published the new version today but will work on these for the next beta build.

I like it a lot .
1) I still would like to see sideways slide in the feeds section, just like on the main page. Coming from the main page and sliding horizontally to next page, I intuitively try the same in the feed section just to remind myself that I have to go back first before I can go to the next feed.
2) I know I am picky. the live tile doesn't look right. the text is not centered correctly, it does odd line breaks and lines up with right side (no space between letters and edge of tile) . the background in the top part should be either them color or just white. the white/red stuff towards the right of the images is distracting. The news image is not centered in the top tile, leaving unequal white edges around it. Would be cool to have the live tile flip horizontal once in a while to accent it.
How about top half image fills tile completely, bottom half tile uses theme color.
otherwise great for a German living in the US (No Tagesschau or Spiegel yet)
thank you

Great piece of work. Running on Mango 7720, works fine. The only feedback I have is the way "Latest" news was implemented. The "white" color fonts on top of the "BBC" background makes the "Latest" news very difficult to read. If the background of the "Latest" news is not translucent, that would probably help.
BTW, is there breaking news like the non-mango version, although this doesn't seem to be working since I upgraded to Mango 7720 or was it a few days before I tested 2.65 xap.

Anyone Else Really Digging The Address Bar At The Bottom?

First time really using Mango. I just love the bar at the bottom in IE. As mobile's get bigger it's stunningly awesome. The only thing left I want is for it to hide and I'll swipe to go get it and swiping tabs.
Very cool feature. Thought I would hate it at first.
Its different. But they really need to revamp I.e. N quick and accessible back and forward buttons

I second that, what with these huge screens now it's so easy to get to, whereas before was a bit of an effort, especially if you're in bed using it lying down.

I don't get it - why do you like the address bar being permanently stuck there? Do you really need to constantly look down and be reminded of what site you're on?
Back / Forward / Favourites / Tabs buttons like on iOS (or WP7 pre-Mango) would be far more useful. I honestly can't see how being able to see the URL of the site is a cool feature; would love it if you could explain..

You should read better. He just likes the new position. But he clearly said that he would want it to hide after a few seconds.
I love the address-bar at the bottom and I agree it would be even more awesome if it had autohide after a few secs.
I prefer it at the bottom with no autohide. when i am done reading a site, i want to type a new address or go to favorites, not mess with trying to make it reappear.
It also is following windows 8 metro IE 10. It's the same way.

Just tap anywhere on a site that doesn't contain a link. Your address bar should disappear. At least it does on my W8 CP when I left click.
On my Trophy, the address bar at the bottom is a pain for me. I do a lot of single-hand typing - when the address bar was at the top, it was easy to 'thumb', but now its just not as easy...more risk me dropping the phone etc.
Plus I now sometimes accidentally press the windows or back button as well, when selecting the bar.
A simple option in settings would be nice.

confirmed. Not sure why i didn't notice the behavior. You have to wait for the site to finish loading before it will minimize. on Windows 8 CP
Its good and there should be a button to swap tabs at the side of the address bar.
I feel like Windows Phone 8 will bring a lot of gestures and UX elements from Windows 8. For example IE will be full screen on the phone and you would swipe from the top bar to bring up the menus.. Super awesome I think. Then in the menu you can add the address bar, back and forward buttons or whatever common functions you need in IE.
i don't care if the address bar is at bottom or on top. i need the "find on page" back. i almost stopped using the browser.

There's a JavaScript that does exactly that. Add it to your favorites and voila, you have your find on page feature back. Not as convenient as having it as part of the menu though.

Where did the option to switch to 2010 xda site go?

Hi all,
As per the title... Where did the option to switch to 2010 xda site go? No offense but I absolutely HATE this new site layout and up till yesterday I had been presented with the option to use the 2010 site layout but it seems that option has now been removed.
I am sure I am not the only one who prefers the old style of the site over this new one so is it possible to at least put the option back us so we can choose?
It wouldnt be so bad except that the new site does not scale properly and you have to constantly use the bottom scroll bar to see what it is your reading or looking for and that is annoying as hell!
Please advise...
Just scroll down to the very bottom of the page in the left hand corner and change the drop down theme to XDA 2010. Or go down to the bottom of your options page and change the skin.

WOW!!! Do I feel dumb... Lol... The option used to be up top by the logo and now that its gone I thought the option was as well.
Thanks for the kick in the pants!!! LOL!!!
Also, for those that want to keep the new theme on the site but are having the "not scaling properly" issue as I mentioned, scroll over to the right and in the top corner there is a button that will activate the "side Bar" which will then push everything you need to see into the screen.

[Q] Removing/Changing the apps in the bottom row of the home screen

Hi there,
Just got a new Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. There's a line of apps installed below the page/panel indicator on the home screens, with a bunch of (to me) ill chosen apps. But I can't drag them off the screen to delete them, like I can the ones above the page indicator. I can't find any mention of what this apparently separate panel is called to search better.
Of interest, are people happy with their purchase of one of these? So far I'm finding it pretty ordinary - not horrible, just ordinary...

Just drag the apps on the lower part of your home screen to the upper part where it says delete. then you can go to your apps and drag them to the lower part of your home screen to add them in the dock
If you're saying about the lock screen then I don't know
Hi!
I'm pretty happy with the tab 10.1! With the latest OTA update it runs even smoother! The runtime is great, can handle up to 5 days with daily usage without charging. I received my leather case today, a 360° case.. I can put it horizontal or vertical and it "wakes up" when i open the case.
With that prize its an absolutely recommendation.
Greetings

Hi there,
On the default home page, there's two large widgets on the top (weather and news). Below that there's a Google search bar. Below that there's a row of shortcuts. These all behave normally. Below that there's the page/panel indicator (telling you which home page you're on) and then at the bottom there's another row of shortcuts. It's that last, bottom row that I'm having trouble with. They don't seem to act normally - I can't drag them off to delete as normal. They appear to be hardwired. They are not the choice I would select and I want to change them.
Are other people able to delete these shortcuts?
Thanks!

I have the same problem. I'm tired of reading the answer "click and hold then drag it up". It seems to be the stock answer on all forums. They won't move! No matter what I do, the ridiculous row of apps bottom most on the screen is stuck. There's no help for this in the help app/widget. Someone must know how to unlock these darn things. I want to replace them with ones I use regularly.

Qranparoger,
Unfortunately that is the correct answer of click and hold and move. I just did it to mine and I can move two of the three apps I have in the bottom row. The only one that cannot move is APPS. My SETTINGS and FIREFOX can both be moved to the main screen above the bottom row.
My tab is rooted, but uses stock rom. There is nothing special about what I have done. I checked settings to see if I had changed a display or security function but I do not see anything. I do remember when I first got the tab that I too was having problems. But I do remember solving it and removing the bottom row (except APPS) and rearranging the icons or deleting the icons.
It think that maybe it might be in the APPLICATION MANAGER in SETTINGS that you "Turn Off" the app and it might vanish from the bottom of the screen. Again, I cannot remember how I did it but it can be done.

Latest ROM update - still can't change the apps. My tab isn't rooted, and I couldn't be bothered to now. I don't necessarily want to "turn off" the apps, just not use my precious home screen space. Anyway, I solved the problem by buying a Nexus. Yep, free Samsung is just collecting dust, piece of rubbish... Before anyone rages on me, there's a bunch of reasons I didn't like the Samsung, not just this one thing.
