no trace - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

i rooted my phone , is there a way to reset in a way that unroots it and erases all trace of rooting? thanks

Since we don't have a stock rom to reflash, the closest you can get for now is to reflash the stock kernel & manually delete Superuser & associated files. Follow the instructions in this post.
Note that the Epic 4G Touch contains a counter that indicates how many times an app like Odin has been used to flash software. My understanding is that a "usb jig" (available on amazon, ebay, etc) can be used to reset that counter.

i see, thanks for the info

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2 Epic Sprint - Help Unrooting

Okay so I just bought this phone from craigslist. It was rooted when I got it. I factory reset the data but then restarted the phone and got stuck in a boot loop. So, I decided to unroot it and put it back to it's original state. I downloaded the original stock kernal - acs-eb30-stock-kernal-pulled.tar - and I loaded it on via Odin. I then followed the command prompt steps to fully unroot the phone and it was successful. I'm not stuck in a boot loop anymore however I can't access the main home page, the settings, get a wifi connection, anything really. It just keeps asking me to put in my google account settings but I can't connect to wifi. I can't get to the home screen page. It's almost like maybe that was the wrong kernal? I was looking for the stock kernal and people were saying it's EG30 not EB30. Any suggestions?
That's probably for another Samsung phone. There was never a EB30 for this phone. It shipped with EG30.
I suggest you use the EK02 ODIN One-Click in my signature. Use the full version that resets your user data.

Steps please (to remove ROOT and flash with Stock ROM)
Hi,
I have a similar issue. I rooted my phone (Sprint Samsung Galaxy 2 (also called Epic Touch) after I got it in early 2011.
Now I want to remove the root to sell it so it seems I need to "flash a stock ROM". I am not exactly sure how to do that. Can anyone give me steps?
Where do I get ODIN?
Where do I get the stock ROM for this phone?
How do I flash with that Stock ROM using Odin?
Thanks so much in advance. :good:

[Q] How to completely restore SGS3 to factory settings??

How can I completely restore my phone back to factory settings? I have a custom recovery (TWRP) and only used the root to delete bloatware.
I have already backed up all my contacts and SMS/MMS messages.
I have no problem re-downloading all my apps from the Market, I can do that, right?
I want to COMPLETELY return this thing back to "out-of-the-box" settings; no custom recovery, no root, no previously installed apps.
Then I am going to run the OTA update to get JellyBean and will re-root my device.
Does anyone know where I can find a complete list of bloatware that is safe to remove, from JellyBean? I know there are some pre-installed applications that shouldn't/can't be deleted.
Thanks in advance for all the help. Much appreciated.

2.Download a stock image (post 2)
3. Flash image in ODIN
4. After phone reboots: power off, go into recovery, do a factory wipe/data reset, clear cache, reboot.
What about...?
I've read this entire thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984717&highlight=factory+restore
And that seems like it might be easier than trying to learn how to use Odin (I know nothing about it), after I have just learned how to use Kies to achieve the same goal(?)
The only problem with that thread is that they talk about CWM Recovery being removed, but not TWRP. I do not want to mess my phone up anymore than I already have.
Also, I did all this root/twrp work a long time ago and I vaguely remember something about not having my flash counter tripped. I don't know if that was TWRP that didn't do it or something else. Do you think my flash counter has indeed been tripped?
Just youtube "unroot galaxy s3 at&t" and look for something recent, within the last couple of months. The steps are pretty straight forward.

Does this (found several videos) remove the custom recovery (TWRP) as well? None of the videos talk about custom recoveries...
When you ODIN a stock image, the custom recovery will be wiped out. It'll be like you just pulled the phone from the box.

N7102 dual SIM Note II - reset flash counter guide

Hi all,
I was wondering if there's a way to reset the flash counter on the 7102 for warranty purposes (I know, we need to be in China but some of us visit/live there so it may be handy). I saw Chainfire's TriangleAway thread but with the stock kernel I get bootloops trying to reset the counter.
After some digging on 52samsung.com and a bit of Baiduing (Chinese equivalent of Googling) I found the required file/guide and managed to reset my counter successfully.
Be aware, reseting the flash counter and keeping it at 0 requires flashing of a stock ROM - most of us here would only need to do this for: a) warranty purposes; or b) deciding to stay stock and ditching Google apps/framework. However, it at least provides a method for those who have a raised counter or are currently on stock and concerned about getting stuck with an increased counter to test other ROMs knowing there is a way to get restore the counter.
I take no credit other than finding info that was already available and testing it. I am no dev either :crying:

Step-by-step:
1. Root current firmware (see this thread p.19 if not rooted already or get Chainfire's N7102 CF-autoroot).
2. Use Odin to flash 'n7102-boot-reset-flash-counter.tar'. This custom kernel causes the Menu and Back keys to stop working - they will be fine after flashing another ROM)
3. Let the phone reboot normally.
4. Install TriangleAway and check flash count. Mine was 16
5. Reset the flash counter (TA should not need to reboot the phone) then reload TriangleAway to confirm.
6. IMPORTANT: DO NOT POWER OFF OR REBOOT. We need to flash a stock ROM from Odin's download mode but if you restart the usual way, the custom Kernel is detected and thus the flash counter goes from 0 to 1.
7. So.... Force restart into Odin. From the TriangleAway screen with a 0 counter, hold Power+Home+VolDown until the phone force restarts and you are presented with the Odin screen where you press VolUp to enter 'Download' mode.
8. Flash official ROM. Go into recovery and wipe data / factory reset.
To check the counter status, enter Odin's download mode (TA will not work given there is no root on a stock ROM).
Tested and worked for me. Hopefully it's useful to others too.:good:
thank you for sharing this info.
although i haven't tried yet, because i still need the root right now, but i already subscribed this thread for future need.
btw, i just wonder (because i can not register on www.52samsung.com) want to know, is there any newer cwm version than N7102+CWM 6.0.1.9 root package?
thank you....

I'll check 52 tomorrow and see if there's any new happenings.
Given I use my phone for work and have not so many Play Store paid/exclusive apps/games (a big reason to root) I'm getting along fine on the stock ROM. Gmail, Google Maps and Dolphin are on as.baidu.com (as are many others) but aside from that, the stock apps are enough for me. However, I can see how anyone with even a low number of Play Store apps would need root so this guide is just there as a warranty safety net really.

I'm not registered there either but a bit of searching yielded and updated CWM:
CWM (6.0.2.8) for N7102:
http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=268785&uk=302433522
And also I found this link which is a 6.0.2.8 CWM plus others.
http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=310436&uk=3573826183
Must stress I've not tried these - I'm happy with a pre-rooted/pre-Googled stock ZCDMD2 which I made myself so no need for a custom recovery or raised flash counter.

[Q] Return SGH-M919 with dead screen and UVUAMDL based ROM to warranty stock state?

Noob here.
So I rooted my device and was using various custom ROMs happily for a year. If I ever needed warranty service I could always return to stock, right? What could possibly go wrong?
Well, suddenly the screen failed. This presents some unforeseen challanges in returning my SGH-M919 to warranty stock condition. I got an advance warranty replacement from T-Mobile a few days ago, and after pulling my hair out for days on this, I have to solve it within 36 hours to avoid T-Mo's $150 fee for returning an out-of-warranty device. If I return nothing by then, the fee jumps to $450. I've been searching, and searching, but still haven't found the answers I need.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but If I had a working screen I think the procedure would be simple:
1. Wipe system and cache partitions
2. Odin Original Stock UVUAMDL ROM (M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_M919UVUAMDL_HOME.tar.md5)
3. Odin CF Autoroot to get root
4. Install Triangleaway
5. Run Triangleaway to zero flash counter
6. Odin Original Stock ROM again
Questions:
I'm having trouble figuring out how to do 1, 4, and 5 without a screen. Right now I have stock recovery installed, but I can Odin CWM patch. I'd rather not unless I must, tho.
1. Is there a way to wipe system and cache partitions before flashing using stock recovery?
2. If not, where can I find screenshots of the menus for CWM recovery so I can do this blind.
There is a screen mirror client using ADB I can use to get 4 and 5 done if I can turn on USB debugging somehow.
It seems the easiest way to do this would be to flash a kernel with unsecure USB debugging enabled by default.
3. Does anyone know where I can find a compatible kernel? (UVUADML friendly, root friendly (SETUID enabled), unsecure USB debugging enabled by default)
4. I think I saw a thread somewhere tellling me how to edit some properties to do this using the Android SDK to force USB debugging but I can't find it anymore.
Thanks for any help.

Soft bricked SPH-L710- Possible to recover data or repair without wiping?

I was using Chrome when the phone froze. I restarted it, and now the phone just hangs at the Samsung logo.
I have a completely stock unrooted Sprint SPH-L710. I'm moderately sure the phone is on MD4 since I didn't want Knox. It would be nice if there were a way to double check, though, since I don't remember why it stopped pestering me to upgrade. The phone doesn't boot far enough to get into safe mode, but it will enter recovery and download mode. Clearing the cache in recovery had no effect.
My PC and Kies don't see it when I connect it.
My contacts and photos are mostly backed up, so I'm more worried about salvaging other things, like Chrome bookmarks. My bookmarks aren't synchronized with Google. Apparently root is required to access them, so I never got around to it. It would be nice to recover text messages and gamesaves too. I haven't tried a factory reset yet since that would wipe everything.
What should I do from here? Is it possible to install a custom recovery at this point and use that to backup files?
Or should I try to flash a stock rom from the SD card or Odin? Or will that wipe everything or cause other problems?
I don't have USB debugging activated, so is there anything useful I'd be be able to do with ADB?
Or should I just shrug and go for the factory reset?
Thanks guys.
It's been an educational experience.
Without root or USB debugging enabled, it's apparently impossible to install custom firmware from soft bricked status.
ADB was never even able to see my phone. Not even in recovery or download modes.
Odin is a surprisingly temperamental program. It would see my phone, but not successfully flash until I uninstalled Kies. Rwilco's ROM's and one click flashes were all entirely unsuccessful. It's difficult to find older GS3 ROM's since link rot has claimed nearly all of them. There's about a million skeychy Samsung firmware/update sites, and most of them are worthless.
Heimdall is a little disappointing. You can't just point it at a ROM. You have to track down a Heimdall specific package. I couldn't find a suitable one.
Eventually, I found a sketchy Samsung firmware site that had the MD4 ROM, and it actually flashed in Odin. Then Odin stopped seeing my phone entirely.
So, I ordered a Tmobile Note 4 to use on Ting. It's cheaper, and I like the removable battery and microSD. Just for kicks, I factory reset the S3. To my surprise, the factory reset worked. I guess I should have tried that before I ordered a new phone
In the meantime, I guess I will still try to recover files, demote the S3 to media player/backup phone status, and use the incoming Note 4 as my daily driver.
From here on, I guess it means rooting and monthly backups.
Thanks guys.
When you boot into download mode you'll see your Knox flag if the phone has been upgraded to a Knoxed up firmware. I'm too lazy to check but it looks something like Knox: 0x0 or 0x1.
